About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- kctooo0 contributionsFlawlessI searched for months for my perfect Gorilla experience but couldn’t find it. Until I found Bamboo Ecotours and emailed them outlining my hoped for itinerary. Edison was great, promptly replying with options to suit my budget. And made the whole process so easy. Next I have to thank Jackson our guide. Our guide for our entire trip, he knew the country inside out and was eager to answer all our many questions about his beautiful home. He was always happy to make impromptu stops for photos. Can’t recommend these guys enough.Written 1 February 2025

The driver, the hotels, the food, and all of the people we met were all fantastic. The gorilla and chimp treks were AMAZING! Once in a lifetime experiences that we will never forget. Highly recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in having an unforgettable wildlife adventure with unique and comfortable local experiences along the way.Written 28 January 2025

- 16Lizards0 contributionsMemorable Experience of a LifetimeWhen we decided we wanted to take a gorilla trekking safari, I talked with a close friend who used Bamboo Ecotours several months earlier. He had nothing but good things to say about the entire experience, thus we decided to use Bamboo when we booked our three day safari. Am I glad we did! We can truthfully say there was not a single negative, or even 'OK' aspect of our trip. Everything was very positive and spectacular from the moment we first researched the different safaris until we were dropped back at our hotel in Kigali at the end of the safari. Bamboo owner Edison was very helpful during the entire process. We had many questions and concerns while deciding which safari to take, what hotel to choose and other questions. Edison always replied swiftly and was very helpful and thorough in explaining everything we needed to know! From the moment our driver, Jackson, picked us up at our hotel until he dropped us off three days later, we were taken on an experience of a lifetime! Jackson is friendly, experienced, and a safe driver. The restaurants chosen for our meals, and our hotel were all first rate. When we arrived at the Bwindi entrance, everything we needed to know was explained to us. We even had some locals entertain us with music and dancing before we ventured out. The hike into the forest to the gorillas is grueling for sure! But once we arrived at our gorilla family, all that effort more than paid off. If you've decided to take a gorilla trekking safari, Bamboo Ecotours will take you there with memories for a lifetime!Written 23 January 2025
- onemil20190 contributionsAwesome Uganda Gorilla & Golden Monkey Trekking ExperienceThis is a few months overdue, but I wanted to share that my husband and I really enjoyed our 3-day Gorilla Uganda Trek tour with Bamboo Ecotours. Everything went smoothly from our emails with owner Edison who was very helpful is assisting us with selecting the right trip, to our driver-guide, John who took care of us from the pick-up at our guest house in Kigali, the drive to Ichumbi Gorilla lodge, the drive to the Gorilla Trekking start at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to the Mgahinga National Park for Golden Minkey trekking, then back to Kigali to the airport. Thank you for a wonderful trip!Written 11 December 2024

