About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- adelstoc0 contributionsBrilliant intro to Hong Kong with fun and engaging guideIvan was our guide this morning. He was born in Kowloon and knows the city, culture and history inside out. He met us at our hotel, explained the MTR to us and off we went to Central. Ivan engaged both my husband, three kids (aged 11, 8 and 5) and me with fascinating history about HK and other cultural topics such as feng shui and religious traditions. He was friendly, personable and completely present. We visited an outdoor market where the kids loved seeing meat and fish being sliced and diced fresh. We went to an old temple where the kids got to make a prayer with incense, we tried some delicious French toast and a hybrid iced coffee tea! We learnt quite a bit about the history of HK as a colony. Three hours was perfect for little legs, however if it’s older kids or adults in your party I’d recommend booking Ivan for longer. Even after three hours the tour left us all feeling more confident to navigate HK alone. Ivan left us with restaurant tips for the kids and other itinerary recommendations. A truly worthwhile private tour that I highly recommend.Written 10 January 2020

- sw197le0 contributionsSoon again, pleaseBooking the tour and getting to the meeting place was super easy. They even would have picked me up from my hotel but as I know Hong Kong a bit I opted for a meeting place in the New Territories. Maggie has been a wonderful tour guide with a wealth of knowledge. I really enjoyed learning so much about Hong Kong, past and present, and seeing placing which as a normal tourist you would seldom. Maggie was very flexible and always made sure that my personal interest were met.Written 25 July 2019
- 156gerardm0 contributionsGreat tour with IvanEarly June we spent 8 days in Hong Kong. We arrived Friday night and I had booked a Big Foot Walking tour of Kowloon for the next day, so we could get an idea of how to get around HK from the start of our holiday. We met Ivan at our hotel at 12 noon and he spent the next 4 hours showing us a part of the world that he knows so well. He showed us how to get an Octopus card, then how to navigate the MTR rail system. That was so handy for the rest of our trip as we used it daily. Ivan was very patient and so informative about the area and history of Kowloon. We walked, caught trains and had a lovely local lunch. Wasn’t cheap, but money well spent and it made the rest of of stay so easy. Happy to recommend Ivan as not only was he very professional but he was a very nice young man and no questions were too stupid and nothing was too much trouble. Cheers.Written 22 July 2019
- Vicki860010 contributionsday tour with IvanMy daughter and I had an 18 hour layover in Hong Kong en route to South Africa. I decided to hire a tour guide...and boy am I glad I did. Ivan gave us a great 4 hour tour of the city. It was perfect. I loved how he took us to a small, local restaurant...and guided us on what and how much to order. He catered his tour to what we wanted to do. He was very flexible. My daughter loved the outdoor escalator. I enjoyed the temple. He was great with translating Hong Kong prices into US dollars so we could better understand local real prices. He gave a very interesting tour. What could have been a very intimidating experience in a foreign city, turned out to be a very enjoyable and laid back time. I highly recommend Ivan! Thanks so much for a wonderful tour of beautiful Hong Kong!Written 22 July 2019

- danwalmsley0 contributionsA Hong Kong AdventureHad a fantastic time exploring Hong Kong Island with Ivan on a 4 hour walking tour. I learned about the history of the city while walking through the busy streets with a stop at a serene Taoist temple along the way. I definitely discovered a whole new side to Hong Kong (Ivan also showed us some fantastic dining options, make sure you ask about them!). I would highly recommend this tour!Written 18 June 2019
- 986barbarae0 contributionsIvan is #1 GuideOur recent trip to Hong Kong was made very special by the 4 hours we spent exploring Kowloon with Ivan. I am quite sure we would never have discovered all of these fascinating parts of Kowloon without Ivan and certainly not in just 4 hours. We used public transit and saw traditional Hong Kong and modern day Hong Kong. Ivan answered all of our questions and we would definitely hire him for additional tours of this magical place.Written 16 June 2019

- GregRNYC0 contributionsA great way to learn about Hong Kong history and food!My wife and I had a great time touring Hong Kong with Celia. She was energetic and very knowledgeable. We learned a lot about Hong Kong history, geography, local culture, local traditions and of course food. Celia took us to all the local spots and helped us order the best things on the menu. We even had snake soup! The tour was a lot of fun and Celia adjust it to fit your preferences. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting HK!Written 6 May 2019

- 535michellev0 contributionsWould do it againJust this one tour got us up to speed with knowing Hong Kong. Our guide was fantastic, listened to what we liked and tailored the walk. She was spot on with what she showed us, and her knowledge was fantastic. She also introduced us to a whole lot of things to explore on our own in ensuing days. The additional help in showing us local places close to us was great as well.Written 2 April 2019
- eileenr5280 contributionsIvan was a wonderful guide and made our Hong Kong visit very memorableIvan took us in a 4 hour walking tour which included the new and the old parts of Hong Kong. He was very knowledgeable but without overloading us with too much information. Also, he was essential in in introducing us to travelling on the MTR which proved a godsend for our other couple of days. He gave us good ideas of places to go that we hasn’t covered on our tour. If you only have a few days in Hong Kong do book this tour it will make the rest of your visit so much better. Many thanks, Ivan for such an informative and interesting day.Written 1 April 2019
- Monica S0 contributionsLoved Hong Kong!We had a 7 hour layover in Hong Kong and thought we'd use that time to explore the city! Our guide, Maggie, was so friendly and knowledgeable, we truly enjoyed our time with her! She took us all over the city on foot, from Michellin stared Dim Sum in the train station, to the beautiful waterfront, to the midlevels, to different vibrant street markets, and gorgeous temples...we really got a great feel for the city in just 4 hours. The day was a highlight of our whole trip and so glad we had the opportunity to do it!Written 7 March 2019

We only had a couple of days in Hong Kong and wanted an introduction to the city and public transportation. We learned some city facts along the way. A good tour for an overview of Hong Kong Island. Ivan was our tour guide and customized the tour to show us some highlights plus the best ways to get around on our own to see more. He took us to some out of the way places to eat we would not have found on our own.

