- dorisjV5468RB0 contributionsOur experience was very fulfilling- especially being there during a hostage release.Shachar is an amazing guide. He combines his personal experiences with a significant history of Israel. He takes his tours to unique locations, above and beyond the tourist sites. With each stop, he shares history and knowledge. After a trip with Shachar, one wants to return to Israel again and again.Written 2 February 2025
- 237eliotd0 contributionsA Fantastic ExperienceOur group really enjoyed our highly-customized tour arranged by Hands On Israel. Our guide was a subject matter expert on not just tourism, but also the society and culture. I'd give it 6-stars...Written 25 January 2025
- beccak5770 contributionsA Wonderful Guide for a Beautiful Country! My husband and I recently spent 10 days in Israel with Shachar. It was easily one of our favorite trips we have ever taken. We started in Tel Aviv for 2 days where Shachar took us through Jaffa and recommended wonderful restaurants for us to try. He then drove us up north where we spent 3 nights at a wonderful resort run by Kibbutz Ein Gev. While up north we explored the Sea of Galilee, the Golan Heights, and Tiberias. One of our favorite parts of the trip was a last minute stop to Copernum where St Peter lived and historians believe the world’s first church was right next to a 3,000 year old Synagogue. It wasn’t originally on our iteninary but while talking to us Shachar realized we would find it very interesting so he took us there. He then drove us down to Jerusalem where we spent 3 days. He took us through the Old City and explained all of the different areas and religions. He noticed what interested us the most and adapted things as we went to ensure both my husband and I saw things that truly resonated with our interests. He also drove us to the Dead Sea and Masada. He was so adaptable that in the car if we said something that interested us and it was on our way he took us there to at least look at. Shachar was one of the most knowledgable guides I’ve ever encountered. He was able to answer all of my questions about the sites, the people, the history, literally anything. He truly was able to give me a full picture of this beautiful country. We really felt comfortable with Shachar. He never rushed us at any site and never judged us if we didn’t find something interesting or fun. If we spent more time at one place and ended up missing something else, if it was possible he would fit it in the following day. He made a trip that we were originally a bit uneasy about planning feel effortless. And because of his experience as a tour guide we were able to trust him if there needed to be last minute changes for a variety of reasons. He also is a great photographer! Always willig to stop for my requests to take photos wherever we were! For all these reasons and so much more I would always recommend Shachar for couples, families, friends, whatever groups want to visit and truly experience Israel!Written 16 January 2025
- le0rahe0 contributionsThe most important & meaningful time to visit IsraelShachar with Hands On Israel took us for 1 full day from Tel Aviv down South to bear witness to all that happened and pay respect and honor all those killed and kidnapped on/since October 7th. With deep thoughtfulness, knowledge, and personal connection, Shachar took us through the areas of Zikim, S’derot, and Re’im. We heard personal stories and learned important details about the day of October 7th and after. Shachar helped make a sad, emotional day very meaningful and special as he took us through the areas of the kibbutzim that were attacked and walked with us through the Nova Festival site. Thanks to Shachar and Hands On Israel, even though it was a day filled with tears and heavy emotions, it was also filled with so much support and love.Written 13 June 2024

