About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- LHLi0 contributionsWell organised and professional toursWe did 2 transfer tours, a day tour and walking tour of Sarajevo with Funky tours. The coordinators are all helpful and prompt in responding to our queries which we greatly appreciate. The tours were well planned and we were able to cover many sights within the day despite the short days during the winter season. All the tour guides assigned to us (Adnan, Ajla, Doris and Stefan) were very professional and took great care of us during the tour. We learnt a lot about the history of the country through their engaging sharing. They were also open about sharing their personal / family experiences during the Bosnian war helped to shed a a lot of misperceptions about this beautiful country. If we visit Eastern Europe again in future, we will definitely engage their services again cos we know we will be in good hands of the professional team.Written 23 November 2024
- 764ianr0 contributionsFirst time to B+HWe were looking for things to do and opted for the wine tour with Funky Tours. We travelled from Sarajevo and as a result of the railway line being out the train wasn't running. We arranged with them for two transfers Sarajevo To Mostar and then Mostar to Sarajevo with our tour sandwiched in the middle. Our tour guide Ajla (Isla) met us at the hotel along with the driver, they had selected 3 x local winery tours near to Mostar. The afternoon was fantastic with the weather helping to compliment the wine and local food. This was a slow and enjoyable afternoon with both Ajla and the staff at the locations we visited guiding us through our tasting. Also trying some of the spirits brewed at the winery's helped lubricate the afternoon. Both the journey to and from Mostar were leisurely and enjoyable with our drivers Humza and Tariq being very knowledgeable sharing their experience in living in Sarajevo through the war. I would recommend Funk Tours if you are looking to do small group guided tours. We were a group of 6 and the transport was comfortable for our journeys and tour. We had intended to make use of the train but wasn't able to do so, the guys in the office were able to help and will try and facilitate most of your requests to meet your needs. I will consider you again when i return, thank you for making a first trip to B+H an enjoyable one. Kind regards John, Byron, Peter, Grant, Phil and Jim.Written 15 November 2024
- Arb780 contributionsUnique access to multiple sites (not just the town of Srebrenica), passionate and knowledge tour guide, easy logistics)I did the full-day Srebrenica tour with Amar. If you’re like me, you’re maybe hesitant about booking a full day tour on genocide, but it was one of the best choices I’ve made on a trip. Amar was incredibly knowledgeable, but in a way that went well beyond what you can read about Srebrenica in books or online. He talked about the Bosnian political system and the relationship between Republika Srprska and the rest of the country, discussed his own trek across the mountains near Potoćari (as part of a memorial for the men who fled across those same mountains), discussed why certain graves were recently “excavated” or exhumed, and pointed out parts of the actual town of Srebrenica that were once thriving. He also gave us plenty of time on our own, which was important to me at a place like Srebrenica which requires some reflection. Fascinating and informative tour, a passionate tour guide, and incredibly easy logistics.Written 15 November 2024
- Happycamper652y0 contributionsAwesomeFascinating trip into Serbia, the guide Senad was awesome and had much information to share. The ride was long and some of the “ sites” were mediocre but well worth it to travel and explore the geographic location and to see my 51 st country bi highly recommend this tour!Written 10 November 2024
- juzzypoop0 contributionsPrecious stories of lived experiences during the siege! My mom and I took this tour with Mustapha and we learned so much from him! It was amazing to hear about the siege of Sarajevo from the viewpoint of someone who had actually lived through it. The stories of the time really came alive and we are so grateful that these precious (and difficult!) stories were shared with us. It is a gift. There was also a mix up with the tour we had booked when we were first picked up in the morning but the Funky Tours staff handled it with such grace and care. At the time, my mom also had a leg injury and was moving with a lot of pain. Mustapha was very kind and thoughtful and found alternatives for my mom to make the tour easier for her.Written 5 November 2024
- juzzypoop0 contributionsKnowledgeable and thoughtful guides! My mom and I took this tour with Ayla and had just the most wonderful day. We were amazed by her knowledge and really appreciated learning from her. It was a private tour so we had the chance to take our time and really experience the sights as we wanted and needed. At the time, my mom also had a leg injury and was moving with a lot of pain. Ayla was very kind and thoughtful and tried to find routes to make the tour easier for her. That thoughtfulness really went such a long way!Written 5 November 2024
- juzzypoop0 contributionsPowerful, necessary, and urgent. It's strange to say but this tour was the highlight of my trip to Bosnia & Herzegovina. It revealed such an important part of Bosnia's modern history that we cannot ignore and must never forget. Our tour guide, Adnan, was amazing and full of so much knowledge. Having lived through the siege of Sarajevo himself, he was able to provide such a rich and powerful perspective. I learned so much from him that I will never forget! I also greatly appreciated the lunch that Funky Tours organized with the local family in Potočari. It was very special to be able to make that local connection! In my opinion, you cannot visit Bosnia without doing the Srebrenica tour with Funky Tours. It is essential not just for understanding history, but even in understanding the genocides that are happening this very day.Written 5 November 2024
- 485anneh0 contributionsHighly recommendedWhat an incredible morning this was. Our guide Adnan fought in the war, worked with the UN afterwards and is still to this day involved in current conflicts as a political scientist. We both had some knowledge of the Siege of Sarajevo but his insight and method of delivery brought all the events to life. It’s a long 4 hours so take some water and it can get cold in the mountains. Please book this tour if you are in SarajevoWritten 5 November 2024
