Stop: 9 hours - Admission included
For lots of fun under the sun, you can't beat a day at South Sea Island. A day trip to South Sea Island is an easy 30 minute ferry ride from Denarau Marina with South Sea Cruises. It may be small in size, but there is plenty to keep you entertained. The hardest part is choosing what to do first! There is a salt water swimming pool and FREE use of non-motorized water sports equipment, including kayaking and sailing. Discover the underwater world with hours of snorkelling or if you want to stay dry, jump on board the semi-submersible coral viewer. Make sure you keep an eye out for Nemo! A tasty BBQ buffet lunch and beer, wine and soft drinks are included while ashore. Although the island is uninhabited, you can still get a taste of Fijian culture with a traditional Meke performance and craft market Monday to Saturday. Introductory diving (additional cost) is a particular focus on this island with pretty reef formations and plentiful fish making it a first time diver's dream. Start in the pool and then explore the stunning coral gardens and the fish life surrounding the island on a 'Discover Scuba' intro dive. There is also plenty to keep certified divers amused, with several beach dives and a purposefully sunk shipwreck. Diving in this area you can encounter drop offs and wall dives with lots of hard corals, crystal clear water & large schools of pelagic fish.

it was fun, but not really greatest of experience
May 2019
This is a small island which accommodates limited number of people at a time, the package for day tour included kayaking, snorkelling, lunch and unlimited beverages at the island. The snorkelling equipment on offer were just kept in a tub with soap water shared among visitors (you might as well take one along instead of borrowing that) and given the crowd they were well short of kayaks as well. They didn't have any vegetarian option in lunch menu (apart from fruits, salads and of course rice) and neither they had the an option to opt it out from package so it felt a bit expensive at that price (Other options like Malamala beach club had that).
I think they need to raise their standards & quality of service given the cost for single tour.

Thanks for your review. Our package includes the use of water sports equipment during the day. Not all equipment will be available at all times of the day. You are correct in saying that the buffet BBQ does not have any vegetarian options but there is a huge range of hearty and filling salads but we will investigate some vegetarian alternates for the BBQ. Disregard for safety, BBQ food terrible, island facilities dilapidated
Mar 2020
It’s well organised with slick on time departure/arrival at South Sea Island. There is a briefing on the activities on arrival South Sea Island but you need to be ready to go ‘cos we missed the 1st submarine ride and didn’t see the 2nd one loading up so we missed it. We did get on the guided snorkelling trip (best take your own gear, what’s on offer is pretty crap) but the wind and the weather had got up and we just went a little way off the main beach. It should have been stopped for health and safety reasons as we with others, had to fight our way back to the boat exhausted in a one metre swell. All 3 crew had to get into the water to help people get back (the boat was anchored). We were knackered when we got back on board as were many others. Not clever – beware! Incidentally there was nothing to see on the seabed anyway, just a dead reef! They have fresh water showers which was great so we showered and then had lunch. The salads were great, the bread was fresh but the BBQ meat was inedible, the fish overcooked and the chicken thighs just OK. It’s cheap and cheerful stuff and the soft drinks, beer and wine are free. The loud speaker system didn’t really work and the whole place looked like the BBQ food, cheap and cheerful and dilapidated. We left at 12.45 and did the island tour and was back in Port Denarau by 3pm. The tour was interesting (and out of the sun!) but the seas were running high and the Captain ploughed on though, keeping to schedule, with some pretty green passengers onboard. The morning was long enough for us on the island and I’m not sure if I would do it again. The snorkelling experience with the disregard for folks safety is a very bad memory.

Thank you for your review. We have taken on board your feedback regarding the quality of the BBQ and the reach of the loudspeaker system around the island (depending on the wind, this can be hard to hear upwind of the speakers) and sorry that you felt the snorkeling trip was beyond your ability but we do recommend that people are strong swimmers to go on the outer reef trip. Half day was plenty with young kids

We did the half day afternoon cruise and it was plenty with a young family. The kids loved the bottomless ‘submarine’ and having a small pool on the island was good for the kids. Snorkelling was good fun and you have access to the kayaks too.

