Itinerary
- 1We start the morning at 09h30. We meet in the main square, Plaza de Armas outside Mcdonalds. We move up to Santa Ana and have a quick breakfast in UMA Café at 10:00. After breakfast, we move up the street for a magnificent unique perspective from the Arch of Santa Ana. This ancient arch has a vantage point to photograph the city and barely anyone knows you can actually go to the top! We move down into San Pedro market around 10h30. Also known as the Central Market (Mercado Central), the San Pedro Market is one of the most traditional and classic places to photograph in Cusco. Built by the famous Gustave Eiffel in 1925, this location concentrates the local Quechua residents and is usually busier and more attractive in the morning. Entering this market is a different experience. You’ll find everything from fresh fruit and veggies, natural medicines, people having a meal next to cow heads for sale, lots of crafts and an entire world of Quechua influences and amazing colors. At 12:00 we move to Plaza San Francisco and visit San Francisco de Assis Church, convent, and catacombs. The San Francisco Church is one of the oldest and most forgotten wonders of the city. We will visit this convent/church and explore its history and architecture. We will explore the underground catacombs, the church, choir area with amazing carved cedar chairs and one of the highlights - the Bell Tower, where you can enjoy an impressive view of the city. We will also visit the outdoor patio, designed with superb detail in the Spanish colonial style. At 1 pm there is a mandatory stop in the main square (Plaza de Armas). There’s no escaping the main plaza. It concentrates so much history about the Incan empire! Explore this area with a more photographic approach but get to also learn a little bit about the history of Cusco. Then we move up to San Blas neighborhood and have our lunch stop in San Blas Market. Lunch is quick and simple but delicious. A healthy local sandwich of your choice and fresh fruit juice. San Blas market is known for an alternative vibe, healthy food options, and few tourists. Around 14:00 we move out of the market and explore the San Blas Neighborhood. The oldest and most beautiful neighborhood in Cusco. Known as the location where all artists live in the city. This area has some hidden gem locations that make for amazing street photography and not a lot of people know about them. We will take you there along some mandatory stops like the “Mirador de San Blas” where you can have an amazing overview of the city. At around 15h00 we have the option either visit a local, traditional Chicheria, serving the drink chicha made from fermented corn, this is a very local spot and a perfect way to get to experience some of the true local culture, if this doesn’t take your fancy we have the option to visit a local bar with the best view in Cusco, here we can relax and drink a pisco sour while overlooking the entire city, you’ve earned it! Also very important about this tour : Cusco's dynamic changes daily! So some locations in it's streets are not open every day! We leave this as a surprise as it is not garanteed. But we always pass by the places and if open we go inside to show you some hidden gems of Cusco! Fingers Crossed!
About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- O9977CIkurtb0 contributionsGreat Photography, Professionally Managed, Highly Recommended! The photo tour of the Bolivian salt flats and Atacama Desert in Chile was outstanding. Kevin relied on his knowledge and experience in the region to identify perfect locations for capturing incredible shots of wildlife, landscapes, and the Milky Way as well as managing the logistics of getting to and staying comfortably in some very remote locations. I have been an amateur photographer for 40+ years, but this was my first serious go at night shooting. I joked to a friend that Kevin is the Julia Child of astrophotography. He shows you step by step what you need to know and then gives you the opportunity to do it yourself. It was a great experience!Written 9 December 2024

- Skylar K0 contributionsThe Experience of a LIFETIME!! An unforgettable 2 week mother daughter trip around Peru with Andean Photo Expeditions!I went on a two-week mother daughter trip through Peru with Andean Photo Expeditions, and it was the most unforgettable adventure I’ve ever had. Dan, the owner, was so helpful in helping us create the perfect itinerary. From the seamless logistics to the thoughtfully chosen accommodations and authentic local experiences, Andean Photo Expeditions exceeded all our expectations!! Our journey began in Lima with the Huacachina Photo tour, a highlight thanks to Dan’s expert guidance, friendly nature, and incredible photography skills. We enjoyed sandboarding and dune buggy rides and received amazing drone footage too. Dan also recommended a private bonfire dinner here and it was one of the most experiences for my mom and I. During Cusco Photo tour and exploration of the Sacred Valley, we were guided by Noe, another talented member of the team. Noe took us to hidden gems and local spots we would never have found on our own, capturing stunning photos and videos throughout the trip. His creativity and talent in videography made every moment special, and he quickly became a friend. A standout experience was the Faces of Peru tour, where we participated in an authentic cultural ceremony with the Quechua community. This unique experience was deeply moving and provided insights into Peruvian culture that we could not have accessed without Andean Photo Expeditions. Noe’s translation from Quechua to English allowed us to engage fully in the ceremony. Our itinerary also included The Moray, Mara’s and Chinchero photography tour (would never have been able to do this much without them!) A highlight here was a beautiful countryside picnic set up for us, and candid moments captured beautifully by Noe throughout. Lastly, a bucket list visit to Machu Picchu, a sunrise horseback to Humantay Lake, Rainbow Mountain, and a final leg to Lake Titicaca - all experienced with the most incredible guide Noe. Andean Expeditions also set up two of the most unique and authentic experiences I’ve ever had - A special geodesic eco-dome camp before Humantay and a homestay experience on our own floating islands of Lake Titicaca, both hosted by the kindest families who made us feel instantly at home and prepared all of our fresh home cooked meals. Noe’s expertise in photography and videography was invaluable. As a new content creator, I learned so much from him that I will carry forward in my future travels. His dedication to capturing the perfect shots is truly so special. This was truly a trip of a lifetime, and I am immensely grateful to Dan and Noe for making it so special. I wholeheartedly recommend Andean Photo Expeditions to anyone looking for an extraordinary travel experience in South America. Thank you, Dan and Noe! I look forward to my next adventure with you both!Written 8 July 2024

