- fredhR5821OZ0 contributionsGreat Wall tour reviewThis has been one of the greatest experiences of my life! Leo was the best tour guide a person could ask for! I recommend him and his tour for anyone trying to get the best Great Wall experience!Written 17 June 2024
- 428yibinh0 contributionsThe BEST GUIDE in Beijing! 🌟Leo was superb! We had him for our great wall tour and he brought us to the famous Jin Shan Ling for an evening hike. It was raining and we almost gave up. But Leo encouraged us by telling us we will have the best view after the rain. He tried all ways to check on the weather forecast, which was totally out of his way, to ensure that we will have the best experience despite the adverse weather. It turned out to be the best view we have had, it was as if we were in a painting! This was probably the highlight of our entire trip. We took amazing family photos. Leo was encouraging, friendly and has good knowledge about the history of Great Wall. We had an absolutely amazing experience all thanks to Leo. I’d give him 10 stars if I could!Written 13 June 2024
- lappymad0 contributionsGreat tripLeo was a Fantastic guide taking some great photos of us. As photographers it was great to have a guide with good photographic knowledge. Going to this further away section of the wall was a great idea as extra time on the road offset by quick cable car queue and a lot less people. His English is excellent and thoroughly recommended.Written 7 April 2024
- 2014petert0 contributionsPrivate day tour with LeoLeo was our guide for a day in Beijing. We customized a private tour in March 2024, starting with Temple of Heaven, passing over Tiananmen and visiting the Forbidden City. Leo picked us up at the hotel, and we had a very enjoyable day with him. He answered all our questions on the attractions and life in China in general. We really enjoyed the day and his guidanceWritten 2 April 2024
- withthe757intheair0 contributionsNumber 1 tour guide in Beijing!Leo is definitely one of Beijings Top Tour-Guides. We did a three day tour with him and it was a phenomenal experience. He guided us to empty spots at the Great Wall - He was so friendly and funny. We did a lot of tours in many countries but Leos tour was one of the all-time best. Can only recommend.Written 29 March 2024
- cybertroner0 contributionsTrue professionals!I am a huge fan of Michael Bay's Transformers and enjoy visiting the places of filming. Last summer I finally found out that Jiankou is the actual section of the Great Wall, where a wonderful moment from Age of Extinction was filmed. Jiankou is wild, unrestored and very steep, while I am quite acrophobic, so I decided that I need a professional guide. I contacted Beijing Walking through their email (look on their site), and Leo promptly responded to my message. During a week or so we discussed all the details, and the final price turned out very affordable for a private tour for me alone. Arriving in Beijing I had to change my hotel, and in all the bustle I remembered to message Leo only one day in advance. On the day of our planned meeting Leo called me and was surprised that I changed the hotel, but he immediately asked me to give my phone to the hotel staff and they told him the exact address in Chinese. After half an hour my guide, Adele, and our driver picked me up. So everything went smoothly after all. The tour itself was just unspeakably amazing! Adele is such a nice guide, she not even told me a lot of interesting things about the Wall and took very nice photos of me, but also agreed to change our itinerary to visit the exact place of filming. We took another route and ascended to the Little Potala tower, it was not easy at all, this route is slippery and very steep. It seems I felt a mild hypoxia as I am an inexperienced climber, and Adele helped me a lot, lending her hand and carrying my camera. We even had to climb a cliff, using our hands at some moment. Not for lighthearted, that's for sure! BUT IT WAS SO REWARDING AFTER ALL! My dream came true! The views are crazy! I cannot really describe them. Looking down from ZengBeiLou tower you feel like a soaring eagle. And it appears I am not so acrophobic, when I am well prepared, haha! The lunch at the end was very delicious, and overall I couldn't imagine a better tour! Thanks everyone involved!Written 3 February 2024
- brusks20210 contributionsBest Tour Ever!Where do I begin? Maybe with a massive thank you to Leo! He picked us up from our hotel in Beijing, drove us to the Great Wall where it was tourist and people free! Meaning we got to walk the wall all on our own! Photos meant that there was nobody to edit out as we were on our own! Honestly worth booking in with Leo rather that doing it yourself in the tourist trap in Beijing! Well worth it. Further more we then went to eat traditional Chinese food near by. Was delicious and portion sizes was more than generous! I LOVED every minute! I couldn't thank Leo enough! Leo himself is an incredible person! Easy to get along with and has a heart of gold! Thank you LeoWritten 10 January 2024
- 608svetlanas0 contributionsA great day with the awesome guide!Leo is a fantastic photographer and a very professional guide. He is exactly the kind of a guide you dream of when planning your trips. He responded very quickly, answered all my questions in details, the day tour to the Forbidden City was organized perfectly. It was a pleasure to deal with him. Leo knows a lot about his country, he is very intelligent, well-read and funny. I expanded my knowledge of history and culture of China. It's also really nice that we stayed a bit longer in the end of the tour to catch the golden hour before sunset. He is obviously passionate about his work and I had a great time. It was the very beginning of my business trip, a weekend in Bejing before the workload and the time with Bejing Walking Tour was bright and memorable.Written 28 November 2023
- Jeanne Y0 contributionsBest Tour Guide in Beijing - 100% Recommended, professional, knowledgeable, kind - ABSOLUTELY amazing experience.Leo is ABSOLUTELY amazing. I had a private tour of Beijing to the Great Wall, temple of heaven, a small food tour and couple other parks and areas around Beijing. 110% HIGHLY recommended. He is knowledgeable, professional, kind, and is amazing at what he does, not to mention his English is completely fluent. Leo has been tour guiding for the last 15 years, so is experienced with knowing where/when/how to best take you while tailoring to your needs. I'm one of those very particular well travelled travellers - so am looking for an authentic/non touristy experience, and Leo blew my mind out of the water, I've been to Beijing 4 times and this was the absolute best trip I've had yet thanks to him.Written 25 June 2023
