What to expect
  • Meet your local guide in the afternoon in central Sofia and set off on your walking tour. Your guide will show you some of Sofia’s most beautiful buildings, such as the National Theater, King’s Palace, and the Presidency. Continue from here to the Art Club, a popular bar that’s a favorite with locals. Here, stop for a snack and try Bulgaria’s world-famous shopska salad, made with fresh cucumbers, tomatoes, cheese, and spices. Plus, sip a cup of traditional Bulgarian ayryan — a classic cold yogurt drink. Next, take a walk around one of Sofia's most interesting areas: where the places of worship of three religions can be seen in the space of five minutes. Stroll around the Rotunda St. George — a circular, early Christian red-brick church — the Eastern Orthodox St. Nedelya Church, and the nearby Banya Bashi Mosque and Sofia Synagogue, the latter situated in a square called ‘Small Jerusalem.' From here, visit the Central Hali Market: a building with more than 100 years of history. Admire the early-20th century architecture of this restored covered market, and delve into the stalls to taste typical local sweets such as baklava (sweet filo-pastry dessert) and tolumbichki (fried pastries soaked in honey syrup). In addition, perhaps scout out and buy fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, and sausages. Afterward, ride one of the newest underground lines in Europe to a stop near the National Palace of Culture, a communist-era conference center opened in 1981. Visit a typical Bulgarian restaurant that showcases the city’s 19th-century architecture and furniture. Here, enjoy tastings of some fantastic Bulgarian wine together with various meat cuts such as lukanka (salami), babek (dried, cured sausage), Fillet Elena (dried, cured meat), and pastarma (dry, cured beef). Your tour then ends here, leaving you free to continue your tastings with a variety of classic Bulgarian hot or cold appetizers, main dishes, and desserts.

Very private tour
My tour was with Danny and just me! He was amazing, made me feel very comfortable being on my own. Extremely knowledgeable and very humourous. Food was fun, but enjoyed finding out about the history, culture and general life in Bulgaria (Sofia) more. Well worthwhile!!.thanks Danny!!

An excellent introduction tour to a local cuisine of Bulgaria and capital's landmarks, treasures and it's history.
Jun 2019 • Friends
I booked this tour for myself and two other friends who were visiting Sofia and Bulgaria for the first time. I read that these tours are for small groups only which was something we were looking for hoping that there will be a small amount of tourists. It turned out to be the best choice I made. We were greeted by Danny a local tour guide at the entrance of the National Art Gallery and there was only us three and him so we couldn't be happier from minute one. We hit it off with Danny straight away and our exciting adventure began.
He was taking us to all the main historical buildings telling us the history of it with such enthusiasm and pride that we fell in love with the city during this amazing tour. We had his attention throughout the tour and we asked hundreds of questions and he was always happy to answer them. We had two stops during the tour for the local food tasting which was sufficient enough to keep you going until dinner time. Again Danny couldn't be more helpful and enthusiastic about it all.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this tour and particularly Danny to be your tour guide if you want to feel like a local in his company and learn so much about the city, the country, the history etc from such an enthusiastic, well informed, knowledgeable and inspiring young man.

The food tour with not very much food....
Mar 2018 • Solo
First let me say the guide was knowledgeable and did a good job. Also for the most part I did get what was described with some exceptions.

However, I thought I was signing up for a food tour. I've been on a few of those and normally there are >8 stops along the way on the ones I've been on. I have used it in the past to check out restaurants at the beginning of my trip to figure out where I'll eat over the week. I feel I basically got a walking tour with a Shopska salad, a yogurt drink, a glass of wine , and some Bulgarian cold cuts added in. The food was all good pretty large portions for a food tour (somewhat compensating for fewer stops) , however if I could do it again I probably would have gone for a walking tour only at about a third of the price and spent the extra money on dinner.
