- RupertW1090 contributionsThe most epic adventure of my lifeI completed the Advanced 15 Day Jungle Survival course on my own back in November 2024. It was the most epic adventure of my life, and one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences I’ve ever had. Amazon Explorers essentially make the most realistic, extreme jungle survival situations accessible. The course was a combination of army survival techniques with indigenous skills and knowledge, all delivered by experts who were incredible. Constantly battling heat, humidity and hunger whilst fully immersed in the jungle taught me resilience, resourcefulness, determination and mental / physical strength. I walked away with a deep sense of accomplishment and a wealth of practical survival skills. This was an awesome adventure... And the hot shower, food, bed and clean dry clothes when I got back to Iquitos were damn good. Thank you Tito, Angel, Dennis, Hector & Geilier.. Huge respect Rupert (29, England)Written 21 January 2025
- 644bertienb0 contributionsThe real dealUnforgettable experiences with Amazon Explorer to the Pacaya Samiria national park. I have had the privilege of going with Amazon Explorer to the Amazon rainforest three times, and each trip was unique and unforgettable. My adventure with Amazon Explorer in 2008 was a week full of discoveries. The guide was knowledgeable and passionate, allowing me to experience the jungle on a deeper level. We explored beautiful unspoiled areas, learned about unique flora and fauna, and learned about local culture. The accommodation was comfortable and the food delicious and authentic. This trip fueled my love for the Amazon.Written 2 November 2024
- 630romanb0 contributionsincredible experience with Hector and his Matses teamI have done many various expeditions in different outdoor conditions and very remote areas, so I did not have much expectations other then logistics, and organization, but I have found out that Hector (with his Matses team) is a true professional with really serious experiences in jungle. No matter for which trip one would like to go with him, I would not have a single concern about anything. He is responsible and very reliable about just anything you agree about or discuss together. Definitely would like to plan more trips with Hector and his crew, with even much less or none of the "touristic" kind of services, as I feel fully confident about what to expect from his planning, organization and logistic. He even helped us a lot to sort sort out other things and problems we faced outside of our program. Hector, big thanks for all my group and hope to plan and do again with you some other serious things in the future :-)Written 29 October 2024

