          Perfect guided hike for couple
It was an excellent experience. Service was as described. This hike would not be possible without a guide and personal driver. We are very happy with peter, the driver and the company. Would recommend to all.

          Fantastic Tour w/Truly Excellent Guides
James & Peter are amazing tour guides with excellent English and the perfect level of bringing to life the beautiful and amazing history of the Forbidden City and Tienanmen Square. I recommend both of these highly qualified guides to help bring the jewel of Beijing to life! Pro tip: Ask Peter to do a back flip!

Jiankou Wall Technical Hike - James!!!
James is simply a masterful guide. His knowledge of the wild parts of the Great Wall is unmatched. He both takes the time to explain the environment, it's history with local flavor in addition to the technical aspects of hiking this often treacherous, rarely used part of the wall. In our 4 hour hike, we climbed 70 deg stairs, highly difficult and technical passages all with Jame's expertise guiding the way. We really can't thank him enough for a spectacular day, in and out of light rain that led to a truly memorable experience. The Jiankou part of the Wall is a must do for any serious technical hiker and James is only guy who we'd venture out there.

A great way to see the Wild Wall
This was a terrific hike that exposed us to a wild section of the Great Wall with stunning views and steep climbs. A great option for those looking to avoid the crowds and test their hiking prowess! James is an excellent guide who looks after his customers' every need, including transportation and food, and provides helpful context. Will definitely be doing another hike with him!

A unique hiking experience along the Great Wall
This was a wonderful and unique opportunity to see a part of the Great Wall that has remained basically untouched for centuries. The views are spectacular. When we approached one of the highest points - the so-called Flying Eagle - two real eagles appeared, flying over us! The hiking is not easy, as there are many steep and rough patches to overcome and the path can be quite slippery at times. But our guide Peter was amazing: so knowledgeable and helpful, he provided interesting information about history and nature, as well as invaluable tips on how to overcome the hiking challenges along the way. And he patiently waited for us when we slowed down - the trip took a bit longer than we anticipated, but it was definitely worthy! Highly recommended to those who are not afraid of taking some risk and making some effort to climb a truly authentic section of the Great Wall!

Family hike on Great Wall with amazing views
We had such an amazing hike with Peter, who was an excellent guide. He tailed everything to our family’s needs as we were travelling with our 3 kids ages 10 and 14. Peter shared so much interesting facts and history and was so friendly and engaging with the children. The hike itself was breathtaking with views of the ancient Great Wall winding through forests and mountains. I cannot recommend highly enough

Beautiful scenery and a nice hike at the Great Wall.
Thanks to our guide James for bringing us to a wonderful part of the Great Wall. The view from the hike was amazing! He told us interesting facts about the Great Wall and the area around, and made sure that we had a really nice day from the moment he picked us up, and until we were back in the city again.

Absolute best pick for a complete 1 day Datong Grottoes and Temple visit!
We are so glad we picked this tourguide! A greatest day in the Datong area! Perfect english speaking guide Anna, very relaxed, friendly, knowledgeable, close local connection with the area and proud of the historic heritage. She has excellent feel for the needs of her travel party and arranged a perfect car - very important since tje two sights are quite far apart. The trip however is cut in two parts with a stop at a fantastic restaurant! Could not have been better. If you read this, thanks again, Anna!

          Experience the wall in solitude
Not to miss trip to see unrestored parts of the Wall, amazing views, very good & friendly guide who clearly knows the way and can navigate this part safely. Provided water, walking sticks and a lovely lunch in a local restaurant. Car & driver are excellent as well. Don’t attempt it alone - need to navigate the woods & avoid closed off & dangerous sections of the wall as local gvt is blocking access.

Avoid the crowds and see the Great Wall in it's unreconstructed state
Being relatively far out from Beijing, the Gubeiikou section of the wall is ideal if you want to avoid crowds and see the wall in a relatively unreconstructed state. We were there on a beautiful Wednesday in May for three hours and saw exactly two other people. The section is also relatively flat, although we still climbed 74 floors according to my phone, Our guide, Peter, was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The tour was entirely private, just our group, so we could go at our own pace and take all the pictures we wanted. Lunch was a delicious addition. It comes after the hike, so bring some snacks and eat breakfast. There are cheaper options, but you will not regret spending the money.

Amazing Great Wall hiking day trip
The Great Wall hiking day trip was my personal vacation highlight! James, our tour guide, was super friendly, funny and took care of everything. He organised the pickup in Bejing, guided us on the Great Wall and introduced us to traditional chinese food after the hike. This day trip was way better than the typical way of visiting the Great Wall at Mutianyu which I have also done during my trip. You get to be active, see nicer parts of the Great Wall and experience a true adventure!

          Amazing experience!
I had an amazing experience taking this private hiking tour. I didn't want to go only to the typical tourist spots. So this tour is the perfect combination because you start in the most pristine zone of Jiankou and end up in Mutianyu, where you can take the cable car to go down. I was a bit anxious about the intensity of the hike, but I can confirm that it is completely doable. The first section of Jiankou was my favourite part; we really had the Wall for ourselves. My guide, Peter, was funny and experienced and since I was travelling by myself, he was very kind, offering to take some pictures. Worth every single penny.

