About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Global055970439380 contributionsNanjing History LessonMy father, me, and my nephew had great time taking this one day city tour with Fred as our tour guide. He shared us a very complete and comprehensive history of China. From imperial era until current modern day. Too bad Nanjing masacre hall is closed for renovation.Written 27 November 2024
- tcB5801OA0 contributionsGreat service and amazing tour guideThe tour coordinator Alana reached out before the day to arrange for all necessities, introducing the tour guide Mr.John, understanding requirements, reminding me to bring along the passport. On the tour day, John was ready at the hotel lobby by the appointment time. After a short discussion about the itinerary, we were on the road. During the whole day, John walked me the history of the city from the ancient time to the Republic era with a vast knowledge. At the mountain, he was very attentive during the hiking up and down so I can easily navigate in my own space. A Nanjing native himself, John knows the city and shares with me interesting tips about things to do and places to eat with a local's perspective. Before ending the day, sweet of him writing down my interested places in both English and Chinese characters in case I need help on the road later on. Strongly recommended for first time foreigners visiting Nanjing. It's a great way to familiarize yourself with the city.Written 15 November 2024

- Pioneer237118229090 contributionsNiushoushan, the marvellous Zen Temple representing the ancient and the future!I had been looking forward to this visit for a long while: finally, with the help of the capable Alana of Amazing Jiangnan Trip, it became reality! The place enshrines a very important Buddhist relic, representing the continuity from the past into the future of Zen Buddhism through one of the most outstanding and mesmerising architectural masterpieces constructed in recent years. Indeed, the temple, consisting of six floors, most of which are underground, has been built recently (2013-2015), but in a few centuries it will fully represent the newly-found wealth and power of XXI century modern China. The government invested a huge amount of money to preserve the important relic, in accordance to the law, where each of the official religions freely practiced in the vast nation is protected. It was a wise decision, as the Niushou site is now visited especially by youngsters showing a new interest in Buddhism and ancient traditions. Visually, the temple is simply stunning. Each decorative element, put together in an effort to evoke the divine, has a deep meaning for the devotee: here comes my gratitude towards my guide for the day, the kind and knowledgeable John. He patiently explained all symbolism, the fascinating religious traditions and Buddhist legends during the extensive visit. We had a wonderful, rich vegetarian lunch at the beautiful temple canteen, then proceeded to climb up one of the tall pagodas in proximity, enjoying the entire panorama of Nanjing. During my week-long visit to Nanjing I used the services of three different excellent guides from the very same agency, and it was the best choice ever! I fully recommend this private tour in particular, it's different from anything you will ever see...Written 27 October 2024
- Peggy T0 contributionsProfessional Historical Nanjing TourI had this tour recently and learned alot from Fred (王玮). He is a very professional, helpful and knowlegeable bilinggual guide. We went to Zhonghua Gate and museum, Sun Yat Sen mausoleum, Xiaoling Tomb of the first Ming Dynasty Emperor. From here I also learnt where and how some Chinese idioms come from. During the journey, he also shared other historical information and recommended me other places that I might be interested too. A very proactive guide indeed.Written 8 September 2024
- davidaX861VI0 contributionsThe astounding Niushoushan Buddhist palace and temple complexEverything about the trip was wonderful. The driver and car were great and Lia was so knowledgeable about the history of Nanjing and about Buddhism and she was also so warm and friendly. The palace was just incredible, on a scale and with an opulence that’s pretty astounding, but I almost preferred the Ch’an garden and quiet temple that Lia took me to afterwards. Definitely recommend.Written 8 September 2024

He spoke perfect English, was very polite and knowledgeable and taught us so many things we didn't know about Nanjing. Very funny and entertaining also! We came from New Zealand and had very little knowledge of China, so it was great to have a local show us around the city. Highly recommend!Written 17 March 2024

- Nmo M0 contributionsInteresting, informative and funA very relaxing tour that took in some great places. Chris was a very knowledgeable guide and was able to share some deep insights into Chinese culture and history as we discussed the places on the tour. Lunch was great but the highlight for me was a quirky bookshop in a beautiful old building. A great way to spend a day and fully recommended.Written 13 January 2024