- camerron980 contributionsGreat way to see Lima in a day!I only had 1 day on my trip to Peru in Lima, so I found this tour online with several great reviews and gave Dan a last-minute call to arrange a tour on the same day and I'm so glad I did. I had a private tour with Dan who picked me up from my hostel and showed me all the highlights and plenty of hidden gems around Lima too. The pace was great, not too rushed so I could take my time for good photos, talk to locals and learn more about Lima and Peru. I definitely made the most of my 1 day in Lima and would highly recommend!Written 18 December 2023

Being on a business trip in Lima, I took advantage of the weekend to explore Lima with the intention to visit the less touristic but stunning parts of the town and to learn about the culture and lives of the people there. It was such a gorgeous day immersing into Lima and learning so much about Peru, it's people and culture from Dan. I can recommend this private tour to everyone. Having travelled a lot, this was one of my best city tours ever! I can highly recommend it to anyone!Written 7 December 2023

I enjoyed the photo tour with Pedro. We saw the major attractions and we had access to a couple of special vantage points to take in city view. We visited a couple of local markets and had lunch at one. This is a great tour to get introduced to Cusco.

I started off with a day tour with friends around Lima with Dan and had a lot of opportunities for awesome photos of wonderful vistas of Lima, and got some great photo tips :)
Then I spent 4 days with Noe on photo tours based out of Cusco. We started with the Alternate Rainbow Mountain, which was amazing!
Then we continued with getting outside the city and seeing some amazing landscapes and learning more about landscape photography.
My favorite day was when we went to visit a local family up in the mountains and learned about portrait photography.
Bernardino cooked us a wonderful lunch and his family was so welcoming!
My favorite moment was when we all piled into the van and drove up to a scenic spot overlooking a lake, and we all just sat there and enjoyed each other’s company :)
Bernardino’s son even let me try to play his recorder lol
Noe is a great photographer and guide and was so patient with my friend and I, and by the end of the 4 days he had both of us shooting in manual..that’s quite a feat!
I highly recommend Andean Photo Expeditions and would love to go back and take some more tours with them, especially to the Amazon!

I did a Morning Photo Shooting Tour with Noe Turpo Cruz in Cusco which I can thoroughly recommend. We started our tour around Plaza de Armas taking some photos of the Cathedral and Iglesia La Compania from a position allowing reflections of the churches in a fountain. We then continued and shot some photos with star effects into the sun under the arcades of the Plaza. At the upper part of San Blas we photographed the famous Gate as well as the street and buildings winding down to the town centre. Attending the Procession of Locals during the Meeting of the Mary Statue of Santa Ana with the One from Poroy was my personal highlight being the only Western Tourist there while Inti Raymi was going on. This opportunity allowed a non touristic photography of locals and scenes of the procession. Towards the end of our session we walked down to Mercado San Pedro taking pictures of several shopkeepers. Without Noe it would simply have been impossible to visit as many locations as we did within a relatively short time frame and getting access to people who were willing to be photographed. Noe not only gave me a lot of tips for composition but also encouraged me to shoot in full manual mode in the future making better use of the function buttons of my camera. A short photo critique and some advice on Lightroom post processing functionalities, I had not been aware of, completed our seession. Noe is a very creative, talented and experienced photographer so that I enjoyed our common tour a lot. He is empathic and an excellent mentor on what to improve in ones photography. It was a real pleasure being with him on the Cusco Morning Photo Shooting Tour and I can strongly recommend to engage him for photography in Cusco.

