          Great experience
We had the best time with Salma as our tour guide. She was full of knowledge and very attentive to our needs. Highly recommend to anyone. She answered all of our questions and was prompt on time. Salma arranged tickets before so we didn’t wait in line. Thank you for the experience

We had a luxor tour with our guid Mohamed Noor, and it was perfect. We visit all the temples in the itinerary and he was always super friendly and eager to answer our questions. He was never pushy and we felt he cared about us having the best experience. The best guide we had in Egypt!

          Day in Luxor
Mohamed Noor was our guide through the day in Luxor and we could not ask for a better experience. Among all he’s knowledgeable and kind. He’s patient and does not rush through the experiences. Also he was super thoughtful and offer us time to take photographs in the temples. Really a kind person with so much experience that could answer almost anything you ask. We would highly recommend him for a tour either for the day or any of the temples in Luxor!

The best tour guide Mohamed Noor
Did a day tour of the East and West banks of Luxor. Our guide Mohamed Noor took us to the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut and the valley of the Kings where we visited the tombs of Rameses 3,4 and 9. We also visited Karnak and the Luxor Temple. Mohamed was a fantastic guide, he was so informative and caring. It was a very hot day and he looked after us with water and a beautiful lunch. Thanks Mohamed for making our trip to Luxor one to remember forever.

Incredible cruise + hot air balloon
Spent so many wonderful moments !!! The cruise is amazing with the landscapes ! And the temples also were great with great guides. Food is also really good. And the organisation is 1000/100! Indeed, our hot air balloon was unfortunately cancelled due to the wind but the staff (WhatsApp) was amazing !! They put us on the next day and we did the air balloon….. best experience ever ! Thanks to Abdallah and Maryem.

Perfect Luxor Trip with Our Great Guide, Muhammed
Me and my boyfriend had a great experience with our guide Muhammed. He has a deep knowledge about the historical places and provided us with very interesting and little-known informations that we were looking for. He is also very kind and has a fun personality. We talked and laughed a lot during our trip. It felt like we were traveling with a friend. Although his guiding was done, he called us to ask if we arrived safely and need anything when we went to another city, and helped us by contacting his local friends. To be honest, we wouldn't have a better guide. It was an awesome experience thanks to Muhammed. I would definitely recommend you to travel with him!

