Mpemba such an amazing driver host and awesome Tanzanite Museum.
Mpemba our driver was really informative about Arusha on the drive to the Tanzanite experience. The Tanzanite museum staff explained in full detail about how Tanzanite was made. Mpemba took us out to an amazing gallery to look around and to the food markets in Arusha after the Tanzanite experience tour. It was a really nice such a short funny little day. We were lucky to have such a nice driver Mpemba for this experience.

          Avoid it!
Disappointing experience, I wouldn't repeat it. The guide came to pick us up very late, asking us to pay for gas. During the whole day spent together there was a constant rush and insistence on paying for extra things.

          Wonderful experience
One of the best activities in my life! The activity was very worthy for the price and the program. It was a full day with a lot of different experiences consisting of culture, history, nature, physical activity and amazing food. Our guide Mpemba made our day even more interesting and full of new information of Tanzania. He didn’t refuse to help support us in our requests. The Masai experience was quite authentic and exciting, the hiking route was also breathtaking and last but not least the coffee experience was the best. The guys did their best to satisfy us. Especially for the food, it was delicious. A lot of food and very clean and fresh. Highly recommending it.

Trekking and safari experience with Alpine Chat
I had Kilimanjaro trekking and safari too. Trekking crew was good. Safari was not great, I clearly told initially itself that I need a guide with photographic experience/interests but I got a person who is of not that type. Accomodation during was great, we really liked it. I think for a person having no photography needs could have enjoyed it better. But Erik should have said a No to my ask for a guide with photographic experience instead of making us disappointed. Eric was very nice till end of trek but after that he was kind of interested in getting money but sincere service . Post tour support also not great, won't respond to calls/messages; pre tour he was chasing us.

Unforgettable City Tour and Tanzanite Shopping Experience with Mpemba
After being picked up from my hostel, Mpemba gave me a fantastic guided tour of the city, sharing his great knowledge and taking me to the best shops for souvenirs. The highlight was exploring the stunning tanzanite jewellery. Despite my small budget, Mpemba patiently took me to four shops, ensuring I learned about the history and process of these beautiful stones. When we found a piece within my price range, he made sure it was authentic and fairly priced. Thank you, Mpemba, for an unforgettable experience!

          Great experience of a lifetime
This was a highlight of this trip. Barrack, the village guide, was incredibly informative in explaining aspects of the Masai culture and the aspects displayed on this visit. This is a visit that needs to go on everyone's list if things to do when visiting Arusha.

Great opportunity to experience so much in a day
This was a great outing that provided great value for the cost. Three different experiences starting with the Masai village (this was worth it alone,!) followed by lunch and coffee and ending with hike to Materuni falls. Our guide M.Pemba was informative, engaging, courteous and added to the experience by providing a lot of history and explanation of customs. This outing covers so much in a day and is worth it.

          Professional scammer
Worst experience of my life, the price might be advantageous but it will never worth. Not professional ( especially if you are a solo traveller woman), not safe. The breaks of the car got broken and fortunately nothing of serious happened but very very dangerous. Money disappeared and last but not least unrespectful and not human staff. Not professional company. Really really disappointed.

          just do it and celebrate
Mpemba was our guide on this wonderful experience. We visited the Maasai village in the morning. Being able to be with them, learning about their culture first hand, and becoming part of their dances and clothing was amazing. Our guide gave us a good recommendation to bring gifts for the children of the village (cookies and sweets). That was definitely a great way to end the activity with them. When we finished, he took us to an almost hidden place on the side of a mountain so we could learn about and prepare our own coffee. It was a great activity and the food was delicious (we are vegetarians and it was a great relief to be able to eat well). To finish, we went to the Materuni waterfall. It was a little difficult because we went during the rainy season, the ground was slippery, but in any other season it should be easy, and even more so with our guide. Thanks to his shortcuts, we managed to cut a good part of the path. When we got to the waterfall, we even managed to get inside it. That was without a doubt the best cold shower I have ever taken in my life. The tour is an experience that you should take at least once in your life and get out of your comfort zone a little, after all you only live once.

Great trip with a great guide Mpemba. Thank you
We was with our guide Mpemba from Arusha. Everything was well prepared. We were well taken care of. The visit to the Masai village was a good lesson in the history and traditions of this tribe. The next interactive lesson - roasting coffee, was an interesting experience. At the end the cherry on the cake - the Miteruni waterfall. Recommended places and guide

An exciting event-filled all day activity!
We had a great time with Mpemba as our guide - very informative, helpful, and flexible regarding the day's activities! Be prepared for a long but eventfilled day if starting from Arusha (7am-8pm in our case, but we took it quite easy to get a good view of Kilimanjaro). We started with the Maasai village, which included several small activities, including traditional dancing and spear throwing. This felt very commercialized, but we definitely had a good time! Good hot lunch served together with the coffee experience, in a single location, which gave us a good understanding of the coffee making process, as they walk you through all of the steps in detail. Swimming at Materuni waterfall is much recommended, as the hike can be quite warm, and there's good potential for seeing the summit of Kilimanjaro and other views on the way, depending on the weather. Wear decent shoes, as there can be some rough and muddy parts - but I wouldn't call it a strenuous hike, so trainers should be OK. PS1: Make sure to bring quite a bit of extra cash - not required, but quite expected (gifts to Maasai children, Maasai and post-coffee souvenirs/crafts). The souvenirs are fairly high quality, so you might as well buy them here, but clearly tourist-priced. We also made some spontaneous purchases of fresh fruit and banana wine along the way. PS2: The washrooms we encountered were mostly squat style and occasionally very basic, so bring some toilet paper (if you're used to Western toilets) and hand sanitizer! If these two points sound OK, you'll have a great time!

I cannot recommend this tour enough! 10/10. I did it a month ago, on Feb 16th.

I reached out directly to Africa Pathways after seeing the tour online on third party websites. It was very useful to have direct contact as Alfred was exceptional in organising the tour for me and providing me all the information I need for the hike. Communication was consistent and clear on what I should be expecting.

On the day of the hike, I was picked up by my driver Milton and mountain guide Godwin. It was a ~2.5hrs drive from Moshi to Kilimanjaro, but I did not feel it because of the interesting information they were telling me about Tanzania and pointing out of animals en route.

Once we started the hike, Godwin’s knowledge about the region was incredible. I learnt a lot about the nature and plants too! Godwin was also a great photographer, taking cool videos and photos of me and the landscape.

While I successfully made it to the top, the last part to get to the top was the most challenging, but Godwin was so patient and helpful. “Polé polé” is something you’d hear, it means take it slow. It’s important to take it slow since oxygen is lighter.

All in all, the hike took me 6.5hrs, but it was the best feeling to sit at the top and have lunch with the views, so the challenge is 1000% worth it. And having Godwin as my guide made the experience wonderful!

Since the altitude is so high, I will advise you do what you can to minimise the symptoms of altitude sickness (doesn’t affect everyone but if it does, it can include headache, nausea and vomiting). Stay hydrated throughout the hike, eat very well before the hike, sleep well and if you’d like, take some Diamox (16hrs before hike I believe). If you do get altitude sickness, you should be fine once you get back down to sea level after your hike.

One more thing to note for any female solo travellers considering this tour, I was travelling solo, and felt very safe, cared for and respected throughout my trip! They’re a very friendly bunch!

Thank you to Alfred, Godwin and Milton for this wonderful experience. Look forward to coming back and doing the full hike to Uhuru one day.
