About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Raul270 contributionsMust do in QuitoThe company had to combine efforts with another tour company due to low demand, however they kept me informed of changes and updated constantly. I believe I ended up with “Quito bus Tour” as the final provider. This place is stunning. Good itinerary as we got to see it before it got all foggy. Be prepared as the hike back up is an absolute killer! (I’m not joking it’s second to Fitz Roy haha!)Written 1 January 2025
- tiagorK862QH0 contributionsA good and safe way to spend a few days away from QuitoThe tour went ahead despite Ecuador Hop not having enough people to fill a bus due to the country's current situation. They end up collaborating with another big tour operator in Quito (Quito Tour Bus) to do the tour which I think is good. With regards tour itself I have nothing to fault. The alternative transport provided was comfortable, always on time, the tour guides were competent and, perhaps the most relevant aspect, I never felt unsafe at any point. The only thing I didn't appreciate is a somewhat lack of transparency from Ecuador Hop when it comes to do the booking online. I believe it's safe to say they know beforehand it's unlikely they will have enough people to fill a big bus. So I think it would be fair to have a banner on the website saying "Due to current situation your tour may be adjusted and other operators may be used". In the end it didn't make any difference (you could even argue it was better because we got a private tour on day 2), but I'd like to know that before committing and paying 350$.Written 14 December 2024

