Brilliant trip to the red and white canyons
Oct 2015 • Couples
This was a whole day trip into the Sinai desert. We were collected by minibus and driven into the desert as far as the rough road would go, then transferred into 4x4s after some Bedouin tea in the desert. These took us to the start of the red canyon, where they left us to walk the canyon which takes approximately one hour. At the end of the canyon we were picked up again and driven to an oasis where we had a very pleasant vegetarian lunch and rest for an hour.
After that we set off walking into the desert to the White canyon. This walk takes approximately 2 hours and in some places required climbing up and down very steep rock faces, or some very rough walking. You have to be very physically fit to do this trip!
But the canyons are so stunningly beautiful, it is totally worth it. The trip ends with s very steep sand slope that you literally "ski" down in your trainers, which is huge fun, once you realise that it's actually possible to do this!
At this point you are picked up again by the 4x4s and then returned back to Dahab via minibus.IT
IT IS A TOTALLY FANTASTIC DAY OUT. We were perhaps fortunate that our fellow travellers, who were German, French and Egyptian were brilliant company. Which certainly added to our enjoyment, but I would really recommend this trip if you are fit. I am retired but quite fit, so you don't have to be young, just nimble and a bit brave! We took s day out from diving to walk the canyons, and we are so glad that we fid

Unreliable tour operator
Oct 2015 • Friends
My brother and I looked for a day trip to the White and Colored Canyon, which is a well known site about 50km from Dahab. King Safari Dahab offered this. We were told we would leave the next day at 08:00am and that the group wouldn't consist of more that eight people due to the limited seating in the jeep.

They let us wait for 45 minutes the next morning. Furthermore, they stuffed nine people in the jeep, and as a result it was quite an uncomfortable while being seated for three hours the entire day. When I confronted the guy who sold us the tour with these things he got very angry at us for complaining. I expected an apology, but not this!

Even though the Canyons are worth visiting, I certainly wouldn't recommend this operator. They are rude and don't deliver what they promise. Do yourself a favor and find a different one.

Great experience on multiple tours
May 2015 • Friends
We were in Egypt with my partner primarily for the snorkeling, but it being our first time, we wanted to see and do a lot. I contacted Joseph before our arrival and once in Dahab, he sent a car to pick us up and bring us to his office so we could discuss our plans in person. We ended up booking 3 trips with him - Overnight climb of Mt Sinai, 1 day trip by bus to Cairo, and a tailor made trip on quad bikes to Blue hole and a Wadi.

We were a bit apprehensive about the trip to Cairo on a public bus, however all went well. Joseph stayed in touch via Whatsapp the whole time and our guide in Cairo was very nice.
The Mt. Sinai was my favorite trip but be aware you're going to waste a lot of time at checkpoints without anyone explaining the hold up to you. It's not King Safari's fault and it's something you just have to accept if you're visiting the country. The drivers on this tour are local bedouins who do not answer to the tour companies so you're always playing Russian Roulette when booking this trip through anyone.
The quad bike and Blue hole trip was definitely a laugh, our driver/guide was very funny and accommodating, I wish I remembered his name to praise him.

All in all the drivers were always on time, most of them very cordial and no one was ever rude or dismissive. Being constantly in touch with Joseph on the phone was very reassuring since we did not know what to expect when traveling the country. He helped make this a holiday to remember.

Thank you Joseph and the team!

Hit or Miss
Apr 2015 • Friends
My friend and I ended up taking three trips with King Safari. This is a really long review as I didn't want to leave anything out. To sum it up, my overall impression is that Joseph tries to run an honest business, which sometimes proves difficult for such a big operation. On the trips we booked with them, every tour was third party so King Safari couldn't do any quality control.

Our first trip was a snorkling trip booked with Ahmed. He sold us the full day tour but the next morning met us to say that there weren't enough people booked for the full day tour. That's understandable so we changed to half day. However, because we didn't have the brochure with us we took his word that the half day was only 50 egyptian pounds less than full day. So we paid and had a lovely day, renting snorkling gear on the boat. When we arrived back to our hotel I checked the brochure and saw that the half day is supposed to be 100 pounds cheaper plus snorkling gear included.

