Wild Root Safaris and Adventures -- A Trip of a Lifetime!
My husband suggested a safari to celebrate my 60th birthday knowing it was my lifelong dream to go. An Internet search to begin my planning left me completely overwhelmed, so I turned to Trip Advisor where I always get great travel advice. After reading through the forums, I began limiting my search to some recommended tours in Tanzania and found Wild Root Safaris and Adventures. I am beyond grateful for the recommendation because Wild Root absolutely made our trip the adventure of a lifetime! After emailing the owner, Mathew, with an initial inquiry, I got a very quick response. I explained to Mathew what we were interested in and he customized a seven day safari for us with additional days added on in Arusha. The planning was beyond easy and Mathew was amazingly responsive to all of my questions. Mathew provided us with multiple options for our safari and we finally decided on a private, budget safari for our trip. It was the perfect trip for us and fit well within our budget. Once we arrived in Arusha, we were picked up at the Kilimanjaro Airport and brought to Outpost Lodge where we stayed while in Arusha. Mathew showed up the morning after our arrival to talk through the details and see if there was anything we needed. The lodge was perfect for us--clean and comfortable with a great staff. The night before our safari Mathew stopped by to introduce us to our guide, Hamisi. Our trip was amazing and so much of that was due to Hamisi. He was incredibly knowledge, friendly, and passionate about his country and his culture. We call Hamisi the "animal whisperer" because he had an uncanny ability to find animals. He knew their behavior and this knowledge allowed us to see so much during the safari. But seeing a lot of animals was not enough for Hamisi, he wanted to make certain we saw ALL of the animals including leopards which are more difficult to find. Finding the animals was not enough, however, Hamisi made certain we had the opportunity for great photos, gave us great information on each animal we saw, and allowed us time to truly enjoy every animal we saw. I could write pages about Wild Root Safaris and Adventures and how they made my lifelong dream of an African safari a reality. Wild Root went beyond my expectations. I never imagined our trip being as truly amazing as it was. If you are considering a safari to Tanzania, look no further than Wild Root Safaris and Adventures. You will not be disappointed and you WILL have the adventure of a lifetime!

6 days climbing Kilimanjaro using Marangu route
I did a lot of studies pertaining to my trip to Africa, particularly in Safari & Mt Kilimanjaro. After a serious consideration, we made up our decision of engaging Wildroot Safaris and adventure as our tour operator based on our friend strong recommendations. I chose this company for a few reasons, but the foremost still come to the pricing. The price is reasonable for both the destination. We will greeted by their representative upon our arrival in Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to hotel by their luxury SUV , is in middle of the sunny day ( I am puzzle with the driver of turning on & off the air conditioning and wind down the window, perhaps they rather prefer to enjoy the nature air as most of the vehicle do. For Mt Kilimanjaro, we were greeted by Chief guide John and assisted by 2nd guide Kennedy. They were extremely experience and professional with a multiple times of guiding mountaineer to the summit, they are easy to deal with, knowledgeable and informative about their country and anything concerning with Mt Kilimanjaro. This really makes the trekking more fun and some small jokes for spontaneous laugh along the trail. this really makes the long hour flies. My friend and i managed to make it to the summit with the support of the guides, another buddy failed to make it due to personal health issue. He was advised to make the descent as the best option based on the current situation. They are medical well trained and are good in observation when you weren't do well, even if you thought you were. Kennedy and Robert keep motivated me and my friend so that we keep moving till the summit. They even offer to carry our bag just to make us not so burden and can walk easily. Another good point of them is they really very helpful which took few videos of me during the journey to the mountain. I m really appreciate it. I bring back lot of good memories to my country. If you are looking for a tour company for your Mt Kilimanjaro, without any hesitation, look no others way but to Wildroot Safaris. Choosing the right company for your hike with either make it or break it. I can assure you will have a great adventures for you to sign up with Wildroot Safaris.

Wildroot safari and Serengeti perfect combination.
We recently completed a seven day safari with Wild Roots a local Arusha company. Hamish the guide was outstanding, we saw the big 5 thanks to the persistence and knowledge and acute awareness of the surroundings. One day he starred driving for half a kilometer because he saw a tail of a lion up, there were 4 lions in that place. He knew the name of all animals and birds and their habits. We saw so many animals and beautiful birds. The accommodations were fantastic. The owner Mathew is a man of his word and he sees you personally before and after the safari. He answers all e-mails quickly and tries to adjust itinerary to your taste. I recommend this company without any reservations. Rene and Juanita

Everything beautifully organized by Wild Root, wonderful accomodation and astonishing variety of animals and birds seen in a very short time. 7 day/6 night safari
My wife and I booked with Wild Root for our honeymoon and had a fabulous experience! Our guide was Hamisi, he is very genuine, funny, looked after us well, and is knowledgeable. We did a 7 days 6 nights experience through Arusha, Tarangire, Ngorongoro, and central + northern serengeti. We saw every major animal we were hoping for except the rhino, which we understand is very rare. We even saw a river crossing in Northern serengeti! Thank you Wild Root! We will see you again soon.