I have written hundreds of reviews and believe in the power of feedback; I hope my review is helpful.
We met up with our guide, Noe, in the lobby of our hotel. Noe was excellent from A to Z. He took us to some less touristy spots as well as some of the normal spots and helped us capture memorable pics.
Noe is a local and helped us understand some of the history, culture and even foods the locals eat.
This was our first full day in Cusco and it was a great way to orient us to the city.
We even asked Noe to take us to a non-touristy, locals-only restaurant for lunch and that was very memorable and gave us an insight into everyday life for locals.
I highly recommend this tour especially for those who want to make sure they come away with some great pics and memories.
Bravo, Noe. ¡Gracias!

I recently did this tour with Dan. Overall excellent experience and would highly recommend it. I was picked up from my hotel on time, went to the outskirts of the city, near the Christ statue, and then slowly walked down into the city. Dan knew all the best areas for picture taking, and provided excellent advise for camera angles, settings, perspectives. I used a DSLR camera as well as iphone.

My husband and I are taking a 6 months road trip from Boston to Argentina, and I have been trying to take photo tours in all kinds of different places on the road to improve my photography skills. I found Andean Expeditions when we entered Peru and ended up signing up for both Lima Day Tours with Dan and Portrait and Landscape Expedition in Cusco with Pedro. I have to say both tours really exceeded my expectation, and Dan and Pedro are great photographers and both fo them are really passionate about photography.
The Lima Day Tour we went to the old town, local market, Miraflores, and cool Barranco district. We were not only sightseeing, but I also learned many tips for photography from Dan. The Cusco tour Pedro took us to a very traditional local market which I absolutely love, then we went to a lake and ended at a very beautiful salt mine. And it's very cool that Pedro and I are actually using the same camera system (Fuji XT) and it's very nice of him to share his lens with me so that I can try different lens and filters.
I had great two days with both Dan and Pedro and definitely hope I will have the chance to go to their longer expeditions in the future. I absolutely recommend anyone who is passionate about photography and would like to learn the beautiful culture of Peru to sign up for Dan and Pedro's expeditions!

The views from Dan’s unique viewpoints were fantastic, we were the only ones going these places. Also the visit to the indigenous community in 4200m altitude, being the only tourists, was quite an experience.

The tour was great. Alex our guide knew the area well enough to get us into areas not open to other tourists (a locked tower and walkway over one of the streets and the bell tower and roof of San Franciscan cathedral). In addition to the large and colorful San Padro market we also got to go to the smaller, almost hidden San Blas market that was not as colorful, but way safer to eat at. Alex was also able to help suggest photo shots and angles that may not have been obvious. The only negative was the tour stated there would be a Pisco sour provided at the end and we ended up paying for our. Still it was well worth the time and money

Hi Kurt, thank you so much for the review and a great day! I’m terribly sorry about the Pisco sour - that was an oversight on our part; and outdated itinerary that we missed when making changes. I can assure you we are in the process of updating it so this doesn’t happen again.

Coming from a sea level town, the altitude of Cusco was tough to get acclimated to. Alex was the tour guide and he set a good pace throughout the day. I would 10 out of 10 recommend this day tour for anyone who likes to get past the main tourist streets. The places are well traverse but this tour gives a slightly different perspective. Lots of fun for those interested in street, portrait, and micro shots. I tend to lean towards landscapes, but with Alex's support I was galvanized to take some portrait shots that I am very happy with. Alex made the day fun and easy. He is passionate and skilled at photography and has made the effort to learn and connect with the people and region's culture. I found Andean Photography Expedition day tour in Cusco to be educational in understanding more of my camera's functions, as well as gaining insights into the lives of the local people. Lots of walking up and down the streets of Cusco, but don't let that deter you from a truly fantastic way to start any journey through Peru.

I signed up for a private Cusco Photography Tour after having done the Lima tour with Dan. And many thanks to Alex for making it another amazing day in Peru!
This tour is well thought out, with an excellent coverage of the historic must-sees, magnificent city views from different angles, colorful and vibrant local markets, and those beautiful pebble-stoned Incan streets. With Alex’s intimate knowledge of the city and assimilation into the local community, we visited and photographed at many hidden spots that were full of surprises! The highlight of the tour, for me, was watching the locals hanging out at the chicheria and waiting for the clouds to clear up for a highly anticipated sunset, while picking our favorite photos of the day over a huge glass of chica. After a day of walking and shooting, that sense of gratification and feeling of relaxation were beyond expression!
Taking into consideration the high altitude and the hilly streets of Cusco, the tour is well-paced with timely stops for coffee, lunch, and drinks. Do prepare for occasional precipitation - Cusco is full of surprises, so is its weather.
I think I may be one of Alex’s first customers, but he is no novice in photography, the outdoors, or touring in Peru! He’s delightful, patient, and full of spirit. He shared many photography tips with me throughout the day, his knowledge of stones (while waiting for a quick hail storm to pass), and his passion for the wild. To top everything off, I received his awesome shots the second day!
If you have a full day in Cusco, book the tour! It will make your day and memories.