- viniciusglms0 contributionsGreat experienceI had a great experience with Ecuador Hop. I had booked a trip in Ecuador in August, but due to some unforeseen circunstances the trip had to had some changes. The team from Ecuador Hop did their best and was very good at communicating and rearranging alternative days/trips so I didn't miss any experience that I wanted to have in Ecuador. I applaud them for that, because even in the case of unforeseen changes, they will do their best to make sure the experience is great.Written 5 September 2024
- annal3350 contributionsMistreated Animals; Not Good Use of TimeBeware! I am not sure why this gets such amazing reviews! The views of the lagoon are indeed impressive. But given it’s a 6 hour round trip from Quito, I don’t believe the time or price are worth it. The climb down is steep and on gravel paths so very slippery. The time are the bottom is ok. The climb up if you don’t already live at high altitude is very very tough! We’re fit and healthy and really struggled due to altitude. The stop at the art centre is very average- as all the art is by 1 person. And the cultural visit to an Indigenous farm was 5 minutes of looking at vegetables and watching a child mistreat a dog- awful! Tip: do not, please do not, use the horses/donkeys to get back up the crater. They are so mistreated. No water and 1 we saw was clearly in pain - crying while walking until the person recognized this, got off and walked themselves. The horse owner refused to acknowledge the animal should not be working. Awful! If you have time to spare in Quito and looking for day trips- skip this. Go to Banos or Otavalo.Written 29 July 2024
- 513jessev0 contributionsRuined my experience in EcuadorNormally I would not waste my time writing a negative review about something and just move on but I cannot in good conscience allow other travellers to possibly have the same experience that I had with Ecuadorhop. It resulted in extreme stress while trying to enjoy travelling in Ecuador, and I would hate for someone else to have this happen to them. Basically, I reserved a trip from Quito to Cuenca via Baños in February (to travel in June 2024). I had everything booked and paid for and did as they suggested with planning my itinerary around their buses and reserved all of my accommodation too. FOUR DAYS before the departure from Quito I was informed that the Baños to Cuenca leg would be cancelled. They offered no assistance and basically just said after Baños you’re on your own. They also were trying to keep the entire $149 I paid for the original trip instead of refunding the difference to the cheaper Quito to Baños route ($89) telling me “the price is the same” when it certainly is not, let alone the inconvenience of it all. I could’ve left it all at this point if they had delivered the rest of my reservation but no, a mere FIFTEEN HOURS before the scheduled pick up time from Quito they emailed me to tell me that the bus to Quilotoa is now cancelled. To their credit they did provide a full refund quickly. The bottom line is this. Book with extreme caution because Ecuadorhop take no responsibility for their passengers. Whether 3 months out or one day out your plans are never firm with this company. If they cancel the bus they’ll blame it on “the pandemic” “the political situation” “other guests cancelled their travel plans” but if they decide it’s not profitable for them to run a bus at any time they just cancel your trip and leave you stranded, throw some money back, and wash their hands of you. You’d think they’d try and arrange a taxi to shuttle you from your hostel ($3-4) to the public bus ($5) or at least provide you with day tour options, public bus locations/routes/timetable, ANYTHING, to keep you on track but you get nothing from them. Alone in a foreign country and your “local guide” will not help you. Unfortunately I had a similar experience with Peruhop which is the same company. I took a less popular route through Peru last year and they were trying to cancel my trips and change departure times while I was in the middle of the journey. The end of that trip was being dropped off at 1am alone outside some random gas station near the Lima airport (very dangerous and scary area) and left to find my way to my hotel. I was dumb and gave them another chance for Ecuador and now regret it dearly. They’ve cost me one night of lost accommodation, one night of additional accommodation, a week of vacation time I could've planned differently, as well as a lot of undue stress and scrambling to adjust plans at a time I am trying to relax and enjoy a trip on my break from work. Do not book with this company in either Ecuador or Peru or even Colombia which apparently they are launching soon. You can visit all of these locations on inexpensive day tours from the major cities and you can take local buses between them for much less than Ecuadorhop charges for their “convenience”. They are nothing special, they will ruin your experience in Ecuador and you’ll regret ever choosing to book with them.Written 3 July 2024
- 557amitad0 contributionsWorst educador Hop tour agentI booked 4 days tour with Ecuador Hop, they took the money and just one day before the tour they kept changing our plans, cause we didn't have wifi it was very hard to keep up with the plan. We asked not to move forward and refund but they were not ready to refund, the 4 days tour is actually only 3 days tour, we spend one day sitting at the hotel since Quilotoa is only 1km town you don't have anything to do. Cause of constant change in plan my child was sick and we were even going to miss our flight. Please don't book with th but local tours like wonderful educador in banos or through Viator.Written 23 March 2024
- W8107GWcarrieg0 contributionsQuilotoa is even better in person than these photos!Adrian was a fantastic guide. I loved seeing the indigenous village and hearing about the way they live. Quilatoa itself was epic. It was so beautiful, I even cried a little when I saw it.Written 27 February 2024
- Annalala0 contributionsBest decision for our tirp to EcuadorI used EcuadorHop in November of 2023 and it was the best decision we made. We did actually 4 days and 3 night with them in the end. We went to Cotopaxi, Quilotor and Baños and slept each location. However if you are active and loves acitivities, I would skip Quilotor to sleep and move on to Baños. The team was extremely helpful and professional. All the local guides speak great English and they love what they do. Also they could put us in a private vehicle due to the lack of participants and that was the best. They always speak to you via your whatsapp for the next trip and it was very convenient and helpful. We highly recommend you to trip with Ecuador Hop.Written 1 December 2023
- Coastal110260 contributionsHorrible experienceI had nothing but problems with this tour. I traveled with 2 others who had the same terrible experience. First, I booked online for a tour from Quito to Guayaquil to depart July 18th. The next day I get an email stating they wouldn't be able to depart that day, the next available day was the 20th. I completely changed my trip, canceling and rebooking reservations for hotels. Then about 2 days later, I receive a message that they don't have enough travelers to run their regular service. Not all of the stops promised would be included but I could pay an addition $20 for a tour I didn't ask for or want. Then they wouldn't be able to provide service all the way to Guayaquil, only to cuenca. And there would be no refund. When I asked why I wouldn't be getting a refund for not completing the entire promised trip, they said prices had gone up. Their prices had gone up in the 3 days since I'd booked? The company run in ecuador is horrible. They don't advertise anywhere- no tour office, no flyers in hostels, nothing. I traveled through ecuador for 3 weeks and I didn't meet any other traveler who had even heard of them.Written 4 August 2023
- Mexican_Fanatic1000 contributionsGet Hopping with Ecuador Hop!I took the 4 day tour from Quito to Cotopaxi to Quilotoa and Baños. Absolutely amazing!! This is the best way to experience and explore Ecuador, get hopping with new friends and see everything special without the stress of planning and researching or even driving! Ecuador Hop has the best logistical team creating and executing the perfect trip with the best timing. Fantastic local guides on the buses and great stops for food and in depth knowledge about the area. Great communication always and the team went above and beyond to make sure I was happy, safe and really getting the best of Ecuador. I also had so much fun! Unfortunately they are not fully operational however they organized an alternative through Quito Tours honoring our credit from 3 years ago (trip cancelled due to COVID). We experienced Cotopaxi, Quilotoa and Banos with all they have to offer. In the past, Ecuador Hop was a great way to travel. Safe, inexpensive with knowledgeable, friendly staff. We were picked up at our hotel, which was super convenient around 7:45 a.m. First we went to an ecolodge for breakfast, which served us pancakes with fruit and yogurt, bread and coffee and juice. Then we drove up to the parking area on Cotopaxi, which is around 16,300 feet we figured. The road up was bumpy and slow going and we couldn't believe the bus made it up there! When we got out to hike it was sleeting sideways with a wind that just about knocked us over! It was howling! Some people went on ahead up to the lodge, but we decided to turn back as we didn't have the right coats to stay dry and warm with us. The volcano was enshrouded in clouds the entire time so we didn't have much of a view. When everyone came back we went down to the lagoon and did a short narrated nature hike, where it was sunny and a lot warmer. We ate a late lunch at the ecolodge and made it back to our hotel around 6:30 p.m. It was a good adventure. We paid $49 per person.

