- P9462GElindam0 contributionsTwo Wonderful Days With SeizoIf you are looking for a guide to help you navigate Tokyo and Yokahama, Japan, look no further. You will not find a better guide than Seizo Kamiuto. We booked Seizo about two months before our trip. We corresponded back and forth about what we wanted to see. He offered us suggestions, and after we had reached an agreement, he met us upon our arrival at the cruise port of Yokohama and accompanied us by train to Tokyo. He was always punctual and dependable. He even took us back to the ship in Yokohama both nights that we were there. He was flawless in his ability to guide us through the east side and west side sights of the city on successive days. He is very knowledgable about Japan’s history, and his English is very good. He is also smart, savvy and experienced. He was able to give us the background of whatever we were seeing. He was incredibly helpful with the subway transportation system, which allowed us to navigate all its complexities without standing in lines or needing to study maps, etc. We whizzed through. The last thing we wanted to be doing was to drop time trying to find the right train or connecting train in our limited time there. Seizo was right there with us every step of the way. The full-day itineraries he carefully chose of various sights, gardens and museums were wonderful. If we wanted to do something slightly different he would present us with options of how to do those things instead of or in addition to what he had set. Seizo was helpful in so many ways on our two day stay. It would have been impossible to visit the number of excellent sights that we saw with a less experienced guide. He was sensitive to our needs and wishes. He provided historical contexts to what we were experiencing, and he shared with us the appropriate customs of his country, i.e., while visiting temples, shrines, and classic Japanese tea houses. Experiencing the culture and beauty of Tokyo was so easy, rewarding and easy with Seizo. We highly recommend him!Written 22 January 2025

It was my son‘s birthday the day we took the tour, and Kaeko planned a fantastic lunch for us right in the heart of Kiyomizu. This day was very memorable. Beautiful area of Japan and amazing views from the Island itself. But what really made the tour stand out for us was our tour guide An. She was so considerate and informative we just learned so much about the history at the area from her. She was even willing to stay beyond the 6 hours to help us complete the items on the tour. And to help us ensure we had the right trains should get back to Yokohama. She really made the day enjoyable and complete for us. Highly recommend the tour and unquestionably recommend touring with An if she is available.Written 21 January 2025

We just took this tour with Yumi, and it was honestly one of the highlights of our Japan trip. Nikko it's truly beautiful and Yumi went above and beyond to make sure we were able to experience as much as possible. We unfortunately miscalculated the fact that we should had bought our train tickets from Tokyo in advance and they were sold out for the time we wanted, so we didn't arrive to Nikko until an hour after scheduled. Nevertheless Yumi was very accommodated and we were still able to do everything in our schedule and some extras. We did ended up booking a taxi (which is extra) and it was great especially since it rain that morning while we were visiting the waterfalls. I recommend this tour to anyone who wants to visit Nikko you won't regret it. The pics honestly don't do justice.

My tour guide was Yumi Aoyama. When I told her that I would be 45 min late due to missing my train, she couldn't have been more kind and understanding. At Nikko station Yumi greeted me with big smile and a warmth that immediately set me at ease after the stress of the morning. Yumi planned a wonderful itinerary that included all of my requested spots that were feasible in the time allotted. I should also note she had no problems adjusting the end time of my tour so that I still got my full 6 hours. Yumi was knowledgeable, organized and great company. Touring Nikko with her was great fun. At the end of the tour, she made me an origami crane as a gift and waited at the train station until my train departed, wavimg me off until my train was out of view. She definitely made my trip to Nikko very special.

If you're on the fence about whether to hire a guide in Nikko, do it! We had one day to experience the beauty and culture of this area (we took a morning train up from Tokyo and returned in the evening) and our guide, Yoko, helped us make the most of every minute! From the time we booked the tour, she communicated clearly, offered options, tailored the itinerary to reflect our preferences, met us at the train station and took us on a magical six-hour journey. (Ask about Monkey Magic!) What I appreciated most about her, however, was her willingness to share personal stories that helped us better understand the people, traditions and customs of Japan. Well worth the investment!

I am so happy that I decided to book this tour while I was in Nikko. I had Yumi as my guide, and she consistently went above and beyond to make my tour the best it could be. She was so accomodating when it came to my gluten allergy, was so lovely to talk to, gave me so much great information about all of the places we saw, and was just a fantastic guide who was joyful, kind and enthusiastic. She even communicated with me beforehand about the itinerary, my allergy, and what sites I wanted to see, which relieved my anxieties immensely.
I was originally hesitant to book a tour since I am a college student with a smaller budget, but it was worth every penny. This tour made my time in Nikko so much more enriching and exciting.
A huge, huge thank you to Yumi for such an amazing day. I hope to be back soon!

Our trip to Nikko and visit to Toshogu site was a memorable one with our guide Ichi. He met us early in the morning and pre-arranged park passes for us which avoided
queues. The itinerary he prepared was well thought out and timed, and we covered a lot of ground in the limited time but did not feel rushed. In addition to the main historical features he also provided insight into the cultural significance of this site and also some interesting observations.
We would have no hesitation recommending JGA and Ichi for providing this service.

