- emmafZ5238QK0 contributionsUnforgettable Acatenango HikeAcatenango Volcano Overnight Hike - an unforgettable hike! From the start the company were professional and responsive. The challenging hike was made easier by our guide, Rudy. He kept us motivated and looked after us very well. His knowledge and enthusiasm was welcomed. Overall the hike was a magical experience. Highly recommend Old Town Outfitters!Written 20 November 2024
- V4862EXrebeccah0 contributionsWonderful day at Pacaya! We had a fantastic time on this excursion. We met our guide, Rudy, in Antigua and then we drove an hour to the volcano. The ride was scenic. At Pacaya, we also had a local guide join our group. He was very knowledgeable about the flora and insects. We hiked up to the lava fields and roasted marshmallows over the heat vents from the volcano. Rudy prepared a delicious lunch which we enjoyed at the top. We had a lot of fun! Highly recommend bringing a rain poncho on this trip! It is a moderate difficulty hike with some very steep areas.Written 7 October 2024
- adrie_enne0 contributionsBeautiful views, fabulous hikeWe had a fabulous tour with Old Town Outfitters of Pacaya volcano. It was a great hike to get us warmed up for the overnight Acatenango hike the following day. The scenery is gorgeous and we really enjoyed learning about different plants along the way. The guides are so friendly and knowledgeable and took great care of us. We loved the unique experience of roasting (steaming) marshmallows in a dried lava field and having lunch with a fabulous view. Highly recommend this tour and Old Town Outfitters for any other tours you’re interested in! They’re excellent.Written 13 September 2024
- bharatm123450 contributionsMust recommend trek - Acatenango overnight with old town fitters! One of the best tours I ever had was the overnight tour trek to acatenango volcano! Old townfitters were really good. Bini is very knowledgeable and made great meal at the base camp! Highly highly recommend them over other operators that charge less but also provide a very mediocre experience. What I also loved is they respect nature and ensured we’d didn’t pollute with plastic bottles and stuff. So total respect. They are premium and rightfully are amazing!Written 10 July 2024
- 213aydint0 contributionsGreat experience thanks to Rudy!Had an amazing time doing the Acatenango Volcano overnight stay and even hiked over to Fuego as well. The whole trip was well organized and Rudy (our guide) made the biggest difference — he was friendly, thoughtful, and fun to hang out with. He also prepared delicious meals for us! We got to see some amazing views of Fuego from the base camp. The tents for the stay were spacious and the pads and sleeping bags provided were extremely comfortable. Would highly recommend doing this trek with Old Town Outfitters!Written 27 May 2024
- S6482LFjeffreyc0 contributionsAmazing experience! What an amazing experience! My partner and I did the Lake Atitlán Kayak & Hike Day Trip with Vini, who was an amazing guide! He was super friendly, fun, positive, knowledgeable, professional, and accommodating. Honestly, he was possibly the best tour guide I have ever had. And T=the activities we did with him were super fun and physically challenging (in a good way) for occasional hikers like us. Antonio, the driver, was also great. Overall, I would absolutely recommend going on an adventure via Old Town Outfitters (and ask for Vini)!!Written 25 May 2024
- Luis R0 contributionsAcatenango Volcano overnight experienceExcellent visit to the Acatenanco Volcano (stay overnight). This is an excellent activity that involves walking through beatiful Guatemala landscapes. Our guide was excellent and did a great job not only in the preparation of the activity itself, transportation, cooking, guiding, telling us interesting volcanos facts, etc, but also to take us to the summit in a safe way. I strongly recommend Old Town Outfitters. Personnel is very friendly, reliable and helpful. I did not have enough clothes for the trip, and they kindly provided me at no extra charge a jacket and gloves. Making this trip enjoying such nice landsacpes and enviroment, is a life-time experience. Thank You for everything.Written 21 May 2024
- trevorbona0 contributionsAmazing Volcano Fuego/Acatenango overnight campThe most memorable 2 nights of our 3 week tour through Central America! Diana our guide was incredible from start to finish. She was knowledgeable, friendly, and so very helpful throughout our stay! Magical experience that included a sunrise and sunset hike, wonderful accommodations, and really good meals! I would highly recommend this adventure to anybody attempting to witness an active volcano at 3,000 meters! Thank you Old Town, we will surely be back!Written 11 May 2024