- Trip421042259500 contributionsTHE BEST WAY TO SEE CROATIA AND THE AMAZING HIDDEN GEMS!I had the MOST INCREDIBLE experience with Funky Tours. I did the Croatia sailing and it was amazing to see so many hidden gems and national parks. The yacht was EXTREMELY luxurious, the crew was awesome and the food was refreshing and delicious. My favorite part was being able to snorkel and get fresh oysters delivered boatside. Would highly recommend anyone and everyone to do the Croatia sailing tour. It is the BEST WAY TO see Croatia!Written 4 November 2024
- GoPlaces098342147690 contributionsDream sailing cruise around Croatian islands!I had the incredible opportunity to take a 4-day catamaran cruise around Croatia with Funky Tours, and it was nothing short of extraordinary! As a full-time traveler, it’s rare for something to truly take my breath away, but this experience did exactly that. My friend and I are still raving about it! From the moment we boarded the sleek, modern catamaran, we were welcomed by our captain and skipper and shown to our cozy cabins. With only four cabins on board, the cruise felt intimate, allowing for a maximum of 8 guests. We shared the journey with three amazing women from London on a birthday getaway, which made it even more memorable and fun! Every morning, the captain served up an amazing breakfast, and lunch in the afternoons was equally delicious—you’d swear he was a professional chef! The highlights? Visiting untouched islands and stunning national parks, swimming in some of the clearest waters I’ve ever seen, and an unforgettable stop at an oyster farm where freshly shucked oysters were delivered to us by boat right from the farm! This trip was truly an unbeatable value, and I’m already looking forward to exploring more Funky Tours adventures for future travels!Written 3 November 2024
- melanial1160 contributionsPeace of mind exploring beautiful placesI participated in a catamaran trip in Croatia organized by Funky Tours and my experience was great: excellent responsiveness during the planning and reservation process, and professionality both prior and during the tour. The experience of sailing the catamaran was amazing, visiting beautiful spots in the Kornati Archipelago and Kkra National Park that are off the beaten track. The skipper was experienced and the host was thoughtful, professional and friendly. I loved the freshly cooked food on board. As a solo traveler, I felt safe and in good hands. Would definitely recommend the catamaran experience with Funky tours and hope to try other tours offered by them.Written 30 October 2024
- amandad370 contributionsInformative and moving experiencesI booked two tours with Funky Tours as a solo traveller keen to experience the history, culture and natural scenery of Bosnia and Herzegovina. I did the Mostar and Four Cities Tour (including Kravice Waterfalls) followed by the Siege of Sarajevo and Tito's Bunker tour. Both were wonderful, informative, moving experiences. On both days we travelled in a small group and managed to see everything on the itinerary. The guides for both tours were excellent and had their own personal, moving stories to tell about living through the war. Bosnia and Herzegovina is a beautiful country with a fascinating history and a bright future ahead. Personal highlights were swimming at Kravice Waterfalls (although this was quite short due to time constraints) and the incredible Cold War timewarp into Tito's Bunker. I would definitely travel with Funky Tours again.Written 29 October 2024
- vivitron0 contributionsA Must in BosniaIt isn't easy to write a review for this experience. The horror of what the Bosnian Serbs did to the Bosniak population is almost impossible to get your head around. However, going on this tour was a vital part of my experience visiting this country. We left Sarajevo and traveled through the beauty of the Bosnian mountains to arrive in Srebrenica. Our guide, Edo, was the key to aiding our understanding as we approached. He is a veteran of the war and through sharing his experience and his knowledge we were able to have a clearer view of the situation as well as understand the difficult truth that many Serbs still deny what they did during the war. The museum is very well done and the guide didn't shy away from the subject matter. It was difficult but necessary and I must add that as you go through the space and learn about all that happened you appreciate the work that has gone into providing you with this unforgetable experience. We then had a delicious lunch with a family that survived the genocide. The graciousness with which they welcomed us into their home, the openness with which they answered our clumsy questions and the strength they showed to open themselves up to strangers - well, there are no words to describe it. Finally, we went to the cemetery. It is the only time I've been to a cemetery where every grave is marked with the same year. It had a profound effect on our entire group. This is a must if you visit Bosnia. If you are undecided please don't be. Book this tour and go. You will never forget it and you will not understand this country unless you do. Is this a carefree day trip? No. Is it worth every penny? Absolutely!Written 28 October 2024
- 471harveyc0 contributionsThe beauty of Bosnia and Herzegovina is unique and unforgettable. The Funky Tour experience is the best of bestEma and the Funky Tours team were extremely helpful in our planning. Ema was always go the extra mile to ensure we got all the info we needed. Our trip from Sarajevo to Kotor Bay was amazing and truly memorable. The landscape was so beautiful and our guide Ammar was outstanding - he was passionate, informative, engaging and entertaining. Our trip experiences were much beyond exceptional and we truly believe that because Funky tour did everything from their heart. All the way it was so fun, beautiful, well plan and relax, we felt like taking a family trip, not joining a tour. We have visited many countries in Europe, the beauty of Bosnia and Herzegovina is very unique, stunning and unforgettable. Our trip experiences with the Funky Tour was far beyond our expectations. Almir was an amazing guide on our Srebrenica tour in February. He was a great guide and embodies a type of kindness that can be found in the Balkans. Everything in the tour was smooth and thought provoking as we went to learn more about one of the darkest chapters in European history. I would highly recommend this tour and Almir, in particular.

