Overview
This tour is about understanding the housing crisis in Hong Kong in relation to its coffin house and cage house. If you are looking for a tour that brings you to the major attractions, this tour is not for you. If you are seeking knowledge of a city, then this is the perfect tour for you.

When you visit Hong Kong, you must think it is a city of prosperity. Underneath this prosperity is a capitalistic system that has made basic living ridiculously unaffordable. This tour is about revealing the unjust system and shock you with the reality.
Highlights
  • See a different side of Hong Kong from the shiny skyscrapers and affluence
  • Visit hidden places in Kowloon off the tourist trail
  • See the Birds Market, the Flower Market, and more
  • Get insights on the housing crisis, plus social and political challenges
What to Expect
After meeting your guide, you'll head to Mong Kok and Prince Edward. Visit The Goldfish Market, The Flower Market, and The Birds Market, learning about the background of these places, and the challenges they face.

The next part of the tour gives insight into the housing crisis of Hong Kong. You’ll see Boundary Street Sport Centre, Portland Street, and Tenement House—learning about the struggles and challenges encountered by locals.

Stop off at Lui Seng Chun for Chinese herbal tea before heading to Tung Chau Street to learn about the reality of the poverty line in Hong Kong. After this, you’ll visit Pei Ho Street, where you’ll find out about subdivided housing, cage housing, and how many homeless people live.

The tour ends at Sham Shui Po market—you can either stay here, or your guide will point out the nearest MTR station.

We were guided by Armie, a local with plenty of knowledge on the current political, economic and social aspects of Hong Kong. It's easy to look at HK as a thriving city, but at what cost? We saw the flower market, bird market and fish...More

Fall-in love at the first time joint the tour in April 2019. It was very valuable tour to know the other side of Hong Kong, different from shopping and skyscrapers, combined with its short histories and local social lives. So I booked this free tour...More
