- evatE350IQ0 contributionsAmazing Kenya experience!I can only recommend Bush-thorns Adventures and Safaris! Amazing experience. Both Joseph and Samuel are great guides, friendly people with a ton of knowledge to share. I loved the respect they showed towards the nature and animals, which sadly is not always the case with other tour operators, as we witnessed a few times. I would especially recommend their service to people with deeper interest in nature, most of all zoology, as their knowledge is far beyond average. Our group consisted of people who all studied biology in the past (and most are still active in the field) and we were super pleased to be able to determine pretty much any species we saw and to learn more details about their ecology. I also appreciated that the safari plan can be tailored to our needs, including the decisions about what locations to see, the budget and accommodation levels, vegetarian food options, pick up times and so on. The communication and planning was smooth and pleasant and allowed us to explore Kenya's national parks in a non-stressful way while still learning so much. It was my first trip to Africa and it was awesome, thank you guys once again! Best of luck!Written 18 June 2024
- C1234470 contributionsAbsolutely amazing! The trip was incredible! We spent two days in the Maasai Mara and two days in Amboseli National Park. Sam and Zack made the trip absolutely amazing! From their talent in spotting animals to their deep knowledge of wildlife, they added so many great dimensions to the experience: fun stories, deep cultural knowledge, top tier photographer skills, and vision that could compete with an eagle. Everything was so well organized and smooth, it was so easy for us to relax and enjoy the experience. They were also so much fun to be around. Really positive and with so much knowledge to share! I am so grateful to have had this experience with them and could not recommend it enough.Written 12 June 2024
- ronaF2568TV0 contributionsSix stars if I couldSam was recommended to me by a friend. What a great tip! My adult daughter and I did a two day tour the Maasi Mara linked to a two day tour of Amboseli National Park. Being in the park and SEEING the park turn out to be two completely different things. Without a good guide, you will miss so, so much. And Sam and Zack were absolutely amazing. Seamless logistics, deeply knowledgeable, excited to share with an infectious positivity, and possessing a miraculous ability to find animals in invisible nooks and crannies. Getting close to the wildlife, positioning for perfect picture backdrops, and always with good cheer - really top notch! The trip was a series of constant marvels, and would not have been the same without this exceptionally talented team. My highest recommendation. We coupled our safaris with a Nairobi city tour with Jeen. Another absolute must-do!Written 12 June 2024
- Z8038elizabeth0 contributionsThe best day trip from NairobiThis day trip from Nairobi was amazing. Everything went as planned and Samuel and Zack were both so kind and professional and going the extra mile to be sure I had a great time and saw as many animals and view points as possible. They also knew so much about all the places and animals and were sure to give lots of interesting information. Just be sure to bring water and extra cash for lunch and tipping. If you do any day trip from Nairobi do this one with this company!Written 16 May 2024
- lenkas3720 contributionsFour girls on nine-days safariBush-thorns Adventures and Safaris was recommended to me by two different people (both very happy with their safaris) when I was searching for an affordable way to explore some of Kenya's national parks. From the very beginning, Samuel was extremely helpful and quick with his responses. He readily accommodated all our needs (low budget, vegetarian meals, early pick up at the airport etc.) and created an affordable yet packed plan for us. He and Joseph picked us at the airport early in the morning and Joseph took us to Maasai Mara and later to Lake Nakuru. Samuel joined us then for the rest of the trip (Hell's Gate, Lake Naivasha, Amboseli and Tsavo West). Both were very friendly, extremely knowledgeable and respectful not only to people but also to the animals, which, unfortunately cannot be said about all the tour operators. Joseph always left enough space for the animals which often somehow worked for our benefit since, on many instances, we observed them passing very close to our vehicle, on their own terms. Samuel and Joseph also enthusiastically satisfied our interest in birdwatching. Because we had only 9 days, we were able to explore only the well-known parks in southern Kenya. However, as we learnt during our trip, Samuel's specialty are the less frequented parks in northern Kenya, so if you get the chance, do not miss this opportunity. I cannot recommend Samuel and Joseph more. We were first reluctant to hire a guide since we have experience with self-drive safaris in Namibia and South Africa. Kenya is, however, a different story and although it is theoretically possible to drive on your own, I think that going with Samuel and Joseph was way more rewarding, less stressful and I dare to say even cheaper than a self-drive. So, thank you, Joseph, and thank you, Samuel, for an incredible adventure and best of luck to you!Written 20 September 2023
