About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 734jmm0 contributionsAbsolutely a great tour in a side car !We have taken many side car tours over the years, but this one was so interesting. John was willing to customize something for us that allowed us to visit old longtangs in Beijing. Great tour. Great guide. Fun vehicle.Written 19 November 2024
- Resort289710780310 contributionsJust do this tour and you will not regretFirst time on a sidecar and John made the experience so warm and casual. The day I had booked in was raining and John suggested if I may be interested to do it another day. Did this tour on my 3rd day of being in Beijing and still the experience was breathtaking. You must definitely do this tour when in Beijing. Took me on the small alleys Hutong. Completely understood I needed coffee and took me to a really nice place. 4 hours flew by too fast!Written 17 November 2024
- 435bradleyh0 contributionsStreet view sidecar experienceWhat a interesting way to see and feel the bustling beautiful chaos that is Beijing. John is not only and excellent driver but also knows some great spots to visit including some local cuisine for a snack or lunch. If your looking for that something different and want an unique experience, then I highly recommend taking the 4 hour city tour. Not only will you enjoy the time with John, you will get some great photos as well.Written 16 November 2024
- 613yeek0 contributionsBest decision I made.I took this tour the very morning I arrived in Beijing. John very patiently waited for me to check into hotel and settle down. This tour was the best decision I made and I enjoyed it so much because of the individualised attention and explanation of the places. It was an excellent introduction to Beijing‘s road and food since this was really my first foray into the country and city. John was really patient and I appreciated that he enjoys doing this so he brought a lot of himself into the tour. If I had known that he did trips to great wall too I would have engaged him instead of joining the big tours.Written 7 November 2024
- P6933ELbrians0 contributionsThe only way to go!! 🏍️We connected with John through a work contact while in Beijing and the timing worked out perfectly as we'd planned to go to the Great Wall and this made that even more of an adventure. Getting out of downtown is not the best part but it does give you a whole different perspective on the city. Once you get to more of the rural north side that's when it all comes together. Bring able to see all around and be immersed in the environment was breath taking. You'd miss so much if you were trapped in a car or bus. John took care of everything from tixkets to our meal and went above and beyond which has a ton of value if you've struggled with the language barrier you know. I'm a big motorcycle guy so this was a treat but even the other two enjoyed it as well as a once in a lifetime experience to really make for a memorable full day. Would 100% recommend.Written 30 October 2024
- essjayy440 contributionsA must-do when visiting BeijingWe loved our sidecar tour with John. We saw more of Beijing than we did with any of our other tours. While we drove by some more touristy sights and areas, we mainly stuck to lesser-known streets which was a unique aspect to this tour. John also introduced us to some delicious local foods. John drove safely throughout our tour. The back of the motorcycle and the side car both had cushioned seats that absorbed the shock of the road well. We found both options to be quite comfortable. We definitely recommend booking with Beijing Sidecar Tours for anyone looking to see more than just the crowded, tourist sights.Written 29 October 2024
- callumj9560 contributionsBook it now!If you want to see Beijing past and present in such a unique way, with the best tour guide around, then this is a must do! John the tour guide is so friendly and knowledgable, and he will take you to many fascinating areas around Beijing while offering his local insight. The only negative of the day was saying goodbye. He even took us to a restaurant to eat some amazing food! Couldnt’t recommend enoughWritten 2 October 2024
- feifanh20240 contributionsBe a Beijing local person in one day!Had a fantastic tour with John. He was very knowledgeable and an excellent driver. It’s really fun ! I got good care of and it’s amazing to see the landmark icons on the sidecar. Would highly recommendWritten 10 May 2024
- Krystal C0 contributionsEasy and memorable! An easy and special way to see Beijing and it's charms! John was able to provide the history of sites visited, made sure that the ride was comfortable always, and great to chat with. Local lunch snacks were yummy and everything from pre-departure was well organized. Highly recommendedWritten 16 March 2024
- adamsJ576DC0 contributionsTour the city by motorbike !John is a great tour guide and safe motorcycle rider and can converse in English easily. The tour was well planned out and I got a thorough explanation of the city which made getting around on my own that much easier. We went to interesting and beautiful sites that I would never have visited on my own. Our lunch was all the more special where we had a picnic on the bike eating special Beijing meat dumplings that John got from his favorite lunch spot in the Muslim district on Ox st ( think that’s correct ) , never had anything like them, they were delicious. John helped me out with tickets to visit the temple of heaven right after the tour. He went out of his way to make my visit to the city special and really was engaged in my interest. I suggest doing this tour as your first thing to do when you visit. Super fun even if you are not big bike fan.Written 21 January 2024
- W1334HJsharonp0 contributionsSidecar is the most fun way to see Beijing! This is the best and most fun way of seeing Beijing! It was greatI was well looked after including lunch with coffee served by the lake. I got to see icons such as the Bell tower and the old city wall of Beijing - this is way easier than trying to get around by yourself. John was such a nice guy! I had an incredible experience on the "Ancient & Modern" Beijing sidecar tour. Starting early in the morning, we explored the charming old hutongs of Beijing. Our thoughtful guide, John, provided face covers to keep us warm in the chilly weather, which was a great touch.
As a local Beijinger, John had unparalleled knowledge of the area and took us to the most authentic and less touristy parts of the hutongs. It felt like a truly immersive Chinese experience, as he shared fascinating insights about the rich culture and heritage of the sites we visited.
The tour included stops at some breathtaking photo spots, where we captured stunning views of Beijing's iconic landmarks. John's accommodating nature made the experience even better, as he customized parts of the tour based on what we wanted to see.
This tour is fantastic value for money, combining an unforgettable cultural experience with personalized service. I can't thank John enough for his expertise and hospitality. Highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to explore the real Beijing!
Thanks again, John!