- ccna20 contributions5 Stars is not enoughFrom the very start to the end..there was never a hiccup or flaw….Leo answered my tour queries promptly. After I booked, everything was as described….and then some! First, let me say that I read all the reviews for the all private tours before selecting Beijing Walking Tours. I have never been to China and do not speak the language but enjoy learning about history, culture, and the local way of life. Not only did Leo exceed my expectations in these categories, he was flexible…if I wanted to try or see something, he adjusted the itinerary cheerfully in his laid back style. He picked local restaurants where the locals eat…and the meals were fantastic! Same with his photography! (Included without extra fees) He has years of experience which paved the way for the most delightful experience. So don’t be stingy…get a private tour with Beijing Walking Tours..you won’t have to deal with a bus load of people and you get more than your money’s worth…Can’t say enough about this!Written 14 June 2023
- jufcardoso0 contributionsAmazing experience at the Great WallWe booked a private transfer from Beijing to hike from Jiankou to Mutianyu with Leo. Leo helped us find the right trail up to Jiankou in the morning and waited for us at the other end. Contact was easy and we set everything up by email. We had a great time, Leo speaks excellent English and responded to our many questions about China and Beijing. It was a pleasure chatting away together to and from the great wall.Written 28 May 2023
- nramirezgon0 contributionsShort time at Beijing but worth it because of Leo !!Leo was absolutely incredible!! Our trip to Beijing was amazing because of him. He is so nice, kind, and caring. He’s fluent English so the communication is perfect. We only had 2 days to enjoy the city, and he adapted the tour to our timing. It was perfect! He pick us up and drop us off at the airport, and always pick us up the hotel everyday! Was great. He took us to the most beautiful parts of the turistic sites, not very crowded, so the experience was amazing. I would totally recomend this tour guide!!! He made me feel in love with this city. Do not doubt about this tour, it would change your life.Written 21 May 2023
- 369elliea0 contributions2 Day Family HikeWe loved our trip with Leo! We have 5 children, ranging from 5 years old to 15 years old. Our family wanted to experience an unrestored section of the wall away from the crowds. Leo helped us plan an unforgettable experience. Leo was patient and flexible and helpful. It was great to be picked up and dropped off at the locations of our choice. We really enjoyed the quiet little village we stayed in. He made sure we had enough water and snacks. He guided us around the parts of the wall where it is crumbling too much to hike safely. His English is great, so he was able to talk to us about the history of Beijing and the Great Wall as well as ensure there was no confusion about logistics. Leo took pictures for us the whole time so we could focus more on hiking and kids as we wanted. We would definitely do this again, and I recommend Leo without reservation.Written 30 June 2021
- Sambam4280 contributionsWine on the Great Wall at Twilight! This was an absolutely amazing trip and experience. Leo is such an amazing guide and his English is excellent. The photos he took for us were gorgeous and he put so much thought and effort into everything. I would recommend him to anyone and everyone I know. This was such a special experience and it was definitely worth the drive. If you are in Beijing and want to see a part of the wall that doesn't have as many tourists with a guide who really tries to make the whole day perfect for you look no further.Written 5 April 2021
- Tim S0 contributionsLeo helped us fall in love with China and its people - Amazing Tour and Delightful GuideWhenever I hear of someone headed to Beijing, I make sure they know about Leo and his amazing tour. We hired Leo for a personalized tour for our family of 8, with 2 parents and 6 children. We had 2 college age kids, two in high school and a 12 year old and a 8 year old. Leo connected with all of our kids and our youngest two felt especially connected to Leo and still talk about him years later. Daki picked us up from the airport in the afternoon and took us to our hotel and helped us get situated (the front desk didn't speak any English). That evening, Daki walked us around downtown, showing us how to navigate the city and taking us to an open air food market where they were selling all sorts of exotic cooked delicacies such as fried scorpion. She also took us to an outdoor square where they were doing ballroom dancing and my kids all joined in. The next day we were picked up and shuttled in a comfortable van to the Great Wall of China and Leo was our guide for the day. Leo is engaging, charming and had a great sense of humor and quickly won over our kids. If you like having a great storyteller, Leo is the guide for you. He was able to take the complex Chinese history and make it interesting for all of us. Leo was so kind to think of our kids and brought 2 kites that our kids could fly on the top of the Great Wall. What a memory! We rode down the toboggan down and then stopped at lunch where Leo helped us navigate the menu. We quickly became obsessed with the green beans and we ordered them at nearly every meal there after. They made our tongues slightly numb and the flavor was fantastic. We had planned on going to the Olympic Park, but Leo accommodated my 8 year old daughter's dream to see some Pandas in China and we made a detour to the Beijing Zoo. We only had time to race to the Panda exhibit, but my daughter was in heaven. We then walked through the Summer Palace and then had Beijing Duck for dinner! Yummy. The next day, Leo had arranged at our request a private Tai Chi lesson in a public park. It was a wonderful experience and the teacher was very patient with us. We enjoyed seeing the elderly Chinese working out on some public work-out equipment. We then went to a Baiyunguan taoism temple, did a Qianmen street walk, visited Tiananmen square and the The Forbidden City, and did a Hutong walking tour where we visited a man who did fighting crickets. We finished the day by visiting the Lama temple and the Hongqiao market. Leo was attentive, charming, flexible and an excellent photographer. If we every make it back to beautiful Beijing, we will certainly hire him again. We give him our highest recommendation!Written 12 April 2020