Why bother you’re much better off staying on Denerau island and enjoying the multitude of great restaurants there then taking a day trip out onto an island to eat and overpriced underwhelming barbecue seriously guys and what would you pay that sort of money for a barbecue. Go and find a nice restaurant in the Westin, The Raddison, or Sheraton and you’ll be much better off

Sorry, you did not enjoy your day cruise. Although those resorts are wonderful, being able to swim in the crystal clear ocean on one of the day cruise islands is always a pleasure. Should you come back to Fiji in the future come and see us and we can recommend a day cruise (there are so many to choose from) to suit your needs and expectations. A day on a Desert Island
Jan 2020
A well organised day trip to a tiny island. From pick up to check, in to arrival on Southsea Island, we were looked after and travelled in comfort on the air conditioned catamaran. Once there it was a case of find a sunbed and decide which of the free activities you fancied doing during the day. We snorkelled and kayaked, the sea was warm and calm which was ideal for these activities and for swimming in the clear water.
Drinks were free and lunch was a substantial affair consisting of chicken, sausages and fish, served with a variety of salads and bread rolls. We were treated to a display of singing and dancing during lunch which was a nice touch. We had booked to leave at 5.30 but had had enough by 4 and so caught the earlier boat back to the port.
We both had a great day and would recommend this tour to all travellers.

Choose over others
Chose this tour as we didn’t want to have to get on and off at other islands throughout the trip which now we are glad we didn’t as it would’ve felt rushed and wouldn’t have been able to enjoy the island. The ferry stops at Malamala Island beach club and drops their guests off first but after reading reviews and seeing how many people got off there we are glad we went with South Sea. The staff are all happy and friendly, bbq lunch was yum plus with the open bar was a bonus, plenty of water sports to use and the underwater boat is a must. Would definitely recommend this island over others, great for all group types had the best day.

A great day out & 10/10 for value
Jan 2020 • Couples
SSI is a great day out and 10/10 value for money (even if you book it through Australia which I wouldn’t recommend, much cheaper in Fiji itself). When you arrive to the island you are boated in and instantly realise how purely beautiful the island is.

Snorkelling is a must and equipment is included (win!). After a full hour at sea, we returned for an authentic Fijian lunch with included beverages package (another win!).

Then you have the rest of the day to chill on the island, continue snorkelling off the island or walk around. The best part, basically everything is included with some options to buy cocktails, ice creams etc outside the package.

As always, people were amazing and definitely would recommend SSI to couple, family’s or first time Fiji explorers 🤗

Always a great afternoon.
Jan 2020
I do the Half day trip to South Sea Island every year and I never get tired of it. What a wonderful afternoon and only a 30 minute trip from Denarau. You arrive, the wonderful staff advise of you of your options for the afternoon, you have a great buffet bar-b-q lunch and then the rest of the day is yours to relax and swim (as I do) or to take part in the activities on offer. Clear blue water, always beach chairs available as the morning tour guests have departed, and an open bar. What more could you want? All of this is included in the one price. I cannot understand why anyone could complain? I love every moment I am there and the fact that it hasn't changed means I will be sure to go back. Thankyou for providing this wonderful afternoon which includes pick-up and drop-off at your accommodation. South Sea Island is Fiji tourism at it's best.

Half day trip to South Sea island
Booked half day trip leaving at 8:45 and return 12:30 as per schedule keeping mind 30 minute travel time each expecting to get a few hours snorkeling cost AUD 230 for 2 adults.

Dissatisfied we arrived on island at 9:30 advised to do the submarine at 10am for 20 mins or so but when we got back no snorkels available by the time snorkels came back we had only 10 minutes to snorkel then had to get ready for boat to depart back at 11:15 then waited 30 minutes on the small dinghy in the ocean waiting for boat to pick us up at 12. All in all we spent 90 minutes on island to do snorkeling no time to utilise complimentary drinks because busy waiting and chasing snorkel equipment.

Would suggest spending extra dollars and do full day trip.

Definitely not worth the money for half day trip waste of money.
