- markbP169HZ0 contributionsSolo Traveler to Mtskheta!I had a wonderful Daytrip to Mtskheta with my guide Khato. She was patient while I shopped in the old village, insightful with tons of information on our tour and quick thinking with a different option since had already seen the Chronicles of Georgia. Plus we had fun sharing life experiences along the way! Khato was a delight to meet! Thank you! Mark B. - Durham, NC, USAWritten 30 December 2024
- tg3460050 contributionsJust book this tour alreadyBest tour I've ever been on. We actually got to walk through the Rainbow Mountains with our awesome guide Alex. No other tour offering "Rainbow Mountains" gets to do that. They just view them from afar. Here you actually get to see them up close. It's fantastic. Then the monastery visits are incredible and the drive itself offroad is pretty fun in itself. Lunch is such a highlight because you are in this very small village in the middle of the Georgian desert that makes incredible food in this very rustic building with unbelievable character. I could not recommend this tour enough. It's just worth it. The price to value is second to none. No other tour will give you the experience the friendly.ge team provides you.Written 16 December 2024
- tg3460050 contributionsThis tour is worth itOksana was absolutely fantastic. Very personable, incredibly informative, and goes the extra mile. She has a great way of communicating fun, interesting facts about T'bilisi. The walk itself was enjoyable and the new Tiflis part of the city is worth exploring in its own right. Great guide, interesting tour. Highly recommendWritten 14 December 2024

- gustavow8880 contributionsA Family Visit to Mtskheta: A Journey into Georgia's Spiritual HeartOur family visit to Mtskheta, the ancient capital of Georgia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was nothing short of magical. Nestled at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi Rivers, Mtskheta is not just a city but a portal to the rich history, spirituality, and culture of Georgia. Here's a glimpse into our unforgettable experience. The Serenity of Svetitskhoveli Cathedral Our first stop was the iconic Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, one of the most sacred sites in Georgia. The grandeur of its stone walls, combined with the intricate carvings and frescoes inside, left us awe-struck. Walking through the cathedral, we learned about its legend as the burial site of Christ’s robe. The spiritual atmosphere was profound, and we spent a moment of quiet reflection as a family. The courtyard offered stunning views of the surrounding landscape, and we enjoyed taking photos with the cathedral as a backdrop. The local guides were knowledgeable, sharing stories that brought the history of Svetitskhoveli to life. Climbing to Jvari Monastery Next, we headed to the Jvari Monastery, perched high on a hill overlooking Mtskheta. The drive up was scenic, and the view from the top was breathtaking. Seeing the rivers merge below and the town of Mtskheta spread out in the valley was a moment of pure wonder. The monastery itself, a masterpiece of early medieval architecture, was simple yet profound in its beauty. We took our time exploring the grounds and capturing family photos with the panoramic views. The cool breeze and serene surroundings made it a perfect spot for a quiet moment together. Strolling Through the Old Town The cobblestone streets of Mtskheta’s Old Town were delightful to wander through. We explored small shops selling traditional Georgian crafts, souvenirs, and textiles. The kids enjoyed browsing through colorful trinkets, while we admired the artistry of local handicrafts. We also sampled some local snacks, including churchkhela (a Georgian sweet made of nuts and grape juice) and freshly baked bread from roadside vendors. The warmth of the locals added a special charm to the experience. A Taste of Georgian Cuisine Our family meal in a traditional Georgian restaurant was a highlight of the trip. We indulged in dishes like khinkali (dumplings), khachapuri (cheese-filled bread), and lobio (bean stew). The flavors were rich and comforting, and the kids particularly enjoyed trying the unique dishes. Paired with a glass of local Georgian wine for the adults, it was a perfect way to end our day in Mtskheta. Reflections on the Visit Mtskheta is not just a destination but a journey through Georgia's soul. From its sacred sites to its picturesque streets and warm hospitality, every moment in this ancient city felt special. Visiting with my family made it even more meaningful, as we shared moments of awe, learning, and connection. Tips for Families Visiting Mtskheta * Wear Comfortable Shoes: The cobblestone streets and monastery hikes require good footwear. * Bring a Camera: The views from Jvari Monastery and the charm of Old Town are picture-perfect. * Plan for a Meal: Georgian cuisine is a must-try, and Mtskheta has some excellent restaurants. * Hire a Guide: A local guide can enrich your experience with fascinating stories and historical context. Our family’s visit to Mtskheta was a journey we’ll cherish forever. It’s a place where history, spirituality, and natural beauty come together, creating an experience that lingers in your heart long after you leave.Written 3 December 2024
- earlysherr0 contributions100% RecommendWhat a tour. The itinerary was perfect; started with a coffee/breakfast stop, before off-roading, a short hike and then the visits. Lunch and the wine tasting were a great end to this trip. It was rather gloomy during our trip but the colours were still striking. Alex was a great guide who ensured all our questions were answered and our needs met. Also, definitely recommend this as I believe it is the only, or one of the few, that lets you get up close and personal with the mountains.Written 2 December 2024

