Discover the sanctuary and meet the Bonobo families. Go for a tour of the area, and enjoy the local flora and fauna. You will be able to see several families, living on the territory, which highly resembles their natural habitat deep in the north of Congolese jungle.

We enjoyed experiencing Kinshasa through this amazing experience
The guide was deeply passionate about Kinshasa's history and culture and kept us happily engaged during this wonderful tour. One of our favorite moment was the view of the Congo River. We enjoyed experiencing Kinshasa through this amazing experience.

          A day in Kinshasa
Kevin showed me around in Kinshasa. We had a car and driver and visited main monuments, the national museum, the presidential palace and parliament in addition to the river etc. It’s a crowded and busy city and a good guide and car are essential.

The tour guide was so passionate about the history of Kinshasa
The tour guide was a passionate person who narrated to us so much about the history of various places of Kinshasa that were covered in this educative walking tour. Kinshasa is indeed a place to experience with so much of unspoiled beauty around. We saw a few bustling local markets and the view at the banks of Congo River was breathtaking.

This tour must not be missed when one is in Kinshasa. It was amazing to see this sanctuary for Bonobos, a species of apes closely related to humans. The tour guide ensured that the entire tour was eco-friendly and that is appreciated. This tour has been the most real life educative moment in my life and I highly recommend this tour.

The experience left a lasting impact on us, as it was about conservation and education about the Bonobos and the vital work being done to protect them. Watching them interact and play was a heartwarming sight. Our guide answered all our questions with such detail, from the sanctuary's rescue efforts to what is done toward their protection.

Etienne, our English speaking guide, was excellent at translating the French for us and finding a shady place by the river to eat our bag lunch afterwards. I applaud everything Lola Ya Bonobo sanctuary is doing for the bonobos. Watching the bonobos come our of the forest when it was feeding time and eating the papayas was fun to watch. I enjoyed seeing the 3 different groups of bonobos in their different locations. With the scorching sun beating down on our heads, the longest flight of steps almost did in these two 79 year old women!

This place is an absolute gem and a must-see for anyone interested in wildlife conservation. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the serene environment and the incredible work being done to protect these endangered Bonobos. For me, it was uplifting and educational experience.

The sanctuary is located in an area a few km from the metropolitan city of Kinshasa, surrounded by green hills and tropical vegetation with the river and local workers who extract sand from the river with their bare hands.
The tour begins with a brief description of the bonobos, the fourth family of monkeys present in the world (the others are: chimpanzees, gorillas and orangutans) which occupies a large area of Congo. We then visit the baby bonobos who are raised and cuddled by the guards and saved from poaching and the wars that still rage north-east of Congo. You are then accompanied on a circular tour of about 2 km where you see the adult bonobos in the wild interacting with visitors in a nice but… not very welcoming way 😄

*Likely to sell out: Based on Viator’s booking data and information from the provider from the past 30 days, it seems likely this experience will sell out through Viator, a Tripadvisor company.
