- borisj8490 contributionsGreat experience! This was my first time in Lima and Peru. I didn't know much about the city so I've decided to take a tour hoping I will learn something about this place. Luckily, I had a great person to guide this tour. JJ is knowledgeable, smart, easy to understand and he was telling us stories in Spanish and English and I find that amazing! He showed us places of cultural and historical importance and I've enjoyed every minute of it. Highly recommend this tour and JJ as your tour guide. Thank you!Written 11 December 2024
- 761dmitrik0 contributionsPleasant walkI would like to thank Gabriela for being an extra attentive and knowledgable guide. She made extra efforts to make sure that everyone got their questions answered and she provided very good and useful information. Having said that, I would like to differentiate between the guide and the tour itself. The tour is advertised to last 3.5 hours. We started at 9:30 and ended at 11:30, which is 2 hours. People were not rushed, while walking, and this is a great things but I feel that more could be covered. Also, the stops at at a chocolate shop for tasting and at a pisco place for tasting were, in my opinion, not essential to the tour. No one pressured us to buy things, however, this time could have been used for something else: history, sightseeing, etc. There could have been more info on the history of the city, not just a pleasant walk. Therefore, I put 4 stars, and not 5.Written 10 December 2024

- SokhSabay0 contributionsGreat hands on experience into Peruvian cuisine and culture! We had an amazing time with Gabriela and chef Ruth. They were so knowledgeable about Peruvian cuisine and culture! The cooking experience was so fun and it was awesome that we got to have first hand experience making popular Peruvian cuisine. What I really liked about this experience was that we all voted on different appetizers and main courses and normally majority vote would be the winner, but Gaby and chef Ruth went above and beyond and let us make what we wanted to make! I thought that was amazing. This experience is a great one to do if you're in Lima and it's nice to enjoy a nice hearty meal that everyone made together with great company.Written 7 December 2024
- J M0 contributionsWorry-free transfers from airport to Lima hotel.I was in touch with Stefano from Haku Tours about my arrivals and departures. He did a terrific job keeping everything organized. I arrived in Lima first, then went to Cusco, then back to Lima before flying out of Peru. All four transfers were provided by Haku Tours. Each and every time I arrived, the driver was already waiting for me. During pick up from the hotel (to go to the airport), drivers arrived earlier than the appointed time. All the drivers were friendly, courteous and professional. The rides were all smooth and I felt very safe. Highly recommended for transfers in Lima.Written 7 December 2024
- J M0 contributionsAdmiring Old City of LimaI had a great time doing this walking tour of the city, visiting historical landmarks and monuments. Unfortunately I could not remember the name of my able guide (who is in one of the pictures). He was very nice and knowledgeable. I was picked up promptly from my hotel. After picking up a couple more participants, we were brought to the City center of Lima where we got to admire many important landmarks. The guide would explain to us these different places we went to. We even had a free Spanish churro that tasted really good! For me the highlight was the visit to the San Francisco Monastery with its underground cemetery. This tour is highly recommended.Written 7 December 2024
- J M0 contributionsTouring four beautiful neighborhoods of LimaI was fortunate to do this tour with my able guide Aaron, who was knowledgeable, friendly and jolly. I was promptly picked up from my hotel in Miraflores. We did a walking tour of a park in Miraflores then walked towards the coastal road. We had coffee while admiring the stunning view of the coast. Then by car we drove to Chorrillos. We did a quick stop at a restaurant for its equally stunning view of the ocean. After this we proceeded to Barranco, an artsy neighborhood that I absolutely loved. I even got to cross the Bridge of Sigh while holding my breath in the hope that my wish would come true. Lastly we drove to a market in Surquillo, where I got to sample some of Lima’s tastiest fruits. Afterwards, I was dropped off in my hotel. I immensely enjoyed this tour and would highly recommend it, especially to first time visitors with limited time in Lima.Written 5 December 2024
- Mat W0 contributionsLima Tour!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Gabriela was amazing! Very informative. She answered all of my random questions, and I did not feel rushed at all. I did the Lima city tour, which included a walk around the various churches and city center. It was a small group with one other person. She made sure we understood the "who, what, when, where, and why". From the timeline of the earthquakes to the Peruvian dessert and to the history of the catacombs, she made sure that it was a breeze. I recommend Gabriela for your tour in the city! Thank you!Written 4 December 2024

- Paul T0 contributionsA must see experience in Lima! This evening I did the Magic Water Circuit Show and was so glad I did. I was so lucky to have Aaron as my tour guide. He made the tour very special for me. Aaron is so knowledgeable about Lima and he gave me great recommendations. He continuously checked in with me during the tour to make sure I was comfortable and understood what we were seeing. This to me is the sign of a great tour guide who not only enjoys his job but goes the extra mile for his customers. He was very patient with me about taking various photos of me while at the park. A good tour guide makes or breaks an experience and Aaron went above and beyond. I highly recommend this tour. Thanks Aaron!Written 28 November 2024