- joardiant0 contributionsA dream come true for us, amazing gorilla trek and trip around Uganda & RwandaWe booked a 4-day tour with Bamboo Ecotours with the following itinerary: Kigali-Lake Kivu-Gorilla Trek @ Bwindi-Kisoro Coffee Tour. It was a big group of 7 of us, and we are really satisfied with the company and its staffs and definitely recommend booking a similar experience with them. Our guide/driver was Fred and he's been super kind and informative. The hotels that we are staying too have been incredible, and the highlight is our 2-night stay with Gorilla Leisure Lodge: super attentive and friendly staffs, and the warmer on the bed just really made our day.Written 2 November 2024
- F8118SQrebeccas0 contributionsBest time in UgandaI just completed a 5 day/4 night tour of western Uganda with Bamboo Ecotours. First of all, Western Uganda is just incredibly beautiful. Secondly, it is clear that the owner Edison and most of all my incredible, friendly, knowledgeable guide, Herbert, have such a love for the country and genuinely want you to enjoy it. He felt like a good friend from day 1. I felt extremely looked after. Highly recommend booking with this company (and bonus if you ask for Herbert).Written 25 October 2024
- X8232FQkays0 contributionsTrip of a Lifetime to Rwanda and Uganda!Big shout out to Bamboo Ecotours, Edison and Fred! Edison was so responsive, organized, professional. We wanted to do and see a lot during our 9-day tour in Rwanda and Uganda. Without hesitation, Edison planned our trip based on our dates and desired destinations which included some very busy days. The arrangements included reserving lodging based on our selections from several options that he provided, and obtaining the licenses for our requested dates for the Golden Monkey Trek in Volcanoes National Park, Gorilla Trek in Bwindi National Park in Uganda and Chimpanzee Trek in Kibale National Park in Uganda. A week before our trip, Edison provided the name and contact information for our tour guide, Fred, so we were able to communicate with him ahead of actually meeting him. Fred picked us up on time at our hotel in Kigali in a clean safari vehicle with plenty of water and power to charge our cell phones! There were a lot of long drives and Fred was a champion at driving for hours and navigating the many roads, many of which are narrow, winding, unpaved and rocky, and also have lots of obstacles with residents of the local communities walking, biking, motorbiking. At the end of every day, Fred managed to clean the vehicle and add fresh bottled water for the next day. Fred provided guidance when we arrived at the parks and at the border crossings, and we were always on time or ahead of schedule for each scheduled activity. Our one commentary is that based on the itinerary, we had a basic idea of what the next day would entail but would have liked more details to be provided in advance. Our tour, arranged by Edison, included visits to many national parks where we saw an abundance of animals in their natural habitats. It was very exciting! Because of the nature of the tour, driving from park to park, we were able to see some daily activities of the local people too. Our 9- day itinerary included the following countries and parks: Rwanda: the Ellen DeGeneres Centre for Conservation and Golden Monkey Trekking at Volcanoes National Park, and Akagera National Park for a boat cruise on Lake Ihema and night game drive. Uganda: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi National Park then Batwa Cultural Tour, in Queen Elizabeth National Park there were game drives and Kazinga boat cruise, Kibale National Park- Bigodi Community Tour, Chimpanzee Trekking, Lake Mburo National Park- day and night game drives. We had a great trip and will definitely recommend Bamboo Ecotours!Written 21 October 2024

- nicoled9930 contributionsGreat Experience! We had a great experience with Bamboo Ecotours. One of the reason we chose this tour company over others was definitely because of Edison! He was incredibly responsive, answering any questions we may have had and gave us advice on which parks to visit over others. We had our heart set on going to Mgahinga for gorilla trekking, and Edison was able to secure permits very last minute for us! A week before the trip Edison sent us a detailed itinerary as well as contact info for our guide, Fred. On the first day of our trip Fred picked us up right on time from our hotel lobby, where he then took us to the Genocide museum. The safari jeep was clean, with plenty of bottles of water, and the option to charge our phones. After that, he helped us cross the border into Uganda, after grabbing a local lunch, before checking into our lodge, Mutanda Lake Resort. We stayed there, because it was about an hour away from Mgahinga National Park -- where we were trekking. After our two night stay, Fred drove us back across the border, straight to the airport for our flight out of Kigali. Overall, the experience was very seamless and stress-free. If I had one critique it was that I wish knew a little more about the experience and what each day was going to entail. We had a rough idea, for example... leave at 6am, trek, etc. but sometimes we were looking for more info. For ex. when you start at Mgahinga there is a decent hike up to the front gate. We didn't know if this stretch of walking was the start of the gorilla trek, or where exactly where we were going. Admittedly, my husband and I are naturally quiet people, so perhaps we should have asked more questions. Other than that, the trip was great, and we felt we were in trusted and good hands with our guide, Fred. I would definitely recommend this company to my friends and family if they are planning a future trip!Written 12 October 2024
- W8424CXpamelac0 contributionsOne thing we loved about the gorilla trekking, besides the gorillas themselves, is that it wasn’t crowded.Bamboo Ecotours exceeded our expectations during our tour. From the very beginning, when planning our trip, Edison responded to our emails promptly. He also showed us the different accommodation options they offer and was very helpful with the visa process, staying in constant contact via WhatsApp and email. A week before our trip, Edison shared the name of our tour guide, which made us feel safe and prepared. Jackson, our guide, was the best we could have asked for. We arrived at Kigali airport and drove all the way to Uganda for our first stay. Along the way, Jackson pointed out many interesting insights about Kigali, and we even had a coffee stop (by the way, you have to try African coffee!). On our second day, Jackson took us to Bwindi National Park, where we met our trekking group. One thing we loved about the gorilla trekking, besides the gorillas themselves, is that it wasn’t crowded. Groups are split between 8 to 10 people, and each group visits a different gorilla family. This way, the gorillas don’t experience too much human interaction, and the experience feels more personal. From the moment you see your first gorilla, the one-hour time limit begins. We were accompanied by the guide, two park rangers, and there’s also an option to hire someone to help carry your belongings. After this, we went to our next hotel (which had incredible views of Lake Buyonyi) and enjoyed an amazing night. I just want to take a moment to thank both Jackson and Edison from Bamboo Ecotours for giving us the best experience.Written 9 October 2024
- KirstenAspiteri0 contributionsAn Unforgettable ExperienceBamboo Eco Tours was really professional and organised from the start. Edison was very quick to answer ALL and many of my questions and so quickly. Being two young females in a foreign country we were nervous however he made us feel really safe and assured. Our tour guide Herbert was amazing! Such a humble person always with a smile on his face and always happy to answer all of our questions, the guy was probably tired of our questions by the end, but we had lots of fun together. The tour was such an awesome experience. We did the 3 days Queen Elizabeth NP, chimp trekking (Kalinzu) and gorilla trekking (Mgahinga). The tour and accomodation we chose, Buffalo lodge and Lake Mutanda was incredible, we would recommend doing it in 4-5 days so you have time to relax at the accomodation, we felt we were in a little rush as there was a lot of driving to do to get from 1 park to the other not the guides fault however. We learnt so much and had such an unforgettable experience. Thank you Bamboo Eco ToursWritten 8 October 2024
- leannk9580 contributionsPerfect Start To Our Dream HoneymoonWe did the 3 day gorilla trek with bamboo eco tours. We talked to Edison months before our trip to help plan everything we wanted to do. We ended up going with gorilla trekking and golden monkeys. We were picked up by Fred in Rwanda and driven to Uganda. We had to go through customs in two different areas but Fred walked us through it and it was very easy. He was very knowledgeable about each town we drove through, was always willing to answer our questions, and letting us stretch our legs when we needed to. He made sure everything was good and made sure everything was perfectly arranged for each adventure. It was a wonderful trip. Thank you Fred and Edison for making our adventuring dreams come true.Written 7 October 2024