Alana was very quick at responding on WeChat to our questions and confirmed the details with our tour guide. Our tour guide Emily was professional and personable and very knowledgable! She arranged all the transport and took us to the places we were to keen to visit in Nanjing. Everything went very well and it was a fantastic day! - visitnanjing0 contributionsNice!Set in a naturally acoustic environment, this venue exudes an artistic charm that transcends time. White doves gracefully circle the elegant structure, adding an ethereal touch to its solemnity. When the surrounding forests burst into vivid colors, the Music Stage transforms into a different kind of beauty, radiating the brilliance of a century-old architectural masterpiece.Written 30 November 2023

Sept 2023 • Friends
A two-day, one-night weekend trip from Shanghai to Nanjing by high-speed rail with three mommy friends... It was my first time in Nanjing, so I was looking for a guide, and was introduced to Fred on this site, and we applied for a half-day tour. He spoke fluent English and responded to all of our requests for places to go and food! (Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum, Meiling Palace, Xuanwu Lake, Zhonghua Gate, local restaurants) It was an unforgettable and wonderful trip.

My guide was Fred, who spoke great English and was very knowledgeable about not only the places we visited, but Fred has worldly knowledge as well. The history was fascinating and Fred could answer any questions on it. I fully recommend the tour and maybe you might be lucky as I was to get my great guide Fred.

Knowledgeable guide. Excellent English. The schedule is very flexible. In addition to a selection of the listed sites, we saw the Memorial Hall of the Nanjing Massacre, which is worth seeing. However, it's extremely disturbing, as you might imagine, so be prepared. We skipped the Xiaoling Tomb in order to have time for the Memorial Hall, but if we had it back we would have skipped the Confucian Temple Area, which is essentially modern.

Would recommend. Punctual, courteous. Tour guide Francis has great English, more than just basic conversation. He was knowledgeable and very engaging. Driver was good, always there when we were ready. I was a solo traveler so a little nervous, but it was a pleasant experience. Easy to communicate with Alana the organizer and Francis as there was flexibility in the itinerary.

The name says it all! A fantastic customizable private tour of Nanjing! The day was flawless. Communication before our arrival was great. They asked about what we wanted to see and our arrival information. Eva met us at our train in the morning from Shanghai and we started with an excellent tour of key historical and cultural landmarks of Nanjing. The private car was comfortable and the driver very courteous. Eva (our guide) was extremely knowledgable, spoke excellent English and helped us easily access each site. Our trip included a local lunch which was great! The day ended with a drop-off at the train station for our return to Shanghai. The train to and from Shanghai is very easy and takes a little over an hour each way. Accessible from all Shanghai Metros with ease. Highly recommended!!!

Amazing Shanghai Trip with Viator tours was easy to communicate your needs with. I felt comfortable as a woman taking a solo tour with a male guide and male driver. Fred, or Mr. Wang, was very welcoming and paced the day out nicely.
I requested to visit Chaotian Gong (Heaven Palace), Zhonghua gate, Confucius temple, 50 minute boat Qinhuai River, Mausoleum of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, and Xiaoling Tomb of Ming Dynasty.
My hotel was on the outskirts of Nanjing, and the sequence of locations we visited were adjusted. It was nicer to visit Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum in the morning when it was cooler weather for a bit of cardio exercise up the steps. We did not do the boat ride in the Qinhuai River because Fred said the most interesting part of river was dried up, and not many of the local tourists were using the boats either. Cutting out the boat ride saved time and money.
Some of the sites have little to no English descriptions, so having a tour guide was great for a concise history on the sites, cultural context, and being able to ask questions on how practices in the ancient world are relevant to the Chinese today. Also when looking at these sites, understand the significance that many parts of Nanjing have been destroyed in various conflicts and wars, then later rebuilt with some details missing.
I appreciated Fred giving me free time to roam around the sites to take pictures or buy stuff, and he would keep me on track by telling me what time to meet back with him. Fred also did a great job helping me pick out food for the included lunch. He helped to communicate with staff that I could not have anything with nuts and shrimp, and kept checking for the dishes to be delivered within a reasonable time.
Overall, I got to see everything I could possibly fit in one day.

Can we cover all spots when you get only 6:30 hrs only for sightseeing as 3 hrs will be spent on traveling to and from Shanghai by bullet train ? Do we need to stay the night to cover all spots ? Please advise

We did the tour all within the same day. The tour guide met us at the train station and dropped us there at the conclusion. (So, yes, you can do all in one day from Shanghai.)
