- joardiant0 contributionsA dream come true for us, amazing gorilla trek and trip around Uganda & RwandaWe booked a 4-day tour with Bamboo Ecotours with the following itinerary: Kigali-Lake Kivu-Gorilla Trek @ Bwindi-Kisoro Coffee Tour. It was a big group of 7 of us, and we are really satisfied with the company and its staffs and definitely recommend booking a similar experience with them. Our guide/driver was Fred and he's been super kind and informative. The hotels that we are staying too have been incredible, and the highlight is our 2-night stay with Gorilla Leisure Lodge: super attentive and friendly staffs, and the warmer on the bed just really made our day.Written 2 November 2024
- F8118SQrebeccas0 contributionsBest time in UgandaI just completed a 5 day/4 night tour of western Uganda with Bamboo Ecotours. First of all, Western Uganda is just incredibly beautiful. Secondly, it is clear that the owner Edison and most of all my incredible, friendly, knowledgeable guide, Herbert, have such a love for the country and genuinely want you to enjoy it. He felt like a good friend from day 1. I felt extremely looked after. Highly recommend booking with this company (and bonus if you ask for Herbert).Written 25 October 2024
- X8232FQkays0 contributionsTrip of a Lifetime to Rwanda and Uganda!Big shout out to Bamboo Ecotours, Edison and Fred! Edison was so responsive, organized, professional. We wanted to do and see a lot during our 9-day tour in Rwanda and Uganda. Without hesitation, Edison planned our trip based on our dates and desired destinations which included some very busy days. The arrangements included reserving lodging based on our selections from several options that he provided, and obtaining the licenses for our requested dates for the Golden Monkey Trek in Volcanoes National Park, Gorilla Trek in Bwindi National Park in Uganda and Chimpanzee Trek in Kibale National Park in Uganda. A week before our trip, Edison provided the name and contact information for our tour guide, Fred, so we were able to communicate with him ahead of actually meeting him. Fred picked us up on time at our hotel in Kigali in a clean safari vehicle with plenty of water and power to charge our cell phones! There were a lot of long drives and Fred was a champion at driving for hours and navigating the many roads, many of which are narrow, winding, unpaved and rocky, and also have lots of obstacles with residents of the local communities walking, biking, motorbiking. At the end of every day, Fred managed to clean the vehicle and add fresh bottled water for the next day. Fred provided guidance when we arrived at the parks and at the border crossings, and we were always on time or ahead of schedule for each scheduled activity. Our one commentary is that based on the itinerary, we had a basic idea of what the next day would entail but would have liked more details to be provided in advance. Our tour, arranged by Edison, included visits to many national parks where we saw an abundance of animals in their natural habitats. It was very exciting! Because of the nature of the tour, driving from park to park, we were able to see some daily activities of the local people too. Our 9- day itinerary included the following countries and parks: Rwanda: the Ellen DeGeneres Centre for Conservation and Golden Monkey Trekking at Volcanoes National Park, and Akagera National Park for a boat cruise on Lake Ihema and night game drive. Uganda: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi National Park then Batwa Cultural Tour, in Queen Elizabeth National Park there were game drives and Kazinga boat cruise, Kibale National Park- Bigodi Community Tour, Chimpanzee Trekking, Lake Mburo National Park- day and night game drives. We had a great trip and will definitely recommend Bamboo Ecotours!Written 21 October 2024