Dear my guest, thank you for your kind note. I really appreciate it. I am honored to have been your guide in Nikko. Conversation about the relationship among Hinduism, Buddhism and Shitoism was very stimulating, which encourages me to study it more. I also hope that rest of your trip in Japan will be at least as memorable as Nikko.
Best Regards
Ichi

My guide Yuki-san was amazing!! She went to so much effort to provide copies of information and tailored the day to my desired itinerary brilliantly. Her English was great and her knowledge about each attraction was extraordinary. A retired teacher, Yuki-san was physically fit and happy to hike the nature trail with me. We had a fabulous coffee stop at lake Chuzenji and a lovely lunch overlooking Ryuzu falls. I can highly recommend Yuki san and this trip.

Nikko is such a beautiful city, we are so glad we made the trip. Yuki was our guide and was so knowledgeable, sweet and informative. Before being a guide, Yuki was a teacher, which shows as her way of conveying insights about the history of the town is interesting and fun to learn. We took the ~ two hour train ride from Tokyo to Nikko station, where we met Yuki. Before going, Yuki suggested that we could hire a taxi in order to see more sights. We are so glad we did. We hired the car for the first 3 hours, for about USD $150.00. The car allowed us to see probably twice as many things as we would have seen, had we only used the bus. The bus only goes so high, so with the car we were able to see two lakes and three waterfalls with the car. Afterward, we went to the town where we had lunch and proceeded to Futurasan shrine, Toshogu shrine, Rinnoji temple, and Shikyo bridge. Ryuzu falls were really pretty and allowed a shaded walk in the woods which was very nice. Without the car we would have only been able to go to Kegon waterfall and Chuzenji lake, which were really pretty, but with only 1 day in Nikko we decided to rent the car to make the most of seeing things. While up in the mountains, the driver saw a rare sight, Macaque monkeys running and jumping in the woods, it was such a cool and special moment. You don't need the car to have a great time in Nikko, but with it we saw so many things and even still got to walk and hike a lot. Nikko is so beautiful, with trees and mountains. Yuki taught us so much about the town's history and founding. We would love to go back and spend a few days there. Highly recommend to take a long day or more relaxing two days in Nikko. Yuki was the best guide we could ask for, we feel so lucky to have had such a wonderful experience.

Thank you for the impressive review with vivid descriptions of the tour, which tell how amazing and beautiful Nikko can be. Karen-san, our tour guide, truly made our Nikko day tour the highlight of our 10 day trip to Japan. Her advice and explanations about the history of the various locations (sightseeing, cultural and historic) delivered an insight into the magic of Nikko.
Karen-san was incredibly flexible and responsive to our travel and planning requests, including creating a schedule unique to our interests and including a large range of sights to visit, including small detours to lesser known sites, details about train platforms and timetables, weather, dinner recommendations and more.
Temples, lakes, shrines, bridges and rivers, and the dusting of snow - A magical experience!

We enjoyed the tour very much, however, there were some things that could have been handled better that would have made this a better tour.
Our tour guide, Yoshii, was personable and knowledgeable, however, he seemed to be rushing us throughout the entire tour. I didn't feel like I could stop and enjoy our surroundings at any time, we always had to keep going, going, going. He also didn't ask us at any time if anyone needed to use the restroom, we always had to be the one to ask to stop. From the moment we arrived when we barely stepped off the train and had to run to the bus stop, to the end of the tour when he rushed us off the bus and barely said "bye" before he ran to catch his own train. I'm not sure but it seemed like he had a personal engagement to get to which is why we were being rushed throughout the entire day. When we were at Kegon Falls, Yoshii hurried us when we wanted to stop at the gift shop. My daughter wanted to get a souvenir coin but she felt like she couldn't because Yoshii was standing over her and rushing her...so she just left. But now she feels so sad because she didn't get a coin and she doesn't know if or when she will be able to return to Kegon Falls or Nikko.
Yoshii also could have been better prepared and communicated things to us earlier regarding the bus, snacks, etc. He emailed me at around 19:40 the night before our tour, telling me that we would not have time for lunch during our tour so we should bring snacks to eat while touring. That was not a problem, however, I would have appreciated earlier notice so that we would have time to purchase the snacks as we were planning to leave our hotel at 6:00 the next morning. So we had to leave even earlier to stop at the convenience store to buy snacks.
The biggest frustration was not being prepared for the bus. It would have been nice for Yoshii to find out and tell us approximately how much the total cost would be for the bus (say something like 4000 yen) and to have enough funds loaded onto our IC cards before we arrived. That way, getting on and off the bus would have been so much easier and quicker. Instead we were causing delay and irritation to the bus drivers and other passengers as we were struggling to find enough cash for each bus ride.
However, Yoshii did take us to the sites that we requested and was knowledgeable
about each site, which I appreciated.

Jack is our tour guide and he is excellent! He is a Japanese who can speak fluent English, and has very deep knowledge of everything Nikko. He told us lots of stories about the history of the Royal family; and brought us to different places, and even rent a car and drove for us to maximize the time.
Highly recommend Jack as the tour guide!