When we stopped by King Safari to ask about it, they informed us that the extra 50 was because lunch was included (different from the brochure). This seemed fair to us. They assured us that a mistake had been made with the snorkling gear, but it was beyond their control as it was the boat staff who asked us to pay for the gear. To appease us they offered a 'really good deal' on two more tours which just about covered the extra we paid for the gear.

Our second tour was a full day tour to the White Canyon and small Colored Canyon. It could have been a great day if we had been prepared. We were told that it was an easy trip (it's actually a bit physically taxing), that a big bottle of water was enough for the two of us, that drinkS would be provided with lunch, and that we would be able to swim in a spring at the oasis. We showed up with our canvas shoes, one small bottle of water each, and our swimsuits packed in our bags. We got started late as the driver made a couple of stops for gas and to return to pick up the young guide who had overslept. The ride through the desert was beautiful and entertaining, but we were rushed through the White Canyon. The guide didn't explain anything and wasn't sensitive to those of us who were struggling to keep up. We ran out of water in the White Canyon, had to buy expensive drinks at lunch except for a complimentary cup of tea, and the 'spring' to swim in was a standing pool of (maybe bath?) water that the residents had filled.

We returned to King Safari once more and they were shocked that our tour returned to Dahab at 2:30 instead of the promised 4:00. They agreed that the guide must have ran us through the canyon, apologized, and said that unfortunately they can't assure that all of the guides handle the groups well. Joseph thanked us for the feedback and said he would talk with the guide and if it happens again he won't do business with him.

To appease us again, Joseph offered us a free trip to the Blue Hole for the next morning. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, so we accepted and told them what time we would like to go. We were assured that we would be picked up at 10am the next morning. Next morning, 10:35am we were able to borrow a phone and call King Safari. The excuse this time was that it was a very busy day, it was so crowded at the Blue Hole, but the driver would be there in 5-10 minutes. By this time we were fed up and also knew we wouldn't have enough time to go snorkling then return to our hotel, shower, eat lunch, and prepare for a 3pm ride to Star Gazing. Joseph asked me to stop by King Safari again and they would try to make it right.

Once again I found myself at King Safari negotiationg the situation (my friend had long since given up speaking with them). They offered to refund what the cost of Blue Hole would have been, although upon the first offer I had to remind Ahmed of the advertised price. The refund seemed fair enough, so I accepted.

Our final trip with them was to Star Gazing, which was lovely though our van left nearly an hour later than expected.

Good trustworthy company - awesome owner
Apr 2013
We went on the two day Jerusalem/Petra trip with king safari - the Petra part was excellent and our English guide was very good albeit the day was a bit of a rush as there is so much to cram into one day!
Jerusalem however was not so great - we had paid specifically for an English guide and yet our guide (sub contractor I understand) was, well, an idiot. Very political when trying to tell us "objectively" about Jerusalem and its history, kept swaying into his own religious and political beliefs which grated quite quickly. Our guide also only talked to us on the bus for about 10 minutes whereas the Russians had a guide who took over and talked for an hour at least after that. Basically it was rather like hijacking the Russians trips - they wanted to go to all the souvenir shops and so we did - rather than see the beautiful old town of Jerusalem or spend any time at the wailing wall (we had 10 minutes I kid you not) we spent instead 1 3/4 hours at a gift shop so the russians could stock up on god knows what. Our guide then had to rush us around the city and when I tried to catch up to him to ask him about various things he could be quite aggressive at times and defensive, almost as if he knew that he was giving a second class service.
The good part though was the owner, Josef. Professional throughout with excellent English, when we complained about our guide upon returning to dahab he apologised, listened and dealt with our concerns very well. He took on board all our issues and told us that he would not be using this guide again (who was from a new company previously not used by them apparently)
He also provided a spectacular evening of compensation - taking us out on camels to a Bedouin dinner the following night under the stars - absolutely fantastic! I would recommend people book this trip too as it was brilliant fun - had excellent tea and BBQ food in the mountains and singing and dancing around the campfire.
All in all - although we had some gripes about the Jerusalem part of the trip at first, Josef dealt with everything superbly and I would now rate him first class! Thanks again for the hospitality guys!

Great stress-free tour company
Feb 2013 • Couples
We were overwhelmed on our first day in Dahab by the amount of tour companies harassing you in the street to go on their tours - "running the gauntlet" of the main drag every day began to become a bore.