I wanted to safely see the less touristy side of Lima (and Peruvian life generally,) and I really think this tour was perfect for that. It gave me so much perspective into how life is for so many Peruvians.
My guide was amazing. You could tell he was familiar with this community, and the community knew and trusted him. He always made me feel safe, particularly when we were passing by guard dogs outside some of the houses.
I felt like the locals were very real with me and seriously helped widen my perspective on so many things. The guide is a great translator and you don't have to know any Spanish (he told me a majority of the people who take this tour don't speak Spanish,) but if you do know Spanish be sure to tell him. He'll pass it on to the locals and they'll be super excited to chat with you.
Expect to have a lot of different fruits and other foods introduced to you at the market. And don't chew the seeds of the passion and egg fruits, you're supposed to literally try to drink/slurp it.
COVID note: this is a very poor community and sometimes you're literally walking up into people's homes and/or backyards, so don't expect everyone you encounter to be masked. In the market and a lot of more public areas everyone was, but definitely not in some of the more private/residential areas.

We had a great experience with Philippe on our tour of the Villa El Salvador district. Learned so much about the everyday life of those living in this shantytown. We had the pleasure of meeting several residents who graciously welcomed us. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to see how the majority of Lima residents live.

It was wonderful to share with you Patrick, for our Haku Family its so important to show this part of Lima city. Many people think that Lima is just Miraflores, Barranco or the Main Square, but the aim of this experience is to show and interact with thiis wonderful families. Good to know that the 70% of Lima is covered in Shanty towns.
Your intention to work with the community teaching English tells a lot about you, we appreciate your company and kindness and still remember you and we are looking forward to meet again!
Thanks a lot!

This tours provides an informative and very educational look into shanty town daily life featuring the people, their homes, markets, and animals. Featured on our tour was a market, any number of homes, a community soup kitchen, a community garden, a school/library, and (by chance) a metalsmith's studio. The tenacity, creativeness and ingenuity of the Peruvian people living there was astounding. Their warmth and compassion for the others in their community was made readily apparent. Mabel (our tour leader) was exceptional as our guide and interpreter. She set the tone early and gave us insight into any number of relevant topics in this world few foreigners will have a chance to experience. Our driver (sorry terrible with names) was a master of Lima's street and it's interesting drivers. Most importantly, he delivered us from location to location safely. I most highly recommend this tour, the Haku company and Mabel as your guide. Your eyes will be opened. Guaranteed you will appreciate your life all much more.

Although we were concerned that there may be a lack of sensitivity in choosing this tour, we were overwhelmed by how wonderful it was. We had a private tour with Stefano and met wonderful people in the marketplace, who were delighted to visit with us, and we also met an amazing woman who was responsible for creating and managing a soup kitchen. We learned about the challenges in this neighborhood caused by the pandemic and about many of the real problems they face. All of this during breakfast graciously served in the very simple home of this family. The tour was conducted with every attention to sensitivity and safety, and we cannot recommend it highly enough. Stefano was the perfect guide and himself lived in a similar neighborhood.

We spent two days with Edwin from Haku Tours. The first day we saw the “nicer’ sides of Lima and the second day was the Pyramids and Shanty Town tour. The Shanty town tour was eye opening! Edwin first took us to the market in the Shanty Town and then onto a one room school in the area, run by volunteer mothers. The children performed a Xmas song for us and we performed one for them. The soup kitchen was right next door and we all made some purchases at a little grocery store for additional supplies for the kitchen. Edwin was so informative about life in a Shanty Town and appreciative of our support. Highly recommend this tour!!!!

The Shantytown tour was one of the most unique, amazing, beautiful things I’ve ever done in my life. Definitely for the curious minded traveler who enjoys learning from locals. Edwin, our guide, was just wonderful. I can’t thank him enough for this unforgettable experience. He even booked a car to the airport for my two friends and I after the tour. He was knowledgeable, warm, and funny, and I look forward to seeing him the next time I come to Lima and book this exact tour once again.

This was one of the most educational tours I have ever taken. It shined a light onto a side of the Peruvian life that not many people are aware of. It provided insight and meaning and was the best way I could have ended my trip. The tour guide and members of the community were friendly, giving, and interested in sharing their stories and learning about mine. Highly recommended.

Hi there, you should be ok but ask first. We have a few photos but mostly of the out look. This is a wonderful experence, sometimes experence is better than a photo.

Is it ok to take photos? I would ask individuals for permission of course but don’t want to be disrespectful..