- alexandratZ4394MJ0 contributionsGorilla and chimp trekkingA fantastic 4 day trip with Bamboo Ecotours with gorilla and chimp trekking! Everything was so well organised with Edison quickly responding to my various options for gorilla trekking dates. Amanya was an excellent guide - very funny, engaging and clearly loves introducing us to his country. Will definitely start planning the next trip..Written 20 October 2024
- nicoled9930 contributionsGreat Experience! We had a great experience with Bamboo Ecotours. One of the reason we chose this tour company over others was definitely because of Edison! He was incredibly responsive, answering any questions we may have had and gave us advice on which parks to visit over others. We had our heart set on going to Mgahinga for gorilla trekking, and Edison was able to secure permits very last minute for us! A week before the trip Edison sent us a detailed itinerary as well as contact info for our guide, Fred. On the first day of our trip Fred picked us up right on time from our hotel lobby, where he then took us to the Genocide museum. The safari jeep was clean, with plenty of bottles of water, and the option to charge our phones. After that, he helped us cross the border into Uganda, after grabbing a local lunch, before checking into our lodge, Mutanda Lake Resort. We stayed there, because it was about an hour away from Mgahinga National Park -- where we were trekking. After our two night stay, Fred drove us back across the border, straight to the airport for our flight out of Kigali. Overall, the experience was very seamless and stress-free. If I had one critique it was that I wish knew a little more about the experience and what each day was going to entail. We had a rough idea, for example... leave at 6am, trek, etc. but sometimes we were looking for more info. For ex. when you start at Mgahinga there is a decent hike up to the front gate. We didn't know if this stretch of walking was the start of the gorilla trek, or where exactly where we were going. Admittedly, my husband and I are naturally quiet people, so perhaps we should have asked more questions. Other than that, the trip was great, and we felt we were in trusted and good hands with our guide, Fred. I would definitely recommend this company to my friends and family if they are planning a future trip!Written 12 October 2024
- KirstenAspiteri0 contributionsAn Unforgettable ExperienceBamboo Eco Tours was really professional and organised from the start. Edison was very quick to answer ALL and many of my questions and so quickly. Being two young females in a foreign country we were nervous however he made us feel really safe and assured. Our tour guide Herbert was amazing! Such a humble person always with a smile on his face and always happy to answer all of our questions, the guy was probably tired of our questions by the end, but we had lots of fun together. The tour was such an awesome experience. We did the 3 days Queen Elizabeth NP, chimp trekking (Kalinzu) and gorilla trekking (Mgahinga). The tour and accomodation we chose, Buffalo lodge and Lake Mutanda was incredible, we would recommend doing it in 4-5 days so you have time to relax at the accomodation, we felt we were in a little rush as there was a lot of driving to do to get from 1 park to the other not the guides fault however. We learnt so much and had such an unforgettable experience. Thank you Bamboo Eco ToursWritten 8 October 2024
- leannk9580 contributionsPerfect Start To Our Dream HoneymoonWe did the 3 day gorilla trek with bamboo eco tours. We talked to Edison months before our trip to help plan everything we wanted to do. We ended up going with gorilla trekking and golden monkeys. We were picked up by Fred in Rwanda and driven to Uganda. We had to go through customs in two different areas but Fred walked us through it and it was very easy. He was very knowledgeable about each town we drove through, was always willing to answer our questions, and letting us stretch our legs when we needed to. He made sure everything was good and made sure everything was perfectly arranged for each adventure. It was a wonderful trip. Thank you Fred and Edison for making our adventuring dreams come true.Written 7 October 2024
- Katherine F0 contributionsHighly recommendWhat an amazing experience with Bamboo Ecotours. I contacted Edison via WhatsApp and he helped answer all my questions and provided me with all the quotes I asked for with so much patience. I was deciding between a few routes and he gave me all the info I needed in a timely manner and gave me time to make my decision I was sent a full itinerary and pdf with gorilla trekking dos and don’ts. About a week before the tour I was informed who my driver would be and was given their contact info. I chose a fly in option and was given the finalized flight info 2 days before (as these are very small planes) along with confirmation that my driver was still the same person. Upon arrival at Kihihi I was picked up by Vicent. He was honestly an amazing guide! The day before the tour we sat down to chat where he gave me some info about what to wear and also gave me some info on the gorillas and the way they live (I realized after that not all drivers were as knowledgeable as him about gorillas as the info he gave me was repeated on the trek by the actual gorilla trekking guide but it was new info to everyone else in my group). His tip to wear a longsleeve paid off as well as once you sit with the gorillas bugs are crawling all over you. I really can’t say enough good things about this company and Vicent. They made this a truly unforgettable experience.Written 30 September 2024

- N1462EDnickw0 contributionsWow, Wow, WowFirst of all - Bamboo Eco Tours. I chose Bamboo based on reviews on here so I can only reiterate what others have said. Professional, responsive to questions, easy to work with and Fred was a great guide in a far off land. That said - I was still very anxious when I paid that first deposit to an account in Uganda. I needn't have worried. The whole holiday was far easier to arrange with Bamboo than dealing with well known ABTA holiday businesses in the UK. Note that Bamboo can setup a bespoke tour for you - ours was not listed for the title of the review but we did the 6-Day Gorillas, Wildlife, and Chimp Trek at Kalinzu Forest. Transportation was great and comfortable - but hold on when on the unmade roads! Then Uganda itself... the trip was for my wife's 60th birthday. She wanted a safari and I had gorillas on top of my bucket list since the 80's after *that* film came out. The gorillas were a highlight of our lives. It was a tough walk but to spend one hour with a group was breath taking. We spent most of the time 10 meters away as per the rules but rules do not work when a gorilla just runs past in front of you or pops up out of the forest out of nowhere (I have a photo but my new camera focussed on the leaves and there was no chance of another shot). Safari was amazing and we were lucky to watch a pride of 6 lions waking up to the rising sun as well as baboons, meerkats and warthogs lining up with their children at 6pm to watch the sun go down. I know humans like sunsets but to watch animals do the same was a complete unknown to me and makes me think of "early man" watching a sunset and wondering if the sun will come back. One recommendation - if you are going to Queen Elizabeth National Park and you have an option of Buffalo Safari Lodge I definitely recommend it - best accommodation of the visit by far. When booking I was just focussed on the gorillas and a few days safari. A few days in, once we had seen the beauty of Uganda, I wished I had booked longer and gone further north - but that can be for another day.Written 21 September 2024

