About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Markus F0 contributionsEconomy in MantaWe really had a great time, super interesting to get to know more about this region. Thanks to Fernando and his family. See the different production processes was very interesting.Written 20 November 2024
- gillianharrison290 contributionsManta in a dayWell organised tour - small 12 seater vehicle. Knowledgeable guide - excellent English. Competent driver. Well planned day visiting fish market, boat builders, chocolate factory, hat makers, museum and mausoleum, rain forest and lighthouse. Lunch was included. All very good except we felt the visit to the rain forest was not appropriate for the ages and abilities of our group. Two very good guides but as the terrain was, to say the least, difficult, we were not able to enjoy our surroundings as we were watching our footing all the time. Had we been told of the level of difficulty we would not have undertaken the trek. Some of our group were less able bodied and, seeing the start of the rain forest path opted to miss out completely on the experience. Otherwise it was a good, varied day and value for money.Written 24 July 2024
- E1355ZSjennyg0 contributionsA fun day of chocolate with Manta cacao farm tourThe cacao farm tour was wonderful! Experienced a local cacao farm and local snacks and fruit. And a stop at a small batch chocolate producer factory. Shown all about the creation of chocolate from the tree to hot cocoa and chocolate bars. There was a short walk over rough ground among the cacao trees at the farm to really experience the growing cacao pods and harvest (maybe a kilometer total) . Even saw an iguana. Great lunch stop too. Our time was limited as it was a cruise ship stop but Manta SOS made good use of our time and delivered us back to the port on time. Thank you Fernando!Written 1 January 2024
- 713terir0 contributionsGreat day with Jimmy!I'm so happy that we chose this tour company. We exchanged many, many emails because I had so many questions. They were always quick to reply and were extremely professional. We had a great tour guide named Jimmy and a wonderful driver named Javier. They both made sure that we had a fantastic day. They even found us a fabulous fish restaurant on the beach and we were able to get massages there. All in all, it is one of my best experiences ever.Written 17 December 2023

- itsGREGSWORLD0 contributionsA full day with a great guideWe booked with SOS for our first visit to Manta. We scored a day with Christopher, who went out of his way to make certain we all saw as much of Manta and the surrounding countryside as possible. We started at the local fish market and Christopher was able to translate questions we had for local fishermen. Everyone was so friendly. We visited a lighthouse on a short hike up a mountain along the beach. We spent an hour or so in a local rainforest. We dined on local cuisine (Tonga). It was exceptional. We finished the day out in Montecristi visiting a hat maker of the REAL Panama Hat. We even purchased one. All in all the perfect day with a fantastic guide. Thank you, SOS!Written 24 November 2023
- readeasy0 contributionsGreat tour of MantaThis was an excellent shore excursion/tour We were met in the cruise terminal. The reps were very easy to find. The van was comfortable. The fish market was great! So was the Hat and Button factory. Very interesting presentations. We also went to a museum in the town center. Just the right amount of time. I would highly recommend.Written 24 September 2023
- NikitaSerdyukov0 contributionsEcuador coastal life and history.Fernando was great guide, experienced and knowledgeable. We had an opportunity to learn something new and witness life of regular coastal Ecuadorians. I will recommend this simple and not overly time consuming trip.Written 19 July 2023
- drewmH5560GB0 contributions5 stars. Fernando is an extremely knowledgeable guide. We booked a tour to Vinca Agroturistica El Perezoso and could not have been happier with the experience. Fernando was an incredible guide. We know a small amount of Spanish, but Fernando's english(which is on point) filled in all the blanks and made the excursion all the more better. He answered all of our questions on the 1.5 hour ride to and from the farm, handled all the translation while there, and even navigated the Dulche shop in Rocafuerte, and the Granzinado stop along the highway. Bonus: he asked if he could stop and grab a Tonga on the way back to Manta and we said "Of course, we need to get one as well!" Probably the best place we have eaten from so far. A little restaurant on the side of the highway in the middle of nowhere is usually the best food, and this one did not disappoint. We have another 2 months here in Manta, and will definitly be booking another excursion through them. Seriously, this guide group is phenomenal.Written 30 June 2023
- kimmwalczak0 contributionsCocoa & Coffee Yum!This was an amazing chocolate farm tucked away about 1 1/2 hr from Manta. Many cocoa and fruit trees. Delicious coffee with fruit and chocolate samples. Worth the bumpy drive! Guide Fernando and our driver were very friendly. Very enjoyable!Written 10 June 2023
- JBDAVIS0 contributionsAn amazing adventurous day tripWe were staying in Manta and I used Manta SOS tours to arrange our tour to Isla de la Plata. Since I didn’t want to pay for a private shuttle we took the 615 am bus from Manta to Puerto Lopez. It took close to three hours since there were a lot of stops. From the bus station we took a tuk tuk to our meeting point at Hotel Ruta del Sol and made before our scheduled meet time of 930zMet the designated people there and then we waited for our guide Silvano who showed up with about a dozen people already in tow. While my correspondence and payment was to Manta SOS ( absolutely no complaints ) I think we then joined another group. From Puerto Lopez it was a little over an hour boat ride to Isla de la Plata. It was a smooth ride. The hike on the island started off level and then segued into 150 wooden uneven steps up. Add in the hot equatorial sun and it was a bit challenging for those of us not young and in athletic shape. I was glad I brought a hat but I wish I had brought more water. At the top of the steps there’s a nice covered shelter to catch your breath. From there you. An opt for one of two trails. A guide will accompany each group. We opted for the less strenuous path to the cliff and to see the Blue footed boobies. ( There was a pair hanging out in the shelter posing for us.) The scenery along the cliffs is stunning. We saw lots of blue footed boobies, some Nazca boobies and some frigates. Prior to docking on the island we got bananas and banana bread. Once back on board we got lunch which consisted of a cheese sandwich and a tuna sandwich and a soda drink. While the crew doesn’t actually provide water bottles they have water for refills so do bring your own. After lunch we went snorkeling for 45 minutes close to shore. Watermelon post snorkel. We also saw a small group of sea lions basking, a sea turtle when we anchored and two humpback whales ( very fortunate) on the way back. Silvano was very informative and attentive . We were back in Puerto Lopez by 4 pm. Although I have been to the Galapagos I thought this was an amazing day trip. I had a wonderful time.Written 6 June 2023
- E4249HWlarryb0 contributionsRain Forest & luncGreat tour of the rain forest. We saw howler monkey's, a tarantula spider, and many birds. Our tour guide was knowledgeable about all things related to the forest. The hike to the lighthouse was fun as well. Afterwards a great local lunch was provided that was delicious!Written 29 March 2023
- K8886OWsusanc0 contributionsTuna and Panama hats!Manta has a cruise terminal with high end products and welcoming vendors. Carefully knitted covers for artisan chocolate, Panama hats, jewellery and handbags. The town has a good promenade and shopping malls. Dockside tuna are offloaded into waiting container trucks. The large tuna sign in the town emphasises the point. A bus drive out to Montecristi presents a small courtyard with a demonstration of how Panama hats are actually made. It’s intricate, back breaking work. A whole family shows us how. It’s a bit uncomfortable to watch. However, the sales team are keen and helpful. Buy a souvenir for life, to support them.Written 27 March 2023
- Chisholm P0 contributionsA great tour, a great guideHave to do this in English. Soy Canadianse. This was a great tour with Fernando as guide. He speaks very fluent English (he actually lived in Canada for quite a while for all you fellow Canadians), was really nice company and very informative about the history and culture of the area. We saw lots of interesting stuff, but a highlight was a visit to Modesto’s Panama hat shop in Montechristi, a really nice family-run business where we watched him make a hat. Highly recommend.Written 9 March 2023
- reekas0 contributionsGreat Panama Hat Tour and MoreWe were picked up inside the newly built Cruise Ship Dock by our English speaking guide Fernando. Our guide and driver were friendly and professional. This tour provided us with opportunities to meet locals and learn about lifestyles and cottage industries that provide a main source of income to the area. Our trip through the fish market was colourful, the boat industry intriguing, the Montecristi Panama hat demonstration excellent and the button factory fascinating. We also had a brief stop at the Civic and Cultural Center "Ciudad Alfaro" which was built in honour of Alfaro Delgado as a legacy to his liberal revolution, which set the foundation of todays democracy in Ecuador. The impressive Alfaro Delgado's mausoleum is show cased here as well as a diverse craft market. We would highly recommend this tour if you are interested in culture and history.Written 1 January 2023