What an amazing experience with Bamboo Ecotours. I contacted Edison via WhatsApp and he helped answer all my questions and provided me with all the quotes I asked for with so much patience. I was deciding between a few routes and he gave me all the info I needed in a timely manner and gave me time to make my decision
I was sent a full itinerary and pdf with gorilla trekking dos and don’ts. About a week before the tour I was informed who my driver would be and was given their contact info.
I chose a fly in option and was given the finalized flight info 2 days before (as these are very small planes) along with confirmation that my driver was still the same person.
Upon arrival at Kihihi I was picked up by Vicent. He was honestly an amazing guide! The day before the tour we sat down to chat where he gave me some info about what to wear and also gave me some info on the gorillas and the way they live (I realized after that not all drivers were as knowledgeable as him about gorillas as the info he gave me was repeated on the trek by the actual gorilla trekking guide but it was new info to everyone else in my group). His tip to wear a longsleeve paid off as well as once you sit with the gorillas bugs are crawling all over you.
I really can’t say enough good things about this company and Vicent. They made this a truly unforgettable experience.

We booked for a 3 day gorilla trekking experience in Bwindi, but our trip was so excellent that we extended it to include chimp trekking in Kibale, which Bamboo Ecotours (Edison and his team) could not have been more helpful with.
Our guide/driver was Godfrey, who was excellent from start to finish. He drove safely for the very drives involved in the trip, and answered any and all questions about the areas that we drove through with expert knowledge. Whenever we wanted to take a photo of the spectacular landscapes he stopped the car, and even pointed out photo opportunities to us that we hadn’t spotted.
The gorilla experience itself exceeded all our expectations. The team who trek with you quickly located them, having sent scouts out earlier, and our hour with the gorillas was magical.
We were also amazed at the quality of the hotels we stayed in. We had limited expectations as we’d signed up for the ‘budget’ trip, but the Lake Mutanda resort, where we stayed for 2 nights during the gorilla trekking portion of the trip, was beautiful. The food and staff were excellent, and everything was arranged for us, from paddle boarding on the lake to packed lunches.
We cannot recommend this company enough, and owe a huge thank you to Edison and Godfrey for helping us make our trip so memorable.

