The tour consisted of Aqaba, Wadi Rum (sleep in the desert), and Petra. It was worth every minute there! We had an amazing guide, interesting, fun, approachable, and who enjoyed taking us by surprise us with the most incredible views.
The views were simply mind-blowing. Petra of course was breathtaking as well.
Sleeping in the desert was a wonderful experience, it felt like a luxury camp, and all the stuff was super friendly.
Also, we did not have to worry about crossing the border or anything. Everything was super simple with them.
In addition, this tour doesn't include camel riding, nor any type of riding, which we didn't want (animals rights are not super respected there).
100% recommended!

The 2 day tour to Petra from Tel a Viv was an unforgettable experience. However we were delayed at the the first crossing into Jordan for around 2 hours, coach from Jerusalem was late. And unforunately we left a case on the coach returning to Tel a Viv and it proved challenging to get it back. Slightly spoilt the overall experience. However I would still recommend Abraham Tours.

My wife, son (14) and I chose this tour based on the solid reviews and excellent details provided. Based on the tour description, we knew there would be a lot of time on buses and probably some lost (wasted) time at the border crossings--and there were certainly were. But the trips to Jarash and Petra were fantastic experiences that we wouldn't trade for anything. Abdullah was a fantastic tour guide, and the itinerary was very well planned out without being rushed. Unforgettable sights, sounds and scents of true wonders of the world. Worth every penny. Abraham Tours did a great job from start to finish, and we recommend this experience to anyone remotely interested.

Everything from the itinerary to the guide to the Bedouin camp was excellent.

Mahdi really made the trip special, he gave us many genuinely fascinating insights and was happy to answer any questions, some of which were pretty challenging and sensitive questions. He has a great sense of humour and even goes the extra mile by doing all of the hard work at border crossings by collecting passports and getting them stamped where he can. On the way back through the border we didn't even have to get off the bus in Jordan! He was absolutely heroic.

The Bedouin camp exceeded my expectations in every possible way, it was absolutely magical and the staff there wanted to give us an incredible experience, even fetching us towels and shampoo as many of us hadn't even realised there would be showers, never mind the lovely marble showers they have there which are far superior to the hostel showers I'd been using in Tel Aviv.

Jerash and Petra speak for themselves. We were given the perfect amount of time to explore.

The only thing is that the air conditioning on the Jordanian bus was a little on the weak side, averaging out at about 24 degrees but sometimes warmer.

An exceptional tour.

We used Abraham Tours twice in Jerusalem, one to Masada/Dead Sea and overnight to Petra. Our Petra guide Nader was one of the best guides we have ever had. Both tours left from the Abraham Hostel where we stayed and left luggage for the overnight Petra tour. Nicely run tours.

The perfect tour along with the greatest guide ever: Mahdi! Very comfortable and safe buses, great food, super experienced staff regarding borders crossing, incredibly prepared guide regarding Jordan, Israel, Arab-Israeli conflict and Middle East geological and socioeconomic history overall. There was not any question left without answers!

And of course, the best part was Petra, including the outstanding Bedouin campsite with a unique atmosphere and food. Petra is just amazing, you simply can’t describe it with words ... you have to see it to believe on it! A true wonder, way more breathtaking than Giza Pyramids, for example.

My review regarding this tour is mixed. I'll start off by saying how profoundly disappointed I was with the lack of organization on behalf of Abraham tours.

We decided to arrive at Abraham Hostel Tel Aviv at 5:45 am after receiving multiple emails requesting us to arrive before 6 am. It was 6:30 am, at the earliest, before someone called us to board a van that was falling apart (note that no one was late). After much confusion, we were put on another (better) van, which took us to Jerusalem. Once there, we boarded a larger bus with the rest of the group. I wish the problems ended here. The bus was absolutely filthy inside. As we were rushed in, an Abraham staff member only gave a sheet of paper explaining what to do in the event we were to get held up when returning to Israel; no explanation about what to expect at the border with Jordan was given. We initially thought this was fine as we assumed the bus driver would explain everything once there. No luck. He didn't speak a word of English and all 30+ of us were unsure what to do when exiting Israel.

With all this, we were delayed in excess of 2 hours and as a result had to skip most of the itinerary on the first day, including Amman.

In all fairness the rest of the tour was great. Our guide, Basel, was very knowledgable and so was our driver Iman. There's no question that Petra is an amazing place.

Dear "anthonyb736" Sorry to hear of the logistic issues that you experienced on the tour. Some of our drivers are indeed non English speaking locals and delays at the border may have been due to several factors. We now have a staff member explaining the border procedure on the morning of every Petra Tour. I can completely understand any disappointment you may have felt however and on behalf of our team I'm sorry for any confusion you may have faced at the border. I'm very glad to hear that you had a great guide and driver with you and that you found Petra to be amazing. If you'd like to write to me directly, I would be happy to look further into what happened on the day of your tour and consult management about it. You can contact me directly at guestrelations@abrahamtours.com Warm Regards, Tay

A Google search for a trip to Petra offers tours from multiple service providers and DIY options, and it took me ~6 weeks (of reading & emails after work) before I zeroed in on my choice. My options included getting a visa in advance to cross the border on our own and using a taxi in Jordan; a private tour booked through a travel agent; flying between Tel Aviv and Eilat in order to book on tours operating from Eilat; one day tour options from Tel Aviv. Eventually, I decided to go with Abraham Tours on the 1N2D tour to Petra from Tel Aviv, for a tour on the second weekend of May.

