- 435smileb0 contributionsGreat tourHong our guide and Yap our driver took great care of us. Hong has a great amount of enthusiasm for his country and its culture which only added to the experience. Highly recommend this tour of Silk Island and what it is all about. Also Hong is an avid for photographer which made the tour more interesting if you happen to be a fellow shutterbug.Written 14 September 2024
- JoleneBrown0 contributionsFantastic time cycling through villages and along farmlands, seeing the real CambodiaI had a fantastic time on this cycle tour around Silk Island with our guide Nerith. He was lovely! Very friendly, interesting, and informative. The stops on route were great, with many photo opportunities and a really great restaurant for lunch - a deck over the river with hammocks to chill in and delicious local food and ice cold beers and waters! Thank you Nerith and Vana Adventure Tours.Written 7 September 2024
- ondfre590 contributionsWonderful Phnom Penh tourIt doesn't matter if you are in Phnom Penh Cambodia for a long or short time as we were, you must consider doing this tour. We had Narith as our guide, and he was fantastic. He assisted us getting used to our bikes, and ensured our safety as we were riding around Silk Island. All of our questions were answered by Narith. He is a wonderful ambassador promoting his country. We learnt so much during this tour that covered various aspects of Cambodian life. We found the pace of the tour relaxing(we aren't highly experienced bike riders). We rode along rural roads, and beside the Mekong river too at times. Stops along the way were well timed, and gave us a break... while learning about local industries such as cotton/silk weaving, soya bean production, and much more. The bikes were in excellent condition, with comfy riding seats too. Adjustments were made to suit our heights. Lunch was delicious, and included in the tour price. A must do tour if travelling to Phnom Penh Cambodia. Highly recommended.Written 30 August 2024
- 972susiec0 contributionsBrilliant cycling tour and experienceWhat an amazing experience this was. Thong is a fabulous guide, sharing his knowledge of the area and local people. Cycling was all easy and at a good pace for all in party. The water stops / breaks were well timed. The fruit at the silk weaving family home was so tasty and to watch the weavers was great. Lunch was delicious. All in all a fabulous way to see the islands around Phnom Penh.Written 25 August 2024
- Departure195766481800 contributionsEnjoyable day in the countrysideA great time was had by us. Very good and informative tour guide. Loved the tuk tuk ride around the village. Enjoyed the ferry rides, grasshopper farm, mat making, and the silk weavers factory. Very cool checking out the silk worms! Yummy lunch and chill out on the floating Hut. It was a very enjoyable tour. Thank you!Written 18 August 2024
- Nene0127940 contributionsSilk IslandCatching and using a Tuk-tuk is a lovely way to see the island and explore around the Silk Centre. If travelling from Phnom Penh you will need to catch a ferry across to the island. The ferry runs frequently and the tuk-tuk driver drives you onto the barge/boat (ferry) while you're transported across the river.Written 6 August 2024
- MyNameIsJimmy0 contributionsNice places, boring tourIt’s a nice and interesting place to cycle around. The lunch was nice, too. A few adjustments could make this a much better activity. The guide was very quiet and reserved. An energetic, outgoing guide makes a big difference, so he can work on that, and maybe prepare things to talk about beyond “that’s a mango tree.” The bike was very uncomfortable, with a hard seat, hard handlebar grips, and a setup that didn’t allow you to sit up, so after a while it strains your back. It seemed like a good quality, newish bike, but maybe they should switch to a more comfortable style of bike. We arrived at the restaurant - the last stop on the itinerary - just after 10:30am. When we’d finished eating at 11, he suggested lying in a hammock for 10 minutes. That was nice! But after 10 minutes I waited a further 30 minutes before we left. Was this just killing time because the itinerary is too empty? I would suggest finding a similar tour with another company, because Silk Island and Mekong Island are nice.Written 3 August 2024
- 564kerryd0 contributionsBest Cambodian tuk tuk 6hr trip ever!Thong (our guide) met us early directly at the hotel, he was extremely friendly and spoke good English. We started the 2.30pm arvo tour feeling exceptionally comfortable and safe. We hopped in our tuk tuk with driver Tran (also lovely) and headed to Silk Island across multiple ferries. Thong was an exceptional guide and took the time to explain about the farmers, their farming methods and their produce, of course silk weaving, & how bean curd is made (foreigners should never again complain about their work office conditions!), the curd is made 24x7 and rotated by family members on watch. Thong was extremely helpful and patient with our many cultural questions and observant of our needs (WC, water etc), and even made a quick stop when we showed interest in home made donuts on the side of the street (ps, delicious by the way). We cannot recommend Thong highly enough of Vana Adventure Travel (his own company), he truly is inspirational of his knowledge and care for the Cambodian people! This was the best trip we had during our 2wk stay across Vietnam and Cambodia. Thank you Thong.Written 26 July 2024

