Great Wall of China by Georgette
The Great Wall of China was built over several centuries, beginning in 445 B.C., and by 220 B.C. it was 16,000 kilometers long. In terms of art, the wall is not decorated with works of art per se, but its construction is impressive architecture, highlighting the skill and advanced engineering of the time. The importance of the Great Wall lies in its defensive function, intended to protect the Chinese empire from external invasions and attacks, especially from the nomadic tribes of the north. In addition to its military function, it also served as a means of border control and to regulate trade and immigration. The wall was mainly inhabited by soldiers and military guards who kept guard.

    Great Wall hike
It was a whole day tour starting at 10.00 am. We had a great tour guide Mike! Funny, knowledgeable and happy to help. We ate a great buffet lunch before the hike. The trip to both east route and west route takes about 5h. It is great off season, since there are very few tourists. It takes some stamina to climb all the way I recommend the tour warmly.

Unforgettable experience Great Wall in Winter
What a wonderful experience! The snow overnight makes the Great Wall even more magnificent. Clare is warm, funny and extremely helpful. Her storytelling of the history is not only informative but also sparks laughters. The complimentary buffet lunch has a great variety and yummy. Overall trip 10 out of 10 can’t recommend it more.

Mubus are well-organised. Leo is a brilliant guide. Tuesday in Winter is perfect
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Mutianyu Great Wall! The whole trip with Mubus was brilliant, with everything well organised and the instructions crystal clear. Leo from Mubus was a fantastic guide. He knows heaps about the Wall's history and has a knack for storytelling that's both engaging and humorous. Plus, he's full of enthusiasm and very helpful, even helping me find transportation to my hotel. I went for the tour on a cold, sunny day in early February, right before the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year). It's chilly, but honestly, a sunny winter day is nice for a visit. There are fewer people about, and all that walking and climbing actually gets you warmed up. I'd also suggest visiting on a Tuesday. Weekends are not ideal because of the crowds, and Mondays are just as packed (turns out a lot of Beijing's tourist spots are shut on Mondays, pushing everyone to the Great Wall). So, a Tuesday in winter? Peaceful. You've got the space to yourself, making it easier to connect with the place. Perhaps Wednesdays and Thursdays are also good, but I am not sure. Choosing a quieter day means you can check out both the East and West routes of Mutianyu without much difficulty. When it's busier (e.g., warmer periods, weekends, etc.), the queues for the Cable Car and Toboggan are long, and you'd be hard-pressed to do both routes in the 4-5 hours you've got for sightseeing. Definitely go for the Cable Car and Toboggan – they're worth it, unless it's super packed or you've been to the Great Wall before and fancy more of a hike this time. Even with the Cable Car, exploring the Wall is still a good workout. These options just give you more time to explore instead of trudging through less interesting bits. And yes, your Mubus ticket gets you onto the Wall (lunch, cable car, Toboggan etc. are optionals). Plus, you can pay with AliPay or cash, and there's an cash machine on-site if you need it.

    Great experience
Had a great time visiting the wall with Mubus tours. The company was kind enough to swap the day that we booked to an earlier day for us. Leo was a great host and gave us lots of interesting info about the wall. The food was nice and had plenty of veggie options. The wall it's self is stunning and definitely worth a visit when you're in Beijing. I would recommend booking with Mubus.

Must book in advance, foreign visitors will need to bring your passport and a guide option is recommended. The city is vast and some areas might be difficult for those with reduced mobility that said there are always plenty of people around to help. Visitor numbers in winter are usually half those in the summer but be prepared Beijing can be cold in winter and there are few areas to get warm. The exhibition of pottery and jewellery is worth the walk and can be busy. One of two places which were on my bucket list now crossed off during my visit to Beijing

This is my favorite place in Beijing. The entire complex is enormous and is quite fascinating. The down side is that there are HERDS of people here. However, it's not really "shoulder to shoulder" until you get to the actual attractions (ie. taking photos of the Emperor's throne). Hard to take any photos without other people in there. Aside from that, prepare to do A LOT of walking and one can literally spend a full day here exploring.

Book this through Mubus website directly. Was told to meet at 8.40am at NUO Beijing hotel entrance, but the guide herself and the rest of the group only sauntered in from 10 minutes later, and the tour finally started moving off to destination at 9.15am.

Guide was seemingly inexperienced:
-Lots of confusion regarding bookings and ticket purchase, resulting in several delays at the start and along the way.
-As much as she tried, she was soft spoken hence recommended the group to get headsets at additional 20RMB each (some seemed surprised as they claimed their packages included the headset)
-instead of stopping at various points to share details, she tends to speak while walking without facing the group. Those without headsets probably cant hear her
-she speaks basic english. Couldn’t quite understand her at times.

In summary, tour is reasonably priced but a large part of tour is just walking to key spots, without much explanation. If one can afford the time, probably better to explore on your own.

The tour was incredible. Gustavo, the tour guide is so friendly and funny. His historical insight of the forbidden city is really deep. It was a great opportunity to learn more about the chinese culture. As I was traveling alone, it was a good chance to meet people backpacking in China. Moreover, Gustavo invited us to have a typical chinese lunch just after the tour. Highly recommend the tour.

Mike made the tour for us. He took more time than was necessary to make sure we were satisfied. Beginning with his communication before the tour and during, we felt comfortable that he knew what he was doing. We ended up seeing so much more of the city then expected all because of him. After the Forbidden City, he got us to Summer Palace, helped us on the subway, found bicycles to ride, and even a local restaurant to enjoy Peking Duck. He bridged the communication gap for us and was very concerned about us having a great time in his city. Bravo! I would highly recommend Mike.

Wonderful tour of the Forbidden City done in about four hours. Not super in depth on history, but enough to give a very solid overview and see a great amount in four hours.