- 619jeffry0 contributionsGolan view is certainly fascinating. The Golan Heights is a rocky plateau, it was captured by Israel from Syria in 1967 during the Six Day War. The Heights overlook the Galilee region. An enemy sniper can easily pick off anyone working in the fields or moving through this fertile region. The Golani Brigade, a unit of the IDF, captured the region. These days, the Golan Heights area creates wine and other agricultural products. Israel is unlikely to return the Golan Heights to Syria, given its strategic importance. However, the view is certainly fascinating.Written 3 November 2023
- D1514HLdoral0 contributionsA trip of a lifetimeWe had an amazing time in Israel thanks to Shachar and his team. Their attention to making sure we experienced the highlights of Israel in the limited time we had was amazing. We did three days of touring with them. In our last day we visited Tel Aviv, Caesarea, and Jaffa. His knowledge of the country, their history, political situation helped give us an insight not possible had we not traveled here. We were blessed to visit and experience Israel before the horrific new attacks. Our prayers and support will be with Israel.Written 8 October 2023
- rsvlaw0 contributionsThank you Shachar and Hands on IsraelOur family highly recommends Hands on Israel and Shachar Gel to put together a wonderful family trip. We had our grandson’s Bar Mitzvahs and it was a life changing experience. 10 stars!Written 14 July 2023
- timcC8153WD0 contributionsFamily Trip to IsraelShachar led my family on a 12-day tour of Israel. Because it was the first time in Israel for most of us, Shachar made sure we saw all of the highlights and customized the tour to our liking. Shachar is knowledgeable, patient, funny, and well-informed. While planning this trip, I realized that all tour guides will show you basically the same attractions. But it is the relationship that travelers have with the guide that will make or break the trip. Shachar forged a close relationship with each member of my family and we would not want to see Israel any other way. Unlike other tour guides I initially spoke with, Shachar “got” our family and planned the meaningful and fun trip we had all envisioned. I would choose Shachar and Hands on Israel again if we return to Israel and would highly recommend him to others wishing to visit Israel.Written 2 July 2023
- 505linseyc0 contributionsA perfect 10 days in Israel. From arrival to take off, Shachar didn’t miss a single detail. His perfectly planned itinerary coupled with his deep knowledge of the history of Israel made our trip something our family will never forget. Taking us from the past all the way through the present day, we were able to immerse ourselves in the culture, politics, religion and beauty of the country. Shachar knew how to make the historical come to life but he also understood when our teenagers needed a little of the present to balance the day. We very much valued his perspective and approach. And, after we left him on the 10th day, we coined the phrase “WWSD” - what would Shachar do….that will be a part of our family forever. Thank you Shachar!! 🇮🇱Written 2 July 2023
- hooked480 contributionsFamily of 5 First Trip Success!Shachar and "Hands on Israel" were great for drafting an itinerary for our family of 5. This was our first trip to Israel. We have traveled to many far-away places with the family and this was a great cap-off as our "children" are all young adults ages 18, 19 and 22. Our goal was to learn about and experience our Jewish roots and the culture and vibe of Israel, its people and its complexities. Shachar and our guide, Ravid, were very knowledgeable and full of information and recommendations that were appropriate for our family. Sure, we saw many important ruins, temples, national parks, the Dead Sea and stayed in three separate cities. Tel Aviv, Safed and Jerusalem were all purposeful locations, each with different meanings, purpose, and vibe. The most important success of this trip was that our guide and Shachar were flexible to our changes and personalities. When we wanted to shorten a tour, it was shortened, when we wanted to stop for a cocktail or meal that request was granted. I can go on and on about how much we loved our family vacation to Israel, and I am sure that it would not have been such a success without the guidance and professionalism of Shachar and the Hands on Israel planning. Thank you! We will be back.Written 17 June 2023
- U8761EYdawns0 contributionsOur second time touring with Shachar and Hands On Israel. This was my second tour with Shachar and Hands on Israel. I first went with him I’m the summer of 2017 with just my then 10 and 12 year old daughters. This time, I brought the entire family. It is not easy leading a group Of 8 that ranged from 12-72 but Shachar did it perfectly. He is the most fascinating guide I have ever met. We are leaving Israel inspired and so much more knowledgable thanks to Shachar’s pure brilliance. He knows exactly how to engage the most difficult child while ati appealing to adults. Our group traveled around the country with ease. I can not recommend Shachar enough. He is such a gift!Written 16 June 2023
- H6212KKhannahl0 contributionsYou do not want to book a tour with anyone else! BOOK WITH HANDS ON ISRAEL!If you are looking for a tour in Israel, Hands on Israel is the way to go. My dad and I wanted a custom private tour of Israel and we were given a plethora of names and I decided to contact Shachar. He reached out within 30 minutes and asked about what kind of tour we were looking for and things that we have to see. He sent us a whole customizable itinerary and included some really cool activities along with historical highlights! He also took care of our transportation, hotel accommodation and transports to and from the airport. His knowledge about Israel and all things religion amazed both my dad and myself. His knowledge is so vast and he is engaging in the way he presents it. He is such a personable guide and was so laid back which was exactly what my dad and I were looking for! He was in no rush to make us go through sites which allowed us to soak it all in! We toured Jerusalem(old city, mount of olives, yemin moshe, mahane yehudah, etc.), Dead Sea, Masada, Ben She’an, Golan Heights, Rosh Pina, Tiberias, Safad, Akko, Caesarea, Yaffo and Tel Aviv. We absolutely recommend Hands on Israel for your next trip to Israel (to say the least)! And now we have a reason to go back and visit a new friend! Thank you for everything Shachar and Hands on Israel!!!Written 10 May 2023
- stevelM9165ZC0 contributionsAn Unforgettable Tour with Shachar and Hands on IsraelFor 8 days my twenty three year old daughter and i enjoyed an amazing private tour throughout Israel with Shachar. Our tour started in the Old City of Jerusalem. We learned so much about Israel and the old cities history. Shachar’s knowledge is extraordinary yet he presents the information in such an easy way to grasp it. Painting pictures in our minds. We went to the shuk and had a “taste if Israel” it was fabulous! Then off to Masada and the Dead Sea learning all along the way. Yad VaShem, Golan Heights, Jaffa, Akku, Safad, Sea of Galilee, Akko, Caesarea, Beit She’an, Tel Aviv and so much more. Not to mentioned the other sites that weren’t planned made for a lifetime of memories. We’re blessed to be in the Holy Land and further blessed with Shachar the best tour guide in the UNIVERSE. Don’t wait tomorrow isn’t promised so book your tour with Shachar today!Written 1 May 2023

We worked with Shachar to put together a private tour for three days. His customer service skills are exceptional. David Ringler was our guide for "In the Steps of Christianity" . His knowledge was impressive. He made sure to hit all the sights important to us, but also made sure we tasted the various foods enhancing our experience of Jerusalem and Bethlehem. We were blessed with being able to experience Israel in times of peace.

Our trip to the Holy Land was a very moving experience for my family. Shachar, our tour guide, made sure our trip to Bethlehem and Jerusalem was very memorable. We had a full day tour with so many places to see and Shachar made sure we saw what we needed and wanted to see. He even found ways for us to see the Nativity Church even when the line was so long. The moment he said “I welcome you to Jerusalem!”, I was crying and was very moved. We just arrived that day after a long flight and Shachar knew we were tired and hungry but he made sure to go on our pace without missing the things we wanted to experience. In such a short time, we were able to experience Jerusalem the way we wanted to. We couldn’t have asked for a better tour and guide! Thank you, Shachar!

The tour guide was knowledgeable and very attentive to details. Wear comfortable shoes there is lots of walking. Stick a pack of snack crackers in your pocket. The guide provides plenty of water. Enjoy a full day of very educational sites.