I did the Srebrenica tour and Siege tour with Almir. Ask for Almir when you do these tours. What a guy! Well read, professional, on time and last but not least: very funny.
But I have to thank all the staff I had contact with (Nadira, Ema, Skender) they helped me a lot with fixing the tours on a very short notice. Hvala!
I will spread the word about Bosnia and Funky Tours!

It was a wonderful experience! Our guide was Almir and he was the best. He told us all about the war, both history and personal stories. Srebrenica is a key moment in this regions history and Im so glad I got to go, have an amazing lunch with a local family and see the memorial. I would 10000% recommend!!!

This review is long overdue. Funky Tours is a catchy but misleading name. The company is absolutely not funky. Rather, it is a service and client-oriented top rate travel agency that cares about the needs and goals of its clients.
My husband I learned so much from their knowledgeable guides multiple private tours from Ljubljana through Croatia to Sarajevo, Mostar and numerous area sites. We could write a treatise on all we learned about the history and wars of the Balkans, including political and religious perspectives. We were very pleased with the planning service, guides, and the warm friendliness offered by Ema and company. I wish we could return. I highly recommend this agency.

This tour was phenomenal. Almir was a great guide and gave me a thorough rundown of the history that led up to the genocide at Srebrenica and made sure to show me the often-forgotten places that told Srebrenica's story as we passed through them.
When we got to the memorial center, he gave me ample time to explore the incredibly detailed and thoughtful museum while also offering a first-hand view on what the war was like. I really appreciated the depth of personal stories that he was willing to share with me and felt honored that I could learn about this tragedy from such a remarkable man. The memorial center itself was emotional and very well done.
Visiting locals was another highlight of this trip. The family who hosted me were kind and welcoming, and they made me feel right at home.
I highly recommend this tour--and Funky Tours in general--if you want to have a deeper understanding of the Bosnian genocide and a more complete picture of this beautiful country.

