Erol was amazing! It was my mother and my first day in Istanbul and we met him in the morning and he took us all around Sultahmet (Istanbul). Rather than go inside mosques and museums, he took us around these structures and described them all—as well as walls, fortresses, layers of histories at the hippodrome, important architectural details that otherwise would look simply like modern updates. He provided complex and detailed histories including pictures so that when we visited sights inside later, we’d understand the highlights and the histories. The tour felt particularly suited to our interests and needs. For example, when we needed a break, he took us to a government sponsored rug shop/museum where we watched live demonstrations of making silk and rug weaving. He took us to a particularly excellent spice shop at the spice market where he buys his own saffron and turmeric so the shop owners were kind. Yet he did NOT make a commission. He clarified prices and translated stories by others for us at the grand bazaar. All of this was based on our requests. He even paid for our tram to return to the starting point of our tour and started us in the direction of our hotel at our conclusion. Meanwhile, the overall tour was an incredible mixture of history, contemporary circumstances of modern Turkey, and tourism tie-ins like where scenes from famous western movies were set. I can’t believe how much we saw and learned about this rich area, as well as how to do other things in the coming days. In addition, he took many photos for us. My mother and I had a terrific, rich experience with beautiful memories to treasure. Finally, Erol was less than half the price of the tour guide suggested by our hotel!! But he’s registered just like the others, and is thoroughly professional! We could have never had such an experience in days with our guidebooks, nor would we have known what was closed/under renovation while learning detailed descriptions while Erol provided photos of what we will miss. We feel confident in our navigation of this twisty, charming, mesmerizing city and even knew what traditional meal to eat last night and what local venues will give us the most varied options for upcoming lunches and dinners. Erol was THE BEST tour guide we could imagine—he went above and beyond!

Erol was absolutely fantastic - kind, patient, knowledgeable, flexible, and incredibly informative. We had a very inquisitive group, peppering him with questions throughout, and he took the time to answer each one, weaving in stories not only from history but also his own personal experience. He also stayed 30 minutes longer so that he could show us more and make sure he answered all of us our questions. We’ll definitely be booking another tour with Erol before we leave!

I did this tour my first full day in Istanbul and it was a great way to get oriented to all the important sites in the old city. If you are just arriving here or only have a short time to see all the sites I would highly recommend this tour. My guide Erol was very knowledgeable and helpful in welcoming me to the city. Istanbul is beautiful in the snow!

Fantastic as always to explore a city with a local guide. Erol has been fantastic with social distancing, hand sanitisation and wearing the mask despite the hest of the day, notably during the pandemic.
Definitely recommend this.

Our guide, Erol, was very informative about the history of all of the locations we visited. He took time to answer our questions, made the experience interactive by asking us questions, and had no problem making stops to accommodate our curiosities at the shops in the Grand Bazaar and Spice Market.

As stated in the tour description, we did not actually go inside Hagia Sophia or the Blue Mosque. We made sure to revisit those locations the next day equipped with all the information the Erol provided us with during our tour.

Thanks so much!

The weather was wet and grey but Erol adapted the tour to keep us inside more. He told us lots of helpful facts about the culture and sites around us that helped to plan the rest of our stay. What Erol doesn’t know about the history of Istanbul isn’t worth knowing highly recommended. Rob and Sabina.

Excellent tour of the highlights of Istanbul. Erol is incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and easy to understand. A great tour for first timers like me to Istanbul. After the tour you have enough familiarity with the area to do some exploring on your own. Highly recommend.

Erol was great guide. It was just me on the tour and he made it very interesting and informative.

I chose this tour because it was only a few hours and I didn’t want to commit a whole day to being with a tour group. It worked out perfectly and I left with a lot of new knowledge about Turkey that will enrich the rest of my trip.

Erol knows his city and his history! A kind and professional guide that will teach you things probably not easily available to the common tourist. A must for newcomers!

PS - The tour does not enter the monuments. It is best as a first approach, to give an overview of the area. Thus, you can enjoy more what you will visit afterwards.

Wow! What a morning. This walking tour with Erol is the perfect way to start your stay in Istanbul. Super informative and very knowledgeable - Erol is a great guide with very good English. The tour gives you a great idea of the layout of Istanbul and you know where to go back to for more. Our group was 4 people. Erol answers all of your questions and is a very personable lovely guy. We definitely recommend this tour and Istanbul. What a city!