        Incredible 6-day safari
My husband and I had an amazing time on our private 6-day safari! Mathew and his team put together a great itinerary for us as we got to experience a range of diverse habitats and see animals in different environments across the 4 places we visited (Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Lake Manyara). It was the perfect amount of time and we were lucky enough to see 108 species of animals (75 of which were bird species), including the elusive black rhino! We even unexpectedly saw huge herds of wildebeest migrating on their way to Ngorongoro Crater. Of course, we have to give an enormous amount of credit to our guide Hamisi, who was very knowledgeable and crucial to ensuring a positive safari experience. He had a great sense for where to find wildlife and could identify very quickly, as well as sharing a wealth of information about the animals and plants that we saw. We also had a great time just talking to him about his family and life in general during mealtimes. The chosen accommodations exceeded our expectations and were very comfortable. Our favorite was the Serengeti Heritage Camp which allowed us to see animals from our tent and hear them all around us at dusk and in the evenings. The food throughout the trip was surprisingly good with quite a few options as well. Overall, we had a wonderful safari and highly recommend Wild Root Safaris and Adventures to others. It was a trip of a lifetime and we would be thrilled to come back again!

        Kili hike and dance
This Lemosho Route to Uhuru Peak was with my group of 7 friends. The most difficult and highest climb so far for me and with the fantastic guidance and commitment by the guides, our team managed to achieve 100% success. The guides did what I felt the most encouraging was the team singing on the summit day their awesome voice was powerful and boosted our energy, where Elise and I were grasping for air, this was the push factor for us to reach Stellar Point and then to the Summit. Special thanks to big mama, Lucia, David, Mweta, Kenneth, Robert, Richard, Ezekiel and our personal supports Boney, Issac, Joyce, etc. Of course, many thanks too to Matthew for all his assistance and help in making our trip a fantastic experience.

        Killimanjaro hike n safari
A very hard slog on summit day but we managed to achieve 100% group success due hugely in part to the 200% support given by Wild Root guides and support staff. Special thanks to big mama, Lucia, my bro David Simba, Popstar Mweta Yanga, true warrior Masai Kenneth, Robert, Richard, Ezekiel and our personal supports Boney, Issac, Joy, etc. Of course, many thanks too to Matthew for all his assistance and help in making our trip a fantastic experience. Followed up with a great Safari experience too ( highlight definitely the Mara river crossing ) with Hussein n Mr Fantastic, who knew where to find the big 5 plus more.

Amazing Safari with Wild Root Safaris
This was the trip of a lifetime with 3 generations of our family. We stayed at lodges and tented camps that were friendly, comfortable, beautifully situated, and served excellent food. Matthew was extremely helpful and efficient from our first phone call to meeting us when we returned happy and exhilarated after our safari. He responded to changes in requests from different members of our group (located in Germany and the US, with different time zones) with great patience and efficiency! We had an amazing guide and driver, Langai who told great stories and gave a lot of information about the wildlife habitat and cultural customs of the area. The game viewing was amazing, including lots of giraffe, elephant, zebra, wildebeest, hippo, impala, etc, etc. and many beautiful birds, and several close up sightings of lions. Two of the most memorable incidents were seeing a (critically endangered) black rhino with a calf on our last day and a close encounter with an elephant as we rounded a bend in a narrow road one afternoon. Our guide, Langai, stopped the vehicle and the elephant turned around and walked towards us. Langai turned off the engine and told us to be still. The elephant kept coming and passed right beside the vehicle, his tusk inches from my arm beside the open window. He ambled by and turned behind the truck into the the dense growth beside the road. Truly a memorable trip. Thank you Matthew, Langai and Wild Roots Safari! Mary