Why Abraham Tours?
The factors that influenced my choice were a combination of the great reviews on Tripadvisor as well as their responses to my emails - both in terms of speed and content. Although their website consists of a lot of info, we exchanged more than a dozen emails. A few days after I made the booking on their website, I read a review on a border crossing experience that made me email them; I got a confident reply that border crossings are unpredictable, just like anywhere else in the world, and that I should be prepared and patient - and that helped; I'm glad I didn't get a reply that “such experiences are rare and everything would be smooth when I got there!” Price wasn’t really a factor, since most of the tours were similarly priced.

The tour - Day 1.
We arrived at Abraham Hostel in Tel Aviv, for the tour scheduled to leave at 0600. We waited for a few minutes for two tourists, and left by 0615 in a minibus; we reached Jerusalem by about 7am, and quickly transferred to a larger bus along with other tourists who boarded at Jerusalem. We reached the Jordan River Border Crossing by about 0930, and exited Israel after paying the Exit Fee of NIS 102 per person in about 45 mins. We also purchased JODs at the currency exchange - for the visa fee and expenses in Jordan. Entry to Jordan took longer, to account for the tourists who didn't make it; we were seated comfortably in the relevant premises. Once we got our visa, our first stop was for lunch at a restaurant. We were then on our way to Jerash, where we spent about two hours exploring the Roman ruins. And by about 4pm, we were on the road to Petra, via a quick tour of Amman and a dessert stop.

Instead of the overnight stay at the Bedouin Camp, which is the standard offer, we chose to pay a little extra (during booking) and stay at a hotel after dinner; and we were booked in the 3-star Petra Palace hotel, which was a 5-min walk from the entrance to Petra! And I would go back to the hotel without a second thought.

Day 2.
We were at the entrance Petra by 7am, which is the opening time during Ramadan. After a quick intro by our guide, we were afoot and within 10-15 mins, we got a sense of the landscape. We reached the grand 'main structure' within an hour; our guide had given us an overview during the bus drive the previous evening and led us in the morning as well for the first hour. We then had 4 hours to ourselves, to walk and explore as much each of us could manage and return to the bus by 12 noon. Once back in the bus, we stopped again for lunch, and a couple of breaks before crossing over at the King Hussein (or Allenby) Crossing. I had read that this crossing can take anywhere from 2-5 hours and were happily surprised when all of us crossed in less than an hour :) And then we were on our way back in separate vehicles back to Tel Aviv & Jerusalem. Looks like someone told our minibus driver that they were in a hurry, and we reached Abraham Hostel in Tel Aviv almost 30 mins ahead of schedule! And we were left reminiscing our memories.

Shoes & Camera.
For the trip, I wore hard-bottom shoes, that I had used in my trip to Africa, and it was not a good choice. I would recommend sports/running shoes.

As for camera, I used my D90 with a Tokina 11-16, and it was great for most of the structures, with the exception of capturing family photos with a specific background. Although we were out on a sunny and clear day, I don’t think a monopod would have helped since I didn’t find opportunities for photos in low-light; that may also be because I didn’t explore enough! I used my mobile phone for a few photos, and this was useful to share the experience on WhatsApp. The walk back in the hot sun seemed much tougher and longer and we had to push ourselves to return well in time, so that we have time left for shopping at the entrance. And I would recommend buying an “Indiana Jones hat" before entering the Petra premises, and not after the experience (like what I did!!).

Guide.
Our guide in Jordan was Issam, who was with us from the time we entered Jordan, and helped us with border crossings during both onward and return journeys. Each of us gave 50JOD (40 onward + 10 return) to Issam for the visa fees; this seemed lower than my assessment based on what I had read and estimated.

In addition to being helpful, Issam was friendly and humorous; his middle-eastern accent ensured that most of us understood what he said without any doubt/confusion. He was knowledgeable about the locations - Jerash and Petra, and made good use of time during the bus drive to talk about the history and prepare us on how to manage the trek. His friendly demeanour did not mask his assertiveness, which ensured each of us (tourists on the group) maintained the schedule.

Transport
The bus we got in Jordan was a large MB bus, and the seats were reasonably comfortable and with decent leg room for six footers. The audio system (mic & speakers) was good - which we took for granted till we did other trips! The driver was a jovial character, and he maintained a good speed throughout the journey, without making us feel uncomfortable despite the steep gradients and curves that he negotiated.

Conclusion
The journey was well planned - with periodic breaks, access to clean restrooms and giving us an idea of the souvenirs that we could buy on the trip. We also got a chance to savour the Kanafeh, a popular Jordanian dessert, without having to pay extra for it.

Overall, a great experience and I wouldn't think twice to recommend Abraham Tours.

In general very good; highlights were sites visited - Jarash & Petra - and proficiency of Abdullah the guide, on the down side there were many hours of bus travel.
