- 355jarede0 contributionsChocolate Lovers Unite!I love chocolate! So when we found we had an extra day of acclimating before trekking through Peru, I booked the Bean to Bar workshop for my wife and I. Our "Willy Wonka" instructor was fabulous. She was funny, informative, and interacted with our entire group. We completed almost the entire process of making chocolate from picking our our beans, roasting them, peeling, making them into paste, and even more along the way. We had competitions and laughed throughout the tour. In the end, we were provided with our choice of dark or milk chocolate to mold and take home with us. If you have a couple of extra hours in Cusco and you love chocolate, I highly recommend this tour.Written 4 September 2024
- Traveller1620140 contributionsGreat way to spend an hour or soMy boyfriend and I popped in here, enjoying the free entry, and had lots of free samples of chocolate and liquor. I bought something from the little shop - it is a great place to buy presents for friends and family. We then treated ourselves to a hot chocolate which was amazing. You can also do chocolate making classes here but we decided not to on this occasion.Written 30 August 2024
- louiville70 contributionsA good small local museum/shop that provides many interesting insights into chocolate. This small local museum provides a quick stopover to learn and shop about chocolate. There are chocolate sculptures and information on the history in English/Spanish on the walls. The staff are helpful and allow you to navigate as you wish. There is an array of products and items to purchase. There are many chocolate items you will have never seen or purchased before. - C8820OMmaryp0 contributionsClass was great for kidsWe wanted to do the chocolate making class but the price seemed a bit steep for our whole group, so we just registered our kids, age 10 and 14. The class was 2 hours long and the kids loved it. They were super engaged and thrilled with their creations. They even learned some things.Written 21 July 2024

- Navigator475616181100 contributionsBest Cooking Class/Food Tour Experience! Our family of four all enjoyed this adventure with our great chef, Jil. He took us through the authentic local market (in addition to San Pedro market). What a highlight to our trip - Jil’s fun demeanor, seeing and tasting new foods, having local interaction, preparing delicious food and Pisco Sours, and finishing with chocolate covered fresh strawberries we’d purchased at the market. A must do - and ask for Jil!Written 28 March 2024
- 945sonyae0 contributionsAwesome experience, excellent food!Yil was an amazing instructor. I was by myself and had some unique dietary concerns. He was able to make suggestions and modify the ingredients to accommodate my needs and we prepared an awesome meal together. He not only instructed me on different cooking techniques I hadn't tried before, but also helped me learn about choosing ingredients, how to present the food and so much history and cultural knowledge about Cuzco and the people there. He also taught me about local foods and how to prepare and eat these. Not to mention, this was FUN! The setup of the restaurant and cooking space was clean, beautiful, warm and inviting. It was like going over to a friend's house for dinner who happens to be a chef and cultural ambassador. I highly recommend this class if you are visiting Cuzco. Whether you are looking to learn about the city, culture and food beyond the touristy stuff, or just looking for a fun way to spend an evening, this is the experience for you!Written 17 March 2024

We heard about the different beans, tried different chocolates, then went downstairs for a hot chocolate. The cakes looked amazing but we'd not long eaten so didn't eat there. Highly recommend.Written 18 November 2023

ChocoMuseo folks are ABSOLUTE LIARS. We had visited this spot mid-week and inquired on prices and the person at the front desk gave us a discounted price.
A few days later, we show up to register and they quote us different price, and on top of that, the initial person pretended he didn't know us or hadn't quoted us the original price.
Honestly, it was very distasteful and really made it a sour experience....

Honestly expected this to be pretty touristy, but was pleasently surprised. ran a bit longer than the scheduled 2 hours and all of it was interesting. Learned quite a bit about the history and cultication of chocolate, made 3 types of historic beverage and infusions, lots of Q&A and then our instructor got down to serious chocolate business where we made our own creations in molds. Note, our instructor was very good, engaged the whole group of 12 while making jokes in his 3rd language (English), taught us a little Quecha phrases and threw in some Spanish.

This was a fun afternoon activity with the kids. The first part was a little long standing and listening and learning. Bar stools would be great here. Then we had a competition grinding the chocolate which was fun - the kids liked that. And we tried chocolate in different ways and learned the history and styles of chocolate. We got a lot of samples and prizes and it was a lot of fun. At the end, you choose molds and make your own chocolates with whatever combinations and ingredients you choose. When you come back a couple of hours later, after they have cooled, your chocolates are packaged and ready to take home.

We decided to visit the ChocoMuseo and were pleasantly surprised by the kindness and attention of all the workers. We were encouraged to participate in a chocolate-making workshop, which turned out to be a very entertaining activity and perfect as a team building activity.
After learning the process, we were able to take home the chocolate we made ourselves - a truly rewarding experience! We learned a lot during the workshop and we are very grateful to the entire ChocoMuseo team for their hospitality and shared knowledge.
Plus, the chocolate at the museum is delicious, and it's great to know that they offer a discount if you decide to do the workshop. I completely recommend this experience to anyone who visits, you won't regret it!
Thanks again for a memorable experience - especially Yil!

My wife and I very much enjoyed the bean to bar class (our instructor was nicknamed Haddy). She knew the chocolate-processing process thoroughly, she was funny, and she helped us make delicious chocolates - she was terrific!
We’d definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Cusco, particularly if you’re looking for a fun activity while acclimatizing to the altitude.

I initially wasn’t sure if I should sign up due to the mixed reviews, but I’m happy I did!
Pros:
- The host was funny, engaging, and attentive.
- Learning about chocolate and tasting the subtleties in flavors.
- really hands on and you leave with a good amount of chocolate.
Cons:
The store is also a free chocolate tasting that happens throughout the day, but those patrons kept trying to come into the class, which interrupted the flow. If they had a sign on the door way I think that would help prevent a lot of interruptions.

I am not big on chocolate, so this was too much chocolate for me, BUTTTT that is not to say the experience is still very very much worth it! very educational and informative i love how passionate they are about the cacao bean and all that it has to offer. learning about the process to even make chocolate and then how these big companies ruin pure chocolate for the profit as well! I had mentions on the boooking that it was my moms birthday and they brought out an extra chocolate brownie with a candle to celebrate her. The experience was great!

We had such a great time doing this workshop, from "Bean-to-Bar", at the Choco Museo in Cusco. We learned so much about chocolate and Yilmar made it so much fun from learning about chocolate to making chocolate. We would highly recommend this to anyone traveling to Cusco. The location was also great right near the center historic area of town and our hotel which was right around the corner. Loved every minute and would definitely do again!

Lizzette was a great instructor! We added chocolate to molds and got to add any toppings we like (almonds, sea salt, pecans, gummy bears, marshmallows, coffee beans, cinnamon, and more). Lizzette went through the history of cocoa beans through the Olmecs, Mayans, and Aztecs. We used a mortar and pestle to make a paste out of roasted beans and Lizzette made various drinks for us with it. The class was very interactive and fun! You get to take your chocolates home with you. There is a gift shop on the first floor, a little museum and gender-neutral bathroom on the second floor, and our class was on the third floor.

This was a wonderful activity if you have a free evening. We learned a lot of how chocolate were made. Ana did a fantastic job keeping us engaged. Lots of laughs and yummy tasting of different hot coco drinks AND chocolate. You come back to pick up the chocolate you make about 45 minutes after class.

No, not that I remember. My boyfriend and I are lactose intolerant. We did have a taste of some milk chocolate, but we passed on the hot chocolate that was made with milk (it was a sample cup). There was no problem with not having dairy!