- MargaretK20120 contributionsSo much fun!We really enjoyed our tour! Khatuna is a natural tour guide- she gave us so much additional info in that she answered all of our questions that came up randomly and were not even always related to the exact subject of the tour [brutalism architecture]. She was friendly, helpful and took us to so many cool places that we never would have made it to on our own! I would 100% recommend this tour to anyone visiting Tbilisi and it really was such a unique highlight of my time there. So fun to get off the beaten path and explore things you wouldn't get on the tourist track.Written 20 November 2024
- KarenBonavita0 contributionsRainbow Mountains - this is the tour to takeWe originally booked Rainbow Mountains tour with another group but were then advised THIS Off-Road adventure tour is far better - and it definitely was. Our 5-group tour traveled far into the Painted Mountains in the ‘Friendly.ge Tours’ 4x4 off-road vehicle that other tours do NOT use. The day was brilliant. We also hiked around the Painted Mountains for an hour+ and it was exhilarating. The monasteries were amazing, we met the monk who alone lives in one of them, lunch was superb. Our guide, Koba, and driver Vepho were the best. Vepho handled that off-road rugged driving all day with ease and was very friendly. Koba was a particularly special guide, informative, fun, patient, and he’s an artist. He actually made skilled, colorful drawings of Old Town for us while driving to the sights in a very bumpy off-road vehicle and while sharing information about Georgia and the sights. This was a unique way to visit the Painted Mountains and we’re so glad we changed the tour group that made for this fantastic day. Recommend - highly recommend - that you choose Friendly.ge and take this trip!Written 15 November 2024
- KarenBonavita0 contributionsWell worth taking this local, small group tour- Recommend!Walking slowly around Tbilisi on this small group tour is the best way to introduce yourself to this amazing city. So glad we took it. And having JONAH as our guide on this tour was the best. Jonah is highly intelligent-impressive, humorous, likable, fun. What a worthwhile and enjoyable 3 hours. He’s a history enthusiast, not only about Georgia and the region, but on international affairs. His knowledge is outstanding and we learned a lot. The way he shares information is very clear, and his English is perfect. He answered all our questions, and we had many. We appreciate our experiences in Georgia even more now. Jonah even recommended a restaurant as our trip ended that turned out to be a wise choice (other than the touristy one we had originally selected). We hope you take this tour and that Jonah is your guide as well. Thank you, Jonah!Written 5 November 2024
- Williec12340 contributionsHidden Gems For Sure!Jonah had me enthralled from the beginning of our tour around Tbilisi. He knew his stuff and told stories with great enthusiasm. - Ian_from_Canberra0 contributionsExcellent day tour from TbilisiThis is an excellent tour out of Tbilisi. The rainbow mountains are colourful and photogenic. The two monasteries are both interesting and located in very scenic places. Lunch in Udabno was very good. The wine tasting on the way back to Tbilisi was interesting, samples being drawn directly from the chilled tanks, including red wines. Our guide Sophia was excellent, and the vehicle and driver both good.Written 29 October 2024

- sashaf5280 contributionsOne of my best days in GeorgiaIt was absolutely amazing, we were able to take our time, have genuine conversations and experience the place. Jonah was also incredibly accommodating when it came to language, and was proactive in helping me with my Russian (which I am currently learning!). He did a good job in getting to know us individually and what we were each interested in. The wine tasting at the end was a personal highlight because Jonah has got to know us during the day and we were toasting/gathering as friends by the end. That was special. Best toastmaster, guide, historian and language exchange guy = Jonah. Unforgettable experience and so glad we did it. I would always book with friendly.ge as a first port of call.Written 16 October 2024

