Totumo Volcano and Mar Rosa Tour in Cartagena with Lunch

By QUE HAY PA HACER EN CARTAGENA
About
Travelers should book this tour because they will have the opportunity to visit two exotic and medicinal attractions of the Colombian Caribbean such as the famous Totumo Volcano, which has gained national and international importance because the mud baths in this volcano are recognized as beneficial for the health of the body because the components of the mud contain salts and minerals that help relax it, exfoliate the skin and, according to many permanent visitors, improve health and cure different ailments. And the beautiful attraction Mar Rosa which has a great history and its salt flats steal the whole show, since they provide the waters forming the intense pink sea, being a natural phenomenon it has a pink hue depending on the season.

TERRIBLE PROVIDER: Que Hay Pa Hacer En Cartagena…DO NOT BOOK
This tour provider did not show up and did not contact me to let me know. I waited 45 minutes to find out the tour was cancelled on their end. I asked for a refund and they refused. I booked through Expedia and was granted a refund. DO NOT BOOK ANYTHING WITH THIS TOUR PROVIDER!!!

      English Tour: Not worth it
      1) Tour was advertised as a 10-15 member tour. There was a whole bus of people 2) Tour was advertised as English but it was 80% Spanish 3) Tour was advertised as a tour of Cartegena but they took us to Cartegena old city to an Emerald shop. It’s not a walking tour. 4) It felt like a colossal waste of time The tour guide did their best to help but the tour itself was architected in way the guide couldn’t do much. I would not recommend this. Try the Beyond Colombia free walking tours if you are looking for quality English speaking tours. The guides were fantastic!!

      Awesome day out, no regrets!
A great half day excursion, saw some really cool islands with some beautiful water & reefs! If your heavy it’s kind of hard to get back on the boat after snorkeling, the alcohol at Cholon was three times as expensive as downtown Cartagena.

This tour was great! My tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. I learned so much history, the food for lunch was amazing, and all the people I met were lovely.

This was really a horrible experience. We felt like we wasted a whole day of our vacation on this and regretted taking this excursion.

This was basically how the day went:
Get picked up and drive over an hour to the "museum". The museum is literally a one room shack with some pictures on the wall. Since we didn't speak Spanish we were walked through the room in literally 2-3 minutes.
Get back on the bus drive to the pink sea. This apparently was not in season, so we basically got out of the bus and walked down to this large pond that was filled with filthy mud water and like foam coming up on the banks. Again, we spent literally 2-3 minutes here and then got back on the bus.
Then we drive over another hour to the mud volcano where there is hundreds of people waiting in line to get in. We stood in line in the sun with no shade for probably an hour or so. Then we got in the volcano, which was crowded shoulder to shoulder with people, for 5 minutes, then went down to the water to wash off. We were then back in the van for approximately another 1.5 hours of driving back to the hotel.

We spent the whole day in the car going to these horrible experiences. The people driving the car also just kept stopping and picking up and dropping off people they knew almost like a taxi service.

The whole day was extremely frustrating and we really wished we could have got it back. I really suggest you don't waste your time.

So I will start with what was good. It was nice to be picked up and dropped off at our hotel. They were right on time also. It pretty much went down hill after that. The so called air conditioned transportation was unbearably hot…the a/c was awful and there was no leg room either. The tour guide and driver didn’t really speak to us at all except to tell us to get out of the van when we arrived. The mud volcano was a man made square of some kind of mud up on a hill. There was about a 40 minute wait in the sun until it was your turn to get in and then you were shoulder to shoulder with everyone. It was way too crowded. Then some guy starts “massaging “ you whether you want him to or not…it was very awkward. When you get out of the mud some other guy wipes your body off excess mud with his hands…again weird! Then you are directed to go to the lake where women “wash you off”…again whether you want them to or not…and they touch you under your bathing suit EVERYWHERE!!! Then to top it off, you need to tip each one for their awkward unwanted service. Then it’s back on the roasting hot bus to the pink sea that isn’t pink. Then it’s off to lunch which was just mediocre. Again back on the unbelievably hot bus back to your hotel. My recommendation is to take a cab first thing in the morning to the so called volcano mud bath if you want the experience…that’s what we wished we had done.

The mud experience was great but everything else wasn’t. We were told we would get an bilingual/ English guide. They took us to a museum before we went to the pink sea (the museum was nice but this stop was not mentioned prior). They dropped us off at a restaurant & our tour guide just left without telling us how we would get dropped back home. We spoke to another party & their tour guide told us that our tour guide made arrangements for her to set a taxi up for us to go back to our hotel.

The worst experience so far, no hotel pick up as advertised, guide only translated to English upon request and missed a lot of crucial information. No transparency on all hidden charges and felt like a rip off, lunch at an abandoned hotel and beach really was the tip of the iceberg. Would not wish this on anyone

It was a good tour. The Guide showed us a little town and it's museum. Then we went to the beach that was supposed to have pink water but due to weather conditions summit was not. Lastly we we t to the Volcano that was really fun and an interesting experience. Lastly the guide took folks who signed up for lunch to a restaurant.

Pretty fun little day trip. Hotel pickup which is nice. The pink sea is not pink (and hasn't been for a while, probably due to climate change) but was pretty nice nonetheless. The volcano is not really an actual volcano but the mud bath is an interesting experience and work doing. The townsfolk around the volcano are not very friendly and will relentlessly harass you for tips for EVERYTHING. That made the whole experience a lot less relaxing. Lunch was pretty good! It's not a bad thing to do for a half day but I wouldn't go out of your way to do it. One easy improvement is to have a designated space for tourists free from hawkers. Do that and the whole experience would be a lot better.

This tour could have easily been 5 stars, but our guide was substandard. She was not interested in us. She did not communicate well. The volcano was very enjoyable, and i am glad I went. Having a guide who cared could have made this so much better.

I went with my sister and my two wives as a celebrity trip for their completion of the 1st year of college. I’ve been to Cartegena several times and this time I really had a blast on this tour. The staff was very professional, friendly and the food at the restaurant for lunch was excellent. The volcano experience was fun and we enjoyed the volcano, visiting the museums and seeing the not so pink sea😂. I now understand why the sea is pink during certain times of the year. Even with it being pink it was still a beautiful experience. I would definitely recommend this excursion.

We had a wonderful time. Our hotel was not mentioned as a stop but they did pick us up there after we contacted them. . Our guide was super friendly. The organization group at the volcano was top notch. Our guide at the volcano.. Miguel was helpful in holding our shoes once at top.. taking photos with our own phones. In the mud.. it was so much fun.. you get a thorough body massage from the the mud attendants Clean up was fun. Don’t forget to tip the washer ladies. They do a great job. Lunch was at a seafood restaurant. Highly recommend the fish. Very enjoyable and we highly recommend this tour.

It was very good BUT it took way to long to get there . There was a lot of fighting amongst the locals who washed us off.Lunch was just okay. I wish water was included because it was burning up and we all needed water. Too bad the pink sea was a muddy lake .