Thank you, JROSEJD. We love family tours! Hong Kong has so much to offer to everyone, and we are glad to hear that your family enjoyed both the Real Hong Kong Tour and Kowloon Private Tour. Celia's favourite moments of the tour was noticing how much fun the children had when they hopped onto the local double-decker bus as well as savouring the delicious (and must-try) fried buns! Celia had also specially prepared some extra information on children-friendly sights in Hong Kong - we hope that you had find it useful for the rest of your Hong Kong trip!

I enjoyed a fast paced (the pace was my choice) walking tour of Central HK with Maggie. Maggie was extremely welcoming, knowledgeable, warm, and professional. Together we touched on all the fun highlights. And to top it off I ate some great local foods. Maggie gave me a solid orientation to the city, setting me up perfectly for some solo exploration for my remaining time in HK. I highly recommend this experience for en informative and enjoyable time.

I saw this company in a show called 'Travel Man, 48Hrs In....' and it gave me an idea.
I grew up in Hong Kong in the '70s, worked there in the 80's - and have been a regular visitor every couple of years. So - whilst i know where to get my feet done, and have clothes, shoes and Jewellery made - having a real local take me around, I thought would open doors, I would never have the confidence to open.
Celia did not disappoint.
We walked the back streets of central, visited the old prison and barracks, and were taken to the best restaurants and average tourist would never visit....from Michelin starred roast goose - to a proper old-school Dimsum restaurant - to the snake-man in Wanchai - it was a refreshing change to have some of the old secrets explained to an old expat.
As I said - I return every couple of years - and Celia's tour was easily the best part of the visit. The more Hong Kong changes, the more some parts stay the same.
A massive thank you to Celia and Big Foot who changed the way I llok at my old home.

Thank you, NickDaviesYork, for your flattering comments. We are so glad that we finally got to show you around, especially after a missed opportunity last year as we were fully booked back then! Celia had a lovely time listening to your growing-up stories in Hong Kong too. In her own words, the tour time flew by very quickly and it was a very happy journey with 2 funny gentlemen. :) We also love this statement of yours, 'the more Hong Kong changes, the more some parts stay the same'. When you next visit Hong Kong, I'm sure we have lots to update you about how much this vibrant city has developed. Till then, take care!

We had a lay-over in Hong Kong for 48 hours. It was our first time in this interesting city and we wanted to maximize our experience. After researching various options, we booked Big Foot Tours for a private tour. Ski was our first contact and was incredibly helpful in organizing the day and time of the tour and offering extensive tips on where to meet and what to see even before we arrived. Maggie was our guide. As is stated elsewhere on this site, she is a gem! She arrived at our hotel well before the appointed meeting time and was beyond prepared- even bringing along maps and visual aids. She listened to our requests and then lead the way to see a slice of "real" Hong Kong. Within 4 hours we covered well-known landmarks and little known gems. She also stopped along the way to point out interesting features of buildings, local foods, items in markets, etc. She provided an in-depth understanding of traditions and history with a variety of personal information about modern-day life. Best of all, she taught us first-hand how to get oriented around the city and to use the subway and trolleys to the point that the next day we were comfortably off exploring on our own. She left us with more tips on other places to see than we could possibly cover. We felt we made a friend in Ski and Maggie and their warmth, patience, and guidance influenced our great enjoyment of our first stay in Hong Kong! My only suggestion: wear comfortable shoes as Maggie will cover the territory!

We hope you had taken plenty of beautiful pictures and manage to complete your shopping in time. Please keep in touch and we hope both of you are now well-settled back at home. Happy Thanksgiving!

Big Foot Tour is a great way to get oriented to Hong Kong. I have been on the tour twice with different family members and learned new things each time. Booking is easy and Ski and her team are very accommodating. Our guide on our most recent tour was Maggie who grew up in Hong Kong so had a lot of great insights and advice about restaurants and additional sites to visit.

An amazing tour. Highly recommended. Celia pitched the tour perfectly - a combination of history, culture, food, insta gram photo opportunities, and a taste of local Hong Kong. By far the best part of our 5 days spent in Hong Kong. You really seemed to take into account everything we told you before the tour making it truly personalised. Thank you so much.

We have a 12 hour flight layover. Our flight arrives at 0600 and departs at 6:30 p.m. Can the guides pick us up at the airport and return us to the airport? Is there an extra fee for this? What time would this start?

Hi, I am accompanying my husband on his business trip to Hong Kong, and I will be exploring Hong Kong alone those 3 days. I have not been to Hong Kong in 30 years(!), so would like to get some ideas about ‘must see’ sights, as well as the best places to shop and browse. I thought a personalised tour might be a good way to start. Thanks, Sally