For sure the trip to Tusheti with Friendly.ge is an amazing experience, safe, unique and something you haven’t lived before. Visiting Tusheti is like you have travelled back in time with a time machine. The nature there and everything is so authentic, pure, magnificent, peaceful. Vepho, our driver, was the best we could have, responsible, helpful, I felt extremely safe the whole time, and he made the journey to Tusheti a lot easier than I expected after what I had read about the dangerous roads. Koba, our guide, was very helpful too, he knew many things about the history of Tusheti and made us understand and feel the life there, he had a great sense of humor, was calm and created a very positive vibe between all the members of the group. Koba and Vepho, were so kind and good humans, and they made the experience even more extraordinary. Also, the guesthouse where we lived, called Kepney, was the best choice, very very clean, well maintained, peaceful and with very tasty food, thanks to Natia, the manager of this place. I totally recommend the trip to Tusheti with Friendly.ge to anyone who wants to get away, to reconnect with nature and with all the things that truly matter in life, away from all the noise of everyday life.

I am a solo female traveler and booked to visit Tusheti the first week this tour was available after the infamous road opened. I found the particular highlights of this trip to be the small group size, which allowed for a lot of flexibility, and personability and skill of both our guide, Koba, and driver, Achi.
Given the reputation of the road to reach Tusheti and the roads between villages, I always felt safe with Achi at the wheel. Koba is an experienced guide and very skilled at accommodating the various wants and needs of a group. I enjoyed my time immensely, with both them and the other travelers on my trip (two other solo travelers). The only thing I would change is to add an extra day for more time to explore!
The Tushetian way of life if changing quickly; see it while you can.

The 3-day tour to tusheti did not feel like a tour but more like a trip with friends. The group was small therefore it felt very personal. Our guide and driver Aleksi and Achiko are really fun, nice and knowledgeable people. We felt safe the entire time on the road and saw so many different sites that came straight out of a fairytale. The whole experience feels unreal. The hotel and food provided was also delicious. I could not recommend this tour company enough.

Truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. And, before too long, as inhabitants move to lower altitudes and larger towns, and as tourism develops, it will likely be an experience that will no longer be available. I've been traveling for more than 50 years and in the tourism business for most of that time, and this tour ranked my top five.

We are speechless! So much so we’re still trying to process the magic of the last 3 days. We’ve been in Georgia for over 2 months and Tusheti may be our #1 highlight. So much so that if someone asked us about where to go in Georgia we’d recommend Tusheti even if you only have a week…it is absolutely magical. It all starts with the drive which is a HUGE part of this journey and the most exhilarating drive you’ll ever experience. This is a guarantee! We also want to say at no point will you feel unsafe!
Upon arriving in Tusheti you’ll feel like you are in a different country. Surrounded by breathtaking views and many incredible villages that are all unique. The traditions and history are fascinating.
Our guides at friendly, Koba and Achiko not only added to the experience but made it so much better. These guys are salt of the earth good people and are two of the best people to spend your time with. We cannot say enough good things about them! Also the company friendly.ge is the best. You will not feel like just any tourist and their attention to detail is second to none, you are in very good hands. If you are on the fence about going, trust us and do it…you’ll always remember Tusheti ❤️.

A lot of time was spent in the car, both on the way to/from Tusheti on day 1 and 3 and to/from other villages in the valley on day 2. One day extra for some more (obviously slower) hiking would have been ideal for us. Koba is a passionate and caring guide, and our driver was excellent , his experience on the difficult roads showed. The accomodation in Omalo was still brand new and had all amenities: e.g. a 'normal', porcelain toilet, in contrast to the 'toilets' on the road. The food there was great.

Hi Ruben and Marion,
Thank you very much for your feedback! We're glad to hear that you enjoyed your time in Tusheti, especially with Koba as your guide and our experienced driver. We understand that travel time can be long, and an extra day for slower walking would have been ideal for you.
For future trips, we offer a helicopter tour option that can save you time and allow you to stay in the mountains longer, giving you the chance to fully enjoy the breathtaking scenery without the long drive.
We're also pleased that you enjoyed the accommodations in Omalo and the great food. We're grateful that you were able to join the tour, even under difficult circumstances.
Thank you again for traveling with us and we hope to see you on another adventure soon!

