About
This museum is a pioneer in Latin America in the custody, dissemination and study of the artistic legacy of the pre-Columbian people of America. It has an extensive collection of art from ancient cultures, such as the Incas and Diaguitas, among others. It is located in the heart of Santiago, just one block away from Plaza de Armas.

A private museum with an excellent collection of early ceramics and textiles. Very good descriptive panels, including English, make this a place you could spend many hours. Well laid out over 3 floors, collection pieces in ceramic, metal, stone and fabrics, are truly beautiful. Easy to undertake self guided. Museum is closed on Mondays.

This is one of the best museums I have ever been to.

Firstly, because the building it is housed within is fabulous.

Secondly, because it not to big, so the curator has earned their money by just presenting the best of the best.

Thirdly, the way that the items are displayed is outstanding. Best ever perhaps for me. Certainly top three.

The standout for me was the lower ground floor “Before Chile was Chile” – outstanding and so beautiful. So too is the fabric section. Amazingly well-lit displays.

They have a lovely cafe that strangely doesn’t offer table service on Sunday. So staff spend as long explaining the Sunday arrangements as they would bringing you your coffee. And it’s in single use paper cups. Boo! Everything else is fabulous so how about they pay double time on Sunday and get a couple of staff in so that they can save the planet by using china cups?

Their website clearly states that they offer free entry on the first Sunday of the month so we decided to visit on Sunday March 1st. I arrived with a Chilean friend and they asked me to pay the entrance fee of 8000 pesos but they let my friend enter without even asking her to show ID or prove her citizenship. I showed them the website and explained that it clearly states it’s free and does not discriminate based on nationality. The price is 8x more expensive for international visitors and they were not willing to allow me to enter for free with my friend. Very disappointing because we could have planned a different activity for the day. My friend enjoyed the museum but I feel it’s a waste of money and disagree with the discrimination practice.

Rich collection, each piece a work of art not only of cultural or anthropological interest. Dating is very rough making it difficult to see changes over time. Emphasis is on differences between peoples in different places. Explanations are also in English but much less detailed than the Spanish ones.

This museum was a great place to view ancient art, pottery and sculpture. The textile exhibits were excellent. You can go through the entire museum in an afternoon as it is not to large.

We've been to many museums showing the Aztec, Maya, Zapotec, Inca and other Meso- and South American cultures. This is literally the one museum dedicated to bringing artifacts from many of them into one place. Explanatory signs are in Spanish, Friench and English. Download their guided tour app and bring earphones for a vastly improved experience!

Excellent ancient collection and interesting well preserved Chilean artefacts. Extensive range of clay pots used for functional as well as religious purposes. There are also some silver ornaments and remnants of beautiful textiles. Highly recimmended

I was amazed at the quality of the pieces in this museum. Had English descriptions. Not crowded. The basement was my favorite.

Put this at the top of your list of things to see in Santiago. We spent 3.5 hours there - including a delicious lunch at the cafe. There was so much to see. Well laid out. I would rate it as one of the best museums I have visited.

Firstly as a student I was glad to see that they offered student discounts, even for international students. Secondly, this was one of my favorite museum visits of all of South America because there was so much to see - we spent almost 5 hours looking at the various artifacts.