We bought our tickets for this full day tour from the TI in the Plaza Grande. It included breakfast and a late lunch, which we had at the same place. Food was simple, but good. Our tour guide Sofia was very good and attentive. On the way they stopped at a few places for pictures. Part of the drive to where the hike starts is very bumpy. And I mean very bumpy. We were the oldest people on the tour (60+) and we could not make it up to the end, but most of the younger people did. It is not an easy hike at 15,000+ feet. I think everyone was feeling the altitude to one degree or another. But Cotopaxi was amazing and we saw beautiful scenery and wild horses and a fox. It was a good day trip from Quito to get out of the city and see nature.

I made the cotopaxi one day tour and was alright with the tour. The guides (Jackie and Paulina) and the meals were awesome. As a suggestion to staff, I suggest giving more time to people who want to reach the glaciars.

Our group consisted of 9 people speaking Spanish or English. So, our guide had to cope with both languages, what he did very well. Doing so, Josue proved a profound knowledge about Ecuadorian vulcanos and the flora & fauna of this habitat.
The tour was very well organized, being picked up from the hotel a superb confort !
I can only recommend visiting Cotopaxi with Josue and the Ecuador Hop Team.

Not sure if we were altitude sick or just sick from sitting over the wheel in the back of the bus.
Tip try and sit up front if you can.

I had the privilege of visiting the Cotopaxi Volcano and National Park. We had an excellent driver who knew the terrain well. Our guide Daniel and Carmen was very informative. Carmen is Quechua and we learnt a lot from her and her admiration of the land her people lived on for years before the conquestidores came to the Americas. Ecuador Hop is an excellent company in the tourism industry and I will definitely use their services in the future.

Amazing experiences and people to meet are sure to be found when you book with this company! I booked both a full-day Quilotoa tour as well as a full-day Cotopaxi tour with them and both were incredible experiences with amazing guides! I have to thank Alex, as well as our driver and other guide whose name I unfortunately forget for a beautiful Quilotoa tour - super knowledge, friendly, and welcoming guides + driver! I also have to thank Adrian (guide) and Carlitos (driver) for the BEST experience at Cotopaxi. They both were super knowledgeable, friendly, welcoming, funny, and just wonderful people! Everyone that I met on both of these tours as well were amazing people, now friends. And the experience at Quilotoa and Cotopaxi...well, you're just going to have to go see it for yourself! Clean buses, amazing, friendly, high-energy, and knowledgable guides, great routes, great timing, beautiful sightseeing! Book book book with this company. There's not much more that I can say. Thanks again Ecuador Hop and special thanks to Alex, Adrian, Carlitos, and the other guide + driver! Enjoy!

Jan 2020 • Friends
I booked the Quito to Banos bus trip with the overnight in Cotopaxi (we stayed at Wim hostel instead of Chuquiagua), the Quilotoa overlook, and a swing tour in Banos. Here's what was great:
-what happened:pick up in Quito at 6:34 (punctual to their 6:30 scheduled time!) at our hostel. Brought to a bus with everyone else that went to Cotopaxi. Had breakfast at Chuquiagua lodge. Left our luggage at the lodge for the overnight stay. Went to mountain!!! Hiked for 1-2 hours up and took option to go to see the glacier (instead of resting at the Chalet and drinking cocoa). Went to lagoon at base of mountain quickly. Bathroom stop. Back to Chuquiagua for lunch. We called our hostel (Wim hostel was amazing) he picked us up and dropped us back at the Lodge in the morning). At 8am the following day we went with the Ecuadorhop bus to the Quilotoa loop overlook (5 minutes hike) but the Cotopaxi overlook was just pulling off the side of the road on the highway to take pix. (so glad we did the hike!!). Here, some stayed to do the full day Quilotoa hike and return to Quito. We continued on the bus to Banos (no lunch only brief icecream/snack stop) arriving at 3:30pm. At 4:30, after quickly checking in to hostel, we joined the $10 Banos tour to the house of the tree, then the swing at the edge of the world, then a candy shop (no dinner). End at 6:30.
-Cotopaxi was amazing. We gave ourselves a day to acclimate in Quito after flying in from sea level. Good decision for avoiding altitude sickness. We drove up a long bumpy road to a parking place to hike up the mountain. We went straight up!
-It was 35F so I was warm enough with me fleece and down (and gloves and long underwear).
-You have to walk slow because it is 4500m up there. Then some went to rest at the Chalet/refuge for 45 min while we continued with no break to the glacier. The clouds were thick but briefly parted for us to see the amazing glacier view and also my friend tasted the glacier stream water (not guaranteed safety :)). Probably at about 5000m. It was so beautiful.
-The way down was steep through the dirt (maybe some volcanic ash) to make a faster desent). I slipped but brought trekking poles to help.
-Erica was our guide with Besttrip (brother company that actually runs the tour to Cotopaxi) and Paula was our the leader from a local indigenous tribe who led us up the mountain. Both were excellent at getting us engaged and telling us important details about our surroundings.
-Daniel was our guide on the bus from Quito and then on to Quilotoa. He was very helpful and helped me to feel like I was seeing something with him for the first or second time even though this is his everyday job. He was also an excellent guide.