However, the first time we found King Safari they were the one office who held back and let us look at their information boards without pouncing. A good start and we struck up a conversation with the guy who was very helpful and informative without being overbearing. So we booked a trip to the Blue Hole with him at an amazing price and had a fabulous day, even went back again with them a week later. We also booked a trip to the 3 Pools and Small Coloured Canyon and White Canyon with them, then having met the owner Joseph in another of their offices. The friendliness continued with him and all his other staff, drivers and guides. The Canyons trip was amazing - Mansour our guide knew everything we could ever need to know about the place, and was patient (some clambering involved!) and great fun.

We would go back to King Safari on our next trip to Dahab without hesitation. Great value too. Thank you all. Rachel & Joe

Wonderful trip to canyon
Jan 2013 • Friends
Thanks to manager King Safari Dahab for well organized half-day trip to canyon. They advised privat trip to very special canyon other than well known Colored and White canyons. Jeep+hiking+light lunch into desert under the palm-tree. Special thanks to guide Mansur - very friendly and exceptional feelings of desert and mountains. Some tips - need suitable footwear for climbing, may be difficult for some people, in winter may be cold and windy into rocks, don't forget enough drinking water.

King Safari Dahab: excellent, reliable services and staff!
Apr 2012 • Solo
As I gaze on the window and only see the usual London's rain, I remember my holiday and how I had an amazing time during all the trips with King Safari Dahab and there have been lots of them while being in Dahab.
I want to thank Bob, Joseph and the entire staff and guides for taking care that I'm enjoying myself at any moment (sorry for not mentioning other names but I'm really bad at remembering them). The agency is really well organized with wonderful and helpful staff, competent guides, competitive prices and great trips and activities (some of the trips only found at King Safari)!
Below you will find the trips I have been to, my thoughts and some advice:
1. Snorkeling at the Ras Mohammed (3 snorkeling trips in 1, as you actually are taken to 3 different spots to snorkel plus a very enjoyable lunch prepared by the bedoiuns: one more beautiful than the other) and Blue Hole (watch out at the Blue Hole as it is very deep but it's worth it; if you are not accustomed to big depths, like I wasn't and panicked for a couple of minutes, prepare yourself ahead and take somebody with you). I have been in April 2012 in Dahab and the water was quite cold, especially along the abrupt reefs, so put on either a swimsuit or special clothing.
2. Submarine trip (good chance for photos and for people who don't snorkel but still want to see the coral reefs; note: quite chilly when going down the boat, so take something to put on).
3. Quad biking (first time I did this and it instantly became my favorite experience: what a rush!). I actually booked quad 2 trips: 1st at the Wadi Connection & Blue Lagoon (I was lucky since it was just I and the guide: no waiting after the group but did only what I wanted) and the 2nd tailored after my taste, which comprised of almost 3 quad trips in 1 and lasted for about 3 and a half hours. I had only to ask of Bob and Joseph and it was done (and with a discount as well).
4. Horse riding (very good and patient guide; prepare yourself for some pain after the galloping – you can guess the body part I'm referring to!)
5. 2 day jeep and camel safari (I was pleasantly surprised by the Closed Canyon, which is really narrow so you have to be quite slim to get to the end of it, and the Mushroom Rock – quite a wonder rock. I spent the night in the Ain Khondra Oasis, which is an excellent chance to spend some time with the bedouins, observe their customs, talk to them and sleep under the naked sky, watched only by the stars. Note: when spending the night in an oasis, take a sheet with you to put it over their bed: trust me on this but don't be put off by this advice – take it as it is and go there & spend the night! It's worth it!
6. Stargazing (wow, indeed; if you come from Europe, it's a must. It's your chance to discover the way the sky free of pollution, a different layout of the stars, explained to you in plain terms and actually see through the telescope the Saturn and Venus planets and the mighty Moon, plus a very enjoyable evening with food, music and dance).
7. Rainbow Canyon (just one word to describe my feelings: speechless! Indeed, all the colours with so different patterns mixed up with strange shapes carved in the rocks by the wind... 2 hours and a half of delight). By the way, King Safari is the only agency in Dahab to operate this trip.
8. St. Catherine's Monastery and Mount Sinai. (oh my, what a climb: I really thought it will finish me off! It was quite challenging for me but bear in mind I'm a smoker and usually spend the time sitting in front of the computer. So, if you are like me, just take the camel-taxi from the beginning of the mount, cause if you take it later, like I did, it will cost you the same. The camel doesn't ride till the top of the mountain anyway, so you'll have to climb about 300 stairs made out of big rocks and feel good about yourself that you still put some effort in it! But when you finally get to the top to see the sun rising and discover little by little the views of the surrounding mountains, you'll only want to either stay there or to do it again the next day! And how many times can you say you have climbed the actual mountain of Moses! Don't forget to stop and pray at the Monastery!). remember though to dress well, as up the mountain is quite chilly, good trainers and a flashlight.
Note: for all your trips in the desert don't forget to take with you water, sunscreen and insect repellent!
In closing, I just want to fully recommend the King Safari Dahab as a very attentive agency to the needs and wellbeing of their customers and which practically moulds to everyone's taste. As an example of the owner's care for their customers, the guides were called by Bob or Joseph without fail during all the trips to enquire about the tourists, if they needed anything else, even spoke to some of them to assure themselves everything was ok.
Congratulations Kind Safari Dahab!