We were picked up in Kigali by Godfrey who safely drove us to our Ichumbi Lodge which is next door to the entrance of gorilla trekking. The next day we left for gorilla trekking and we were lucky as it took less than an hour to find the gorillas. After spending an hour with the gorillas we headed back and then went to Mutanda Lake Resort where we took a boat cruise around the lake and went birdwatching with so many kingfishers. After staying overnight by the lake we then went Golden monkey trekking. 5 minutes into this trek we saw gorillas eating by the path! Afterwards it was another 90 minutes to reach the golden monkeys where we stayed an hour photographing them and they were curious to see us too. Finally, we returned to Kigali after one of the best trips we'd been on. Food was excellent throughout the whole trip and I'd definitely recommend this tour to anyone who asks me.

Amanya was an excellent tour guide. As my first time in east Africa and travelling alone as a female, I had my reservations but the trip was very smooth and Amanya was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions.
I was even able to sneak in a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial on the first day before we crossed the border to Uganda from Rwanda. I also participated in the community tour in Bwindi which was a neat experience. Proceeds of your trip will help the local community and they’re interested in seeing foreigners.
I had a midday flight in Kigali and they were able to get me to the airport in time (returning from Lake Bunyonyi).
I stayed at Inchumbi resort at Bwindi National Park and Bird’s Nest resort in Lake Bunyonyi. Both of which were very comfortable. The view at Bird’s Nest was quite a treat even though I only enjoyed one night stay there.
Edison was very responsive and thorough in answering my questions ahead of time such that I was prepared for the gorilla trekking and the other activities.
I would highly recommend Bamboo Ecotours.

My experience with Bamboo Ecotours was excellent! The initial communication with Edison was flawless; he was clear, organised and very quick to respond to all my enquires. He provided me with all relevant information which allowed me to be fully prepared for the trip - the entire booking process was very smooth.
My driver Godfrey was superb. Godfrey made me feel incredibly safe which was very important to me as a solo female traveller. Godfrey is professional, warm, friendly and very knowledgeable. He was very understanding when I changed my mind last minute on a few plans that we had originally organised. He is also very patient and would reassure me he was happy to stop whenever I wanted to take photos of scenic routes and would often encourage me to do so.
I will be recommending this company to anyone interested in gorilla trekking in Uganda - Thank you Bamboo Ecotours for such a wonderful experience!

I myself have worked in the tourism industry, and can honestly say that I have never been as impressed by the service I received then how I was looked after by Bamboo Ecotours.
My trip was unconventional, to say the least - firstly, I had to postpone my original booking with just a few hours' notice. Edison, who was my point of contact and helped organize my trip, could not have been more professional, accommodating and reassuring. He reorganized the same trip for me a few weeks later with no issues whatsoever.
When I eventually got to Uganda, I was met at the airport, late at night by my guide Herbert. He is an amazing man, super fun to be with and very interesting to chat with. You can tell the passion he has for the work he does and I know we will stay in touch for many years to come. He is an absolute credit to the company, and I am very lucky to have had him. There was also an incident at the end of my trip, where the airline meant that my departure was delayed until the next day - Herbert looked after me wonderfully, truly bringing new meaning to the phrase "going above and beyond."
In regards to the actual gorilla trek, it is more magical than can be described in words - it truly was the quickest hour of my life! The lodge I stayed in is one of the most beautiful places I have stayed in. Everyone there and throughout the trip was very friendly, kind and accommodating. Especially in the current climate, I would encourage anyone to support Bamboo Ecotours and have this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

We booked the tour with Edison, who was helpful and patient answering all of our questions related to the trek. We started in Kigali, then gorilla trekking in Bwindi, the Batwa experience in Mgahinga and ending in Kigali. Our driver Fred picked us up in the hotel with a big smile. He was extremely nice and professional. Throughout the duration of the tour, he made sure that we were always happy. He was a great resource on any questions that we had. Not only he was a very good and safe driver, but also a tremendous guide. For example, he accompanied us to the local market and introduced us to all the local vegetables, fruit, which was very interesting. Above all, he made sure that our gorilla trekking was an unforgettable experience. He took us to the orientation site, collected the permit and then took us to the point from where we started the trek. I would highly recommend Bamboo Ecotours offering highly reliable, professional service at very competitive price.

I went with Bamboo from Kigali to Bwindi to see the gorillas. It was all smooth -- friendly driver with a good car, nice hotel with full board and most importantly a well organized and exciting gorilla trek in Bwindi. Bamboo was good service and good value -- I recommend them!