- 860hunterr0 contributionsBest volcano tour in the area.Old Town Outfitters was the best tour to book for the Acatenango volcano tour. I booked them as a referral from a few friends that had gone with them earlier this year and it was the best decision for my trip to Guatemala. Their office was extremely easy to work with and having a shop in Antigua really came in handy. I had made a booking error when I originally reserved but their receptionist Tamy was extremely supportive and helpful in making sure I took the right trip. It was also nice being able to purchase some items I missed in packing from them directly. My guide Luis was extremely knowledgable about the volcano and showed us areas that other tour groups weren't privy to. He made great meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and even made sure we had a secluded and scenic area to enjoy our lunch. Other tour groups tend to be 30-60 people and as a group that's capped off at 8 he knew exactly where to take us to avoid these rowdy groups and enjoy the scenery around. He took some of the best photos of me that I'd gotten my entire trip. Last their camp is unmatched. There were few other camps in groups I had talked to that had such a straight on view of the volcano. All of the equipment was grade A and made for a comfortable experience despite camping and going through so much physical activity leading into the night. Book with them you won't regret it.Written 15 April 2024
- JulieBIngraham0 contributionsFamily Trip based in AntiguaOld Town Outfitters planned a week-long vacation with our family of 6 - me, my husband, and our 4 kids ages 11-15. We explored Antigua, took a day-trip to the Mayan ruins at Iximche, toured the towns surrounding Antigua, but the highlight for our family was a hike up Pacaya. OTO took care of transportation and provided us with the best guides - very knowledgeable, very friendly, and part of the family by the end of the week. We made the best family memories, thank you Old Town Outfitters!Written 9 April 2024
- 791michelley0 contributionsGreat hike with bonuses!Christa was amazing as our guide and our entire family enjoyed this hike! Especially our son who didn't hike at all but rode a horse which he thought was the greatest. We got to roast marshmallows using the heat from the volcano and volcanic rock enclosures which was really cool and Christa made us a fabulous picnic to enjoy before descending back down!Written 8 April 2024
- RyanM33050 contributionsEasy to work with, reasonable price and no stressI first booked with Old Town in 2014 for a trip to Tikal which was spectacular. I decided to go through them again for a tailored tour of Lake Atitlan (not listed on the offerings). The van arrived 5 minutes early and the rest of the day was pretty magical. We had Diana as the guide for part of the group that went to San Juan de la Laguna, and Josias for the others that did kayaking and hiking. Each couldn’t have been better - both guides were very attentive to adjusting the pace if needed and helping translate. They explained each important aspect along the respective tours, from the names of native plants to the history behind landmarks to the art of hand weaving clothing and tapestries. After ironing out details of the tour (which again they customized), all we had to do was make sure we showed up ready to go; the rest was taken care ofWritten 5 April 2024
- Aven W0 contributionsWe had a great time!Chris and the team at Old Town helped me plan a Guatemala trip to remember! My son and I did an overnight volcano tour. It was amazing! Watching Fuego volcano explode was one of the most magical things I’ve ever seen. Our guide was very knowledgeable, friendly, and lots of fun to be around. He also took great care of us in camp. The meals he made and snacks he provided were all delicious! Chris and old town also arranged for us to go to Tikal and see the ruins. OTO took care of airfare, tour guides, and transfers. A spectacular way to end our time in Guatemala. I highly recommend OTO!Written 20 March 2024
- 570tinal0 contributionsOkayI did the Acatenango overnight hike with Old Town. It was good and nothing was wrong but my tent was not great and the food was not great. Old Town cost a lot more then others so I thought it would be better. I also booked an English speaking guide and my guide was LOVELY but did not speak English very well.Written 5 March 2024

Our tour was perfect. We had a two-day volcano backpacking trip booked for later in the week so we wanted a relatively easy bike tour. Old Town Outfitters set us up with the perfect outing. The ride was long enough to feel like we got some exercise but not taxing at all. The bikes and the gear were all high quality. I really enjoyed getting to test out a Kona full suspension! Our guides Francisco and Diane were super knowledgeable and engaging. They made sure we had a great time. Highly recommend the tour of the coffee plantation and Old Town Outfitters in general.

I'm so glad I signed up for this! I chose to do the tour that visits a local coffee farmer instead of a plantation, and even though it's pricier I definitely felt like it was worth it! I was the only one on the tour and it started with a mountain bike ride through Antigua out to the neighboring town to meet up with the coffee farmer.
Oseas was my tour guide and he was great! Extremely knowledgeable about the history of Guatemala. We met up with Fredy and a translator (wish I got his name because he did a great job!) Fredy showed us the farming co-op and explained how they grow & roast coffee beans. We ended the tour by visiting Fredy's home where his family cooked us lunch and we spent time talking and enjoying coffee!
It felt like a personal, inside look at life in Guatemala and their coffee industry and I felt very grateful that Fredy and his family welcomed us into his home. It was a very special experience and I would definitely recommend it!

