A great insight into how local communites are revitalizing their area!
Such a unique experience that I would recommend to those wanting to get a true look into how the 2011 events affected the local area. I felt completely safe the entire time. The guide was knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions we had. The trip had a packed schedule, but without feeling rushed. It was wonderful to interact with locals and have the change to support their ventures and local businesses. I will definitely be coming back to the area in the future!

Insightful Tour of 311 Earthquake Recovery
An amazing experience! We were deeply impressed by the town's recovery after the 311 earthquake. As we walked through the center, we saw beautiful artwork that enhanced our understanding. We also learned fascinating stories and insights about the town's history. This tour was truly extraordinary and left us with a profound appreciation for the community's resilience and spirit.

A glimpse at Fukushima with locals
During this tour we got the opportunity to meet a lot of local people living in the areas closer to Fukushima nuclear power plant. I had visited the area back in 2019, it was very much empty. Recently some towns re-opened, I was happily surprised to see that it has changed a lot since then! It is great to see the initiatives and how local people who came back are trying their best efforts to revitalise the area! Apart from the interesting discussion we had with locals, the Tomioka historical museum, displaying exhibits from the 2011 earthquake, was also a realmy good place to learn more things.

Must do for those who wan to explore Fukushima area
This tour is a must do for those who want to explore Fukushima area. I was very interested on going to this area in Japan, but it is still very difficult to move around. The thour was perfect not also because we learnt what happened on this area during and after the disaster, but also because you have the opportunity to know how the area is being recovered. The high point of the trip is that you are introduced to some of the residents and also to one of the workers who was in the reactor of Fukushima plants. Their testimony were spechless. And all the time there's somebody translating everything in English for your comprehension.

Journey of Empathy: Exploring Fukushima's Resilience and Recovery
My visit to Fukushima left a profound impression. Through direct conversations with former personnel from the nuclear power plant and interactions with residents in Tomioka, Okuma, and Futaba towns, I was able to witness the real situation on the ground. Engaging with the local community allowed me to hear their voices firsthand and share in their emotions and concerns, providing a more tangible understanding of the challenges and aspirations related to the region's recovery. On the other hand, I also witnessed the strong determination and unity of the local people, feeling a positive energy towards rebuilding. This experience went beyond mere tourism, becoming a deep human story and a platform for empathy

Please visit Fukushima if you have the chance!
Wonderful opportunity to travel up north to Fukushima prefecture and learn first hand about what exactly happened on March 11th 2011. I went to the TEPCO decommissioning museum and learned how the nuclear accident happened. Then, I had the chance to visit the archive museum of a town neighboring the Fukushima Daiichi power plant. I was able to see artifacts and truly see how the world stopped on March 11th 2011 in this area. This area was devastated and inhabitable for almost 10 years. And now 13 years later, there were reminders everywhere of what happened. But this isn’t the end of story. Towns like Futaba and Okuma are working hard to increase their populations and restart their agricultural exports. I was happy to do this tour and I want Fukushima to succeed and I will definitely be back. Please visit Fukushima if you have the chance! You won’t regret it!

      Highly recommended!
I enjoyed this tour in January 2024 and recommend it to anyone wanting to learn more about Fukushima! In the years since the tragic events in 2011, many people have come to have had a negative impression when thinking about Fukushima. For many, the only time they may have ever heard about this large prefecture is in relation to the damage caused by the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster. But if you visit today, you can see a far more positive story. Communities rebuilding, people preserving and celebrating local history, and new businesses opening. If you want to better understand both sides of the recent story of Fukushima, I highly recommend this tour. I learned a lot about the events which occurred in 2011 and the contamination which eventuated. I was able to speak with people who have moved back into the rehabilitated areas, both locals returning home and new residents who have chosen to be a part of the new community. I also was able to speak with one of the managers who was in the Daiichi plant in 2011 and learned a lot about the events which occurred. Finally we also enjoyed some of the local foods, like fresh strawberries. The guide was fantastic and the hotel we stayed in was very comfortable. Everything was explained to me in English, so there were no language problems. I enjoyed it a lot!

      fukushima two day tour
it was a great experience to visit Fukushima coastal area where the nuclear disaster hit due to the 311 earthquake in 2011. it was a tour that i have never imagined how it could be. it is hard to imagine a disaster and how it could affect out lives until you go there. it is informative to learn how and what exactly happened on March 11, 2011 there. The interaction with local residents have made the picture more vivid. the trip was meanwhile inspiring while seeing more and more people moving back including young, foreign, and new residents devoting their career and lives there to rebuild Fukushima.

