The Machu Picchu Trip was fabulous. I was worried that such a short trip wouldn’t include much but it fit into my time schedule. The trip was much more than I expected. Kevin was an amazing tour guide. He is extremely knowledgeable about Peru, it’s history, architecture, and people. He related well to all members of our tour group. I would highly recommend this trip to others. Thanks for checking in with me.

I booked our trip to Cusco, Sky lodge and Machu Picchu through EUP and they were amazing. I arrived a day late due to flight delays, but their team was responsive and quickly adjusted the plans so we wouldn't miss anything. The hotels were fantastic. The staff were professional and friendly. Kevin was great and very knowledgeable. He planned a wonderful day seeing sights like the market in Pisac, ruins in Ollantaytambo, and other stops to show us local foods and textile artisans. Also he explained everything about Inca history. In all, it was a great way to begin our trip, which continued with an amazing stay in Aguas Calientes and visit to Machu Picchu and then back to Cusco.

This was my second trip to Peru and once again Kevin and Stephany delivered the most incredible experiences for us. We flew from Dallas to Lima and then caught a connecting flight to Cusco. Kevin and our amazing driver Richard met us right at the airport and from that moment we were off on an adventure!
Day one started with a walking tour of Cusco, or “Level 1” as we called it. We visited an aqueduct where beautiful romantic photos can be taken, walked to scenic lookouts above Cusco, visited a beautiful church where wedding and quincenera photos were being taken, had a fantastic lunch with a man playing the pedal harp, visited local markets, did some shopping, had custom license plates made, and more.
Kevin talked us through our packing for the next few days as we were about to go to Machu Picchu and luggage is limited on the train. So after a great nights sleep and a hearty breakfast, Kevin and Richard picked us up and off we went!
We started with a walk through Sacsayhuaman where battles were fought, and as we entered we were so lucky because they were just bringing the grazing llama and alpaca onto the land so we got some great photos! Kevin gave us the history and pointed out very special things like the llama hidden in the stone placement. We continued on to Pisac, our “Level 2” climbing experience. Pisac is so beautiful and a great place to learn about the hierarchy of classes in the Incan culture. You can see the cemetery in the rock walls, the terraces, the way they lived, and more. Pisac and Cusco are at high altitudes and walking can find you winded easily. Spry Kevin matched our pace and didn’t cause us to overexert ourselves. We then headed to Ollyantaytambo where we completed Level 3 in our climbing plan, going even higher than my children went with Kevin on our last trip! It may have been only 20 ft higher, but I was thrilled I climbed the 300 steps of the site this year (I was too out of shape to do it in 2020). Kevin weaves the most beautiful visual stories as he tells you about the Incan princess falling in love with the military leader and what may have happened at Ollyantaytambo. As you look out over the Sacred Valley you see Tunupa, a beautiful carving in the mountain across from you, and also you can see the Skylodge (more on that later!)
We walked through the local market, ate a fantastic hot & freshly prepared lunch and took the train to Machu Picchu Pueblo. Here you enjoy a free evening and Kevin arranged a beautiful room for us at the Casa Andina. It was right on the river, had a huge balcony and at night we sat out and watched the stars move across the skies. It was so peaceful and calm. A wonderful evening! Early the next morning Kevin met us at our hotel and we all took the bus up to Machu Picchu (a 30 minute ride). As we explored Machu Picchu we were amazed as Kevin’s knowledge. He took us there last year too but we learned all sorts of different facts about the site on this trip! After a quick bus ride down and a leisurely lunch we took the train back to Ollyantaytambo. We love the Expedition Observatory train because of the amount of glass for viewing the scenery along the way. Kevin did a great job getting us tickets on this hard to book train!
Now, here’s where Kevin totally outdid himself. He booked us at the Casa Andina Valle Sagrada. This hotel was insanely beautiful! Our room had a living room with a fireplace (and they built us a gorgeous fire), a bedroom with a glass wall to view the outdoors, a bathroom bigger than my home where a 6’4” guy was able to lie almost flat in the bathtub, an indoor AND outdoor shower. Just stunning. Even more spectacular is that the hotel has a telescope and planetarium!! We got a private night with the astronomer and enjoyed the heavens for hours!! In the morning we got to bottle feed baby alpaca before we started off on yet another adventure!
That day we went to Moray, where the Inca built microclimates for farming. It is so high up with a beautiful view of the snow capped Andes. Absolutely gorgeous! We also went to Maras, to the salt mines and got yummy salts for cooking!
But the highlight of our trip was the Skylodge Adventure suites. Kevin arranged for us to climb a via ferrata (metal steps in the side of a mountain), to reach glass pods suspended from a maintain face, and we dined and slept here. It was hands down an amazing experience. So physically and mentally rewarding. So spiritually energizing. We ziplined down in the morning and continued our trip. Here’s where it got extra special. We went to Chinchero where they were having a special festival. We saw local Peruvian dancing, customs, and the clothes were so beautiful!! Kevin happens to be from the town so we were especially lucky to meet his family (we requested that!!) and got a special sombrero de paño made just for me!!
We had a fantastic dinner with our entire team that planned and took care of our every need on the trip. (And we ate guinea pig, my new favorite food!)
There are so many tour companies you can go with but let me tell you why you need to choose Kevin. In the 18 months since I was last in the region he has kept in touch. He’s always asking about my family and celebrating their growth and experiences. On this trip I happened to get very sick. Kevin and Stephany and Richard were all very worried, they were making arrangements to get me to the best hospital and with the best doctors, fully in contact with them the entire trip. I KNEW they were going to make sure I would be ok!!
Kevin and his team care. Your happiness is their goal. You see and hear their passion. They go above and beyond - in fact they even arranged for a shop owner to open early to buy my son something very specific that is VERY hard to find (a crustal skull). They arranged yours in Lima on the back end of my trip which were amazing too. I left this trip once again feeling loved by the country, by my guides, by the whole team. I cannot speak highly enough of what a fantastic group this is who will ensure you have a customized unforgettable trip to Peru!