- 862benedettom0 contributionsThe best experience of my likeThis was one of my best experience of my life. You can come in contact with local Matsés people in a very respectful way, no turistic at all. The organization was perfect, you can trust them. Really is an experience you will never forget. A lot of emotions and time to share with the local community. Hector and his staff is very helpful and respectful. They take care of you in every moment till the very end. - Paradise481395936560 contributionsAn experience never to be forgottenAmazon Explorer offers top quality. My partner and I booked the 15-day Wildlife Tracking Quest. All arrangements were met, from the hotel pick-up to the drop-off 15 days later. Hector ensures you lack nothing. No detail escapes him. And the team from the Matse tribe is incredible. It was an honor to witness their passion and expertise. The location deep in the Amazon is also unique. The program is entirely tailored to your own wishes. An experience never to be forgotten.Written 7 August 2024
- SteveSJR420 contributionsIncredible 8-Day Expedition to Indigenous Matses territoryI just returned from the 8-Day Expedition to Indigenous Matses territory, and it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Everything about this trip was incredible, thanks to Hector, Armando, Dennis, the other travelers and the Matses tribe. Hector, the owner, was fantastic. He made sure we were always well taken care of and was always available to help with anything we needed. His care and attention made a huge difference in our experience. Armando and Dennis, our guides, were exceptional. They had incredible knowledge of the jungle and the Matses language/culture. More importantly, they treated us like family. Their passion for the jungle and their work was obvious and made our trip even more special. Experiencing the Matses tribe is difficult to put into words due how incredible it was. They welcomed us warmly and made us feel like we were part of their community. We worked with them in their garden, went fishing, explored plant medicine, indulged i tobacco snuff, Kambo and spent evenings around the fire asking questions to the elders. Every experience was something I will hold close to my heart forever. Overall, this trip was a highlight of my LIFE. Hector, Armando, and Dennis made it unforgettable, and I now consider them friends. Also a big shout out to Edwin, the point of contact for trip organization. I have never experienced better costumer service. Edwin was incredible! If you have the chance to go on this expedition, do it—it will make your life!Written 6 August 2024
- KikeGR0 contributionsThe Best form to live te jungleAn impressive trip that far exceeded expectations. I don't think there are any opportunities like this left to be able to enter virgin lands and without a doubt the best way to experience the Amazon in your own skin. The team was a 10, all professional and guaranteeing the smooth running of the expedition all the time and the towns we visited were truly wonderful, I hope to be able to return soonWritten 3 July 2024
- Excursion582214017270 contributionsEveryday brought a story we will tell for a lifetimeWe went on a 15-day Wildlife Tracking trip with Amazon Explorer and it far surpassed our expectations. Founder and trip leader Hector inspires confidence through professionalism, a very welcome trait in an environment that can feel and be hostile to the uninitiated. He has carefully (over the last decades) put together a team that has a lot of passion and takes enjoyment in delivering you the ultimate experience. The guides, boat drivers and cook for this trip are all Matses tribe members that have unmatched jungle experience and knowledge. This part of the jungle is not a wildlife reserve and most certainly not a zoo. You will not just stumble upon animals. I believe we would have seen only a fraction of what we experienced if it was not for the Matses team. I will for example always fondly remember my first day in the jungle where I went on a little side quest with elder Armando (who you'll recognize by both his cheerful character and traditional face tattoo) trying to get near to a group of spider monkeys. I'll include the entry from my journal below so you can get an idea of how unique that felt. At the time I thought this day would be the single high point of our trip. Afterall, the water levels were still very high making moving and tracking on land difficult. But the team saw it as an opportunity to takes us further down river than ever before and thanks to them every single day brought its own unexpected story I will recount for a lifetime. I'm not going to lie, it was hard at times. You are in a very wild place after all. I remember after a week thinking it was going to be hard going another full week. The mosquitoes were barrable since we came prepared and were lucky when it came to our basecamps. But the constant heath and humidity mixed with camping, bathing and pooping in an inhospitable environment did take its toll. While great initially, even self-caught piranha loses its taste after the umpteenth serving. So make sure you set your expectations right and be ready to overcome a personal challenge before you decide to stay in the jungle for this long. Luckily we got spoiled. Since it was just the two of us the trip got catered to our every need. We even got a seperate ladies toilet (yes, I used it too...) with palm leave door and a bug-free branched flooring, and we made a rock-climbing training station for me on a rainy day using nothing but jungle materials. But what helped more than anything is that we had immediate trust in the team and learned so much about the jungle. I remember one of our last nights being out at night in the pitch dark jungle waiting for a tapir to show up (which it did, along with a porcupine and a caiman), feeling so at ease and relaxed. Thank you Armando, Hernan, Dennis, Mirsa and Elvin for an unforgettable experience. While we saw everything we wanted to see and more, I hope to one day come back. Side quest with Armando, one of many unforgettable moments: "Armando's pitch-perfect imitations of the monkey's call gets immediate replies and gives us a general direction to move in. He leads the way, wielding his machete with the finesse of samoerai wielding a katana. Rather than chopping, his precision strikes clear a narrow path for us to follow through the dense jungle. But it doesn't take long before we pick up pace and there is no more time to clear the thick undergrowth. Instead Armando uses the blade to point at the moving canopy, his precise directions leading my untrained eyes in the right direction. I see them! But the troop is moving rapidly and we have to run to keep up. Thorns are pricking through my long sleeves and the piercing grass is cutting my hands, but slowing down is the last thing I want to do now. My rushed movements jolts a rare-seen deer in to a panic and it sprints off, right in front of us. Armando smiles back but doesn't stop: his focus remains on the price ahead. All while avoiding the many branches and roots, I quickly point my camera's and zoom in to grab some pictures of a spider monkey in the distance. I already couldn't be happier but Armando encourages me to keep up and stay close. We run further and further, the jungle in my periphery turning into a green-brown blur. And then suddenly we stop and I can hear the jungle moving all around me. We are now standing in the middle of the troup and with much awe I watch (and film) some of the primates taking graceful swings. One of them looks back at me with a matched curiosity. I am stunned. As I regain my wits, the troop slowly recedes into the green labyrinth, Armando's smile radiates pride and joy. This man is not even sweating or panting, while my boots and clothes are drenched as I have just been the victim of a precision-strike rainstorm. But I couldn't be more grateful. As we walk back Armando points out the tracks of the deer we saw earlier, until something freezes him in his steps. I can't understand the Matses word he is saying, but he encourages me to take a picture of a seperate set of strongly defined prints. It is only when we get back to our translator that I find out we probably weren't the ones that startled the deer in the first place; what we just saw were a pair of fresh jaguar prints."Written 2 July 2024
- Maps285536746470 contributionsAmazon tourWhat an amazing experience we had! We arrived to Iquitos day before our amazon tour and we were picked up from the airport by Amazon explorers taxi driver. In hotel we had a pretalk about our tour and we had opportunity to ask any questions we had in mind. Our guide Rodrique handeled everything very well and we had feeling that we are in good hands. Local guide Herman new the forest like his own pockets. The walks in the forest were amazing and so informative, and boat drives were truly breathtaking. During our stay we had home cooked meals whitch were delicious. All in all we had this was great and authentic experience! Communication before and after tour worked really well.Written 17 May 2024

