About
Lenggong Valley is considered as one of Malaysia’s most valuable archaeological site. In fact, the oldest known human activity can be traced back to this site. Some archaeological experts have dubbed Lenggong Valley as an open-air museum – there is evidence of cave drawings, skeletons and precious finds (weapons, stone tools, pottery, etc) within the area.
Situated in the lush Lenggong Valley, the property includes four archaeological sites in two clusters which span close to 2 million years, one of the longest records of early man in a single locality, and the oldest outside the African continent. It features open-air and cave sites with Palaeolithic tool workshops, evidence of early technology. The number of sites found in the relatively contained area suggests the presence of a fairly large, semi-sedentary population with cultural remains from the Palaeolithic, Neolithic and Metal ages.
Lenggong Valley was added to UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites on 30th June 2012.

- kiwi3350 contributionsOrang Utan Island a must seeThank you to our tour guide John for a great day out. John picked us up from our hotel in Ipoh at 8am and we headed straight for Orang Utan Island. It was about an hour drive and the vehicle was very comfortable. Visiting the island in the morning was a good choice as the orangutans were all visible and responsive in the cooler temperature. We had a great time at the island and the orangutans were just neat and so well looked after. After the island John took us to a range of places around Taiping and Ipoh before returning to the hotel around 4pm. Thank you John, we really enjoyed our day.Written 27 October 2024
- Fiorenza L0 contributionsBest Ipoh tour aroundWe had a wonderful time with our tour guide Dev. After a rough start (we slept in and didn’t hear our alarm — Dev was so nice to wait on us for 2 hrs!!!), we visited a pomelo farm, cave temples, Kellie’s Castle, the old town of Ipoh (really enjoyed a stop to try the famous Ipoh’s white coffee). He explained a lot about Malaysian culture and customs. Thank you Dev we will always remember you ❤️Written 3 September 2024

- sipnswirlsusie0 contributionsThe tour of the cave temples was well worth it!We learned a lot from our guide John about the history of Malaysia and the Ipoh area. He was super well-informed and easy to spend the day with. We particularly enjoyed visiting the cave temples which are so unique, both the caves themselves and also the temples and artifacts inside and surrounding the caves. We especially appreciated that John drove all the way back to our hotel after his dinner when my husband realized he had left his cell phone in John's car.Written 3 July 2024

- Lohsnah0 contributionsExcellent day tour!I looked around for a day Ipoh tour and didn't find a comprehensive one and do opted for the private full day tour, even though it was expensive for a single person. y tour guide was John. He was so knowledgeable! He was a walking talking encyclopedia! He also customised the tour in that I opted to see the Mosque along the way and he stopped for awhile. Overall, I am super happy with the tour. Jut wish it had been a little lighter on the pocket.Written 17 March 2024
- marilyns5030 contributionsA fabulous dayFabulous tour. It wasn't rushed but we saw many more things than listed on itinery. Great information..great food..very comfortable vehicle. Such a good day.Written 16 February 2024
- Romax580 contributionsGreat tour of Ipoh and surroundingsWe visited Ipoh for 3 days travelling up from KL on the train. Having done a bit of initial exploring on our own we were pleased to sign up for the Ipoh Secrets day tour. Our guide was John who met us at our hotel to get underway at 8am. We had opted to go to Gua Tempurung cave so went off there first with breakfast on the way in a small local cafe. The tour included visits to museums, temples, historic sites and a city walking tour. John acted as the driver and was an excellent guide at each stop. He helped particularly with the history of tin mining in the Ipoh area and many historical details of Ipoh's development and provided useful insights into the lives of the 19th & early 20th century inhabitants of Ipoh. If you want to see Ipoh in more detail I would recommend the Ipoh Secrets tour and would like to thank John for making it such a great trip.Written 23 January 2024
- lpalantone0 contributionsInformative & fun tourReally enjoyed our tour with Ipoh Secrets! John was great about answering our questions and tailoring our tour.Written 15 January 2024
- Culture235473825740 contributionsA Day in Ipoh with John from Ipoh SecretsA friend and I have just spent 4 days in Ipoh, one day was with John an a tour of Ipoh and its surrounds. We had come up to Ipoh by bus from Singapore the day before (10 hours!) so were quite tired the next day, However John tailored the tour to suits our needs beginning with a later breakfast than planned at a very good local restaurant. He is a fund of information about Ipoh which is close to his heart! As well he assisted me with the bookings for our hotel and bus which was very helpful so far away in NZ. Ipoh Secrets is obviously well known in Ipoh and has a very good reputation; the mere mention of Ipoh Secrets opened doors! Arlene House is worth a visit for the beautifully restored rooms and their content as was the shopping Made in Ipoh. Papan's forgotten shophouses were interesting, a ghost town now. There is so much to discover in Ipoh....there is so much more than we expected. Do contact Ipoh Secrets for a personlised tour with John! Kind regards LynWritten 5 December 2023
- Leong480 contributionsFun Secrets Day!Informative tour and very enjoyable. We love the tin mining history John shared with us, including how the old opera house and nearby ‘entertainment’ outlets in the old town were patronized by the coolies. Instead of Kellie Castle, we explored the cave at Gua Tempurung and John was our expert tour guide, pointing out the various highlights, and recommending the appropriate tour for us. He even took us to the last remaining bakery that bakes charcoal fire Heong Beh (unfortunately, you need to Pre order before they bake these special biscuits), as well as another bakery where we purchased yummy kaya puffs, salted egg buns and specialty moon cakes. He also gave us recommendations of food courts for our dinner that day. I think we achieved a lot in our 1-day tour. Just tell John what you want to see and do, and he would try to manage the itinerary. Highly recommended!Written 8 September 2023

It is not easy to find a guided tour of the Lenggong Valley. The tour organised by Ipoh Secrets Tours with guides John (for the day) and Faiz (for the caves) was just what we needed. From Ipoh we travelled comfortably by car to the Lenggong Valley where we visited several caves where archaeological excavations have been carried out (including Gua Teluk Kelawar, Gua Ngaum and Gua Asar). As announced, we walked from one cave to the next; good shoes were essential, as the path was in the forest and the ground can be slippery in the caves. On the way back, we visited the Lenggong Archaeological Museum before enjoying a delicious laksa telur sarang in a typical restaurant. The tour also included a very interesting stopover in the royal city of Kuala Kangsar, where we visited the royal mosque and the magnificent "temporary" palace (Muzium Diraja Kuala Kangsar). Our guides were both very knowledgeable and we thank them once again for this wonderful day of discovery.

9 March 2023 6.20am in the morning, John picked us at Kinta Riverside Hotel. We bit the morning traffic and arrived Lenggong Valley at around 7.30am for a coffee shop breakfast. We were then proceed to our UNESCO Archaeological Heritage tour.
The heritage tour guide could not speak much other languages except Malay. John assisted in translation and provided additional insight and helped our senior folks to complete the adventure. We were told tha our 73 year old participant was the oldest that the tour had ever received!
John took us to Kuala Kangsar for lunch and visited the royal town of Perak before heading back to hotel.
We thanked John for his friendliness, patience and professionalism.

We're glad you enjoy the tour and are lucky that the soil is a lot drier compared to a few days before where the group had some lich bites.
You all came out unbitten! :)
