- Zvartanian0 contributionsMost excellent cooking classPaper Tiger cooking class review My husband and I had a wonderful experience at our cooking class with chef Sinoun at Paper Tiger restaurant on Pub Street, Siem Reap. We arrived mid morning to ask about booking a class and were invited to take a class right away! We had to wait a few minutes for Sinoun to get ingredients set up, but we were thrilled she was able to accommodate us at short notice. We were given a few dishes to choose from to cook for our class. We chose the green mango salad and fish amok, along with bananas with passion fruit sauce for dessert. First off, we walked around the market nearby where Sinoun showed us many unusual ingredients. When we returned, we donned aprons and chef hats, and washed our hands in water with limes. Then we sat down and started chopping and grating ingredients. Sinoun showed us how to use the grating tool to make basket-weave slices of green mango and carrots. We prepped all the ingredients for the three dishes before we started any cooking. Sinoun also taught us how to fold and cut banana leaves to make plate decorations and cups to serve the amok! Then she turned on the stoves and we started cooking. When all was prepared, we enjoyed a delicious lunch. Sinoun was a delightful teacher. We had a wonderful time cooking with her.Written 19 December 2023

This class deserves more than just 5 stars - absolutely a blast! Loved our chef Chaney. Class taught on the upper level of the restaurant with lovely breeze keeping us comfortable through the morning class. Trip to the old market was super and Chaney took time to point out the unique fruits & veggies. We loved the cambodian dishes we selected to prepare and Chaney taught us many cooking techniaues. We would highly recommend this class for anyone - no cooking skills needed. Go hungry - you're gonna love it!p

This cooking course is a great way to spend a relaxing afternoon in Siem Reap. Sinuon is very friendly and does a great job of imparting her knowledge and skills in the kitchen. The price is very reasonable and you get to choose on of two starters (spring rolls or mango salad), one of three mains (chicken/fish curry, amok, or loklak) and fried bananas with a passion fruit sauce. The dishes are restaurant quality and the experience of preparing them and cooking them is therapeutic. This is a great choice for an afternoon in Siem Reap!

The cooking class here was amazing. And it was with the most friendly and patient chef Sinuon. She was a really good teacher. Luckily we were the only ones who booked the afternoon class so it being private made it even better. We could choose our own dishes and eat them downstairs in the restaurant right after. Also got the recipes in the mail now so I can cook them again when Im back home. Can definitely recommend this to anyone in Siem Reap!

First of all, ask for Sopheap!
The class is on the second floor balcony of the Paper Tiger restaurant. With the backdrop of the sights and sounds of bustling Pub Street, I've got to say that this is a once in a lifetime experience.
I try do cooking classes in every country that I vacation in, and I was just in Saigon yesterday doing a Vietnamese class (see my other review of Provincial Cooking School). Thos was probably the best class that I have taken. What I enjoyed is she let me do all of my own cutting, and explained how and why I should cut a certain way. I made my own curry paste, and tasted each thing that went into it. Most classes, they do the prep for you in advance, and you just throw the dish together.
But not here. I had a wooden cutting block, a mortar and pestle, and did all of my own prep u Der the watchful eye of Sopheap. I learned how to fold bowls out of banana leaf, and make flowers out of carrots.
The food was FABULOUS. She gave me multiple options to choose from depending on my taste, and was super encouraging.
I could ramble on all day, but the bottom line is if you want to feel closer to Cambodian culture, enjoy cooking, and have no dinner plans, this is the place to go.
By the way, the VALUE that you get is unbelievable. This experience is a MUST DO!

We spent a really good time under the guidance of Sinuon, the best chef in all of Siem Reap and Cambodia! She was really kind to us and showed us how to cook some delicious traditional Cambodian dishes. After we ate it all, there was a lot of food! I absolutely recommend this activity to anyone who will be spending a few days in the city.

What a wonderful way to start a day on vacation. We arrived at the Paper Tiger cooking class at 10am, where we met Sinuon, She gave us a quick tour of the local market , where she pointed out various cambodia ingredients.
We then went back to the restaurant to cook Spring rolls, Chicken Curry and Lok Lak. We started preparing all the vegetables, Sinuons English and directions were clear. She was super friendly and very knowledgeable. We had are teenage daughter with us and even she loved this cooking class .
We cooked all 3 dishes and even learnt some new techniques on plating the food .
We then sat down after and got to eat are hard work.
I highly recommend this cooking class with Sinuons .

We had an amazing time at the 5pm-8pm cooking course with Sopheap. The food was excellent and the instructor was so kind and welcoming and gave us a tour of the local food market before our session. We came with 4 people (2 teens) and were able to chose different meals to cook within our session which meant we could share when we ate our meal downstairs in the restaurant. We would definitely recommend! And, will return another night to have dinner as the food coming out the kitchen looked amazing!

We had the experience of cooking Cambodian with Sopheap (Pip). First we chose what to cook from the menu (an appetizer and a main course) then he took us to the market to learn about the products we would use. Then we went upstairs to the restaurant where there is a real kitchen. There we dressed up as chefs and started cleaning the vegetables and preparing our dishes with the help of Pip who gave us information. There were 16 of us divided into two groups with two different menus. It was a lot of fun and really nice. After cooking Fresh Spring Rolls, chicken curry and banana flambees we went down and all had dinner together eating our dishes.
It was a really beautiful and fun experience. Sopheap is very good and speaks excellent English. A great cook and teacher.

1 Friendly teacher: The teacher we met is sinuon. In addition to the ingredients at the market, she kindly informed us about things we were curious about (like how to choose mangoes). During class, I told them about Cambodia. And her English skills are very high. Very good communication was possible.
2 Friendly class: Cooking book will be sent via email after class. You don't have to write down each recipe during class.
3 Cleanliness: It will be held on the second floor of the restaurant. I think it was the cleanest place in Cambodia. All dishes and ingredients are clean.
4 Great ingredients and food taste: Thanks to sinuon’s great guidance, I was able to make really delicious food.
