Solo Trip to Egypt
The places we visited were awesome and amazing. Actually, beyond amazing but I can't think of a better word. :) Ahmad, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable of the places we visited and local customs.

However, I would suggest that the company be amenable to accepting other cards besides just Visa and MC.

A safe, positive and incredible experience
Feb 2019 • Friends
Hello future Nubians and Beaches explorers! I just completed the 13- Day Tour and it was amazing. Mariah with Encounter Tours was very attentive to coordinate our pre-tour paperwork. She responded promptly to all inquiries I had made. Upon arriving to Cairo, we were greeted by Saul, the Tour Manager. He quickly directed us through the hustle and bustle of Customs at the airport with no delay. Our 13- Day official tour guide Mohamed Kareem (Egyptologist) was very engaging with his knowledge, professionalism and humor. He truly demonstrates his love of the job.
I was very impressed on how coordinated all the excursions were. Kudos to the other guide staff such as the boat attendants and security guards for keeping us safe and worry free.
I highly recommend booking this tour and experiencing Egypt. I can't wait to book my next adventure through Encounters Tours....great job!!

The best trip of my life

I have travelled a lot and by far this was the most incredible tour I have been on. Our travel guide Mohamed Kareem (Egyptologist) was caring, welcoming, HILARIOUS and his impressive wealth of knowledge was utterly invaluable. The people, towns and sites of Egypt were so rich in culture, authentic and the vibe was incredible. Pictures that you see on the internet and shows on TV do not do this place the justice it truly deserves. I could not speak more highly of Egypt, Mohamed and Encounter Tours.

We chose Encounters Travel due to its commitment to local development ,, environmental issues and use of only Egyptian guides. The holiday was superbly organised under the supervision of Mohamed Karim our guide who proved to be not only a verssive balloony knowledgeable egyptologist but sympathetic ..and fun!! We thoroughly enjoyed the trip which was pretty full on but contained everything we needed..great hotels, good food, wonderful felucca boat cruise, Abu Simbel , balloon flight and so much more. Well done Encounters and above all we could speak to someone regularly before the trip who knew all about the tour as she lives in Cairo!!

This was a trip I'll never forget and Encounters could not have done a more amazing job of making it an enjoyable, unforgettable experience. My tour guide Big Mo (trained Egyptologist) was friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodated the group in a way he should be proud of. He made sure we knew where to shop for authentic Egyptian items, negotiated with hotel for late check outs, ensured we were safe during a sandstorm, and was simply a joy to be around the entire trip. Encounters covered the cost of a hotel room for the group during a sandstorm in Aswan, provided transport to local shops at no extra cost, and accommodated many in the group when travel plans changed. They provided options excursions such as a hot air balloon ride (mind blowing), scuba diving the Red Sea (equally mind blowing), a horse drawn carriage ride through an Aswan village, and a dinner cruise on the Nile River. All of these experiences were first class. The representatives were courteous, knowledgeable, and friendly.

This was my second tour with Encounters (Morocco was first) and I recommend anyone thinking about traveling to Egypt or Morocco to use Encounters. I know I will in the future.

Simply the best! I decided to celebrate my birthday by booking a family trip to this beautiful country that is Egypt. We were picked up from the airport by lovely Waleed who assisted us at the immigration desk and also offered to help with our luggage. Given our time of arrival we were pretty hungry, and Waleed did not hesitate to stop off and buy us something to eat! The following day we were introduced to Big Mo, our tour guide who was simply the best! Looking back, he was so patient with us all.. His knowledge on Egyptology is certainly extensive and as a true professional he tailored his knowledge to our level.Always ready to answer any questions we may have. Moreover, he consistently reminded us of not forgetting our bags or passports behind, ensuring that we consistently drank water, explaining to us the local customs etc etc He arranged our late check out at the hotels on two occasions (free of charge). He also liaised with management at Encounters in order to secure an extra night for free at the hotel in Aswan given we could not go on the Felucca Trip due to bad weather.
To be quite honest, I have never felt so much at ease in knowing that we were in safe hands! Big Mo´s attention to details and duty of care is second to none and at no point in time did he seem false, upset or impatient from the start of the tour until the end. Some of us in the group needed to buy wine, cigarettes, silver and gold jewellery etc and nothing was too much to ask. Believe it or not we even had wi fi available whilst driving to either town or temple. some of us were not well during the trip and Big Mo was there to assist asking if he should call a Doctor etc
What can I say Big MO?? we miss you already and we certainly miss Egypt already!! Encounters Travel have certainly made their mark on us and we certainly will contact them in the near future
THANK YOU EVER SO MUCH BIG MO!!