Wonderful experience for first-time safari & pesonal highest elevation to Stella Point (5756m)
On the whole, my first travel to Africa went without major hitch, thanks to Wild Root & to Khoo Swee Chiow for connecting us. Safari brought 6 of us (we became good friends on trip) up close with many animals. Was indeed a humbling experience watching nature. Guide was very knowledgeable of the animals & did fantastic job of driving & wildlife-spotting while accommodating us to check the tyre (peeing safely close to Land Cruiser) now & then. Packed food was delicious. Can't thank guide & organisation behind him enough. I did find slightly irritating that, having asked & paid for individual room, both nights of accommodation providers tried to lump me with other family, but in end, i got my single room with thanks. Paul was our chief guide for Kilimanjaro, together with Noel, Eric, Joe & Fromes (hope spelling correct). I asked for personal guide & Lookmai (again, spelt based on guess) uncomplainingly carried my overweight backpack & took care of my needs. Being quite over the hill (agewise), Paul & Swee Chiow took care of my slowness by deploying specific guides to help me on critical days. On summit day, i made it to Stella Point, trekking 13½ hours from & back to high camp (4500m). I know i wouldn't have made this on my own steam. By grace of god, with Noel's & Lookmai's patience & help, am i able to reach Stella Pt & now gratefully write this review in safety of my home. An example of the great care taken: every night after dinner, our blood oxygen level & our physical well-being were checked & recorded (I've that record with me for posterity). Many, many thanks for the whole organisation from top to the many staff employed to set up tents, toilets, cook & serve food, carry our duffle bags, with a smile from their hearts. And to Swee Chiow for his generosity.

We reached the top of Kilimanjaro with the 6-day Marangu, it was an unforgettable experience and our guides made this experience go from dream to reality. They were extremely professional, but at the same time they reassured us and involved us, we felt part of a family.

        Jumbo mambo powa!
Went for a 6 days hike to Mt Kilimanjaro via the Machame route with Paul and his team of 72 whom consist of porters, guides and chef. Very vibrant and positive bunch of them who really takes very good care of us throughout the hike. They even provide us not only with their friendly hospitality but they even serve us delicious food. They also make Pili-pili (a spicy chilli chutney) upon my request which I really appreciate much. And they really want us to reach the summit which I did. After the hike, we went for Safari tour to see wild zebras, wildebeests, ox and we're so lucky to meet cheetah, lion and leopard too.

A fantastic company and fantastic experience! Our 8 day Lemosha trek was worry free thanks to the awesome team at Wild Roots. Our group of 11 was supported by a team of 46 expert guides, porters, chefs led by the one and only Lucia. This was the best trekking experience we have had thus far. The Wild Roots team was professional and knowledgeable. Our summit wouldn’t have been possible without their support. Thank you!!!!

We had a great experience with Wild Root. Mathew, the owner, was very responsive, and tailored the trip to our needs and requests, which wasn't easy given we were travelling with a four year old. Mbine (sp?), our guide, was very knowledgable about the wildlife and ecosystems, and great to be around! He also tailored our days to our requests and time constraints. I would use Wild Root again.

Thank you to both drivers Hussein and Fantastic from Wild Root who did a Fantastic job of driving us all over Serengeti Park and Ngogorongo Crater. As a result of their pursuit to give us a sighting of the 'Big 5' we had a memorable trip. Even managed to see the Mara River wildebeest migration due to the experience of these two drivers.
It was truly a memorable trip from viewpoint of Accommodation, Expertise, Experience, Committment, Dedication of Wild Root philosophy. Thanks Matthew and Team.

The safari with Wild Root Safaris was amazing! Everything was perfect - the communication before we left the UK was great, the transfers to and from the airport were very smooth, all the accommodation and camps were wonderful, the route worked really well, the amount of time in each place felt spot on (6 nights: 1 in Arusha, 2 Tarangire, 2 Serengeti and 1 Ngorogoro Crater), the jeep was comfortable & spacious, and our guide (Hamisi) was absolutely fantastic - completely reliable, incredibly experienced and knowledgable and great with both our older boys (18 & 21) and our 8yr old daughter. Plus we were lucky enough to see the Big 5 plus loads of other animals!
My 3 tips for others would be a) to take your own good quality binoculars (there was only 1 pair in the jeep so even though we had bought an additional pair it would have been good to have a pair each) and b) it's definitely worth having a proper camera with a decent zoom lense rather than just a phone and c) take lots of cash, US dollars & TZ shillings! ATMs are few and far between once you leave Arusha and they charge a lot for each withdrawal, plus everywhere we went were very keen to be paid in cash rather than on a card and you need lots for tips along the way too.

It was a wonderful and unforgettable safari trip with Wild Root Safaris! We have visited Tarangire National park, Serengeti NP and Ngorongoro Crater. Each of them is must visit if you’re in Tanzania. Overall the trip was very well organized with everything like it was agreed: we had beautiful places to stay at night, nice food and good experiences! )
We saw all big five, were watching the lions making love, leopard’s hunting, visited Masai village, made hundreds of amazing photos and videos and heard many good stories during the safari. ) Thank you very much, Mathew and Ray! You guys are highly recommended!!!

We met Phil, the manager, at the airport. He was so kind, and explained well about our safari tour. Emmanuel was our private safari guide. He was super kind, knowledgeable and always on time. He really helped to find animals and explained about the animals. It was amazing unforgettable memories for our honeymoon. Thanks to Phil and Emmanuel for making our honeymoon so special. We will definately visit again with wildroot safaris.
