I enjoyed having 2 hours for a seafood lunch & time at beach … It was good to see & taste the different wines at the huge wine shop en route but $5 for a basic coffee from a machine - not even a barrista!! Try to have coffee before you leave!!Written 14 January 2025

- anna2ny10 contributionsDisappointedThe trip was a bit of a disappointment. The winery stop at Casablanca was very unpleasant- the establishment looks like a cheap low quality highway stop that caters for a mass tourism. We stayed there unnecessarily long and had nothing to do. Valparaiso is lovely but we spent only an hour and a half which is not enough. It would have been better to stay longer and have lunch there rather than spending longer time at Vina del Mar. Some of the stops along the way were pointless. Last but not least the guide spoke with a broad accent and muffled pronunciation and it was very difficult to understand him. If you want a better quality experience I recommend choosing a trip with a smaller group and a longer stay in Valparaiso.Written 25 December 2024
- Paula D0 contributionsCajon del MaipoThe trip was nice. The driver and guide were friendly and knowledgeable. My only issue is that the van was very hot.i am glad I took this trip.Written 25 December 2024

We were first time visitors to Chile and booked this tour via MTA, and we are so glad we did. As others have mentioned, the Cajon is still closed to tour groups because of a bad accident with some tourists, so they substitute Ski Portillo now.
Our small group fit well in the Sprinter van with plenty of space and comfort (much nicer than the big coaches/groups we saw). The best was Gonzalo - everything you could ask for in a guide. He gave a fully narrated tour in two languages while the driver took us to the various stops. Gonzalo was fun, funny, very knowledgeable, and genuinely cared that we had a good time. His passion was contagious. We loved the stops and explanations he gave, he took time to make sure we enjoyed the experience. He gave lots of pointers on other things to do/see in Santiago too.
I dreaded the meal stops, fearing they were “tourist traps”, but the food and wine was reasonable and good.
It’s a full day and we highly recommend Gonzalo and MTO tours!

For the price it was an excellent tour. We were sent an email, telling us we would be picked up at 6:10 AM. At exactly 6:10 the driver stopped at our hotel door. Yes it was an early time to leave but later we understood why. Traffic was very light, and we were ahead of most of the other tours and locals. As we were beginning to return to Santiago, we saw many locals entering. This part of the road is one lane and when meeting another vehicle, someone has to back up to the nearest pull off. These tour drivers do an amazing job, constantly on their radio, telling each other about cars approaching. Now let me give some more information, they will stop at a roadside stop where you can purchase coffee or hot chocolate and they also have chips and sandwiches. It is pricey for what it is, but they know most people on tours have not eaten breakfast.
The lake is beautiful and ample time is given to walk around and take pictures, about 45 minutes after leaving the lake, they will stop for a picnic lunch. It was good but very simple. Cheese and crackers, wine or a peach drink. They also had Doritos and Potato Chips and sliced salami. Then about 45 minutes after leaving the picnic they will stop at a beautiful Chocolate House....Would I recommend this tour, YES for the price it was well worth it..

It was an early start, our hotel pickup was 6.40am but the overall experience was excellent. Christian was our guide and driver and he looked after us extremely well. Even though some of the roads in the Andes, particulacy on the last lap to the reservoir are hairy, at no time did I feel unsafe. The views in the mountains are spectacular and once reaching the reservoir, it is awesome. The value for money was first class and there were nice touches such as a picnic of cheese and meats, crisps, nuts, crackers and a glass or two of 'Concho Y Toro' red wine. The journey back was broken up well with a stop for the picnic, a visit to a chocolate shop where they serve delicious ice cream and a town stop for a few drinks and light lunch/snack. We enjoyed every minute of our experience today at a very reasonable cost and led by a first class guide/driver, who was also a very considerate person. A great day, thank you!

We originally booked the trip to Cajon del Maipo, but were reassigned to the Portillo tour. They said it was because Cajon was closed due to an accident, but after investigating with some travel angencies, we found out that it was not true and that they do this because it’s not cost effective to take a small group to Cajon. We decided to go anyways, and the place was nice enough, the guide was ok (not the best I’ve had, but fine) and the van was conforable enough too (very ok driver). However, they promised small groups of Max 8 people, and we were 16... it wasn’t an amazing experience, it was only ok. So if you’re looking for something great, this is not it.

