About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- cmontel0 contributionsConnections to Candombe drum teachersAlberto made it possible for me to study Candombe drumming during my week in Montevideo. He was able to schedule a lesson with master drummer Alvaro Calas, for the very next morning after I emailed him. Communication with Alberto was convenient; he met me at the bus stop and walked me to Mundo Afro. He attended the first lesson. The lesson was fantastic, so I decided to take several more drumming lessons with Alvaro during my week. Alberto let me book these independently with Alvaro, since I could understand and communicate in Spanish. These lessons were unforgettable, and I hope to study more with Alvaro in the future.Written 26 November 2019
- FredDoyle0 contributionsTerrific tourAlberto really knows his adopted city. He was more than able to answer our questions about Uruguayan history, customs and quirks. The afternoon felt like hanging out with a friend.Written 4 March 2014
- CelinePerrot0 contributionsSuch a friendly guide!Alberto is a very good guide who knows Montevideo very well. He is very friendly and his English is perfect. He is very patient and will do whatever you want to do or to visit in the city. He took us to the local feria (market) on Sunday where we would never have gone without him. It was really pleasant to feel secure , walking all over the city with a local person. Great souvenir!Written 17 July 2012

- tonymayes0 contributionsOne of a kind!I went to visit my mother who has retired to Montevideo. I met Alberto at a social gathering, and a week later we decided to meet up, have a beer, whatever...We ended up in Penarol (WAY off the beaten-path), and it was simply a delight. The entire experience from my front door, out and back again brought a whole new meaning to my trip! LOOK HIM UP!!!Written 8 April 2012
- cfmgomes0 contributionsA very good walk in the cityFor a small amount of money or even for free you can see and learn about the heart of city of Montevideo. This walk around the city is must for anyone who want to know about the good locations in the city. Don't forget to ask anything you want about the city, I am sure Alberto will be glad to help. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our private guided walking tour of this fascinating city. Alberto is a knowledgeable and very personable guide who speaks excellent English. We booked the tour online to coincide with our day in port during a cruise. Alberto provided us with clear directions to the meeting place near the cruise terminal and was waiting for us at the agreed time. Over the course of a couple of hours or so walking we visited all of the interesting locations learning about the history and culture of this fascinating city. He was happy to answer all of our questions and he gave us an insider's view of life in the city which is his home. Excellent value for money.

We did this tour back in November and we had a wonderful afternoon. Alberto is a very pleasant, fascinating , passionate and knowledgable guide. He met us at our hotel in the Cuidad Vieja section of the city and as we walked around the old neighborhood, he showed us so many interesting things that we would have never noticed without him. He had a wealth of information both on historical Montevideo as well as on the city's current affairs. I highly recommend this private walking tour when visiting Montevideo, especially if you are staying in the Cuidad Vieja neighborhood.

We had a lovely morning strolling through the city of Ciudad Vieja with our friendly, knowledge, wonderful guide, Alberto. We learned so much about the history of the city, plus we went at a comfortable pace that allowed us to visit and linger at the sites of most interest to us. I certainly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to get a feel for the area and all that it has to offer.

We met our tour guide only a few blocks from the cruise port. Alberto was friendly and personable. He was a great communicator and answered all our questions, weeks prior to the tour. He is fluent in English and Spanish. We were a party of 3 and experienced a wonderful leisurely walking tour. We explored the interesting architecture of the town. He provided historical content to both the old and modern buildings that we were viewing. He spoke about the current trends in Uruguay. During our cruise we had selected 3 tours and this one was our favorite.

Alberto helped us see the city in a light we didn’t really expect. His tour was well structured and adjusted to our needs. His knowledge of the history of the city, as well as the Uruguayan nation is impressive. He left no question unanswered.
We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the city.

I live in Montevideo, and have for a couple of years. I loved walking through Ciudad Vieja and looking at all the gorgeous old buildings but I wasn't sure (other than a few obvious ones like the old post office) exactly what I was looking at. A friend and I took the tour one afternoon and were really pleased with what we learned.
Alberto (tour guide) is very knowledgeable about the city as well as its history and its historic buildings. He is also a very pleasant person. It's a great way to get to know the stories behind all the beautiful old buildings you see while you walk through the old city. By the way, he speaks English as well as Spanish.
There is normally a charge for the tour, but I believe he also gives a free tour on Fridays around 3:00 p.m. If you sample that tour, you may want to arrange another one. We're planning on taking another one of his tours through a nearby neighborhood.

I found this walking tour to be average, since Alberto, the guide (who is a very nice person by the way), did not seem very excited about it, spoke with a low tone voice and kept forgetting to tell the dates of historic events. Besides that there was not much context to the explanations, which were a little brief.

When you visited, the area we toured before going to la Ciudad Vieja is called el Prado which is rich in history from Montevideo's glamorous past. I'm sorry I did not tell enough stories of the mansions that line the streets of the neighborhood. Your comments serve as a reminder for me to project my voice. Thank you!

Thanks Alberto for a fantastic tour today. I got my own private tour and had the best time in my drumming lesson! Alberto is very hospitable and knowledgeable. Stumbled across International Day of Uruguayan Candombe which included drumming and dancing and lots of colour. Highly recommend this tour / company!

If you are on a cruise, this is a great tour to take, as Alberto meets you just a 5 minute walk from the port area and most of the walking is in the area. He was great about answering emails promptly and providing information. My husband isn't a very good tourist so walking with him was more like being with a friend than a professional tour guide, spewing out facts.
We took his "Classic Cafés and Bars" tour which he is still working on perfecting. There was some confusion about the price as currently it's $25USD on his website, but we paid $40 and its very understandable as he pays for all the food tasting along the way plus mineral water; so its a good value.
We had a great walking tour of the city with 3 restaurants along the way. Loved La Petitie Cuisine and certainly would return there for a full lunch, should I return to Montevideo. The small tasting menu was perfect and the timing good. Our second restaurant was Bar Hispano; a typical non tourist tapas bar and restaurant. We must have had 25 small tasting dishes placed in front of us, most with heavy Italian influence; pastas, farinata, pizza and lots of fried foods, petite ham sandwiches and sweets. Not my favorite type of food, but certainly a genuine experience. From there I think the tour went a little astray...we took a bus to the University area for typical grilled meats but I think I would have preferred stopping at the Mercado del Puerto for the quintessential lunch with parrillas…grilled beef. We waited a long time for the food to be served and I was anxious to get back to the port area. The tour was a bit longer than expected.
Alberto is a very enterprising young man so I am sure he will work out some of the details of this tour. He would benefit by settling on three specific restaurants at specific times so the food is pre-picked by him and ready for the group's arrival. This would make the most of tourist's limited time in the city. The tour has lots of potential and I'm sure Alberto will have it streamlined soon! Great effort and I highly recommend a trip around town with him.

I really enjoyed my tour with Alberto. I learned a lot about the city that I wouldn't have on my own. This tour was a great way to see the all the highlights of the city, and is perfect for traveller's with limited time. Part of the 'Shore Excursion' was also a Candomble drum lesson, which was awesome! I definitely recommend this tour for traveller's looking to learn more about Montevideo instead of just wandering around.
