About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- coryne10110 contributionsTough to recommend but not all bad..I'd like to start by saying that our guide, Elias, and the accommodations were superb. The experience we had was definitely made better by Elias and the comfort, food quality and friendly staff at each of our stays. We also were able to participate in the main highlights of the 5 Day Gorilla and Wildlife tour - the Chimp and Gorilla trekking. And both of these are amazing opportunities and very memorable. However, our experience was riddled with stress and last minute changes. We had booked this tour (through Viator) several months in advance of our arrival. And although we received confirmation of the trip a week before hand, I had tried multiple times to contact the company regarding some questions with no response. As we were sitting in the NBO airport, departing for EBB - 12 hrs prior to our anticipated pick up - we get an email that the tour was cancelled. I then received a message on WhatsApp from Friendly Gorillas saying that they can book us a similar itinerary, we just have to pay through their website and that there is an additional credit card fee. So while this felt really sleazy and like a scam, we felt we needed to go along so that our trip wouldn't be lost. After payment went through, I was made aware that *I* was supposed to add in 4% to the final cost to cover that fee, rather than the charge just being applied to the payment. Now we had to add stopping at an ATM to get several hundreds of dollars to cover this extra cost. Apparently the ATM exchange rate and the accepted Uganda exchange rate are two different prices and what had seemed the correct number was $24 short of the total. We were told this needed to be made whole immediately so we didn't face any "complications" with our itinerary. After returning home and reviewing their website, the cost we paid (the Viator cost + extra fee) is close to what they charge for the Luxury accommodations. Our standard lodging was wonderful and I have no complaints there, but it definitely seems as though we got scammed. All of our activities were scheduled very last minute. We had to adapt to changes for a large part of the trip. Our Chimp trekking was postponed because they didn't sort out the reservations, and because of this our QENP park permits expired, preventing us from entering the park at the Isasha sector to see the Tree Climbing lions (that the guard told us were just inside the gate that day). While it wasn't all bad, and we did have some really amazing moments, there was a looming cloud over our time in Uganda that really dampened the experience.Written 5 February 2025
- pamelamC1690LY0 contributions5day Chimpanzee and Gorilla trekking! We did the 5 day Primate Safari with Chimpanzee and Gorilla trekking which was absolutely amazing! We got up close, watched the chimpanzees hunt and share their kill and followed a gorilla family of 6 with an infant. Our visit to the Batwa/Pygmy tribe was a wonderful cultural experience. Our guide Noah was knowlegable and informative about the area, culture and wildlife. Anthony was responsive via email, whatsapp and did a video call to finalize details. The cost was reasonable and accommodations were good. I recommend Friendly Gorillas!Written 25 November 2024
- Orest F0 contributionsWhat a Great adventure!Had a GREAT trip - literally best one ever from experienced travelers too. Check on the big 5 - done! I will never be able to accurately tell my family and friends all the beautiful and exciting things that I saw on this trip - pictures don’t do this trip justice! All important was our guide /driver - Thabit - who had the eagle eyes to find all these wonderful animals. We had an 8 day safari trip which included - Lake Manyara, Tarangire, and the highlight both Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater. These was our second trip to Africa and was so much different than the first - which we loved too.Written 18 November 2024
- Soluc0 contributions11 Day Safari Adventure! This was a bucket-list, 60th birthday trip, and one couple in our group was celebrating their honeymoon. I know how daunting it can be trying to find a reputable Safari company that can suit your needs. We researched extensively and are grateful that we booked with Friendly Gorilla Safaris! From the planning stages to the first meet and greet, Anthony, Brenda, and their team went above and beyond to ensure we had the trip of a lifetime! Friendly Gorilla Safaris gave us everything we asked for while keeping in mind our mid-range budget. They answered all our questions (we had a lot!) with professionalism and patience. Our itinerary was amazing with river rafting-exhilarating! Game drives-exciting! Chimp trek-fantastic! A primary school visit that warmed our hearts, and, of course, the gorilla trek, which was incredible! Accommodations were beautiful, and each stay offered a unique experience. Every lodge made sure to acknowledge the honeymooners, and one even had a cake for the birthday girl. Food was plentiful and delicious, and the people were warm and friendly. Eddie, our driver/guide, was fantastic. Our first game drive we saw the big 5! He was professional and fun, along with being an A+ driver! We loved Uganda and hope to visit again one day. Thank you, Eddie and Friendly Gorilla Safaris, for the trip of a lifetime!Written 10 November 2024
- lynnaQ4066DO0 contributionsDon't miss this adventure! Our guide Noah was very knowledgeable and had an amazing ability to spot the animals. We really enjoyed the boat trip in Queen Elizabeth Park. While watching the hippos in the water - a herd of elephants came down the hill to the water to drink. The chimpanzee trek was so memorable. They were very active and vocal because they were hunting that day. Following the gorillas is not to be missed. There was a baby that was so cute. The guides for the treks are amazing and really take the time to make sure you get to see the chimps and gorillas. We did a side trip to visit the Batwa village at Noah's suggestion and we are so glad we did. Our accommodation at Queen Elizabeth Park was just ok but the Ride 4 Woman Lodge at the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest was fabulous - we wished we had stayed there longer. We booked this 5 night Uganda tour with a 7 night Kenya/Tanzania safari. Anthony and Bliss were easy to book with, answered all our questions quickly and met us at the end of the tour for our feedback. I would highly recommend Friendly Gorillas tours.Written 1 November 2024