- wonderchick0 contributionsDon’t pass up this great birding experience!I had Excellent experience with Thong the owner. Took ferry and went to 3 sites seeing many new lifers for me including endemic Cambodian tailorbird and migratory Oriental pratincole with lots of young chicks we were able to get close to. He knows all the good spots-speaks good English, had yummy food too. I wish I had more time as he is available for multiple day trips as well. He truly enjoys his job making the whole experience that much more enjoyable!Written 27 April 2024
- parkkar0 contributionsGreat tour to see life outside of city.Great tour that took us outside of the city. It was nice to see some surrounding islands. Guide was friendly, good English, and informative. Bikes worked well. Lunch was delicious. I think the best part was stopping at a school and being greeted by the school children. I’d recommend this tour.Written 17 March 2024

This is a two day one night tour. We were picked up at our hotel in phnom Penh by our guide Pis and we travelled by minibus across the city until we reached the quiet country roads. Then we started our 45km cycle countryside on brand new mountain bikes through beautiful villages, fields, plantations and lakes dappled with colourful water lilies. All along the way people smiled and waved and said hello, Pis our guide was very attentive, enthusiastic and full of information. We stopped to take picture and drink plenty of water provided by them. The minibus was never too far away and picked us up if we felt tired. We arrived at Chambok Eco village with sunset through rice fields. We shared a delicious meal cooked by locals at the community centre. Our accommodation was in a community homestay which was very clean and comfortable. We spend a very nice evening with the homestay family learning how to make pop rice with banana. Early next morning we started our hike through jungle and forest to Kirirom Mountain. We climbed into a bat cave, saw a very nice waterfall and ate lunch in a forest of pine tree. Along the way we got face to face with a giant snake and our guide was under control with it. It didn't attack us at all. Totally recommend to anyone who wants a taste of the real Cambodia.

Dec 2018 • Friends
I strongly encourage you to book a tour with Vana Adventures! My partner and I did a half-day biking trip on the silk islands, and later we joined up with 2 other friends to do a 3-day hiking and camping trip in Kirirom National Park.
Thong is:
-- responsive (the only company with which I communicated which always responded within 24 hours, sometimes less!)
-- flexible (I requested that we make a modification to one aspect of the trip and he made it happen even though it involved a third party)
-- organized and professional (he was always early! transportation was great, he always had lots of water, meals and accommodation all worked, zero problems in 2 trips/4 days)
-- made the trip personal (he brought leftover sweets from his relative’s wedding for the drive, also we ended up storing some extra bags at his house and met his wife and kids)
-- shared lots of interesting information about Khmer culture, history, foods, etc.
-- most importantly, he is laid back and has a great sense of humour!
Thong’s company is small and Cambodian! Booking with Vana Adventures is therefore “socially responsible tourism” in the sense that it benefits locals (he increasingly has staff help lead tours, and he hires people to help with meals, accommodation, transportation, etc.), more so than big foreign companies do.
About the tours themselves:
-- I strongly recommend the half-day biking of the silk islands. It’s a lot of fun taking ferries and going from island to island. We saw lots of different villages and houses, and learned lots about Buddhism too! Thong actually picked us up at the hotel by bike because we were <500 m from the start of the bike paths… so there wasn’t too much driving which is what I had been worried about. Bike paths were a little muddy (they probably will be if you go after rain, so be ready to get a little dirty/sweaty). We saw some older folks on the same trail so I’m sure it can be tailored to fit different biking levels.
-- I wanted to leave a note about what to do with your 3 days: Aural Mountain Hike vs. Kirirom National Park? I spoke with Thong quite a lot about this and did some research of other reviews/photos/videos available online. What I found is that Aural Mountain doesn’t have much variety (it’s jungle throughout) or view (still a forest once you get to the top); therefore, it’s a good option if your goal really is going to the highest mountain. In contrast, the Vana Kirirom tour has more variety (waterfall, jungle, pine forest) and view. It’s less intense than Aural, but can be made more intense if desired (for instance by getting up early on the second day for an optional bike ride). Although I haven’t done the Aural mountain hike, I would recommend the Vana tour in Kirirom based on what I know. Also I believe that Thong’s company is the only small (aka not international) company that goes to Chambok Eco Village, and the only company that does more than the 3 km hike to the waterfalls (worth it if you’re into hiking!).

We were fortunate enough to find Vana Adventure Travel in our search for activities while in Cambodia. We booked two tours with Mr. Thong Chea and we had an amazing time on both. Thong was very easy to communicate with to book the tours and answered all of our questions, which made us feel really comfortable. We booked a bicycle tour to the Silk Islands first and had a lovely day trip. Our second tour was a multi-day hike through Kiriom National Park which included a homestay in a small Cambodian village, a bike ride to an amazing view of the mountains, and lots of great scenery while on the hiking trails. It was a truly amazing experience. I would highly recommend Vana and Mr. Chea for anyone visiting Cambodia.