Our guide Roxana was amazing - really friendly and great English. However, I found this trip to be slightly random. We went to San Jose de Maipo yet there was nothing to do there except use an ATM. I feel as though driving through it would have been more than enough. Then we went to a chocolate shop (which I HIGHLY recommend purchasing from) but the bonbon flavours did not stand out particularly - rather that the chocolate itself was delicious. The walk at the Yeso reservoir was beautiful albeit short - around 2km (30 minutes) in total including the time we took to take pictures. We were not warned about the ground condition so I recommend wellies / walking shoes or boots if you have them so you don’t waste money on rentals. Picnic was small but the wine was lovely so I’d just recommend taking snacks if you have a big appetite like me. Also to be noted that from pick up to drop off this tour lasted around 12 hours so I highly recommend dedicating the full day to it as we did. Highly recommend but those are just things to bear in mind

After leaving the hotel at 6:20 in the morning we picked some other guests and drove with a stop to the beautiful lake in 2500m above ground. There we had a picknick with wine and cheese and salami. We also saw a waterfall and a glacier in the distance. On the way back we stopped in the Chocolate house where we bought delicious ice cream. After an other stop we returned to Santiago. Van, Driver and guide were great

This tour is great and such an awesome value!
Started out with an early pickup from my hotel, picked up the rest of the group throughout the city, then headed out on the road. The journey is pretty long, so be prepared for that. We stopped about halfway there and grabbed some breakfast and coffee, then continued on to Tinoco Tunnel, a cool experience at a place with a really dark past.
We then headed up the mountain a bit where the roads get very narrow, we had an excellent tour guide and driver, Jaime, who I felt completely safe and confident with.
After reaching the Embalse, we were allowed a lot of time to take pictures, soak up the environment, and enjoy the breathtaking views. We then had a very nice picnic with wine and cheese and crackers, stopped off at a chocolate shop for some much needed gelato on the hot day, and then headed back to the city to drop everyone off.
This isn’t a history-rich tour, our guide was great at giving us occasional tidbits of information and answered any questions we had, but the main purpose of this was to get to the location and enjoy the sights. A lot of time is spent in the van, so just be ready for that.
One big critique and the main reason I didn’t rate 5 stars:
- The pickup process could be a lot more streamlined. While I enjoy the convenience of a hotel pickup, we could have all easily met up at one location in the city and saved a lot of time in the van. I was the first person picked up and the last person dropped off so I had a unique experience in that sense, but it still seems a bit excessive to drive to 7 different hotels in addition to the actual long journey to the embalse.
I would totally recommend this experience to solo travelers and even bigger groups, the pictures do not do justice to this place, it was really amazing seeing it in person and a wonderful day trip to end my stay in Santiago.

Our trip to Embalse del Yeso was simply wonderful!
Starting with the guide Andres, who was very punctual, picking us up at our accommodation exactly at the agreed time. Furthermore, he is very friendly and playful, making the experience even more pleasant.
Although we were in a group with speakers of both Portuguese and Spanish, there was no problem understanding the instructions and interesting facts told by the guide, as he can communicate well in both languages.
As for the itinerary itself, it is very good, with the highlight being the visit to the Embalse del Yeso. Even though it wasn't completely covered in snow when we visited, the landscape is fantastic, making for great memories and photographs of the place.
The itinerary also included lunch at an all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant in San José del Maipo, paid separately. In this restaurant, there is also a mini zoo, where you can see animals such as llamas, deer, horses, peacocks, cockatiels, parakeets and pheasants.
We also visited an artisanal chocolate shop, which is a good place to buy souvenirs.
Finally, we had a nice picnic and took a group photo before returning to Santiago.
I highly recommend the tour!

I booked ths trip to Cajon del Maipo because it was the keast exoensive one and they offered tours in English with a hotel pick up. I was sent a message on wattsup with the pick up time and the driver made arrangements to meet at my hotel. I was the first one to be picked up and the driver was half and hour late. The scheduled pick up was 6:10 and he arrived around 6:40. That being said Diego was very pleasant and was fluent in Spanish and proficient in Portuguese and English.
The trip to the canyon takes around 2 hours and it took another 45 minutes to collect all the other passengers.
We stopped at a hiking equipment rental and I rented some boots because I did not want to get my new sneakers dirty. Boots are highly recommended if it is snowing. The canyon itself is lovely and we spent around 2 hours there including the pinic, which really was just a collection of snacks and salami with some wine but there were no complaints from the guests. Diego maintained good spirits throughout and got everyone back safely. We did stop at the "chocolate house" which is a chocolate shop on the way back. I had seen delicious icecream and authentic hot chocolate. In reality we spent more time in transit and picking up/dropping off guests than at the canyon but for $45 CAD, I thought the experience was pretty good.
