We really enjoyed the day. The monastery is really beautiful and we got to see some snow.
Our guide, Todor, was really nice and made our experience totally worth it. Definitely the best Bulgarian guy that we've met.

The monastery and church are interesting. The fresh paintings are all over, inside and outside the monument. If you have the opportunity wait to the change of hour and take a look at the clock tower you will be surprised with what you will see.

Great trip to be done as a day trip from Sofia. Boyana Church is so small and well preserved so it is a quick stop, but worth it. Rila Monastery was so breath-taking. It is just beautiful! Definitely go!

Me and my daughter decided to book this tour after seeing good reviews and after people telling us that going there alone would not be wise. The bus left promptly holding 7 tourists, the tour guide Alex, and a lady who didn’t say much or conduct any part of the tour but was obviously close with the tour guide. The travel was fine if a little scary due to the fact that Alex the driver as well as the guide, kept swerving into the other lane to overtake people on very narrow, steep, winding roads. When arriving to the Rila Monastery, Alex gave us a 20 minute talk about how the monastery was formed.... and that was it,we then had an hour and a half to wander around. His information wasn’t bad, but he wasn’t enthusiastic at all, and it felt like he was just there because it was his job. At 2 we went for lunch at this nice small restaurant, trout was divine and fresh as well, bill wasn’t expensive either. We then drove to the Boyana Church, here Alex seemed a bit more involved in the history he was teaching us, which was nice at least. We got dropped back to the Cathedral at 4.50 earlier than the itinerary. Overall i felt that we were just paying for the ride there and back, there was some information given but it wasn’t what we had expected at all. In addition the tour guide wasn’t mindful of two tourists who could not speak English, their daughter could and was translating for them. He came across as rude and slightly racist if I’m honest. If you’re going to go, we saw other guides doing much better talks, and being more involved, I wouldn’t recommend this based on my experience. It was alright, but I’m sure there’s better.

Definitely recommend this trip with V Travel as their guides seem to really know the history behind the sites. Ivan was out guide and he had an answer for every question we had about sites we visited. It can be a long trip but our guide was friendly and made sure everyone was comfortable. Bonus points for taking us to a delicious lunch spot. Also, was the most affordable option when booking this tour.

I feel its important to start of by saying that Rila Monastery is absolutely breath taking and a MUST SEE... However, I feel as though there could certainly be better tours available as our tour guide, who was very informative, unfortunately lacked any charisma and enthusiasm and it felt a chore to bond with him in any way as he mostly gave matter of fact answers. If you contrast this with the FREE sofia tour where their tour guides are absolutely amazing and full of charisma you can understand why we felt a little ripped off here.

Dear Philip, we thank you very much for your feedback. We have notified our guide for his lack of enthusiasm and would certainly make an effort to make all our guests happy. Please note however, that the Rila Monastery is a cultural informative tour, quite different from Sofia Free tour which could be rather qualified as an entertainment... "Semi-cheap" is difficult to understand though as you have paid 23 Eur per person for a full day guided tour including 260 kms transportation and all taxes and commissions included...we don't really see how we could make this tour cheaper!

The day trip to Rila Monastery and Boyana Church with V Travel was very, very good.

We started at 9:00am from St. Alexander Nevsky Square in Sofia, and in a minivan with five other people plus the guide we headed toward Rila Monastery, where we arrived a couple of hours later.

After visiting the monastery we stopped for dinner, then we headed back toward Sofia and we reached Boyana Church.

Around 5:30pm we were back in Sofia.

The tour was very good: incredibly beautiful destinations, a very good guide (Slato - I hope I'm writing the name correctly!) that provided very useful information and was always happy to answer questions.

Rila monastery and Boyana church were interesting places to visit. The history lovers will enjoy them and we were lucky to go there with V-Tours because we had a plenty of time to visit them and learn the details about their history. The tour guide was knowledgeable and he had an understanding for our 'other needs'. He arranged a lunch in the family-owned restaurant and had no problem when the lunch took longer than expected. We have had a really great time. Thank you.