Don't book with Sphinx of Egypt
Edit: Since posting this review, I was contacted by the agents who offered me a 50% refund to delete this review. We searched the internet, did our research and we booked this 5-day cruise to go alongside other excursions in Cairo. In total we had booked a week in Egypt with very little wiggle room, it was going to be a very full-on holiday from the moment we landed! We were due to start our trip on Tuesday. On Sunday night (23:51) we began to receive WhatsApp from Sphinx of Egypt (we are extremely lucky that we had Wi-Fi in this hotel as most hotels did not have a great connection if any Wi-Fi was available) - however, we did not see these messages until early the next morning. With under 24 hours until we were meant to be picked up, we were told there were no internal flights. We tried to message and sort this out as soon as possible, but we also had plans for that Monday and were very stressed. Sphinx of Egypt were terrible at getting back to us. As the night continued, we still did not have a plan for the following morning. At 01:29 on Tuesday, the day we were meant to be flying to Luxor, Sphinx of Egypt finally confirmed that we were now booked onto the 4-day Cruise (this cruise should have cost us £277.86 less than we paid), they booked our flights (spelled our names wrong) and we had to find accommodation for that Tuesday and change our plans. We were promised that we were going to be refunded for the missing day (5-to-4-day Cruise). Day 1 - Wednesday, we were picked up swiftly in a nice air-conditioned car and taken to the airport. The flight was quick and I imagine most people on board were going on one of the Nile Cruises. Once in ASWAN (not Luxor) we were picked up by Zack, and we were put in a group with another young family making a group of 8. We were given lunch bags from the Cruise, containing bread rolls and fruit juice (this bag contained cheese sandwiches but throughout the holiday the bags only contained meat – not good for vegetarians!). We travelled in an air-conditioned mini bus with seatbelts! We were encouraged to leave our baggage in the van as we began our tour. The High Dam and Low Dam were our first stops on our multi-day tour. The price was 100 EGP per person, 50 EGP for students, and under 5s go free. An interesting history, but not much to see, we were here for around 10 minutes. Our second stop of the day was Philae Temple. We needed to take a short but relaxing boat ride to the island, the temple had been moved due to flooding from the Dams construction. The original site of the temple was said to be one of the islands where Isis had found one of Osiris's body parts. Tickets cost 200 EGP per person, 100 EGP for students (I believe 6–17-year-olds), and free for 5 and under! Next Zack took us to our Cruise boat, the King Tut I. Zack was a fantastic tour guide, kind, informative and helpful. The boat itself was large, and impressive although dated. At dinner we were sat with the others in our tour group, the food was buffet style and although there was something for everyone, food was a little selective for vegetarians and children. It’s important to note that, although the details of the Cruise mentioned ‘Food is included, pay for drinks’, this includes water - Large water bottles we 40 EGP from the cruise ship. We were on the bottom deck and the room was spacious and clean however, the bedding did not fit the bed very well, there were no plugs and no Wi-Fi, we had to unplug to tv to charge our phones. There was a constant humming from the engines which surprisingly did not bother us (The humming was very loud while the boat was moving but, although we had to shout to hear each other, it wasn’t too much of an issue). The TV only worked while we were ported. Day 2 – Thursday, our day started early with a wakeup call at 3:30, leaving at 04:00. We were given breakfast bags, which contained a breakfast pastry, a fruit, meat rolls, fruit juice and a hardboiled egg. Then, we had a 3-hour drive to Abu Simbel. Tickets cost 260 EGP + 15 tour guide fee per person, under 5s go free! The temple complex was huge but we only had a limited time of 1 hour in each temple as our boat was departing at 2 pm! Again, this temple complex had been moved and rebuilt due to the Dam. Once back at the boat, we had lunch (buffet style) while the cruise ship moved down the Nile to our next location. It was very pleasant on the deck while the boat sailed, my daughter enjoyed the pool which was VERY cold! We went to Kom Ombo late in the day as the sun was setting. There were plenty of people trying to sell us things at the entrance, some of them were young children who were targeting my young daughter with jewellery while I was alone with her and my husband was buying the tickets. Luckily, other tourists helped separate the children from my daughter. Tickets were 160 EGP per person, 80 EGP for students (6-17-year-olds), and under 5s go free! The temple was beautiful in the sunset, our tour guide was very informative and explained how Kom Ombo is a very unusual temple as it is split in half (or doubled) and dedicated to Sobek the crocodile God, and Horus the falcon-headed God. Next to Kom Ombo was the Crocodile Museum, with several mummified crocodiles it was interesting to learn about their history. Day 3 - Friday, another early morning, this time we were not given a breakfast bag. The temple of Horus or Edfu Temple, which is massive. Tickets were 200 EGP per person, 100 EGP for students (6–17-year-olds), and free for 5 and under! We paid by card as in Egypt everyone wants a tip and we were running out of cash! Our day started early with a horse and cart to the temple (poor horses!). The temple is beautifully preserved. The temple itself took nearly 200 years to build and is huge. There are areas for the normal people of ancient Egypt, the nobles, the royals, and the priests. The temple is dedicated to Horus, the son of Isis and Osiris. You can see where Christians and others have defaced some of the temples through the years and many invasions of Egypt. Arriving back at the boat we could then have breakfast. For the rest of the day the boat was cruising, and we managed to have breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the boat. We went to the pool and enjoyed our time playing cards on the deck. Day 4 – Saturday was crazy - far too busy. Again, another early morning, we woke up around 03:00 to go on the hot air balloons. We were given breakfast bags. We waited on a boat to cross the river; we watched other balloons fly into the air while we waited for the last few tourists to come. Once we