A rare look into the Real Japan!
I had a great time on this tour and I learned a lot. It was very interesting to get a behind-the-scenes look at the horrible tragedy that happened back in 2011. I will say that during some of the segments on the tour I got a little bit bored, but other than that the locals and tour guide were very hospitable.

Fun and Educational tour all packed in one!
Highly recommend this tour if you want to have fun and learn about the stories of the coastal area of Fukushima! I’m glad I booked a tour for this one, as I got to learn about the history of Futaba, Tomioka and Okuma towns in depth by listening to the stories of the town people. I don’t think I would’ve learned so much if I had gone on my own. At the same time this tour had fun activities like going strawberry picking, eating at the cafeteria where TEPCO employees go to. We stayed at J Village hotel for the night. I highly recommend checking out the souvenir store as it has many Fukushima and Tohoku region items. The hotel has many soccer themed souvenirs and items all around as it is next to a stadium, and even a soccer shrine! I highly recommend this tour if you want to know about the stories of Fukushima and efforts to revitalize the towns directly from the towns people.

Fukushima -- pivotal time to see a unique place
I highly recommend visiting the museums and local sites in the coastal area of Fukushima and engaging with the local residents. Fukushima is currently at a pivotal moment and offers an unprecedent opportunity to see the long-lasting impact of natural and man-made disasters on the environment, energy usage, culture, and history.

An eye opening tour full of hope
I really liked this tour! I think it is unique and I would do it again in a heartbeat. I don’t think many people abroad know or can understand what the country and especially Fukushima prefecture has gone through since 2011 till recent years. It is amazing to listen to the people and hear their personal stories. It feels full of hope seeing how the current community came together from all over the country and abroad and dedicated their entire time to reviving the towns which have been affected the most. I also think it’s very special to meet someone who was in charge of the site of Fukushima Daiichi power plant during those hard moments. Listening to his story was very emotional. It is also important to understand the technical part of what happened and what’s happening now during the decontamination process and that is easily explained at the museums. I would definitely visit these towns again!

A time-travel experience in coastal Fukushima
The tour will let you time-travel to the tragic past, the hopeful present and the promising future in just 2 days. I definitely recommend Japan Wonder Travel as the staff are attentive, patient and well-organized throughout the tour. To appreciate more on the contents of the tour, I would also suggest you to watch a movie called “Fukushima 50” but you will still get an ample opportunity to learn of the disaster and its aftermath without prior knowledge on it. The museums and real-world accounts from the town people will tell stories with lots of emotion.

I was a Japanese participant, and I thought it's difficult to truly understand the emotion of the local survivors from the earthquake who faced the tsunami and the nuclear disasters. But after listening to the real stories directly from them, my awareness against the disaster has been surely changed, though it is difficult to explain. At the same time, I was very curious about why people from overseas choose this area as one of their itinerary in Japan even for their first time visit, and I learnt that they really have a high awareness on environmental issues, putting importance on sustainability on worldwide basis, while they love Japanese culture, technologies, and etc.・・・.
Very energetic and flexible guide took us to the local supermarket and food court , it was fun to know the locals' life, but much more appreciated if we could stay 15 minutes longer at "Michi no Eki Namie" for lunch time so that we could drop much more money for that area. The facility plays a important role as the symbol of reconstruction where we can experience and enjoy shopping; tasting local sake and foods, buying souvenirs.

I recently had the opportunity to take the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant 2-Day Tour, and I was highly impressed. The tour was extremely informative and well-organized, and our guide, Fumi, was excellent.

Fumi was incredibly knowledgeable about the Fukushima disaster and its aftermath. She was also very sensitive to the topic and respectful of the local community. She answered all of our questions thoroughly and patiently, and she provided us with a unique perspective on the disaster and its impact on the region.

One of the things that I appreciated most about the tour was that it was very honest about the situation in Fukushima. Fumi did not sugarcoat the facts, but she also made it clear that Fukushima is now a safe place to visit. She explained the extensive decontamination efforts that have been undertaken, and she provided us with data on radiation levels in the area.

We visited a number of different sites on the tour, including the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant itself, a decontamination center, and a local farm. We also had the opportunity to meet with people who were affected by the disaster, including a cow farmer and a former resident of the exclusion zone.

I was particularly impressed by the resilience of the people of Fukushima. Despite the challenges they have faced, they are determined to rebuild their community and move forward. I was also inspired by the efforts of the government and the private sector to help Fukushima recover.

