- 1Among the 1185 Croatian islands, only one of them is the golden one, the Insula Aurea – the island of Krk. Located in the centre of the Kvarner bay, it is considered one of the most attractive tourist destinations. Its mild Mediterranean climate, good geographical position and variety of natural and cultural beauties gave it, even in ancient times, the name “golden island”. Its cultural heritage has given it another name – the cradle of Croatian culture, whilst at the beginning of the 20th century it gained the name the “sixth continent”. Discover the island; uncover its charms and treasures in every season: cruise through its beautiful and varied landscapes, visit its thousand year-old monuments. Breathe in the feeling of wellbeing whilst walking along the romantic pathways by the sea or along the wild shepherd’s rock paths. Enjoy the magical tastes of Krk cuisine and delightful home-made wine.
About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Curiosity648332289490 contributionsoutstanding tour guidefantastic tour. our guide, Ernest, is one of the best we have encountered. he taught us a great deal about the sites and his country. highly, highly recommend.Written 23 September 2024
- GlobeTrotting6822940 contributionsCave and electric trainErnest was a great guide, full of energy and sense of humor and information. Wish the description of the tour had mentioned the cold temperatures while touring in the train. Also, the description could include options to just tour by train and no walking. Reminded me of Krakow salt mines.Written 30 June 2024

- Pioneer409526950580 contributionsCaves and castle were amazingLeave the dull cruise ship excursions on offer if stopping in Rijeka and make your way to these extraordinary caves and the beautiful castle in Slovenia. You won’t regret it. Driving there you see how beautiful Croatia and Slovenia is. Our first stop was the castle which we thought we had 2 hours at according to the itinerary but really only had an hour by the time they got tickets. This wasn’t enough time to explore the castle fully and seemed a bit rushed. Might have been due to it being a little unorganised getting us onto buses which might have got us to the castle later than planned. Then didn’t have time to get lunch to get down to the caves. Caves spectacular and the train ride in was cool. Fabulous day out. Highly recommendWritten 1 August 2023
- Guide47650 contributionsWay cool cavesReally cool experience. Much more than we expected. Predjama Castle is a cool little spot to check out. But the highlight is the caves. Surreal is the best way to describe it. Make sure to bring a jacket or sweatshirt. It gets cool down in the caves. Well laid out and organized. As for our guide, Dean, he was very professional and informative. He helped us navigate our way around pretty well. The only issue was that the time got changed the night before and I didn't read the email until we were waiting on the dock from the cruise ship. It was a bit unorganized in the beginning, but once we got on the bus, all was good. The bus driver was awesome with some tight roads. Slovenia is a gorgeous country and I will be back.Written 14 July 2023
- 949cindyf0 contributionsNot as expected! The provider essentially pulled a "bait and switch on those of us who bought this tour. He kept us 40 minutes until all other trips they had sold were gone ( as well as the ships excursions) then told us the caves and stables were 'sold out' even though we reserved several months ago. My advice is to book with a different provider.Written 5 July 2023
- ALinCA5512me0 contributionsBest part was the cave. Long bus ride.We booked this excursion coming from NCL cruise into Rijeka Port. Due to not liking the options available from the cruise line, we found this very unique opportunity. Although, I am rating this a 3, it does not mean it was not worth it - but felt there are some downsides worth mentioning. Rijeka required us to tender, so we had to leave extra time to make the tour on time. This is a 1.5 bus ride to the Castle/Cave and 1.5 hours back. 3 hours total on a bus. You must be able to do steps and walk up steep hills to experience everything. Someone in our group had an injured knee which did not allow her to experience the best parts. What we liked: - Going into a new country - Slovania - Postojna Cave (largest tourist cave in Europe) - Comfortable air conditioned bus - Tour company responsive via email communication What we didn't like: - Lack of clear communication on pick up time. It is not communicated on the ticket. People had different times depending on who they booked thru. We had to ask the tour company directly for the time. - Organization to get on the bus was very messy creating lost time (standing in hot sun, moving us all around as they figure out the bus). Passing out tickets at the castle was also chaotic. At one point we had to pull over and wait for someone to drop off vouchers for the castle/cave. - No food (with very limited time to get food) our bus had limited bottle available for $1 euro. - Felt very rushed at the Castle (late Start + ticket distribution took Euro. - Castle exterior built into the rock was beautiful, but the inside tour of the castle was unexciting to me. LOTS of steps.Written 4 July 2023
- Passenger5751200 contributionsJust a driver, not a guideI arranged a tour for 12 people as a shore excursion from Rijeka. It was called Rovinj, Pula and the Panoramic Istrian Coast. This was done in two vans each with a driver/guide. Or I should say just a driver as they gave us very little information about what we were seeing, history, culture, etc. The driver of my van was the owner of the company, Dan. Many times he was rude. At one point he used his cell phone to look someting up on the internet while driving 60 mph on the highway. [The other driver was Leon who reported he had only 2 hours sleep the night before because his main job was a bouncer in a bar.] This company is also known as Koper Trips and Trieste Trips. I did another tour with Koper Trips from Koper and had the same driver/owner for that tour. See my review. I arranged 7 tours for this cruise and these were the 2 worst ones and also the most expensive.Written 9 October 2021
- Bev B0 contributionsGreat dayDriver picked us up from the hotel had a great day beautiful scenery and the driver was passionate about his countryWritten 16 September 2019
- DrTomG0 contributionsCrazy place but interestingAs part of a doctors group we were asked to help out on the childrens hospital ....and we visited these caves on the advise of some locals and found them very interesting .Written 3 September 2019
- Rosie6360 contributionsA really interesting and scenic dayWe had an excellent driver in Dajan who is very knowledgeable about the area. We went inland and saw old villages, pretty views, and tasted some local liquors. We finished at a fjord where we had lunch. He was sensitive to my photographic needs and was happy to stop when I saw something photogenic! Altogether a pleasant trip and a good way of seeing paces that are off the beaten track.Written 5 July 2019

Not only the landscape, history and places visited during the Tour were great but the team of Cro trips made the experience into one of the best tours I’ve ever taken. So thanks to this team we are planing to return to this area and maybe visit other places with them.

The tour operator cancelled this tour on us saying it was too touristy for tourists even though they would’ve known months ago and we booked two months in advance. They cancelled 2 days in advance saying there are too many tourists and therefore this tour was no longer allowed to run. However, get your guide and trip advisor, Expedia and their website our advertising for the same dates but more expensive!!!! Unless you want to be cancelled on DO NOT BOOK ON THIS TOUR!!! We are now going to try and get a local ferry to the island and save a tonne of money lost customers for cancelling for no reason during peak tourist season for being too touristy!!!