arrived at the site, we were told it was too windy (very slight breeze), we were told if we had arrived 10 minutes earlier, we could have made it! Again, there were a lot of children trying to sell things, we gave them our breakfast bags and they were extremely grateful, it was very sad. We were driven to a café to wait for our tour guild Selma. Our next stop The Valley of the Kings, is a must-see! Tickets 260 EGP per person, 80 for students (6-17-year-olds), 5 and under go free! Additional tombs are 100 EGP, however, for Rameses V and VI, it was 1000 EGP per person, Seti I 300 EGP, and Tutankhamun I believe 400 EGP. We paid by card. After paying, you are greeted by a golf cart, it will cost you 10 EGP per person to drive halfway to the valley, it is a little pointless but also super-hot! The 260 EGP tickets will get you into 3 tombs. Although we planned well, on the day we were a little overwhelmed and just choose 3 random tombs instead of being well prepared!! The tombs we went to were Merenptah - KV64, Ramesses I, and Ramesses III. It is worth researching which tombs to see before arriving as you are limited by time once you are there. We then went to the Colossi of Memnon, this was a quick ‘stop and take a photo’ moment, while we were driving around, no tickets were needed. Temple of Hatshepsut was amazing, it is huge, however, by this point in the day we had been awake for 7 hours without breakfast or lunch in the midday sun, and our daughter was exhausted. Tickets were 160 EGP per person, 80 for students (6–17-year-olds), and free for 5 and under. You will need a few hours to explore the Temple of Hatshepsut. We were told that Aswan was also a mining city, we found that Cairo was extremely friendly to children, Aswan as well, but not as much, Luxor however, we found very tip heavy, this was explained to us that they are only a tourist destination and were hit hard during the pandemic. Almost everywhere we stepped a guard was pushing to take a photo of us to get a tip, or encouraging our daughter to go across the line (where tourists were not meant to go), for a photo and then a tip. The temple was amazing; however, it was now 46C and we were tired. We stopped for lunch and then paid 100 EGP to cross the river again. Next, we went to Luxor Temple, tickets cost 180 EGP per person, 90 for students (6-17-year-olds), and free for under 5s. It was a very interesting temple with ancient Egyptian and Roman elements and lots of detail. You could still see the paint from the Egyptians as well as see where the Romans tied their horses. There was a wall of Alexander the Great and statues of Tutankhamun and his wife. The avenue of the Sphinxes lines the road to the Temple of Luxor, included with the Temple of Luxor. Now we were meant to go to the Temple of Karnak, however, as a group we voted to go back to the boat as we were all exhausted, I really regret not going to Karnak temple but it was so hot and by this point, we had been awake for 11 hours, barely stopped to have a drink, it was 46C and we still had to catch a plane back to Cairo. They had squeezed far too much into one day. We were taken back to the Cruise boat and waited until we were picked up to go to the airport, after a short flight we arrived back in Cairo around 01:00. There is no comparison, the 5-day tour was meant to be spaced out, I’m sure we would have ended up exhausted as well, however, this was nearly impossible, throughout the tour we barely slept, we ate very little and we were on the go nonstop. The guides, especially Zack were amazing and did a great job explaining the monuments and bringing the history to life. Everyone who was in our group and we spoke to had booked through a third party, had ended up with Sphinx of Egypt and they all had issues with the date their tour was meant to start as well as being told last minute. We were told that we would be refunded for our missing day and for the hot air balloon. We saw that others, who had paid in cash, had been refunded $65 per person for the missed hot air balloon. We were not. We ended up chasing our refund through our credit card. Throughout this tour, we ended up paying entrance fees with our credit card at every entrance as the tipping culture is crazy! It was much cheaper (card dependent) to pay via credit card than to withdraw money. The tour guide preferred cash as the line was quicker. The driving in Luxor and Aswan was a lot calmer than Cairo! However, we found the people much friendlier in Cairo followed by Aswan, less friendly in Luxor. Throughout Egypt, everyone expects a tip, however in Luxor there were many children on the streets trying to sell trinkets as well as guards encouraging you to step into restricted sections, we were told it is because they rely only on tourism. Just a reminder about the Cruise, drinks are not included, even water, and you don’t have many opportunities to stock up so make sure you get water when you can. As many blogs have said, work out how much money to take, and triple it as everyone expects something! Having a credit card really helped us out! Our original tour was supposed to start on Tuesday and include; Day 1 - fly to Luxor, Valley of the Kings, Temple of Hatshepsut and Colossi of Memnon, Day 2 - Temple of Karnak, Luxor Temple, Avenue of Sphinxes and Hot air balloon, Day 3 - Temple of Horus and Temple of Kom Ombo, Day 4 - Abu Simbel, Day 5 - Temple of Philae, High and Low Dam and flight to Cairo. What happened; Day 1 - Fly to Aswan, High and Low Dam and Temple of Philae, Day 2 - Abu Simbel and Kom Ombo, Day 3 - Temple of Horus, Day 4 - Hot air balloon, Valley of the Kings, Colossi of Memnon, Temple of Hatshepsut, Luxor Temple, Avenue of Sphinxes and Temple of Karnak. The 4-day Cruise was ridiculous. Everything was crammed in, and we didn’t have much time to explore. Temples like Luxor and Abu Simbel were huge, however, because of timing we had to leave so we could only spend around an hour there. At the end of our holiday, we were asked to review Sphinx of Egypt, we asked when we would be receiving our partial refund, and they then replied saying we did not need to review them.

Amazing trip in east and west bank of Luxor
Our tour guide, Mohamed Noor, is a gentleman who knows a lot of details about the tombs and temples from ancient Egypt to current discoveries. He speaks fluent English with no problem of communicating and conveying the knowledge he has. We enjoyed the tour not only because of his informative guide but also the way he took care of our next journey after his guide. I appreciate Mohamed Noor a lot and would highly recommend him to other visitors.