Encounters Travel fulfilled #1 on my travel bucket list.

2018 is a great time to visit Egypt. The Arab Spring has long passed and tourism will continue to grow. You know the news media always makes events seem scarier than they actually are. I'm so glad I visited when the sites are less crowded. I did not feel "in danger" at any time. Armed guards are provided at all the tourists sites as the country wants tourism to be safe.

Encounters travel agent, Islam, met us at Cairo Airport baggage claim. i was surprised as guides usually meet outside this area. Islam imparted a sense of calm authority immediately. Islam attended to our luggage and visas. No worries. On our van drive to the hotel in Giza, Islam told us the particulars we needed to know for our adventure.

The next day, Islam introduced us to Sheriff, our expert Egyptologist who would accompany us to Cairo to the Citadel of Saladin and the Coptic Christian sites.
Sheriff accompanied us to Giza, Aswan, Valley of the Kings, Philae Temple, Abu Simbel, Kom combo Temple Edfu Temple, Karnak and Luxor.

Sheriff is a deep well of knowledge. You will want to keep him by your side all the time. He has a unique way of teaching one to remember hieroglyphics to kings. Passionate.
And he shares his passion for the architectural wonders of these powerful structures.

Mohammad met our small group in Luxor and accompanied us on the drive to Malkadi and the Sunset Resort . When we requested additional sightseeing he made all the arrangements.

Islam, Sheriff and Mohammad went above and beyond to accommodate our every request.
Thank you, Islam
Thank you ,Sheriff
Thank you ,Mohammad

Don't travel to Egypt expecting it to be like a trip to Europe ~~ it isn't, that is the delight.

Must travel to Egypt - and through Encounters Travel!
Feb 2018 • Friends
If you have any interest in seeing the Antiquities of Egypt, this is the perfect time to go, and the BEST tour company to use is Encounters Travel. I found them on Trip Advisor and realized very quickly that it was the right decision. They are dedicated to making your trip successful in every sense of the word. They treat their clients like family, and we learned that in Egypt, there is no greater bond than family.

After a very long trip from the United States to Cairo (through Saudi Arabia – that takes 2 calendar days) we arrived at 10:00 pm local time to the smiling face and calm demeanor of Islam – Encounters’ all-encompassing trip manager. He patiently guided us through the Visa process and on to baggage, where it was a wild and long wait for our bags as well as 2 other trip goers. On the ride to the hotel, he told us everything we needed to know about this new land we were exploring – and how to get the most out of our travels. He delivered us to the hotel and made sure that all was satisfactory and all optional trips were decided on and purchased before he left us to rest a few hours before the next day’s adventures began.

From that moment on we had a glorious 13 day tour of antiquities from Cairo to Luxor and ended with a most relaxing 5 days in Hurghada Sunrise Resort. Definitely the way to go! We flew back to Cairo for one night and enjoyed a walk through the markets with our guide and a very impressive male dance show including whirling dervishes – must see! The next day we had one last tour of Memphis and Saqqara – first ever pyramids and were happy to see more of the small villages on the drive out and back.
The options we chose included Abu Simbel, which is well worth the early start, a hot air balloon ride over the Valley of the Kings – also worth the price and the early rise. As septuagenarians we opted for the upgrade for another night in the hotel in Aswan after the day’s felucca ride. Definitely the right decision for us! We also went on a snorkeling trip in Hurghada – absolutely beautiful! And of course, a couple of massages at the resort. But everything else there was all inclusive. Our Hurghada guide, Mohammed, also very pleasant, met our every need including snorkeling trip, transportation, and shopping.