This was one of 3 trips/tours we did with Old Town Outfitters. This is a great way to see the beautiful buildings and scenery. When you are in a car or bus, you cannot appreciate the beauty. Pablo was our guide. He was excellent. He is from Antigua and very knowledgeable about the history of the town and all of Guatemala. We rode through the cobblestone streets and Pablo pointed out many points of interested. Our destination was the coffee plantation. We had a wonderful guide that gave us the history of coffee and walked us through the plantation showing us the process. At the end, we were able to taste the different kinds of coffee.

The Sip N’ Cycle Bike Tour with Old Town was an amazing glimpse into the life of the Guatemalan coffee farmer. I had never been on a tour that was equally as genuinely informative, beautiful and easy going. You begin the ride on cobblestone and continue to cruise through rolling hills of the Antiguan outskirts where grand Colonial churches are surrounded by homes, street lamps and parks sprinkled with hydrangea. Buildings and Tiendas pop out, as you pedal by, with saturated colors and waving store clerks. El Volcan Agua stands proudly over the pueblo, as power lines break up the clouds that waltz past in an amazing glimpse of daily life.
Riding through town we meet with our guide, Daniel and he begins explaining the history of the pueblo and coffee in Guatemala. We dismount and leave our mountain bikes in his house and continue on the journey to the farm. I am given a basket to hold in which you traditionally carry with your head, I proceed to use the basket to carry my own pack like farmers would carry coffee. We follow Daniel into the farms while listening to him explain the logistics and process of a coffee farm. He is a very welcoming and jovial man making it a pleasure to listen to his life’s work. To see the origins of the coffee that is so common in our lives was a real treasure. It brought meaning to the hard work and love that goes into growing and making amazing coffee. Seeing and understanding the process gave me a true appreciation for what otherwise would be taken for granted when buying it off shelves. I always feel strange being the outsider on tours but I truly felt Daniels appreciation for us and our genuine curiosity. He walked us through the farm explaining the ins and outs of his plot. We proceeded to pick the fruit and return down the mountain to Daniels where lunch was waiting for us. After the delicious meal he showed us how to separate the beans and dry them, then we then joined his wife inside where she ground and brewed the coffee for us.
The tour of the De La Gente CO-OP farm was one I will always remember. I feel honored to be able to see how Daniel and his family live and have a better appreciation for the work that goes into coffee production. After the coffee tour we glide back down towards Antigua, once again among the amazing colors and sounds of Guatemalan life.

I took the Sip n' Cycle Coffee and Bike tour with Old Town recently and I have to say that it was one of the more enjoyable tours that I've been on. The first part of the tour takes you on bike through several small pueblos surrounding Antigua and highlights the incredibly beautiful colonial churches/cathedrals in each place. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the area and the culture of each little pueblo. What really intrigued me about this tour was getting off the touristy streets of Antigua and off the beaten path. Getting to see and experience how the local communities are composed and how they live their daily lives was very interesting indeed.
The second part of the tour was equally as stellar. We met a local coffee farmer from a coffee CO-OP called De la Gente and took a tour of his coffee plot. If you are a coffee lover, this part of the tour is definitely for you. Our guide has been farming coffee for 20+ years and his knowledge of the plant and process was unrivaled. I learned so much I had no idea about previously. Coffee is so commonplace in our lives that we never think twice about where it comes from, so it was really nice seeing this process firsthand. Being in the coffee field is very hands-on, as you are given baskets and are allowed the opportunity to harvest some of the coffee from the plant. Amazing! After actually being in the coffee field, the tour goes back to the local guides home where you have a delicious home-cooked typical Guatemalan meal. You have some time to relax and then the tour gets going again by showing how the coffee is processed and prepared for sale right there in the guides house. You even get to try some of the coffee as they cook the beans and serve it to you right off the stove! Overall, it was amazing seeing the entire coffee process and to get it from a local farmer instead of a large corporate farm made the experience that much better.
All in all, this was a very laid back day filled with interesting information, local culture, and great food and coffee. 10/10 would recommend and would certainly use Old Town again for any other of my Guatemalan adventures.