Came to my favorite city in China for a brief meeting. What to do when you've half a day to burn? Booked a quick tour and hopped on a sidecar! What an absolute blast! From the moment we revved off, I knew I was in for a unique adventure.
Zipping through the city's bustling CBD, offering breathtaking views of towering skyscrapers. But the real magic happened when we delved into Beijing's rich history. With John's expert guidance, we explored old hutongs and iconic landmarks, and my favorite was the ancient Ming Dynasty city wall. John's insights and anecdotes added an extra layer of depth to the experience, making it truly unforgettable.
We had a pit stop at Lian Coffee & T on top of the wall, sipping on Dirty Coffee and listening to John's life stories was the perfect way to end the day.
If you're looking for a unique and bespoke tour to explore Beijing, look no further. Highly recommended!

Sidecar tour is such a unique way to explore Beijing! Riding through narrow hutongs and along the wide avenues at financial district, we had the perfect vantage point to soak in the sights and sounds of the city.
Our driver guide John is a knowledgeable and friendly local, provided fascinating insights into the city's history and culture. The sidecar itself was comfortable and well-maintained, ensuring a smooth and safe journey. One of the tour’s highlights was a stop at great wall, where we sampled delicious Beijing snacks and drinks. This added a personal touch, making the experience more than just a typical sightseeing tour.
Overall, highly recommended!

This was a great way to see Beijing from a different perspective. John arrived early to my hotel. Straightaway, he gave me a bottle of water. We were able to see parts of the city that you cannot access by car and get through the traffic quickly. John was knowledgeable and able to give a running commentary over the helmet intercom. We even stopped for him tobbe able to give me cake and a cold beer in front of the Beijing football stadium. The bike was superb and obviously kept in great condition. I would strongly recommend this tour.

I highly recommend Beijing sidecar tour on your first day visiting Beijing. John was waiting for us at it hotel and we had a fantastic 2 hours with him exploring the city. This is a great way to get your bearings straight and to understand the city layout. It gave us an appreciation on how big Beijing actually is.
You can tailor the tour to the sites you would like to see. We told John to take us wherever he would like. John started by taking us through the financial district, see all the new buildings and of course the CCTV headquarters building. It was neat to see “new Beijing” then we made our way to the ancient city. Driving through the Hutongs was a lot of fun! We spend time at the Bell and Drum towers, which was amazing to see. John then took us to a beautiful park and lake where we had drinks and a Beijing treat! We ended our tour going to the old city wall. John was a safe driver and the ride was comfortable. It was the best time and I highly recommend the tour!! I hope to be back!

We had a brilliant tour with John and his colleague at Beijing Sidecar Tours. It's a great way to link several key sights - from modern to old Beijing - in the centre of the city and cover ground quickly from a unique perspective. We found it particularly good for our children, who loved whizzing through the narrow alleyways of the hutongs. John was an absolute delight to deal with from start to finish. He was quick to respond to my rather last minute request, but put on a tour for us which felt like he’d been planning it for months, with lots of thoughtful details - he even provided a cake for my husband’s birthday! One of the best things we’ve done in Beijing - highly recommend and I can’t wait to do it again! Thanks John 😊

Thanks for such an amazing trip! John is very punctual and polite person. He’s also a safe driver and great tour guide.
Everything was very well prepared : scarf for the ride, helmets with Bluetooth for the audio tour and communication, water, local sweets with tea/coffee for the picnic. Ural is in a very good condition, looks like its brand new!
Weather in Beijing was so perfect, so riding a motorbike (for the first time in my life) was such a pleasure! You feel freedom, sun and wind while sightseeing of ancient and modern Beijing.
Highly recommend! For the next trip in Beijing we’re definitely booking 4-hours Moto tour.
