About
The RAINBOW MOUNTAIN TREK & MACHU PICCHU PACKAGE is the best of both worlds: a stunning trek past snow-capped mountains, turquoise lakes, glacial peaks, colorful striated mountains, all ending with a tour of one of the 7 man-made wonders of the world, Machu Picchu! The Rainbow Mountain Trek is a new route located in the high Andes and traverses the incredibly colorful Vinicunca or Rainbow Mountains. This beautiful multi-day hike is tucked away in a well hidden section of the Vilcanota Mountain range. Surrounded by glacial mountains, this route treks in the shadow of the highest mountain in the Cusco Region, Ausangate (6300m/21,000ft). The route is 52km/32.3 miles long and goes from 3300m/10,827ft to 5050m/16,568ft. This is a true off the beaten path wilderness trek – above the tree line with views of the Andes and glacial peaks. Prices per person USD: 6-10 trekkers: $1200, 3-5 trekkers: $1250, 2 trekkers: $1600

Once in a Lifetime Experience
May 2021 • Friends
My husband were blown away with the experience and service Killa Expeditions gave us. This trek was challenging, but extremely rewarding. It offered some of the most spectacular views we have seen. I don't know if we have one favorite part in particular seeing that the entire week was just one amazing crew after the next. We truly appreciated how the staff at Killa Expeditions went out of their way to make our trek special. If you are looking for an exciting adventure, breathe taking vistas, and hard working staff, look no further. You've found the right group. :)

Incredible trek, guides, food, and people
Oct 2019 • Friends
I joined the trek beginning Oct 19th and it completely exceeded expectations! The guide was fantastic, the food was delicious, the porters were outstanding and the people who joined the trek as well just made this a once and a lifetime experience I am so grateful I got to have.
There were so many personal touches already thought of like hot bowls of water in the morning to clean your face and coca tea, and hot water bottles and extra blankets at night made. Our guide was kind, funny, knowledgeable and enthusiastic! He made sure we never missed a good photo opportunity and gave us so much advice and information about what we saw. The porters were patient, understanding and helpful!
I would highly recommend this trek! You won’t be disappointed! This company clearly loves what they do and that shows with how they provide the experience and customer service!
So great! Can’t wait for another adventure!!

Wow. I still can't believe how fantastic this trek was.
Oct 2019
I have been back in Canada for less that 48 hours and have already been telling everyone I know about how wonderful of an experience I had with Killa Expeditions. The Rainbow Mountain Trek & Macchu Picchu had everything I could have asked for - incredible guides and hiking support, spectacular views, terrific company, and a remote trek, with hardly any other hikers on our route.

I want to highlight in particular how well I was cared for by the guides and horsemen when I had a bout of altitude sickness. They ensured to give me every possible support that allowed me to finish the trek.

This was a very special trip for me, and I would highly recommended it to anyone looking for a unique trekking experience in Peru. Every little detail was thought of, and myself and the other hikers and I am very grateful that I selected Killa Expeditions for this trek. I was also travelling alone - which was no issue at all, I found this trek very social and interactive as well, and feel that I have met new friends from all over the world.

Thanks in particular to Guido and Americo - our awesome guides!

Best trekking experience in Peru!
Oct 2019
Just returned from an epic trip to Peru. The guides, horsemen, and cooks all work together to make this an amazing experience. Every detail is handled perfectly and if they can do anything to make extra accommodation for you, they do it! We were blessed with great weather and the guides took advantage to give us additional opportunities to get views and photos from areas that might not be possible in other conditions. We were able to reach the top of Rainbow Mountain both at sunset and sunrise, both times without other travelers getting in the photos. The food preparation will blow you away. It really doesn't seem like you'd be able to do that much cooking in a tent at that elevation. I'm so thankful that we chose Killa Expeditions and give them my absolute recommendation for anyone heading to Peru.

Best trek imaginable!
I’m in the Lima airport returning from this trek and I can’t recommend Killa highly enough. This company’s preparation and professionalism are absolutely top-notch. We were thoroughly briefed for our expedition prior to departure and received info for the the next steps every day.

The staff were excellent across the board! Our primary guide, Guido H. was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. His live for the place shows through. The secondary guide Americo was supportive and a great trail companion. The horsemen and cooks on the trek were total pros. Every time we got somewhere, camp was set and there was an absolutely delicious meal about to hit the table. I’m a chef and I was completely impressed by the variety of excellent dishes Andres cranked out of of a small kitchen tent. I wish I’d been smart enough to learn a few Quechuan phrases before the trip!

The trip itself is utterly fantastic. It’s remote and wild and stunning. I can barely believe the beauty of that place in any direction. The peaks, glaciers and lakes will blow you away. Killa does a great job of making sure you get to the important sites early before the crowds inundate them. We had Rainbow Mountain completely to ourselves at sunset and that was a gift. Guido did an incredible job of imparting solid history of the area at every point, especially once we got to Machu Picchu. There again, great planning had us there at the first available opportunity. You can’t have MP to yourself but we did get to experience it in as relaxed and uncrowded way as I think you can.

I could go on and on about how great this company and their outings are but do yourself a favor and experience it for yourself. I definitely hope to again!

Great views and great guide
Oct 2019 • Couples
This trek was beautiful, challenging and hardly anyone else was on the trail which made it great. We were first people on top of rainbow mountain which made for an even greater experience. Also in the first group to MP where we had photos unobstructed from other people. This was possible to our guide, Efandi aka Iffi, for recommending great times to go and also taking into consideration the groups pace. Food was amazing for being in remote camping areas and liked small group size. Definitely recommend to book with Killa even if alittle more expensive as accommodation, guides , food and experience are excellent.

Magical trekking experince
We recently had an amazing time doing the Salkantay & Inca Trail (5 nights) and the Rainbow Mountain (1 night) with Killa Expeditions. I cannot recommend these two trips enough, every aspect was delivered well beyond our expectations. Massive shout out to our guide, Justino, who was extremely knowledgeable and made sure our every need was taken care off. And the support staff... wow! These guys are amazing! Our chef prepared the most delicious food for us three times a day (and catered carefully to my special dietary needs) and the porters constantly blew our minds as they navigated the trails with ease. All of this allowed us to enjoy the hiking and sights without any worries.
Overall, if you are thinking of trekking in Peru, Killa are the best way to go!