We went on the tour of Srebrenica with an absolutely well organised tour operator company called Funky Tours. The driver who accompanied us on the tour was Almir, who was extremely knowledgeable of the conflict that resulted in the most atrocious genocide of innocent civilians since WWII, having himself fought during the siege of Sarajevo. The journey to Sebrenica, took approximately 2.5 - 3 hours and he spoke in detail for the entire journey which allowed for all of us to be well prepared for what we were about to experience.
We had lunch with a wonderful lady (Bageer) who prepared a typical Bosnian three course meal which was extremely tasty and shared her experience of the conflict also. The lunch with a welcoming unique feature of the Srebenica tour which we all looked forward to most and weren't in the least disappointed.
Personally speaking, a visit to Sarejevo is isn't complete without a visit to Srebenica with Funky tours, Almir and Bageer.

Knowing I was coming to Sarajevo, I wanted to ensure I visited Srebrenica. Funky Tours offered this experience and I am so grateful it was available while I was here. Communication beforehand is excellent.
Mustafa was our guide and he was so full of information, insight, personal experience and opinions about the war and life in general in Bosnia & Herzegovina. He also answered every question I could come up with which was appreciated.
The Memorial (cemetery and museum) are not easy but they are important to understanding the genocide that took place during the war and the failure of the International community to prevent it. I could have easily spent longer in the museum so that was my only negative…maybe provide just a little longer (like two hours, including the video, as there is a lot to digest and I was rushing in the hour and a half).
I especially liked the lunch with a local family (well, it was really one family member). It was a delicious, filling lunch and the chance to meet someone directly impacted by the events at Stebrenica had a great impact on me. It breaks my heart but also fills me with such respect for the resiliency they have and the ability to move forward without living in hate or with a desire for revenge.
It was also nice to view the countryside in the way to and from the memorial. Time actually went quickly as we were taking the entire way.
This experience will definitely stay with me and I would highly recommend for all travellers to Bosnia and Herzegovina.!

Dear, it's wonderful that our communication beforehand met your expectations, and we're grateful for your positive comments about, your guide. It is great to hear that he provided you with valuable insights and answered all your questions.

Okay let me tell you this. I’ve been all around the world and I’ve been on countless tours - the best way to see and learn about new cities when I arrive.
This was by far THE BEST tour I’ve ever been on. The tour guide Almir was so incredibly awesome, that when I went on the first tour of the Siege of Sarajevo, I was due to leave the next day for Serbia - I cancelled my trip and stayed longer so I could go on another tour with him! It was worth it.
As a foreigner, trying to grapple with the past of Bosnia and the impact the war has had on its people - this learning experience has helped broaden my understanding in such a monumental way. Having the 1:1 experience of meeting a mother who has lost loved ones in the genocide (I wasn’t even aware of the genocide before coming here - something I am ashamed to admit), was very moving and I am so grateful for such an experience. The home cooked Bosnian food was just delicious and exactly what I had been searching for on this trip.
Thanks Funky Tours and to Almir - your stories, insight, wisdom and first had accounts of war will remain with me forever, and I hope to use the knowledge to educate and inspire others in the future and along my own journey in my travels.
I’ll be back again - I assure you! Love to Sarajevo.

We spent two days with Adnan G, with one day centered on the Srebrenica genocide. Adnan’s ability to share his own experiences from the siege of Sarajevo with his deep knowledge of the war in Bosnia, with his exquisite humanity, empathy and generosity made our time together incredibly potent. I would wish all people could learn with Funky Tours - about this particular time in the world, as well as how to for learn about difficult history beyond defensiveness, deception and denial. The lunch with Leila in Srebrenica was deeply moving - her generosity of heart in sharing her story and the beautiful meal she made will feed us throughout our lives. This was a phenomenal experience with phenomenal people. Adnan, Elvir, and everyone else we met from Funky Tours - thank you for doing this important work.

Dear Heather,
Reading your kind words simply melts our hearts, we are so grateful that you recognised our hard work in helping our guests to better understand our history, culture, and people of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Even though our history might not be the brightest, this city and country have so much more to offer.
Thank you so much for booking these tours with us and for deciding to learn with Funky tours. We are happy that we managed to meet your expectations and we truly hope to see you again in the future.
All the best from your FT team! <3