- L4540GQjoannac0 contributionsPerfect adventure in the central highlands, KenyaI cannot recommend Bush-thorn adventures and safaris enough if you are travelling to Kenya. Even before we arrived in Kenya, at the booking stage, the experience was excellent. I had asked if it was possible to adapt a 3-day tour in the Aberdares to include a location where we could do a bit more hiking/ wild swimming. Less than a day later I received a full personalised itinerary from Samuel which adapted the tour and highlighted points he thought would be of interest to us. We knew then we were in the best hands! On the tour itself, we had the best time and Samuel and Joseph were outstanding guides. We learned so much on our walks and on Safari in Ol Pejeta, amazingly we saw the whole big 5 in one morning in Ol Pejeta, the lunches were amazing with lots of delicious fresh fruit, they showed us places where we could swim which was the most incredible experience. This tour was our favourite part of our 2 weeks in Kenya and we will definitely book with them if we are in Kenya again!Written 3 September 2023
- sanderontheroad19840 contributionsAn Amazing and enjoyable AdventureWere we lucky to be able to catch Samuel and Benson of Bush-Thorns Adventures on a few free days, for a last minute trip with them in Kenya. Due to changes in our travel plans we ended up with a few unplanned days on the final stretch of our Kenya trip. We wanted to see Aberdare National Park, but we were not in Nairobi where most trips leave from; therefore it was hard to find something suitable. We contacted a few agencies, and noticed quickly that Bush-Thorns Adventures was by far the quickest, most communicative and most helpful to create an affordable plan that suited our departure location and wishes. We spent two days visiting many beautiful Waterfalls in Aberdare National Park, and hiking Mt. Satima (4001m., often called Lesatime) together. This was a wonderful, exciting and for us doable hike suggested by Samuel, which turned out to be a great substitute for our cancelled Mt. Kenya trek. We enjoyed it so much that we decided to extend our two day adventure with Samuel and Benson with a safari through Ol' Pejeta National Reserve; a testimony to their willingness and competency to adapt, make good suggestions and fully accommodate their clients even if they are 'spontaneous' travelers like us :) A part from their competency, general care for our well-being and openness to 'new' itineraries, we also simply enjoyed their company; the conversations about Kenya, Wild-Life, tourism and our shared interest in birds definitely made the final part of our stay in Kenya with them one of the highlights. Our frantic search for birds often lead to funny moments with Benson flipping through his Birds of East-Africa book, while Samuel was trying to find matching bird sounds online in order to identify one of the many beautiful and for us foreign species we encountered. If you are wondering wether to travel with Bush-Thorns Adventures, let this be a gentle but convincing nudge towards a yes.Written 26 July 2023
- CarlisleLori0 contributions2 Couples on SafariWe arranged a 7 day safari with Bush Thorns and we were not disappointed. Samuel was great at communicating with us from the start and had everything planned according to our needs. Our guides/drivers Samuel and Joseph went out of their way to tailor the trip to our specific wants and needs. We always felt well looked after. All accommodations were great, clean and safe. Joseph and Samuel made our trip a trip of a lifetime. We visited- Masai Mara, Kakamega Forest, Saiwa Swamp, Lake Nakuru and Hell's Gate. A great mixture of wildlife, birding and relaxing. I highly recommend Kenya for a safari/nature holiday and I recommend Bush Thorns Adventure and Safaris to look after all of your planning needs.Written 16 February 2023

- 185adeely0 contributionsBush and Beach safari in KenyaWe had an amazing experience with Bush thorns adventures and Safari’s. Samuel and Joseph were our guides and came with vast experience and photography skills. We traveled with children from Nairobi across the country to the beaches of Diani. We saw Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru, Amboseli (Kilimanjaro), Diani beach and Mombasa. We were facilitated with our own private custom land cruiser to suit the rough Kenyan terrains for the whole trip and thoroughly enjoyed the experience and highly recommend it to all.Written 25 August 2022
- MarkAllen940 contributionsWonderful Amboseli SafariOur trip to Amboseli with Sam and Matthias was absolutely fantastic. They are extremely knowledgeable about the landscape, culture and history of the area. We saw so many animals (including a leopard) and Sam even sent us his professional photos of our trip after!
