Upon hotel pickup in the morning, depart Beijing for the 1.5-hour drive by minivan to the Great Wall of China at Mutianyu. This section is a masterpiece of restoration, with 23 original-style watchtowers.
On arrival, you and your small group limited to 12 will be guided uphill on foot (it's about a 40-minute hike). Alternatively, you can ascend the Great Wall by chair lift or cable car before you ride a toboggan down.
Afterward, it's time for lunch in a local village. Sample dishes on the authentic Chinese menu may include kung pao chicken; mushrooms and pork; onion pancakes; moo shu pork; sweet and sour pork or chicken; and egg or tofu fried rice.
Then board your vehicle for the 1-hour drive to the Summer Palace. Before your visit, your guide will inform you about China's largest and best-preserved imperial garden and palace. Your full-day tour concludes with a drop-off at your hotel in Beijing.