Amazaballs!!!
We decided to do another trip with Friendly, our guide Koba and driver Achi were the same gentlemen we day tripped with to the Rainbow Mountains and Monastries. Besides my wife and I a lady from Hongkong joined us. We ended up to be a perfect group to trave. The road to Tusheti is something else, you steadily drive upwards on a one lane road carved out of the mountain sides, truly spectacular and a good way to test whether your body still produces adrenaline! The views during the 70 KM drive are SPECTACULAR! Achi, our driver navigated the road with utmost care, a true pro. Koba filled us in on what we looked at and what could be expected in a very conversational style leading to "back & forthts" and some good laughs.
The Tusheti region is unparalelled, nature is of the utmost beauty. The settlements you so all over tell stories of a life past. Yet, not really. The region is settled for 4 months or so each years. People bring up their life stock up the mountain and take them back down sometime late september early October. A sight to behold.
We had 2 nights in a "home stay" eating deliscious food and experiencing how the locals live. Their hospitalilty is just fantastic. Kinder people you'll rarely meet.
Koba and Achi became friends on the trip and when we return we'll be sure to raise a few more glassess of Cha Cha. Thanks so much gentlemen! You made it very special!

Dear Sjaak,
Wow, we are absolutely thrilled to read your review! Thank you for putting your trust in Friendly Georgia and our team. It's fantastic to hear that Koba and Achi were able to make your 3 Day Tusheti Tour an unforgettable experience.
Your vivid description of the journey and the landscapes just highlights the incredible natural beauty that Georgia has to offer. We're delighted to know that the "home stay" and the warm hospitality you received from the locals added to the richness of your trip.
It's heartwarming to hear that Koba and Achi became friends during your tour. We'll be sure to pass on your kind words to them.
We can't wait to welcome you back to Georgia for more adventures and, of course, a few more shots of Cha Cha!

An amazing experience, definitely the highlight of my trip to Georgia. The drive from Tbilisi to Omalo makes you feel like you are being transported to a different world.
Our trip started out and Tbilisi, we had a plenty of stops along the way to stretch our legs and buy snacks/supplies we would want for the trip. On the way to Omalo we stopped at a beautiful church our guide Aleksi did a exceptional job of describing the history of the church. We stop as well at a picnic area on the side of the road on abano pass for lunch which gave us beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Once in Omalo we stayed at a very nice guesthouse we had comfortable accomodations and exceptional breakfast and dinner, the guest house was well maintained and they were very kind.
Every aspect of the trip was well thought out, our driver Achiko was professional and kind I felt safe throught the whole trip. Our guide Aleksi did an amazing job of describing the history behind every place we visited. I'm leaving this trip with a lot more knowledge of the region and Georgia as well.
Overall it was experience I will remenber for a lifetime and I definitely won't forget our group or the exceptional staf at friendly.ge. I would recommend anyone to go on this trip it's really great experience.

I went to Georgia to do the "fun run" in Kazbegi, and was interested to see a bit more of the country.
I found this small-group tour with Friendly.ge and I am so glad that I added it to my short trip in Georgia. It was a magic and wonderful experience.
The name says it all - Friendly. The people! - Expert guide Koba, skilled and safe driver Vepho, nice people at the Guesthouse and others we met along the way. And of course the other "Team members" in the group, much younger than me and great fun to be with.
For sure its a long time in the vehicle. I was going to say a long time "on the road", but I am not sure that is the right word! But to get away from the busy world, to have to cover some ground. Anyway, with stops along the way, the fantastic views and good conversation and info from Koba, the journey seemed to pass by quickly. It felt safe and reasonably comfortable in the Mitsubishi Delica.
The visits to the villages were really interesting. The walking / hiking was a reasonable distance and at a good pace. We were given some choice in what we wanted to do.
On day 2, a few of us did the final part of the trip back to the guesthouse on horses that were arranged just a few hours before, and available at the last spot that we visited.
Comfortable accommodation with great food, and of course - the wine!
I highly recommend this tour - I went as a solo traveler but in a small group like this you get to experience more and enjoy the company.
Many thanks to Friendly.ge for putting this together.

Amazing off road and off grid experience in Tusheti region in Georgia with a great guide and driver!
Very well organised trip into the Tusheti region! With special thanks to guide Koba and driver Vepho. We had great days, lots of fun and an unforgettable experience. Koba knows a lot about the past of the region, how the villages were built and how people lived there or still live there. This trip took us to a part of the world which is pure and untouched (let’s hope it will stay like that). The views over the landscape are magnificent and beyond you’ve ever see. It’s quite a long journey to get there, but it is very worth it and driver Vepho knows the road very well. The overnight stay in Omalo in hotel Kepney was also very good and the food was delicious! We would recommend this trip!
