Overview
The best collection of medieval castles, walled cities and fortresses in a 7 days tour.
Romanian History is one of the most dramatic in the world, located on the edge of two great empires – Hungarian and Ottoman (Turkish empire), the edge of two cultures and religions Christian and Muslim.

Literally hundreds of castles and fortifications are spread all over Romania. The best castles are in Transylvania, where some of them were never abandoned and the daily life continues almost unchanged for centuries. Come with us to explore the castles of Transylvania and their incredible stories.
What to Expect
Day 1 Meet you guide at Bucharest airport or hotel, then drive across the Carpathian Mountains to Transylvania. One hour visit at Rasnov Teutonic Knights Fortress. The fortress turned later into a small walled town with 60-70 houses, 9 towers and 10 meters high walls. Overnight in Moeciu a small town in the Carpathian Mountains.
Day 2 2 hours visit at the Royal Peles Castle in Sinaia, one of the most beautiful castles in Europe. Peles Castle is a superb piece of Neo-Renaissance architecture, in truly spectacular setting. 2 hours tour in Bran / Dracula’s castle. The impressive 14 century fortress became world famous as home of Count Dracula the legendary vampire. O/N in Moeciu.
Day 3 A 2 hours tour of Brasov the wealthiest city of medieval Transylvania. Enjoy a guided walk around the old centre to discover the Black Church, blackened by fire in 1689, walk one of the narrowest street in Europe and the superb central square Drive to Sighisoara, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This superbly preserved medieval town easily rivals Prague and Vienna. Here, in this fairy tale town, Vlad Dracula was born in 1431. Dracula’s house is now a restaurant and we are all invited. O/N in Sighisoara.
Day 4 2 hour tour Sighisoara, including the Clock Tower with a remarkable clock mechanism from 1648 and a great panorama over the old town. The Church on the hill amazes with unique frescoes, and incredible stories. In Sighisoara each defence tower belonged to a guild, like the Tailors Tower, or Blacksmiths Tower. Discover their incredible stories. One hour tour at Biertan UNESCO site. In Transylvania the villagers built fortresses around their churches. During invasions everyone fled to the walled church, and fought for their life. Biertan is one of the best of these fortified churches, with 3 rings of defensive walls around the church. You'll learn why Biertan had no divorces for 300 years, due to a local tradition. O/N in Hunedoara
Day 5 Visit Corvin castle for 2 hours, The Gothic castle, surrounded by legends and mystery awaits it’s visitors with amazing stories. Drive to Calnic castle a UNESCO Site. The 13 century castle was a nobility residence. In 1430, the nobleman sold the castle to the peasants of Calnic, who turned the castle into a refuge fortress. Here the villagers could defend themselves against the invaders. Drive to Sibiu, 2007 Cultural Capital of Europe. O/N in Sibiu.
Day 6 Walking tour of Sibiu - the historic centre of Sibiu, discover the superb “Big Square” quaint cobbled streets, the Liars Bridge the place where traitors (liars) used to be hanged. Per legend, the bridge should collapse if you lie while standing on it. Tour Fagaras castle. After a 9 months siege on this castle, the Turks came up with a dirty trick to win the battle. Great story awaits you here. O/N back to Moeciu.
Day 7 if your flight times allow, add 4 hours highlights tour in Bucharest Transfer to Bucharest Airport or Hotel
