- 1Our tour guide will pick up you at 9 am and start your cultural tour to Mari-Mari Village. Upon arrival, you will be greeted as preparation for you time-travelling into prehistoric Borneo; briefing on the Village Rules is a must before you enter. You will be greeted by the Chief and go through a custom Welcome Ceremony. Then you may walk through the suspension bridge to enter Mari-Mari. This is combination of five ethnics such as Dusun, Rungus, Murut, Bajau and Lundayeh. Every ethnic has their own exotic stories and traditional dance as well as their historical. Lunch will be served inside Mari-Mari itself. After lunch, it is time to bid farewell to the villagers and depart into the 21st century, as we transfer you to your respective back to hotel.
About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- AMsays0 contributionsA wonderful historic UNESCO World Heritage SiteWe enlisted a local tour operator to show us this wonderful, historical UNESCO World Heritage Site. In no particular order we saw Queen Victoria Memorial Clock Tower, Fort Cornwallis, Chew Jetty, Armenian Street, Kapitan Keeling Mosque, Little India, Sri Mahamariamman Temple, Goddess of Mercy Temple, St. George Anglican Church and Khoo Kongsi. The local street art was also visited including: "little children on a bicycle" and "flying Butterfly Cat". Great guide who also gave us tips on the street food and the brest places to shop.Written 8 February 2025
- alimN1557LG0 contributionsGeorgetown City TourWe started off from the hotel picked up by our guide Mohammed Firdauz and headed to the Thai Temple with the reclining Buddha after which we were taken to a Coffee outlet to select different types of coffee and teas. Following on we went to a chocolate outlet offering different types of chocolates. From there we were driven to the Khoo Khong Si but unfortunately it was closed due to the Chinese New Year. We then proceeded to the Peranakan Museum where we spent quite a bit of time viewing the old furniture, jewelry and artifacts of the era which was very interesting as it showed the blending of Chinese tradition and culture into Malay habitat. From there we were taken to Armenian Street to see a famous street art and circled the neighbouring streets taking in various landmarks. We finally were taken the Clan Jetties to view the houses on stilts along the waterfront before being driven back to our hotel. Mohammed was a good guide and spoke fluent English and gave us a run down on the places we visited and also advice on where else we could go on our own during our free time.Written 7 February 2025
- archiboldfamily0 contributionsGreat Guide and interesting tourGreat tour with knowledgeable guide Mohammed. Booking was easy and Mohammed confirmed arrangements the night before. We were picked up at hotel - our guide brought water and breakfast for us - a lovely and welcome touch. Tour as expected - Penang Hill busy but tour guide gave us tips to avoid the tourists - the fast track admission tickets worth every penny as queues long due to Malaysian school holidays. If you are pressed for time this half day tour is definitely a good optionWritten 6 February 2025
- jefferyg2370 contributionsAN INCREDIBLE HISTORICAL TOUR I WILL NEVER FORGET!!FAIZHAR, my Tour Guide, was INCREDIBLE!! Being a lifetime resident of Sandakan, he knew EVERYTHING - the inside scoop - on each historical stop we made during this AMAZING 1/2 day tour. Faizhar brought this Tour TO LIFE!! I'd never heard of Sandakan and knew absolutely nothing about the WWII Japanese POW camp that detained 2700+ Australian/English POW's, with only 6 surviving the POW camp death marches at the end of WWII through the jungles of Sabah. WOW!! Agnes Keith?? Had never heard of her but another WOW!!! Being given a private, insider's tour with personal perspective of the Sim-Sim Water Village, where FAIZHAR was born and raised, was eye-opening, humbling and very historic. The Buddhist Temple overlooking Sandakan, all beautifully decorated for the Chinese New Year, the Central Market tour, having lunch with Faizhar at one of his local eatery hangouts, and his willingness to answer EVERY question I had about Sandakan and every stop we made is a travel experience I will NEVER forget!! Please! Take this tour and ask for FAIZHAR. YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY!!!Written 4 February 2025