Bamboo Ecotours exceeded our expectations during our tour. From the very beginning, when planning our trip, Edison responded to our emails promptly. He also showed us the different accommodation options they offer and was very helpful with the visa process, staying in constant contact via WhatsApp and email.
A week before our trip, Edison shared the name of our tour guide, which made us feel safe and prepared. Jackson, our guide, was the best we could have asked for. We arrived at Kigali airport and drove all the way to Uganda for our first stay. Along the way, Jackson pointed out many interesting insights about Kigali, and we even had a coffee stop (by the way, you have to try African coffee!).
On our second day, Jackson took us to Bwindi National Park, where we met our trekking group. One thing we loved about the gorilla trekking, besides the gorillas themselves, is that it wasn’t crowded. Groups are split between 8 to 10 people, and each group visits a different gorilla family. This way, the gorillas don’t experience too much human interaction, and the experience feels more personal. From the moment you see your first gorilla, the one-hour time limit begins. We were accompanied by the guide, two park rangers, and there’s also an option to hire someone to help carry your belongings.
After this, we went to our next hotel (which had incredible views of Lake Buyonyi) and enjoyed an amazing night.
I just want to take a moment to thank both Jackson and Edison from Bamboo Ecotours for giving us the best experience.

Absolutely phenomenal from start to finish. Edison was so fast to respond to all of our (many many) questions and send in depth information well in advance, including what to expect, what to pack, what we would need to cross the boarder from Rwanda to Uganda and back (vaccines, visas etc), and contact information for our guide, Jackson. Jackson made our trip the absolute best experience possible. He was extremely friendly and knowledgable, answering all of our questions along the way.
We booked the 3 day gorilla trek and golden monkey hike with coffee tour:
Notes: bring small American cash if you can as it is accepted/expected everywhere.
We landed in Kigali at 7am with a very quick walk through customs.
We had a quick stop for breakfast at Bourbon Coffee at the airport and grabbed a sandwich for the road.
Jackson picked us up right after our breakfast (he knows the area well and can make great recommendations for breakfast and lunch stops).
We made a stop at the Genocide Memorial which should not be missed. It was extremely emotional walking through the museum and learning more about the cold history of the Rwandan genocide and we really appreciated having time to take it all in.
We continued our drive through to our coffee tour in Uganda where we saw first hand the process of coffee making from field to cup. The family even let us try our hand at processing and making our own coffee from freshly picked beans through to roasting. The coffee was fantastic and we bought a few bags ourselves.
We then headed to Rushaga Gorilla Lodge which was hands down one of the most beautiful accommodations we have had the privilege of staying at.
We had an early morning start (7am) to head to the Gorilla trekking. The Batwa people started us off with a cultural dance to get everyone in the mood and then we were off following our guides with directions from our trackers. We hiked for just under 6 hours. These hikes are not "hard" but there is some marsh, some steep inclines and it is very wise to bring proper high ankle hiking boots and gaters to protect against mud, water, ants and other jungle funs. The gorillas were unbelievable, a true once in a lifetime experience. The guides answered all of our questions and helped us make the most of our hour with the family of 12 including several babies.
We took a quick lunch break hillside after exiting the jungle, taking in the stunning views. After getting back we thanked our guides and headed back to the lodge, taking time to pickup some souvenirs from the locals.
We had a relaxing afternoon poolside and enjoyed some afternoon relaxing on the deck of our jungle cabin.
The dinners are the lodge were fantastic and lunch and breakfast were also provided. (They over feed you for sure so no worries about food on this trip!)
Our next morning we started at 5am to drive through to Mgahinga Gorilla National park (a part of the Virunga mountain range) to hike to see the golden monkeys. The hike again took us through jaw dropping scenery. You can also view gorillas here or climb to the top of the mountain even. The hike took roughly 5 hours and again we had one hour with the monkeys as they jumped through the trees and came down to check out what we were doing.
We took a lunch break in the town with Jackson on the way back enjoying some rolex and vegetable curry which were fantastic. We picked up some more local coffee here too before starting our 4 hour drive back to Kigali.
All in all this was hands down the BEST tour company we could have chosen for sure and we will most definitely be back again!

We booked 2 days of Gorilla Trekking and 1 day of Golden Monkey Trekking through Bamboo Ecotours and it was fabulous. Our planning from the USA was seamless with Edison. He was very responsive and clear with his messaging and answered all the questions we had prior to the trip. He also arranged for our Gorilla Trekking permits. We flew into Kigali and our driver, Godfrey, met us at the airport and drove us into Uganda to our first lodge, Nkuringo Gorilla Lodge (which was absolutely amazing!). Godrey was so great and took good care of us while transporting us to our various treks and then back to Kigali. I have absolutely zero complaints and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Bamboo Ecotours to anyone interested in Gorilla Trekking!