They tailored this to me at a competetive price. And it was great! Vincent is a great guide! He is very knowledgeable, but also curious to learn new things. I highly recommend Vincent as yout guide.Written 18 September 2024
- 806less0 contributionsUnforgetable UgandaComing to Uganda on business I just had to take the time to see the fantastic wildlife in Uganda. I found a perfect trip with Friendly Gorillas Safaris, a 4 day safari including Queen Elizabeth NP and Bwindi NP. We stated from Kampala and got to Queen Elizabeth NP on the first day starting with the boat tour of the Kazinga channel where we saw a great variety of wildlife and birds including Hippos and Buffalo as well as Water Bucks, African Eagles and Permanent Vultures. We then continued to safari in the park and saw a male Lion and Leopard as well as a Savil Cat, Kobs, Pumbas and others - the Big 4 on Day 1!!! After a pleasant stay overnight we went the Kalizu NP and trekked in to see the Chimpanzees. They were amazing, very active and LOTs of them including babies. We then tuned south to the Bwindi NP and stayed overnight at the Ride 4 a Woman lodge, a great initiative by and for African women. The Gorilla trekking was awesome, we met with a group of 11 that were very friendly and tolerant of our presence, a once in a lifetime experience. We then travelled though the Bwindi Impenetrable NP to Lake Bunyonyi for a boat cruise and over night stay, very relaxing at the African Tent Resort, very friendly, good food and a great fireside chat, before returning to Kampala This was a fantastic journey and delivered more than hoped for. My driver Eddie was awesome in his knowledge, help and guidance throughout the journey and more of a friend than just a driver – TOTALLY recommended. I hope to return to Uganda and do a lot more as there is so much more to experience. Thoroughly recommend Friendly Gorilla Safaris – 5 stars!!!!!Written 1 September 2024

We initially wanted to visit Uganda and Kenya but due to an emergency change in our travel plan, we decided to go to Uganda only. The experiences we had were more than we expected. I and my girlfriend really enjoyed the 3 days tour with Friendly Safaris. Our guide Ronald was very skilled and made sure we were totally satisfied.
The Uganda maize is something you MUST test when you visit Uganda.
We tracked gorillas from Rushaga which I find to be the best and most recommended region you should choose from.
thanks, friendly.

A must for any wildlife enthusiastic. It was such an unforgetable experience. The trekking insearch for the gorillas started at the bwindi impenetrable forest consetvation meeting point with a wonderful traditional welcome by the staff. All trekkers were segregated in to groups of 08 and were assigned to a see a particular family of gorillas. Trekking took us around 03hr of ascending the steep mountains to finally spot the big gentle beasts. It was such a awesome sight to have experienced.
At the meeting point, for those who require assistance in ascending and descending the mountain during the trekking and to help with their back packs, you could request to hire a local residence for a minimum cost of US20/= who will assit you throughout. Hiking sticks are avaiable free of cost. There will be 04 rangers escorting the group in to the mountains and at the end of the trekking once back at the meeting point depending on how you would want to appreciate them you could tip the head ranger. Do not forget to collect your memorabilia. An official certification of gorilla trekking.
Lake bunyonyi was where I headed to thereafter it was such a pictureque site to see. I would recommand Arcadia Cottages, as this place is at the cliff of the mountain with the view of the lake. Every cottage has the lake view and the cottages were exceptional amazing. The staff too were great.
The tour and the permits for the gorilla trekking was arranged by a company named "car rental uganda" info@carrentaluganda.com. Contact name is Mike. I had to provide the payment upfont for the 01 day permit US600/= which was paid online. Once he had your permit arranged for the day you would want to do the trekking the rest of the itinerary is based on your request. Lake bunyonyi is a must.
I would place 100% of my trust in Mike and the guide/driver who was George.