Overall, I highly recommend the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant 2-Day Tour. It is a unique and educational experience that will give you a deeper understanding of the disaster and its aftermath.

It was a memorable and worthwhile experience.
We were blessed by excellent weather.
Our guide (Fumie san) was outstanding for her knowledge, humour and passion.
The visit of the Daiichi nuclear power plant site was the highlight of the tour, with an up and close view of the reactors that underwent the meltdowns - all under very rigorous monitoring, control and informative guidance from TEPCO personnel.
It was also inspiring to see the communities being revitalised with fresh influx of young families coming to settle in the area.

This tour was incredibly well organized and provided us diverse experiences in the disaster area. One of the highlights and what you could not expect in any other tour was visiting inside the Fukushima Daiichi Power Plant site under special safety and privacy control. We learned a lot about what happened, what has been done, and what should be done in the following 40 years or longer while being overwhelmed by the sight.
What I appreciate most about this tour is that we visited so many different places, such as deserted residential areas, fishing ports, schools, newly opened train stations, shopping center and community facilities, etc. Our guide took us farms in the evacuation area and related us to the locals who kindly shared their horrendous experiences, their honest views and hopes. We even met a young lady who moved from outside to Fukushima and started her family there. All these gave us the chance to see the reality that has been happening in almost 10 years in multi-angled ways with no bias.
I highly recommend this tour to all visitors to Japan and local Japanese as well. Join the overnight tour if possible.:)

I have been to Fukushima 3 times for last 4years. This was the best experience. We could get so close to Dai-ichi reactor, under special restrictions of TEPCO and radiation checking. Finally I could understand more wat is going on inside of the Nuclear power plant and all my questions ware answered by TEPCO staff “ and believe, I had many many of them :)”
Visiting villages and abandoned places were just heart breaking experience… Our well English speaking guides Mana and Fumi-san are just the right persons to take visitors around. Driver was very flexible and adjusted stops to our preferences… Huge “THANK YOU” to all mambers who participate on this very special trip !!!

I was so inspired by what I learned from this tour. We visited local people and listened to their stories, and we could see what Fukushima is now. Also, we learned the system of the power plants, how did the disaster happen, and what preparation does the Japanese government do for the future. And I’m really grateful to our guide Yoko who was very considerate and well organized, she showed her knowledge and her great translation skill helped us easier to understand, どうもありがとうございます!!
I highly recommend this Fukushima tour, you won’t be regret to join it.

Our group of 5 did this tour July 3 and 4 with our fantastic guide Noriko. We loved the balanced approach which showed all sides of the disaster and the subsequent impacts and revitalization. From TEPCO’s perspective to the Cow Godzilla, it was very enlightening and a way to experience the more authentic and less touristy side of Japan. We were so inspired by the resilience of the people we met. Noriko was an exceptional guide. Very knowledgeable and patient with our many questions - she’s such a sweet person and made the tour so enjoyable. I really do feel that the two day tour gives the best perspective of the event. I can’t recommend this tour enough. Japan Wonder Travel were great to deal with and the experience is one of the highlights of our trip!

This trip was an opportunity to remind me of what I had forgotten over time. In the affected areas, there are still some areas where time has stopped, but there are also areas where redevelopment is steadily progressing after being cleared up without a trace, which made me think about what reconstruction means. I was pleased to see that the cleanup process has progressed to the point where the general public can step into the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, but the fact that there is no foreseeable future for the disposal of fuel debris, contaminated soil, and contaminated water left me feeling uneasy. I spent a very fulfilling time as a learning trip where I could see with my own eyes the facts that are not reported in the media.

This was my first time to visit Fukushima after the earthquake and I regret not visiting there earlier. This tour made me notice that the ordinary life for everybody living in the are was suddenly gone and it is still going on. We can also find that situation has been changing as new facilities such as supermarkets, apartments, highway have been built for the prospective residence. I definitely come back in the cherry blossom season which should be more beautiful than anywhere in the world.

Wonderful tour experiencing what has actually occurred, what are currently going on in Fukushima since the incidents. I went far beyond my expectation and could not be better.
The well-experienced tour guide gave us much insight on top of what we saw and hear there.
The 3-hour tour of damaged nuclear power plant which is not currently open for public would particularly be a highlight of this tour. Directly guided by staff of the power company with a Geiger counter hung from the neck of each one.
Tours go around the area show us the unmanageable power of Tsunami and seriousness of the radioactive contamination.