- mbritbart0 contributionsAn excellent tour in PenangThis was an outstanding tour. Our guide Ang was so knowledgeable and he told us fascinating stories about the history of Penang from many different aspects. All of the stops were fantastic and eye-opening. We will be thinking about it for a long time. Highly recommended.Written 13 January 2025
- Paradise397046801490 contributionsFantastic Sandakan Day TripFantastic day trip to Sandakan! We had a private tour guide and car who personalised and customised the tour to the things we had prioritised. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and was born and raised in the city. They brought us to an exceptional lunch spot and picked us up and dropped us off at the airport. Couldn’t fault the whole experience! I look forward to going back!Written 13 January 2025
- 537jackieu0 contributionsNo showed!Guide never showed up despite us receiving confirmation from TripAdvisor (and tickets) prior to arrival. I reached out to guide the day before to confirm details via whatsapp, email, and called - never called back and no showed. Left three couples at the end of the port - very disappointing as we have limited time i. port and had extensively researched how spend our time. Viator refunded our money, but we were not able to go on the tour.Written 27 December 2024
- stevepP1744DN0 contributionsVery knowledgeable!Mohammed was very friendly. Great English. Unfortunately we all felt like he was rushing to finish. 3 hrs of tour was completed in 2 hours.Written 7 December 2024
- 703SusanM0 contributionsThree worthwhile places to visit when in PenangGreat guide. The visit to the two temples as well as the hill make an excellent half day . Our guide advised us to pay for fast track entry to funicular. Well worth it as queues very long. Excellent half day away from the bustle of the heritage area.Written 17 November 2024
- 171ChristopherM0 contributionsCurate’s eggOK early on, but (I) we had to press the guide to visit all the listed venues (he appeared keen to get home!), and (ii) we were taken to 2 (unwanted) commercial outlet stores.Written 30 October 2024
- J6691RPpeterl0 contributionsNonexistent ExcursionI would love to write a review of this excursion, however we didn’t get to go on it. Everything appeared fine until the morning of the trip when the freelance travel operator contacted me to say the the travel agent MAM Holidays Malaysia had reduced their previously agreed price by 17%. This made it economically unviable for him, which I had great sympathy for. There was no contact made by MAM Holidays Malaysia to inform us of the situation or any attempt to arrange for another guide. We waited for 30mins to no avail. We are still waiting for the situation to be resolved i.e. full refund from Viator.Written 6 October 2024
- susanaO7661JC0 contributionsBrilliant! Our guide Siti (not sure of spelling) was brilliant, kind and particularly knowledgeable. My husband is a very picky eater, but she had plenty of suggestions come lunchtime. Our driver was very good too. I cannot fault anything about our tour, we were amazed.Written 26 September 2024
- X Z0 contributionsWonderful experience of cruise fireflies and crocodilesWonderful experience that we can explore the fireflies, and crocodiles. we cruise in the night to find the beautiful fireflies and also we have found a 1.5meters crocodiles. Also the island area that we take a rest has also a good view. Dinner is delicious and staff is patient, introducing us information about animals, plants. Our guide Azrien is kind and responsible, Nice experience !Written 18 September 2024
- B8627ARjoeb0 contributionsSandakan Sep24We did not do an organised tour, we just had a taxi driver take us around and paid our own entrance fees, he was fantastic, you can definitely do all 3 in a day, If you go to the morning session at the Orangutan Park, and miss seeing the Larger ones in the wild, you can return for the afternoon session using the same ticket and give it another try, You will almost certainly see a sun bear, but the Rainforest Discovery park can really use up time if you are interested as there is a lot of walking options. You can always go back the next day. Joe - Sydney AustWritten 16 September 2024

We were prepared to be picked up but the tour van got into an auto accident before it got to us. No one was hurt, however, that understandably delayed the tour until the next day. Mari-Mari Cultural Village is just outside Kota Kinabalu so the drive there seemed relatively short (compared to Kinabalu Park). Unlike other tours our driver was not the tour guide. The tour guide was an older gentleman knowledgeable about the five tribes of Sabah and brought us through the different tribal houses. There is a built-in native trampoline we jumped on. There were demonstrations of cooking and alcohol making with delicious samples for everyone, and also bark cloth making for clothes. This tour does not include blow pipe making or demonstration. The dancing and performance afterwards was by the same people who did the cooking and bark cloth making and met us at the village gate, and you could join a part of it. We all enjoyed lunch afterward. I recommend you see it and you will learn a lot.

Mari Mari cultural centre was excellent. Entertainment and meal suburb. Tour guide the best. Our Driver 1 out of 10. He was late then we detoured for him to get something to eat. We asked if we would be going home the same road if so could we be dropped at the beach. He said yes then drove home a different road. He then took us to the wrong accommodation and huffed when advised it was the wrong place. He was constantly getting text messages and we think he was arguing with his girlfriend. Very bad customer service.

Very slow people are divided into groups and there is not enough time between groups resulting in long queue and overcrowding , no published time for the show we had to wait for more than 45 mins to wait for the show to start , No places in between the walks to get water , No access to anyone who has a disability and also knee problems . It takes longer than it should due to lack of Organization. We were also told it included lunch and it was not part of it

I went with both my parents, and it was a very enjoyable experience! I visited 5 years ago, and there have been improvements from the reception area, to the increased number of staff and guides, and lunch provided as compared to last time 👍🏼
We got Clare as our guide, and she was very patient and kind despite certain people in the group that were a tad more mischievious throughout the tour.
The tour was smooth, the post-tour performance was entertaining, and the lunch was delicious. All in all, I'm glad that MMCV has improved over the years and gave my parents as wonderful an experience as last time I went 😁👍🏼👍🏼
Would recommend everyone to visit atleast once if they are in Sabah!

Excellent tour (and we have been to a number of similar ones in other countries). In house guide spoke fluent English. Group sizes reasonable (13 in ours). Visited 5 tribal reconstructed longhouses, all fully explained. Lots of food and drink to sample. Interactive throughout, fun, entertaining and informative. Short dance and music show. Excellent buffet food at the end. Difficult if mobility issues as some steps up and down into houses, but may be alternatives. Thoroughly recommended, including for children.

We totally loved our afternoon here. Our guide was super friendly and explained everything very well. The tour is well thought through and we were not expecting to have food and drink little tasters throughout. We didnt really know what to expect and were impressed.

Amazing value for money - we got an amazing interactive tour (thank you Polly), sampled the tribal cuisines, saw a cultural performance, and got a good feed before leaving. Would recommend to anyone going to KK.
