What to expect
  • Meet your guide in front of Drum Tower, then receive a safety briefing before starting your evening bicycle adventure in Beijing. From Drum Tower, your guide leads you through a classic hutong — older alleyways lined with traditional courtyard residences — while sharing stories about the changes of modern-day development in Beijing. Pedal over to picturesque Shichahai Lake where the city lights reflect on the water, then ride past a mix of old buildings flanked by new restaurants, bars and shops. A few minutes later, enter the lush oasis of Jingshan Park, where traditional Chinese temples and pavilions dot the green expanse. Your guide steers you to the Forbidden City; ride next to the moat and marvel at the sight of the imperial city glowing with light against the night sky. Continue to Tiananmen Square and enjoy the tranquility of this place at night while viewing Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum, Tiananmen Tower and the Great Hall of the People. Take a break for some authentic local treats at Donghuamen Night Market and Wangfujing Snack Street where street vendors cook up a variety of tasty dishes from all over China. Stroll through the bustling stalls and sample some savory or sweet bites (own expense). Your guide is happy to offer recommendations and insights into local favorites. Your final destination is Nanluoguxiang, an alleyway with traditional hutong courtyard houses, some that are 800 years old. The vibrant alleyway houses a collection of restaurants, bars, galleries and boutiques. Expect a moderate ride that proceeds at a relaxed pace, with plenty of stops for conversation and photo ops. After enjoying the sights, sounds and snacks of nighttime Beijing, your guide returns you to your starting point where your tour ends.

    Wangfujing Street
    Stop: 20 minutes
Wangfujing is a shopping street in Beijing, China, located in Dongcheng District. The majority of the main area is pedestrianised. Since the middle of the Ming Dynasty there have been commercial activities in the area. In the Qing Dynasty, ten aristocratic estates and princess residence were built here, soon after when a well full of sweet water was discovered, thereby giving the street its name "Wang Fu" (princely residence), "Jing" (well). Many exotic foods are served on Wangfujing snack street.

A different side to Beijing
May 2019 • Solo
The tour providers were very responsive and it was easy to arrange the tour at short notice. My guide, Dean, spoke very good English and was incredibly knowledgeable, including lots of fascinating anecdotes and details about Chinese culture and history throughout. The tour was timed to perfection: you catch beautiful golden hour cycling through Beijing's lovely parks and see the major sites lit up in the early evening. I highly recommend the tour for that reason; Beijing has a completely different character at night which should not be missed! The cycling itself was comfortable enough- Dean set me up in an appropriate bike and it felt safe cycling all around central Beijing.

Beijing’s best.
For the experienced cyclist the local Mobikes are less than your carbon dreams. Despite that this three hour tour was fantastic and Dean was a most knowledgeable and thoughtful guide getting us around safely and easily. He even booked us on his own Uber to get us back to our hotel when we finished. We actually found cycling around Beijing much safer than Melbourne. Getting around any city on a bike is a fantastic way to get your bearings and really get a taste for local life. Highly recommended.

Beijing by bike is a great experience
Apr 2019 • Family
Dean was our very engaging, flexible and capable guide for our bike tour for our final night in Beijing. Beijing by bike is exhilarating and it is a great way to see the city. Dean met us just before sunset between the Drum and Bell Towers. He introduced himself and got us adjusted on our bikes for the evening (for the tours, he used a combination of Ofo and BlueGogo the night we were on the tour).

While this tour hits many of the same sites you'll hit on any and every Beijing tour, seeing them via bike, in the evening and through the stories Dean tells is a combination that's hard to beat!

Delayed by TWO HOURS, had to cancel - did get a full refund
Sep 2018
I'm incredibly disappointed with the experience here despite all the positive reviews. I had only one day in Beijing so tried to pack the day with activities. I arrived at 4:55 pm to my 5:00 pm tour to be told that we were waiting for the other participants (which sounded normal). At 5:15 I asked how long we would wait to witch my tour guide said he'd check with his manager. The guide got off the phone to tell me very casually that we would wait until 6 pm. We I looked horrified, he innocently and genuinely asked me if I was "OK". I told him it wasn't fair to make me wait given I arrived on time. He urged me to consider waiting but said he'd call his manager and ask for a full refund. LONG story short, I waited until 6 pm for the tour guide to make another call and be asked to wait until 7 pm! Absolutely ridiculous. I have to be fair and say that 1) I did get a full refund 2) The guide paid for me to take a cab to my hotel. Nevertheless, I find this behavior absolutely unacceptable and urge the tour operator to change their policies.