The bus we were in was old, dirty and the engine was terribly loud.We were sitting in the first row could'nt understand the guide because of the terrible noises of the bus.I told her she did not react.Answerfrom her:next time the company should take another bus.The fishmarket was okay but as there was a long waitingtime to get into Pacocheforest we went to another place to take pictures. But coming back to Pacoche we still could not enter the park. She told us that everyone has to pay 2$ to get in,although our papers showed that the entrance was included. After half an our we finally could enter the forest. In Montechristi she told us to be back at the bus at a certain time
We were there she went to the restroom and then vanished with some people. We did not know where she was
and sat in the bus for one hour till she came back with some people of the bus.
All in all a bad expirience!

We are sorry about the bus, we were supposed to have a newer but the dealer needed one more week to replace it, so we have a newer now :), regarding the $2 fee it was not included in this tour, there was a mistake that has been corrected, if you see you paper, the inclusions only refer to the transportation and bottled water, and not entries, at the end none of you paid anything since we had this error on the reservation; Cristina had to go to the bathroom, because she got a girl's emergency, we know she apologized with your group, I know because I already talked to a member of your group that also told us Cris came back in 10 minutes not an hour, and we know Cristina is a polite young Ecuadorian lady.
We are very sorry for all the inconvenience regardless.
Kind regards

Manta SOS Guide Day Tours was fantastic. We had a small bus, so it was a pleasure to get to know everyone as we spent a day exploring this part of Ecuador. In just one day, we saw the boat builders, the fish market where a lovely gentleman gave us gifts of fresh mangos (never will I eat a mango that tasty!), and we picked up plantain chips to share among our bus-friends. Off we went to the rain forest. We discovered that it was a bit crowded, so our guide gave us the option of going in while other groups were there, or seeing an overlook of the ocean. Why not? Overlook it was. Pilot whales. Seriously! Pilot whales breaching off the coast and stunning rock formations and perfect weather and this Californian was impressed by a coast that looked a lot like home but so exotic as well. We were going to head to the jungle but did a detour to JR's coffee plantation where we learned about the process of growing coffee in the area. He took us back to his home and shared his story with us. Then we went to the rainforest and saw some sleepy monkeys and beautiful flowers. Following that, off to the most incredible fish lunch overlooking ocean and mountains and more flowers. Finally, we picked up handmade Panama hats, blew a kiss to the lovely woman who made our hats and dragged ourselves up the gangway to the cruise ship. It was the perfect day. Thank you to Dennis, tour guide extraordinaire!!