Leo is a unique guide: very patient, kind, available and lovely person, a great driver and a professional photographer… all in one! He made our walk on the Great Wall more unforgettable than we might have ever thought. It has been a magic, very romantic experience made just by us, the remainder of the Wall, the sun, the wind and the blooming apricots! We highly recommend this tour to anybody who loves exclusive experiences and very precious memories, who likes to immerge himself/herself into the spirit of an historical and at the same time natural place. The sunset that framed our experience was just as vivid and powerful you would imagine in your dreams. It was just us and the sun going down behind the mountains profile, almost nobody else around…

What an amazing tour!
First a short hike up to an unrestored section of the wall, then to the restored section for the sunset.
In between we had a great lunch at a restaurant using all fresh ingredients.
Our guide Leo is a passionate photographer and showed us the best places for pictures in each light! And he took some amazing shots of us, too!

Avoid the huge crowds at the usual tourist areas to see the Great Wall at these two remote areas. We spent hours at these locations and were able to see the wall and take photos with no crowds of people. Our guide Leo is wonderful. He speaks English very well and is very knowledgeable but does not overwhelm you with a constant stream of chatter. Be prepared to walk a lot, but you will be blown away by the majesty of these locations. Can’t thank Leo enough for this great tour!

Leo was a great communicator and fun tour guide. We felt safe and well-cared for with him. Our hike at Gubeikou was fantastic with hardly any other tourists and same story with Jinshanling at sunset - amazing experience that surpassed our expectations. Additionally, Leo is a fantastic photographer and took beautiful photos of us that he sent the following day. He even suggested a nice place for us to have dinner and dropped us off there which was very convenient.

Definitely exceeded my expectations - being a first time solo traveller who doesn't speak Chinese, was pleasantly surprised by Leo who spoke such good English and took care of everything from start to end of this day tour. Was a really fun day with a mini photoshoot at the best spots!! What made it even better was that it wasn't the usual crowded sections that tourists visit. Was so beautiful and thankful for this amazing experience. Highly highly recommend if you're able to climb/hike a fair bit. It's a tad pricey for solo travellers but 100% worth it

Everything was great, food, accommodation, logistics and of course the hikes. Leo is very flexible and will adapt the hikes as you wish. Can recommend the Jiankou hike if you are up for a challenging hike with amazing views. Leo also knows a lot about Chinese history, which was very interesting.

This was the highlight of our Beijing vacation and exceeded our expectations. Leo picked us up with a comfortable car at 11 AM at the hotel, so we had a relaxed morning. The drive is long (2-2.5 hour) but so worth it. We first went to the unrestored wall. It’s a bit of hike to go up, but very rewarding. There was no one else there, except a guard and at the end an other tourist climbed up. Next we went for a late lunch in a local restaurant, and had some great dishes and local beer. Then we went to a restored part of the wall - but as we came late, people were leaving when we arrived. The wall was amazing and only a few people left. We had asked for the optional bottle of wine and enjoyed the sunset with a glass of wine. This was a great memory. Leo is also a very nice guy, speaks English very well. I would highly recommend.

This was without doubt the most amazing experience. From the hotel pickup at 11.00am to the drop off at 10.00pm, every aspect of the tour was superb. Our guide Adele spoke perfect English, was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. I would not hesitate to recommend this tour to anyone, but be aware, some of the steps are very steep and uneven.

Hi! I am traveling with my husband, arriving on Dec 1st to Beijing Airport at 11:20 am. Is there any chance to be picked-up at the airport to do the tour and then dropped-off at the hotel at the end of the tour? If not, do you have any recommendation that allows for this itinerary?
Thank you very much!

Hello, I'm not the tour guide but a fellow traveler who did this tour. I'm sure you could technically pull this off, and Leo and his crew are very accommodating.
However, I'm not sure how enjoyable it would be for you if you are flying long distance. The hike is pretty physically exhausting - not so much the distance, but getting up to both walls in the first place and then Jin Shan Ling's up and downs all together can be very demanding. Expect it to be a very full day (we were picked up at 11 and got back to our hotel at 9:30 PM).