Our Egyptologist, Sherriff Hassan, was simply the best at his craft that Egypt has to offer. We met him first when we arrived a day early and opted for a tour of a temple and the Coptic Christian community. We appreciated his attention to detail and great sense of humor. Throughout the trip he made sure that everyone in the group – there were 12 in all – received all of the information they sought. Our group was wonderful, and everyone was engaged in learning about this great land and its history. Sherriff makes everything come to life and his teaching style is such that you will understand and remember the history and symbolism better than you ever think you could. Sherriff wants your experience in his homeland to be superb – and to reach that end, he will do everything he can to help you purchase any specialty products you want – whether it be wonderful Egyptian cotton, essences, papyrus, gold, silver, small souvenirs – whatever it may be – Sherriff knows someone who knows someone and he gets you the very best prices. He also made sure that we had some authentic Egyptian meals and experiences. All just perfect!

One of the highlights of this trip for me was the variety of the transportation used to get us from Cairo to Hurghada. Most of the touring part was done in a small bus – which was just perfect for our group. Water was always available for us to purchase ($1 American – for 2 bottles – can’t beat that!) We took an overnight train from Cairo to Aswan – and what an experience that was! (There is a flight upgrade if you desire) but we were happy to have the experience of the train – and it is just one night.

We took a boat ride to see the temple at Filae and another boat ride on the Nile to a Nubian Village where we had a marvelous local dinner. Fabulous experience! The felucca ride from Aswan was such a highlight and we had a lovely locally made dinner there before making it back to our hotel that night. The next day we took another bus down to meet our group and continue to Luxor.

As far as hotels, we had rather low expectations because of the very low cost of the trip overall, but all of the hotels exceeded our expectations. We had heard that the Sunrise (which is in Makadi – not the town of Hurghada) is a bit dated – and that it may be – but the layout is beautiful – with many pools – some of them heated and the Red Sea – just right there and very accessible. We spoke with one man from Ireland who said that they had stayed at a fancier hotel near there – but that the food was very limited and nothing as good as at Sunrise. There is just not enough to be said for the variety and availability of food at Sunrise! And all very tasty! As far as the all-inclusive drinks – the quality of the alcoholic drinks is not great but the quantity makes up for it. Of course, you can get more quality if you’re willing to pay for it. Very few Americans pass through there – and few for any length of time – so our 5 night stay was an anomaly. (Most of the travelers there are from Europe – many from Eastern Europe.) We were treated as royalty by all staff. Our last night in Cairo we stayed at the Steinenberger Hotel which I would classify as 5 star – a real 5 star hotel. They allowed us to extend our checkout to 2:00 and hang out at their pool (with locker room and shower availability) until 5:00 – since we had a very late flight out of Cairo.

One of the lowlights of the trip for me was the poverty that surrounds you and the helplessness that I felt. Because of the 2011 uprising and the unrest in the country, tourism is down and the ration of poor people to tourists is very much higher. Do not worry about safety if you plan to stay in tourist areas – which we did. There is a strong presence of armed guards and many security checkpoints. However, you will run into many “hasslers” at the tourist sites and in the cities. It is just a fact of life and your guide will help you deal with it.

Of course, no trip is ever without schedule changes and small glitches, but this one had the fewest I’ve ever encountered, and when anything arose, Islam, Sherriff and Mohammed handled them with expertise and charm.

I am so happy that I took this trip and so grateful for Trip Encounters, particularly Islam and Sherriff, for making it so very enjoyable!

Family trip to Egypt
Thank you Encounters Travel for your time and patience with all my questions before booking this trip! Egypt has been beyond amazing and has surpassed what we (my mom, sister and myself) thought it would be.

Our tour manager, Islam, was so helpful and friendly throughout our trip and we were thankful to have him in the background organising each step! Luckily we didn't have any real issues but some others in our group did and we saw firsthand how hard and quickly he worked to resolve it and to make everyone happy. We thought everything was well planned out and his concern for our happiness was much appreciated.

Our tour guide, Hani, couldn't haven been better! He was so knowledgable, friendly and fun! Best guide ever!! We also had Waleed as a guide when our 2 groups joined together. He also was great!!! We had a few minor hiccups (mainly room wise in hotels) and Hani or Waleed were really quick to sort it out with the hotel staff to resolve it.

I don't even think I can find the words to describe this trip! It was really nice to do a week of intense site seeing followed by a week at a beautiful resort in Hurghada!

We were very happy with our trip and will defiantly come back to Egypt and use Encounters again!
