About
The seven day Machame variation is the ideal schedule for this route. On the 7 day Machame route, the trek from Barranco to Barafu is broken up into two days, allowing for a short day just prior to the summit attempt. This is important because summit day begins very early, around midnight, so climbers are sleep deprived going into the toughest day on the mountain. By having a short day beforehand, climbers can be better rested.
The 7 day Machame route is highly recommended and used by most prominent Kilimanjaro operators.

About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- asyas2990 contributionsNice agencyWe booked short tour with Nasri with his agency and they professionally responded all questions we had.. we spot all big 5 in Ngorongoro and we like the elephants families in Tarangire NPWritten 29 October 2024
- GrandTour653731893100 contributionsLast minute hotel change and no refund for hotel differenceThe night before our tour after receiving our full payment, agency informed us of the hotels for our tour, two-thirds of which were different from the hotels we had initially confirmed. The point is that when we booked our trip more than three months ago, agency clearly wrote the hotels to be stayed at and broke down our total cost into each individual item, including the hotel cost of $3,210. Therefore, it would be reasonable for us to know the actual cost of the replacement hotels and ask for a refund of the difference, if any. However, when we asked agency to provide the relevant invoice, agency only provided an invoice for one hotel and then never responded again. They never explained the reason for the hotel change. We had booked and paid a deposit more than three months in advance, but never received notice until the night before our trip. One of the hotels that was in the nature reserve was replaced with one in a town, so we had to spend an extra half day on transportation instead of game-driving. most importantly, when we wanted to know the actual cost of the hotel, they responded with ignorance and silence.Written 28 October 2024

- 205georgiosp0 contributionsHorror experience, don’t book!Only book with this company if you want a nightmare in your holiday. We booked a day trip to kilimanjaro using Machame route and this was our horror story: The driver and guide were totally unprepared and picked us up in arusha, shortly after we ran out of fuel as they had forgotten to tank and had to send someone to get fuel by foot.. followed by a tire adjustment , alunch pickup that they had not arranged prior to be ready, and 2 speeding tickets due to the reckless driving trying to recover time, the original 2h drive to kilimanjaro took actually 4h, arriving late to start the hike. For our surprise we got to marangu gate rather than machame, getting a totally different tour that the one advertised, meaning no scenic route like advertised and getting a tour that is cheaper with other providers..without prior alignment of this change. Once there, thinking the nightmare was over, we went up the first base with a guide who did not speak a single world nor guided us on the way, you are better off alone! Yet the worst part is once we started to head back down and it started to rain.. it was pouring, making the roads in the mountain totally muddy and slippery, so we wanted to wait a bit till it was less rainy and safe, yet the guide (Chris) insisted we could not wait as we needed to get to the gate before 6pm as otherwise they would had been charged an extra fee (when for starters we arrived late due to their lack of preparation).. this made us risk our safety and go down the slope totally puring, which ended in us falling several times and all our belongings/electronics getting damaged. Only book with them if you want a terrible operator that does not care about your safety, please do yourself a favour and look for another operator as there is many available with the same rates , dont put at risk your safety.Written 4 March 2024

We booked the Machame Route with Moorlands when in Arusha after contacting Nasr via WhatsApp. And that was a great decision…
Moorlands (and Nasr in particular) were super helpful, flexible, organised and welcoming from start to finish. We only had a couple of weeks in mainland Tanzania but were keen to fit in a lot: a Kilimanjaro climb, a Safari, the hot springs and a coffee tour (despite not having pre-booked anything).
We contacted Nasr on our first day, and within a couple of hours, almost our entire holiday was organised (with the Kilimanjaro climb starting the next day), and, best of all, at a very reasonable price.
Note: it’s easiest to organise most things via WhatsApp. If you want to reach out, Nasr’s number is: +255 65 807 0113
KILIMANJARO - MACHAME ROUTE
Amazing experience! We opted for the 7 day Machame route (ie tents not lodges) and ended up completing our climb in 6 days. Nasr then (free of charge) put us up in a (very nice!) hotel for the extra day while we waited to start our safari the following day.
Our main guides for the climb were John and Elly - and honestly, I could not recommend them enough. If you are looking to climb Kilimanjaro, I would specifically request these two guides, as they were 10/10 - so friendly, fun, experienced, motivated, as well as speaking great English and being very knowledgeable about the mountain.
Also a big shout out to our chef, assistant chef and porters who went over and beyond and made the whole thing possible.
Also, note that the tents / equipment provided are great quality and the team’s summit success rate is very good.
SAFARI
After our climb, we then did a 3 day safari package which included the Serengeti and Ngorongoro. Again, Nasr pulled everything together to perfectly fit our schedule and we had a perfect safari experience. Both the Serengeti and Ngorongoro are special, must-visit places in Tanzania, and the amount of animals you see is insane.
Overall: one of the best 2 weeks of my life, all made possible and organised by Moorlands - thanks again guys!!
