Lake Biwa and traditional lunch
We have just spent the best part of a day with Misako on a cycling tour of Lake Biwa, which is just on the other side of the mountains 40 minutes E of Kyoto. Misako was informative, knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour. The town of Shiga is quiet and it was relaxing cycling beside the lake and between the fields of rice and soy beans. It is mostly flat but the electric bikes helped “with a little push” on our way up the hill for lake views and lunch. The tour also included a farmhouse lunch. We met our hostess Mrs Ikai-san in her bountiful garden. We even helped harvest vegetables for lunch. We were amazed at the quantity and variety of produce she is able to grow. We were then treated to a magnificent “farm to table” lunch in Mr and Mrs Ikai-san’s lovely traditional home with one of their beautiful daughters. The family were very warm and inviting. They were interested in us and happy to chat about themselves and their culture. They made us feel very welcome. Misako did a great job of interpreting for us all. The tour was recommended to us and it certainly exceeded our expectations.

Awesome day at Lake Biwa
Sep 2017 • Couples
This bike tour was the highlight of our trip, we were met at Shiga train station by our guide Shino, our bike ride started by a leisurely ride along the banks of Lake Biwa ( the electric bikes are great) we stopped along the lake and met up with Mr Hamaguchi who has lived their his whole life, then we cycled around the rice paddies and gardens ending up having a traditional lunch with Mrs Ikai and her family, I will definitely recommend to every that goes to Japan to do this tour, Thank you Hiromi and Shino for the all the pictures you took and sent to us From Alison, Simon ,Sandy & John a very big thank and thanks for the great memories :)

Hi, thank you for posting the wonderful review. We really appreciate your joining the tour and still reminiscing about our adorable host families. The tour ended up with the strong wind, but it was such a lovely day. We hope your dearest mother enjoyed the photos from the tour. Wishing you all the best from Hiromi & Shino