Very friendly, reliable and economic tour operator - absolutely recommendable
Nov 2011 • Couples
Booked several tours with Bob (white canyon, colored canyon, blue hole combined with ras abu ghalum, mount sinai, bedouin dinner and last but not least ras mohammed).
Due to booking several trips I could negotiate a very fair price for the complete package.

The guides on the tours were all very friendly, courteous and it always was big fun.

Next time in Dahab I already know for sure, where I'll book my activities!

Dahab - Petra day trip Reliable & no hassle
Apr 2011
We recently booked a day trip from Dahab to Petra with King Safari. Excellent service from King Safari. Great thing was that their touts outside the store didn't hassle you as you walked past. They offered the best price (currently $230 each) and all the arrangements regarding visas and hotel collection, transfers etc. went to plan. Minibus used for collection was clean, with a/c and a safe driver. King Safari were also one of the few companies we checked out which allowed you to pay with credit cards.

If you do want to do the day trip to Petra from Dahab however, be warned that the companies in Dahab have very little influence over the day apart from your actual collection and drop off at your hotel. Once collected from your hotel, you'll be dropped off to join a coach which is coming from Sharm with other tourists. It's a 5am start and you reach the port of Taba (where more tourists join you from Taba Heights) around 8am, leaving by boat at 8.30am. When you arrive in Jordan, the entire group from the ferry are divided into different language groups and then take different coaches. It's about a 2.5 hour drive to Petra and the coach also makes a rest stop and then a stop for lunch close to Petra. Given that Jordan is 1 hour ahead of Dahab time, you won't actually start the tour around Petra until about 2.30 / 3pm.

Our guide showed us around Petra (along with the rest of the coach) but you are also free to wonder around yourself. It is an amazing site but obviously full of tourists and all the tacky market stalls selling tourist trinkets. I was quite grateful to be visiting now as there are relatively few tourists in the area following the political unrest in the region but still the site was quite busy. Whilst the organisation of the tour from the Jordan side was good, excellent coach, good food, enough rest stops etc, unfortunately our guide was not very good. He told us a little bit of information about Jordan & Petra but spent the rest of the time using the microphone on the coach to tell jokes (sometimes very insensitive) about the situation in Libya at the moment and the recent tragedy in Japan.

We arrived back in Dahab at about 11pm - a very long day but worth the effort.

Whilst Petra is worth seeing, obviously with a one day tour of this nature and the distances involved travelling either from Sharm or Dahab, you expect to be hearded around quite a lot and to spend much of the day on a coach and with that comes the risk of getting a guide who likes the sound of his own voice and tries to be a comedian. If you go expecting that, then you won't be disappointed. If you want a really factual tour of Petra with indepth insight into the history and archeaology of the site, you really need to visit for longer. This however is not a criticism of King Safari as I do not think they have any influence over the guides used in Jordan.

King Safari also helped us to be prepared for the visit by warning us to take warm clothing which thankfully we did. Temperatures on the way to Petra and at the site are a lot different to Dahab as there is a big distance involved. Some people on our trip were in beach wear and were freezing all day. You also need a pair of trainers for walking round, flip flops are not adequate for walking around the site.