- olivercI4872FR0 contributionsJaguar Matses ConnectionHector, Dennis, and Armando not only made excellent tour guides but were extremely accommodating, informative, and professional throughout our entire adventure. Dennis and Armando are expert survivalists. They never ceased to amaze me with their diverse skill sets whenever we’d go out looking for animal tracks, building shelters, or shooting arrows with their primitive bows. Hector, the owner of the agency, was extremely thorough in informing me of what the trek would entail. Truly a life changing experience.Written 25 November 2023
- A6049XZseanc0 contributions15 Day Wildlife Search And Survival. This is the best group out there to truly experience the remote parts of the Amazon. Everything they do is real which was a requirement for me. Many of the other tour company's out there gave me tourist trap vibes. I was a solo traveler who was joining the 15 day wildlife Search and Survival training. There was a group of three people already signed up for the dates I was going, but they all canceled a week before the trip. With only me left on the trip I expected Amazon Explorer to cancel on me like many other tour company's have done when there is only one person booked for a tour. They instead worked out a discounted price which was very reasonable to me. A second traveler was then able to join in at the last minute. The tour was great! I expected that we would be roughing it for 15 days, but Amazon Explorer was still able to make things very comfortable. They were very flexible and always receptive to what me and the other traveler wanted to do. They learned we really wanted to see an Anaconda, and we did find one after some searching. I really only speak English, and they brought an English-Spanish translator for me at no extra cost. Despite our very remote location, there was no time where I ever felt unsafe. At the end of our trip, we got stuck for an extra day in Angamos which is a small town where we would take a little plane back to Iquitos. The weather took a turn for the worst and continued to look terrible. The flights out were constantly canceled. Our guides put a lot of effort into making us comfortable in Angamos while also trying to move mountains and get us on the next available plane. I definitely plan on going on another trip with Amazon Explorer in the future. I would recommend them to anyone looking for an adventure. When I try to explain my trip to coworkers, everyone's reaction is, "How do you even find a trip like this????" Honestly, the only reason I found them was through some hard digging on google. I'm glad I did find them though because there aren't any other tour groups out there like Amazon Explorer.Written 26 October 2022

My partner and I participated in the 3 Day Survival Program with Amazon Explorer. It was one of the strongest experiences of our lives, but we are super happy to have experienced the real jungle, not the tourist one made up of luxury lodges and animal "rescue" centers.
Thanks to Hector and Sergio for your passion, professionalism and kindness!
We will be back soon to participate in another expedition together!

We had a once-in-a-lifetime experience with Amazon Explorer traveling from the US, for an amazing adventure in Pacaya Samiria. The team of Hector - our survivor trainer, Rodrigo - our multilingual translator, and Lorenzo - our local guide, to name a few; were all exceptional and extremely professional - while we also spent so many exciting fun times together. We saw a large number of animals, the food and cooking was excellent, we understood the Amazon ecosystem better - and came back with a renewed respect of our fragile environment. Hector was so particular in tailoring the expedition to our needs and interests - constantly showing care for everyone's safety and well-being. We came back home with a lifetime of memories with too many adventures along the way to recount. All thanks to the amazing team at Amazon Explorer !

I can’t tell how amazed I am with this unique experience I had in the amazon jungle by my friends Hector, owner of Amazon Explorer and Sergio the jungle native instructor. I had the opportunity to learn from this two jungle skilled trainers and I could achieve many important information about what are the steps to be able to survive in the rain forest and what to do in case I get lost in the heart of the jungle.
Hector, Sergio and his family treated me really well and were very kind.