Not to be missed while in Beijing!
Since it was a chinese holiday, the tour company decided to begin the day earlier to avoid the crowds and traffic jam on the way back, which was a great call. We’ve arrived at the Great Wall, when almost no one was there! I was able to walk around places where the wall was completely destroyed, partially reconstructed and fully reconstructed. The views where amaaaazing! I know this is an expensive tour, specially if you go solo, such as myself, but it’s totally worth it. This company is very professional, the driver was great, and the guide was a lovely person to be around :) He explained a lot of curiosities about the wall, as long as its history, and answered all my questions. Lunch was also great, pretty local, with veg options :) They provide enough water and snacks a long the way. The hike is pretty easy, not much physical effort required. I can’t express enough my gratitude for this tour! Not to be missed while in Beijing!

This year I brought the rest of my family to experience the awesome trip to the wall as my daughters and I did last year. We knew we would have an excellent experience again with James but wanted to see a different section of the wall. Jinshanlin was just beautiful and challenging at the same time. After the long trek, we were treated to a local Chinese meal. Again excellent food. My family was so impressed with James they didn’t want another guide to show us the Forbidden city and summer palace. We asked if James would bring us another day and he obliged.
If you are looking for an informative, helpful and kind guide, James will plan all other particulars to ensure your trip is rewarding and without a hitch. My wife, 3 teenagers and I all thank you and hope to see you again in the future.

        Thank you,
        The Websters

James and our driver drove us safely to and home again from this amazing experience of a lifetime!

We choose the Jinshanlin part of the wall due to the fact it had fewer visitors and the travel magazines promised some perfect photos spots, they were right!

Our guide, James was pleasant and made sure we kept our water and sugar level up with the candy bars and water he brought along for us. He knew all the good photo spots and took his time, never rushed us.

We had a great day with James on the wall. We wanted to visit a section that wasn't littered with tourists and this didn't disappoint. The views were spectacular, the walk was fun and James was a great guide.

The food on the way home was delicious too!

Amazing day, had a great guide, James who was super informative. The ride to and from the wall was very comfortable and I’m a big guy so it was nice. The hike was 4 hours and challenging. The views were gorgeous. I took a lot of pictures and we went at a good pace. It was time well spent, we went further out to avoid the crowds and there were no unnecessary stops for shopping. A big plus

        I recommend highly!

On a recent business trip to China, my partner and I stayed a weekend in Beijing so we could see the Great Wall. There are three “sections” easily accessible in a day; we were told most tourists will go to Mutianyu or Badaling, but that Jinshanling is the most beautiful; a combination of restored and wild sections, and few other tourists.

A friend had recently done a two-day Great Wall tour with Trek Club, including Jinshanling; we opted for a day trip. They were happy to accommodate us at short notice.

Our guide, James, is co-owner of Trek Club, and brought many years of experience. He and a driver met us at our hotel around 7.30am in a modern Volkswagen Passat. The early start meant a quick trip from central Beijing, and there were comfortable highways all the way; the trip took just over 2 hours. James speaks good English and had many entertaining stories from tours he had taken throughout China, including our friend!

We transferred to another car to get to the “base camp”. It felt like a ski field in the summer; empty, with capacity for many people, but with almost no-one else there. There are hotels and apartments being built nearby and the modernisation of China suggests this section will become very busy in the next 10 years. There is a chair lift but you won’t use it on this tour. Use the bathroom here as this will be the last running water for a while.

A quick hike took us to the top of the wall, and the views. We couldn’t have asked for better weather: ~10 degrees C in November with clear sun; we started in our coats and ended in just T-shirts.

We spent almost 6 hours hiking along the wall, much of that time spent taking photos of the amazing vistas. Over ~15km we encountered very few people save for a large walking group towards the end and a handful of other tourists. James is seasoned at pointing out the best places to pose for photos and took many great snaps for us. On top of that, there’s Wi-Fi and great 4G service, so you can video-call your friends and family, and have them guess where you are!

Walking poles were provided and came in very useful. There was nothing too strenuous about the hike, except some parts which were very smooth and at a very steep incline. My street shoes were perfect everywhere, except these two areas.

After we came down, we were taken two minutes down the road to a local restaurant for dinner where we were served a buffet meal of the freshest local food you could imagine. It was more delicious than you would find in any city restaurant and we felt incredibly privileged.

We rested on the trip back to Beijing and were back at our hotel around 7.30pm. Payment was made in CNY cash at the end.

All in all this was an amazing day that we won’t forget any time soon. We feel so lucky to have found James - he is a treasure!

Take: snacks and food; it’s a long time between meals. Your guide will have drinking water. BYO TP and hand sanitizer; there are some chemical toilets along the wall but no running water. Bring some cash if you want to buy trinkets from the locals.

Go soon: there are hotels and apartments being completed nearby, so this adventure, which we’ll remember for life, won’t stay a secret for long.

Hiking across the wall was a bucket list item that was well worth the effort.

My guide, James was great. Gave all of the info needed to make it even more interesting and was very friendly. He even provided snickers to keep the energy up. Master stroke that was!

Stoked I got such a good experience.

        Do it!
